"With a generous patio on bustling Orange Street, Nica’s is a great place to people-watch while you tuck into a sandwich loaded with thick spirals of Italian cold cuts or chicken cutlets and broccoli rabe. Filled with a selection of imported Italian treats and fresh produce, this is also a perfect place to pick up fixings for an expert-level cheese and charcuterie plate." - Stasia Brewczynski

Nica's is a charming neighborhood deli that offers a variety of mouthwatering options, from hearty sandwiches and paninis to fresh salads and homemade soups. It's been a favorite local spot for years. I recommend their chicken cutlet sandwich, especially when paired with fresh mozzarella and roasted red peppers on focaccia. The outdoor seating area is perfect for enjoying your meal on a sunny day. One of my favorite hidden gem's in the east rock neighborhood.

RESTAURANT REVIEW Nica's Market New Haven Opened in 2002, Nica's Market is an Italian Deli located on Orange Street in New Haven CT. Nica's offers a wide variety of delicious sandwiches, salads, panini's and more. There are a wide variety of fresh made "hot foods" to satisfy local residents and workers appetites. The prices are slightly above the local average but the food is top notch.....most of the time. The one downside is the customer service, despite touting about it on their website. After visiting many times in a short period I was never met with the "outstanding customer service" they boast about. The food preparers seem all over the place and don't greet you with a friendly smile. Several order specifics were ignored on every one of my visits, including missing ingredients and added ingredients that were not ordered. Out of the 12 days I ate at Mica's, my "hot" food was stone cold, despite sitting on the hot bar. This happened at all times of the day as early as 11 AM and as late as 3PM. Bottom line. The food is delicious and the selection is great. If you have the patience to deal with a few annoying mistakes and inconsistent service definitely check this deli out just based on the amazing variety of Italian foods. Contrary to the food preparers, the girls that work the coffee counter are friendly and charming and always end the experience on a high.

Do not go here if you are a person of color. I have known this place for quite a while. Food is decent for a quick bite or lazy nights with way too many options to choose from. However, the customer service always sucks. Its a busy place so I get you don't have the time but you are food service bussiness. I have been there yesterday only to be waiting for my turn for more than 10 min. While I wait, I noticed there were flies all over the place on the pizzas that we wanted to order. I was calling a lady behind the counter to let her...saw us but wouldn't pay attention. I thought she must be busy or not see me...I am a big girl and its hard not see me. And I continued to wait only for me to see that they are choosing the customers than finding out who's next. I said excuse me like 5 times and My voice is not faint either. No one responded. What pissed me off is how much they boast about customer service. Like if I am brown, you can't see me? Never stepping into that place again.

Aye t̾e̾r̾p̾y̾fam ya guy slid thru Nica's lookin for a sammich of the Eye talian variety and lets just say this place gives ya olde worlde city mart vibes... The aisles are a lil cramped and theres a overwhelming array of specialty food items. If you can work your way around you will land at a counter to order sandwiches and pre made pastas n salads. And they bring the classics! Got a chicken cutlet badabing badaboom onna good roll and fresh arugula lemon dress3d to impress and clean cut Nice lil area to sit on a nice day and you have a sweet lunch w/o even having to try. This place is a gem! Take your time and enjoy a few minutes, life moves fast enough!

Nica's Marketplace in New Haven offers a delightful experience. We tried the portobello mushroom panini and chicken pennette, both of which were delicious. The prices are more affordable compared to other places, and there are many food options to choose from. The gelato ice creams were exceptional. I look forward to visiting again.

Google
Had the cowgirl panini which was pretty decent all in all. The peppers give it a slight kick, and the rest of it is mild. The pizza was eaten cold on the road so won’t comment on that since it probably wasn’t meant to be eaten that way. My gripe is with posted pricing for the sandwiches. Posted pricing is $11 but at checkout all of them said $12 and the girl said “oh prices increased last year but we just don’t bother keeping it updated.” What’s the point of posting prices then? Lines are long but service is overall quick, we stepped out for a bit and came back in 20 min and they were ready. No bathrooms, crowded parking lot, and areas out front to sit.

Google
You can find many European products but it's generally much more expensive. Also,be careful when they weigh your groceries cause to me they put a higher price per libre than the one I actually chose. The prepared food seems decent. The panini was very delicious.

Yelp
"Dominique, nique, nique S'en allait tout simplement Routier pauvre et chantant" (The Singing Nun) Italian delis and grocery stores are one of our guilty pleasures, and Nica's sure was a great one. We bought two sandwiches, 2 slices of pizza, and a big slice of banana chocolate chip bread for under $30. The sandwiches were both on a hard roll - an Eggplant Parm ($8) and an Italian Combo ($9). Both were stellar in quality and quantity. The Eggplant was piled high with tender very thin breaded eggplant slices and sauce. It was a big sandwich and very generously portioned. The combo included big layers of capicolla, salame, provolone, and a thin layer of a single lettuce leaf and tomato slices. Half of each sandwich was plenty for our dinner, so we'll get four servings out of the $17 we paid. Pretty outstanding value! The pizza slices ($3 each) were a real gem. I wasn't expecting them to be that outstanding, but they were exceptional in four ways -the cheese layer was quite thick and delicious, same for the sauce, the crust was on the thin side and not soft and doughy, but most of all was the way the sauce and cheese were spread to the very edges of the crust, so there was no wide perimeter ring of boring crust. The chocolate chip banana bread was a huge slab of deliciousness. Plenty of banana flavor, moist thick cake, and a liberal sprinkling of big chocolate chips. Our $3.99 piece was easily split between the two of us and believe me, half of that slab was not a skimpy portion by any means. Bottom line- the food was great, the pricing is fair, and the store is a lot more than a deli (bakery, fruits, vegetables, cheeses, grocery staples, imported goods). We were impressed with our visit, especially with those wonderful pizza slices. PRO TIP When you order a sandwich, make sure you tell them up front EVERYTHING you want on the sandwich -what kind of bread, what kind of cheese, what kind of topping(s), what kind of condiments. Our guy never asked, and as soon as I said, "Italian on a hard roll", he whisked off and made it the way he wanted to. When we said I didn't want any oil and vinegar, he gave us the side eye before he tossed the roll in the trash and replaced it. Definitely an improvement opportunity for the Nica's crew.

Yelp
Nica's Market is small neighborhood, convenient, market known for their deli. They have a great selection of prepared foods, panini's, wraps, hot and cold sandwiches, pizzas by the slice, homemade soups, salads, stuffed breads and more. My wife ordered a slice mashed potato and bacon pizza, and a side cucumber and tomato salad.I ordered a lemon chicken hot sub. The sub was large and packed with chicken. The only problem was it wasn't hot, not even warm. There is a nice area to sit outside to eat. Problem here was the entire time we were swatting away bees. Two tables next to us, picked up their food and left. Food was good, but not the most enjoyable lunch.

Marie R.

Yelp
Great neighborhood spot to grab a quick sandwich or for the locals to do their grocery shopping. The establishment is clean, well organized, and fully staffed. The menu in the back of the store has a great assortment of both hot and cold sandwiches, catering, and salads. Everything looked super fresh and homemade. We tried the chicken cutlet, with fresh mozzarella, and roasted red peppers, on exquisite focaccia bread. It was delicious and a good value. The staff was friendly and welcoming. There is plenty of outdoor seating and parking on the street.

Jack Straw S.

Yelp
This place is very consistent. I like their chicken salad sandwich with lettuce onion and American cheese with black pepper. They have excellent prepared food.

Trixie G.

Yelp
The food here is very good. However, they need to organize a little better with what they cook daily. When you don't live in the area you drive in only to be disappointed that they don't have anything you like. Can they just post the food options on Facebood or their website daily? This would be very helpful to those that don't live in the area. You try calling and the phone is busy at lunchtime. You call at 11:00 - 11:30 a.m. and they have no clue what they are serving for the day. Please get a better system going so those that don't live in the area know exactly what is on the menu (hot food items) for the day. Want to give you my business!!! Thank you so much. So I head to Nica's and it was an awful experience. I asked for middle piece of lasagna and the manager Rosario she was rude. The end pieces of the pan were hard and dry. She stated put some sauce on it. What I spent 14 bucks for a large dish last time. Why would I do that again. She gave me a small middle piece. Guess what this will be my LAST time coming to this deli. They certainly don't value the customer nor good customer service. Deli's are a dime a dozen between New Haven and Cheshire. Never again.

Marlene L.

Yelp
We ate here every day of our visit to New Haven, CT. The Caprese focaccia sandwich was a huge hit for us southerners. We miss this deli so much! There was a lot to choose from and they are even open for breakfast in the mornings serving bacon, egg, & cheese croissant sandwiches. Worth every penny we spent there.

Yelp
Another #IYKYK ICONIC New Haven go to! Nica's never fails and as many times as I think they've out done themselves they do it AGAIN! Why Nica's will continue to be a forever New Haven gem; Fresh, Friendly, Family Friendly, great service and they cater. Literally with lunch right to your office, family gathering, and more AND literally by ensuring their customers are well taken care of. Thank you Nica's for keeping the busy bodies of New Haven CT stomachs full!

Yelp
Second time having paninis from this place. I don't get the hype but I wasn't the one ordering them this time. Not impressed. They delivered an hour before event started today so all the sandwiches were cold by the time the event started. Guy just said that he had a lot of deliveries and can't control the time he brings orders to each client..... at least I think that's what he said. Couldn't really understand him. All hot sandwiches. Cheese wasn't even melted and bread thick and not crispy like a panini should be. Maybe they are better individually and not in a mass order. Wouldn't order catering from them personally again.

Kelley E.

Yelp
We love Nicas. The sandwiches, pizza, hot prepared foods are excellent. Fresh veggies and fruit available also- but for lunch this place is our go-to. Lines can be long at lunchtime but ordering ahead is a good option. Portions are giant and we usually have leftovers. Prices are moderate. Food servers are jovial and polite. Not a place to eat in- it's a store- like a small grocery- but there are places to eat outside if it's wether conducive!

Penny J.

Yelp
Line was long but both the deli and the checkout line went super fast. The chicken pesto panini is great. I recommend the Turkey club with pesto. Fire. And the cowgirl panini is also goated. Great snacks. Just a little expensive for store items but the sandwiches are a great price for the size!

David W.

Yelp
Terrific market on Orange Street. Sandwiches, salads, hot dishes, and pizzas are fantastic. Also great coffee and lots of gourmet items. Additionally, everything is reasonably priced.

Lucy N.

Yelp
My friends and I stopped here to pick up sandwiches on our way to the beach today and Nica's did not disappoint! They have a super cute outdoor seating area, which we will have to try another time. But inside, they have a large selection of plenty of gourmet foods, and a deli in the back. We headed straight for the deli and the service was fast and friendly. My sandwich was only $7 which is so cheap compared to what you might get at chains like Subway or Jersey Mike's. Not to mention, it was delicious. I will definitely be coming back here when the next opportunity arises!

Yelp
I ordered a breakfast sandwich that looked like they threw the the sandwich together the cheese wasn't melted and it was extremely cold with literally one slice of bacon, I called to speak with the manager who was disgustingly rude and said " well the egg is cooked what do you want me to do" with an attitude slammed The phone and hung up on me, I always order food from them and was surprised by the quality of customer service I received. never going Back the manager that was there today ruined my experience whomever was working today on 1/26/24 should be ashamed And the facts that it wasn't busy says a lot

Lera F.

Yelp
A lot of my friends like it, but I just thought it was average and overpriced? Also, they don't have the prices on most of the food here so you have no idea how much anything it...not a fan of this trend (you'll see it in some other New Haven stores, too).

Ray V.

Yelp
Truly a family business. All the personal touches and well thought out menu that represents commitment to satisfaction. Everything from Olive oil,to T Bones, from produce , figs and miniature cannolis. As for the prepared food, be prepared to loosen your belt. There is such an assortment of high quality delicious compliments to a main course you'll never get bored of the selection. I've been to the Broadway grocery store in NYC, But in New Haven on Orange Street, this places a jule.

Sunny M.

Yelp
Love Nica's - best sandwiches in New Haven! A great little neighborhood market with a cute patio.

Khayla S.

Yelp
Incredibly rude management and miscommunication across staff. This business is falsely assuring product replacements and misrepresenting their products. Recently, I ordered a sandwich, with one of the key ingredients being meat. Unfortunately the individual preparing the sandwich forgot to add the prosciutto, which is a staple of the sandwich. I realized once I was home and called the establishment to politely inform them of this and was assured by an employee that I could come back and receive a new sandwich the next morning. Once I arrived the next morning, I mentioned my name to the employee I'd spoken with who connected me to the owner. The owner rudely denied any refund or new sandwich saying a "sandwich without meat is perfectly fine for me to eat" and that I should have "returned the [15-hour old] sandwich for him to throw a slice of meat on". He also mentioned "forgetting onions on a sandwich doesn't ruin the sandwich" - as if forgetting onions equates to forgetting the meat on a 3-ingredient sandwich. Yes, this feels as absurd to write as it felt to hear. Lastly, he blamed me, stating that I "should have confirmed with the owner and not just believed the employee." It was incredibly unprofessional and I was shocked at his treatment. His employees represent his company and if they assure me I will receive a refund or new sandwich, the responsibility should not be on the consumer to confirm the validity of the employee's statements with the owner. Their necessity to adjust internal policies has little to do with me and the burden shouldn't be placed on the consumer.

Nancy N.

Yelp
Piece of plastic in sandwich. Called an was told "it happens." This was my first time at this place and not sure I will go back. Disappointing.

Anna K.

Yelp
If you are buying produce or stuff that doesn't have a price on it, make sure the cashiers charge you for the right amount! They will always overcharge and if you ask them about the price of something they rang up they will be rude about it. Be careful.

Mark M.

Yelp
Recently, I went to Nica's. There were very few customers in the store. I went to the back to place my order. Three workers were working on to go order. I waited for 10 minutes for one of them to come and take my order. Around 12 minutes, this guy walks up and the person with the reddish hair looks back at him and says: "You want your usual today?" "Yes, please." Then goes to the kitchen and places his order. When she comes back, I say "Hello" Her response was "I'm sorry but we're busy." "I've been waiting 10 minutes." "we're busy" Finally, one of her co-workers comes and takes my order. I get my sandwich ,pay for it and when I get home, after taking a bite, I realize they gave me the wrong sandwich.

Marta M.

Yelp
Don't get a tuna sandwich! Got sick and called to let them know and appeared they could care less. Other sandwiches were fine. Long wait in line. Regular customers get preference and better service.

Salman K.

Yelp
Excellent lunch spot and local grocery store in the East Rock area of New Haven! Nica's has a private parking lot and plenty of street parking which makes the experience (for New Haven) all the better. Unfortunately, they only offer outdoor seating, so be prepared to take out during the winter months. The lunch rush here is also real, so plan for that if you decide to eat here. I typically call in my order beforehand. Nica's is also a small grocer with fruits/veggies, refrigerated items, and some baked goods! Nica's offers precooked/buffet-style hot lunch items (like pastas) by the container, pizzas, and paninis/sandwiches. The paninis are among the more popular items. They are quite large, so portion is excellent. I've tried the Cowgirl (with no bacon), the Classico, and the Pesto Chicken. The Cowgirl definitely takes the cake in terms of taste and flavors. It is delicious! The Classico was pretty good while the Pesto was not something I'd order again. Overall, I prefer the chicken cutlet to their grilled chicken, because the grilled chicken was much drier in my experience. I've also had their tuna salad grinder which was solid, but nothing to write home about. Try the Cowgirl panini and check out Nica's! Side note: According to Yale's Muslim Life page, Nica's chicken is halal (Murray's chicken), which makes Nica's one of the few restaurants in all of CT serving authentic Italian cuisine with halal options!

Frannie M.

Yelp
Lots of great food, but I love the panini sandwiches for a quick and easy lunch. The service is good and they offer outdoor seating.

Jen G.

Yelp
Eat here a lot bc i work in the area...everything is cooked fresh...service good...a little pricey but e excellent quality..i can always find something to eat here...their orzo salad is to die for

Nell M.

Yelp
If you wanna shop and grab something in the area I truly recommend Nica's market. They also have cakes and their pizza looks nice

Randy A.

Yelp
Just started working in the area and have passed this market many time on my way to work. Decided to stop in for lunch as was pleasantly surprised to see all the ready made fresh dishes in the deli and the list of panini and other sandwiches. The Italian grinder I ordered was fantastic! I'll definitely be back.

Suzanna B.

Yelp
Fantastic steak and cheese sub-eggplant parm hero is super when they make it correctly and don't rush and their Sicilian slices are sinfully outrageous! Really great food but a shame that the workers don't have temperaments to match it! Portions are great and attitudes are tremendous here but the rating is based on the food and let's face it, it's a deli, not a restaurant so I won't shave off a star for rating-I just won't put money in the tip cup-I'm all about smiling behind the making =}

Leslie D.

Yelp
Each time I buy their produce, I look at prices and make decisions on what to buy. As a small convenient market I expect prices to be higher than supermarkets. So, when I get my receipt and come out of the store to review receipt is we I have been charged 30-40% for an item. The example I could post today is it something that was posted for 1.99, I was charged 2.99. This has happened consistently over 3 years. I'm finally writing something to affect change. Nika managers assume no one asks for a receipt or cares to look at what they are charged. Instead of honoring posted prices, the cashier told me today to that the prices posted there are not right but no one has changed them. Why have the prices up?

Shane M.

Yelp
Best Steak n Cheese in New Haven !!!! Also you can grab hot lunch items and cold sandwiches etc Large trays of Italian food for house parties and don't forget a fresh brewed espresso on your way out. Real Italian neighborhood market and authentic.

Eilonwy W.

Yelp
It's Nica's fault that I don't cook as much as I promise myself I'm going to cook, as RIGHT THERE within an easy walk, they provide an enticing selection of pastries and an excellent hot-deli counter. (The slightly pinkish chicken in sauce is the sweet one, the more yellow one is the spicy one, and both are delicious.) Nica's has pizza (everywhere in New Haven is required by statute to have pizza). Nica's has coffee. Nica's has Italian cookies (expensivo, so get the little custard pies by the front counter instead, those are amazing). Nica's has olive oil in a keg, decent and sometimes wild produce, a ton of fancy packaged goodies, and enough grocery basics that you won't starve if you get the foolish notion that you should cook something from scratch. Prices range from "bargain" (breakfast sandwiches) to "ah, heck, totally worth it" (many of the specialized goodies) to "whyyyyyyy didn't I stock up on cat food at Walmart" (if you don't have a car and you do have a cat, arrange for delivery of cat staples from a place that does them cheap). Use your judgment... or, idek, become mesmerized by the cookie selection and throw judgment out the window in favor of deliciousness. On balance, I think P&M Orange Street Market makes a somewhat better sandwich, but Nica's has a far better selection of groceries. It can get VERY crowded at peak hours -- like, you will be wedged in the aisle with complete strangers fondling your appendix -- so bring your patience if that's when you need to shop. The cashiers so far have been patient and kind in dealing with me when I'm tired and hungry, which is to say every visit.

Meron Ayele G.

Yelp
This market is amazing I go here weekly for my groceries and sometimes for lunch. They have incredible sandwhich and a really good variety of deserts!!

Liz W.

Yelp
The place is lovely and everything looks good. The bakery goods have always been excellent. Last weekend I spent $50 on food and most of it was very disappointing. The lemon chicken was excellent! But the seafood salad literally had no taste and, interestingly, the pieces were chopped so small, I couldn't identify most of it. The frozen butternut squash raviolis were just awful... tasteless, mushy, and the inside contents were unrecognizable. Not worth spending my money there.

Jennifer A.

Yelp
Love this market! I really enjoyed The Fancy Bird & fruit salad for lunch. The gelato looks amazing but I have yet to try it -- definitely will soon though! Great selections with friendly staff.

Sean S.

Yelp
BEWARE OF GETTING OVERCHARGED. I want to like Nica's. It's local, has a pleasant neighborhood feel, and they have a lot of good stuff. The produce is usually high quality (at least similar to most grocery stores) and the prices are surprisingly competitive for most things, even if selection is understandingly limited. There is evidently a lot of turnover in their staff, and this results in very few people having any idea what they're doing. But the real problem: Every single time I come here, I am mischarged for something. I literally need to watch the screen (which, since it doesn't exactly face customers, is quite awkward and feels rude to do) to make sure that the cashiers are scanning produce correctly. I'm seriously not sure that they've ever gotten the prices correct on the first try; produce is nearly always put in as the wrong item. (I don't think this is intentional or malicious, but it's always something more expensive, never something less...) Today, I had TWO items. One of the two was mislabeled as a much more expensive item per weight and my order wound up costing twice as much as it should have. I had already been wary since this has happened to me the last few times that I've been here, and happening when I'm buying so little has really put me off returning. If you do come here, always look at the screen and ALWAYS check your receipt; you'll almost certainly be overcharged for something otherwise.

Robert C.

Yelp
This is a spot that seems like it was plucked out of Europe and plopped right down in New Haven. Although it is located in a rather random neighborhood and is unassuming in its appearance, it is filled with tons of goodness. There's plenty of outdoor seating and there are many a good thing to stuff your face with. My personal favorite is the cowgirl (chicken cutlet, cheddar cheese, bacon, peppers and good ol' LTM) which is like a BLT plus kind of sandwich. I like it so much I've almost made it a weekly habit of getting a cowgirl for lunch. My clogged arteries thank me. Just make sure you get here early or you'll be waiting in a pretty hefty line (and there may not be any outdoor seating left!).

WhatsontheMenu C.

Yelp
Sandwiches & deli are good but Nica's charges different people different prices - they charge up people of color on their weighted items. Be careful with the weighted items - racial profiling in pricing here.

Jaime T.

Yelp
Love this place! Their arugula salad is amazing and the pickled pig is my favorite! Makes me look forward to working in New Haven during the week!

Giant ..... G.

Yelp
Kitchen people were big attitude no even cared about customer I love Nica's but not kitchen ppl ( some of them !! )

John B.

Yelp
Half the restaurants(markets) that deliver to YNHH are lazy and they park on the sidewalk. This makes it difficult for the disabled who use wheelchairs. When you mention it to them they have an attitude and say they are there for only a short time. They do not want to walk. Some of them should consider walking, it burns calories. Not Tony he parks legally and when I complimented him on parking legally he brushed it off. He said it was only common courtesy. The guy is humble and polite.

Ilana S.

Yelp
This family-run establishment is wonderful! Everyone is friendly and super helpful. Prices are very reasonable as well. Will be our new go-to place.

Zeb L.

Yelp
Why don't I have a place like this in Columbus? I'm dead serious, I demand to know why demographics allow a place this useful and affordable to exist in New Haven, but not in Columbus. It's so many nice, useful things all at once. Little grocery store? Check. Maybe not what I'd use for big grocery trips but definitely nice when I just need one thing and don't want to run all the way to some bigger place. Niche Italian goods I can't get just anywhere? Check. Food made on site? Check. I had a very tasty Chicken Parm sandwich to the grand tune of seven dollars, and I was also able to get Tiramisu for dessert.

Lorrice G.

Yelp
When I want to treat myself to a phenomenal panini I always think, " how close am I to Nica's?" I will stop everything a hook a uturn and find myself in the busy deli line. The array of food selection is impressive and I've never had anything I didn't love.

James L.

Yelp
I used to live a block away from Nicas and it definitely made life in new haven more enjoyable. Although it only looks like a market when you step in, there's a section in the back with various prepared foods and made to order options as well. Pretty much everything in this place is overpriced with the exception of their paninis, which are $6 or $7. But you're in luck because their paninis are delicious and massive! My go to was the thanksgiving panini. It's literally what it sounds like: thanksgiving dinner in panini form. Who wouldn't love that! Nicas is the best on warm summer days. They have outdoor seating (some tables have umbrellas for shade), so grab a bite to eat and enjoy the few months when it's not snowing! One disclaimer: my review only pertains to the eatery of the market; the rest of the market probably deserves two stars. Price tags are frequently mislabeled and everything is extremely overpriced. I once bought a pint of orange juice that was marked as $3, but got charged $7. Sadly this wasn't really a rare occurrence.

Yelp
I ordered the cowgirl panini.... grease was just sopping out of it. Bread was soaked with grease five minutes after receiving it and the BREAD literally tore apart the moment I picked it up. Normally my experience here is okay but this was awful. This is after they told me they ran out of chicken cutlet too, and they still charged full price for a chicken cutlet sandwich when they gave me a grilled chicken sandwich instead. What a waste of money.

Yelp
We love when we find ourselves in New Haven for lunch and can stop at Nica's. The aisles are cramped and there are Yale hipsters galore, but the food is awesome as is the variety. You can order any number of deli sandwiches, wraps and paninis in the back, but best of all is there amazing and ever changing selection of home made ready to eat foods. Their food case in the back is a sight for hungry eyes. They also have incredible baked goods, cakes, sweets, tarts, pastries, and delicious Italian cookies. The food is Italian and it is legit! Additionally, Nica's is a market. So you can buy your produce and a variety of other goods here. They also have an impressive meat counter. It is a bit pricey in comparison to box store groceries l, but they carry a lot of organic items and locally sourced foods. You must understand why the hipsters are in love, right? Beyond all of this, they have Italian gelato and it is a delectable treat! Pop in for some of you're in the area and have a sweet tooth. They don't have any indoor seating but if the weather is nice the tables outside are lovely. You can people watch the folks on Orange coming and going and sit in the shade of umbrellas and a few trees on the patio.

Yelp
Nica's is a lovely deli to pickup a sandwich, panini, or salad. They also have a nice little selection of pre-made, hot food items. You can pickup pretty much any grocery item you need, while you're there. Staff is always very friendly, the food is fresh and the place is clean. The outside seating is great, but beware that during nice days you may be eating your food on the curb or to go. This is not due to lack of seating; rather, you can thank the lovely, self-absorbed people who think buying a bottle of water entitles them to use the space as their private patio for an hour and a half.

Yelp
Don't try to order a stuffed cherry pepper no one working there has any idea what they are. Also if you order a cold cut wrap they toast it automatically with lettuce tomato and mayo on it . The food is good just not the people who serve it.

Yelp
I absolutely love Nica's--I'm here so often, the employees noticed when I was away for the summer. I would classify Nica's as more gourmet with Italian vibes, offering aromatic bakery items, unique flavored coffee, fine cheeses, & fresh produce. Towards the back of this small market, you'll find a deli with hot & cold foods and sandwich selections. Although I'm usually here to grab fancy brie or hazelnut coffee, the first time I had one of their sandwiches was when my school catered from them. The Vegan was incredible. The Flag reminded me of a panini I had at All'Antico Vinaio's in Florence (aka best panini of my life). The Funky Turkey, however, was way too funky. Nonetheless, for $8 and blissful patio seating in warmer weather, you can't go wrong (other grocery items are, unfortunately, more expensive).

Yelp
I came here to pick up lunch and immediately thought, "Man, I wish something like this was near my office." Not only can you get warm food items, but there are lots of tasty, gourmet snacks to satiate any hunger. The store includes delectable candies and fresh produce, as well. My friend and I got the vegetariano panini and salad ($10 together), which was definitely enough to split. (Sounds like the salad used to be $3 and is now $4.) Protip: Order any sandwich ahead of time over the phone. There isn't that much space to wait around for your food if you are ordering on the spot.
