"Sitting in Niche Wine Bar’s narrow greenhouse, called the Crow’s Nest, oddly feels like a trip to Europe. It’s unusual to still be in the Vancouver yet sipping a glass of pinot noir and nibbling on charcuterie on a weekday afternoon, listening to the hum of traffic and watching the quizzical looks of the mail carrier and pedestrians as they longingly pass by. The Crow’s Nest fits one party of two to three people from the same household. It’s aired out for 15 minutes between parties. Call or text Niche for reservations." - Rachel Pinsky

"Leah Jackson, owner of Niche Wine Bar, has helped Vancouverites find their favorite bottle of wine for more than a decade. In the past 11 years, she’s tasted over 7,000 wines for her lounge-y downtown space; there, she offers more than 300 wines by the bottle and dozens of pours by the glass that regularly rotate. For summer, rosés like a 2020 Muga Rioja and a cabernet franc rosé from Domaine Audebert & Fils in the Loire Valley fill the wine list. Wine-friendly charcuterie plates, sandwiches, and Alsatian tarte flambeés are available for indoor or outdoor dining." - Rachel Pinsky

Leah and crew are awesome! They catered a party at our house and blew our guests mind. The food and preparation was immaculate, and everyone was stunned at how beautiful the platters were. They were communicative and more than delivered on every promise. I highly recommend them!

Google
This place is amazing! So warm and cozy! The owners are very knowledgeable and helpful with their bottle suggestions. My spouse and I have been twice and they have been spot on with their recommendations. Definitely a new favorite spot.

Nolan Rumble

Google
Very intimate spot which offers a good variety of international wines. Staff are really friendly and helpful when trying to figure out what wine is good. They have a delicious selection of cured meats and the truffle butter with bread is delicious! If you’re not feeling up for wine, you can grab a wine cocktail! They’re moving so keep an eye out for their new shire!

In all fairness, the owner is a relative of mine. Still this was our first visit to her wine bar and our first impression was of a very comfortable relaxed atmosphere with quality food and service. Given that she's owned the business going on thirteen years, I would say that Niche definitely deserves a visit if you have never been. It would be a great place to take out of town guests. Because of our unique circumstances, there are many details I find it difficult to speak towards. Therefore I would recommend you reviewing their website and/or calling with your specific questions or concerns.

Google
Don’t pass up this gem in downtown Vancouver! Great wine knowledge, wine selection and food pairings in an eclectic atmosphere. We have been regulars for years. That won’t be changing any time soon!

Google
Came by with a friend, it was my first visit. The wine was excellent and the food was also a reason to return. Very unique decor and varied seating arrangements. I’d love to be a regular customer but despite the friendly service, we had an odd experience. Got there close to 4, and my friend who had arrived first was already seated. I joined her. Halfway through our wine and food , we were asked to give up our seating to accommodate a party of 3. We agreed and were moved to a two top nearby. Then we were informed that the table was reserved for another party at 6. Not wanting to be difficult, we said that would be fine. We did order the gelato and wrapped up our time there. I may return to give it another shot, I sure hope that the musical chairs situation isn’t repeated. Such an odd way to treat customers.

Google
Pure bliss from start to finish. Had wonderful wine, and fell in love with the decor, the brilliant staff, and the whole vibe. The club room is extra fabulous. So much love for this place.

Always amazing wine and food!

Yelp
Great ambiance, great service and awesome wine! Highly recommend. This place also smelled great so I gotta try some food next time. Highly recommend for a fun girls night or date night spot.

Riah C.

Yelp
A fun little find! It's small inside with very eclectic decor and little rooms with couches and tables. Everyone we talked to was helpful and kind, and their wine was delicious. Not a place for a big group, it's very intimate and a bit quiet.

Yelp
Still a fabulous place with wonderful wines & nibbles to nosh, and a great staff. Just a quick update because we finally got back to check out their new location since they moved last year to a bigger place. From the outside you might not expect such an enchanting wine bar to be located in this very corporate-looking building, but don't let that fool you. Come inside, have a seat in one of their cozy nooks, and sip some excellent wine. They have a few patio tables outside as well. Everything from my original review still applies.

Matthew L.

Yelp
Finally got to Niche in their new space. It has a little more room, but not much. Wine selection for consumption on site and to go was pretty good. Thought the food was bit overpriced for quantity, but they made for a decent snack. Our waitress was very pleasant. Shame the afternoon had to end with us being 'told' by another gentleman employee, rather than 'asked', to vacate our table for a party that was coming in 15 minutes. We were wrapping up, finishing a conversation. No problem with an ask if we could move to another seat or finish given the circumstances, but the way we were told was tremendously off putting. With so many good places to go, that is the type of experience that will likely take this one off the list for us.

Naomi B.

Yelp
A small, hole-in-the-wall place that serves a small, but very tasty menu in a comfortable, casual-ish-but-classy place. Really good place to take someone when you want a date-like night out, but want to avoid the date-night cliches.

Jeanie S.

Yelp
Met with our book club in our own cozy room with comfy chairs, lots of books and "fireplaces". Our server was very accommodating for our varying orders of food and drinks, offering great suggestions and pairings. We were able to discuss our books in a quiet setting and have tasty snacks, lots of varieties of cheese, and wine. I highly recommend their new location and ambiance.

Good F.

Yelp
Excellent service and decor, with an owner who clearly has a passion for wine and paired foods. Very well priced. Be sure to try the little flat pizza like meals...brilliant crusts.

Gayle S.

Yelp
Fantastically unique cool & hip cozy wine bar. I've never been to a wine bar that was so quaint featuring private sitting areas

Mark J.

Yelp
I called the day before a big wine pairing party I was having at my home and they set me up with the best of cheeses , Charcuterie board, special treats . They saved me and my guests loved every single thing they made ! Great service - great owner , chef and all there - very friendly and helpful ! Can't wait to go back!

Jessica W.

Yelp
Impressive wine selection! Friendly staff offer informative help on wine selection. Food offers are limited, but tasty and cover a wide range so everyone can find something tasty. Try the tarts. Hard to describe, harder to resist. New location has a friendly, inviting vibe that promotes intimacy without being too informal.

Rachel C.

Yelp
This is a great little find in down town Vancouver! We went for my Mom's bachelorette party and the food, wine and atmosphere were fantastic. Really enjoyed it here and would make another trip when there is a craving for wine and nibbles! The flights are a great way to sample a few things. The tarte flambeé was fantastic and everyone at the table seemed to want to share ;)

McKinley S.

Yelp
My husband and I went here a few weeks back for a night cap and had a lovely time. The owner was kind and the wine was great. So fun to see cool spots like this thrive post COVID

Cameron B.

Yelp
A fun little neighborhood hood spot with a great and consistently changing wine selection. Leah is ever friendly and always ready with suggestions or fun facts about wine. The decor has a kitschy bohemian vibe that is perfect for the northwest, especially given that it shares a space with a small local art gallery. So, if you enjoy a nice glass of wine or some small plate nibbles in a chill and welcoming atmosphere, then stop on by. Also, check their website for new events. My wi personal favorite is the bubbles night every month featuring all things sparkling.

Dean D.

Yelp
Love this place...outstanding wine selections and their meat and cheese plates are just awesome. Love the bread they serve with their meat and cheese plates...excellent service and knowledgeable staff. One of my favorite downtown locations! Great place to go before or after a show at the Kiggins Theatre which is right next door.

Lindsay T.

Yelp
Cozy & relaxing atmosphere ! Owner suggested an Italian Pinot Grigio . Charcuterie was delicious as was the bread. I will return to try their special pizza.

Dan O.

Yelp
Poor and rude Service from bartender, Anthony, the other night. I do not recommend this place.

Kelsey R.

Yelp
My favorite wine bar ever!! Best in Vancouver for sure. Leah the owner is fantastic. Great little place right by Kiggins theater, you have to go! Each time I have been here, I get the rose. It never disappoints. They don't have a full kitchen so they make small bites and a to DIE for flatbread, tart. Its cheesy, salty (prosciutto) goodness. I always sit at the bar but they have comfy seating all around. Kind of a hidden gem in Downtown Vancouver.

Oscar A.

Yelp
This place has a great atmosphere. The prices are a bit high, it is downtown Vancouver after all. The service is fine. The big BUT in this place is the owner, or partner, or whomever she is. Short Sandy hair, never cracks a smile, makes you feel like you are taking up space, even though you just brought in 10 people to the place and we are all having drinks. We all felt she was rude, so after one drink, we went elsewhere and spent our money there! So, yes I will be back but if that woman is working or gives us the sour look, we will go elsewhere. Service industry, hospitality, customer service... study those terms!

David B.

Yelp
What a great atmosphere this place has. Absolutely charming. Popped in with a good pal and wine expert the other day just to see it for myself, and get her read on the place. The owner was warm and welcoming and perfectly willing to discuss the wines I asked about and the stained glass, and the oil painting (oh my!) and the bicycle from Holland. Wine from Macedonia? You bet! This is absolutely a "go to" place from here on. No need to attempt the misery of traffic on I-5. No sirree, Niche works. Had the charcuterie board, and if I have any minus' about Niche Wine Bar it's the same one I have at every wine bar. Six tiny pieces of bread with the board? Ask me if I want more bread. Awww, go ahead. Spoil me a little. All in all, the best wine bar I've been in many years.

Alexander H.

Yelp
I love wine! I love art! I love cheese! Throw amazing hospitality and a home like feel to it and you're hooked! I love staying and talking with the owner, Leah and her employees. They really take the time to get to know you and help you on your wine journey! I have learned very much about wine because of them! Fantastic!

Karen J.

Yelp
One of our favorite places to hang on date night or with friends. Great savory tarts and delish wine. The owner Leah knows what I like before I do. Her knowledge is vast and service is great.

Heather D.

Yelp
This is a very small cozy wine bar with a neat black raven/bird decorative theme. The have a great selection of wines by the half glass and glass. They have a fairly limited selection of beer. They offer small bites and tarts to snack on. There is ample seating at the bar, but limited away from the bar. We sat at the bar and received a brusque welcome and a strained smile. Not feeling particularly welcome, we soldiered on and ordered the rioja, an amber ale, some bread and oil. The service was fast, but distracted and not exactly pleasant. Sitting at the bar, we had a direct view of the dish washing area, scrubbers and tupperware. All of their prep and cooking happens behind the bar, but is a fairly unattractive set-up. Being that most of the customers face that area, it might benefit from a bit of an overhaul. The wine was delicious, but the unwelcoming staff and bar seating view kind of dampened my enthusiasm for this wine bar.

Liz C.

Yelp
Hello Yelpland, This is your Duchess (of Niche)....I would like to invite you to my favorite little haunt in Vancouver. Awesome snacks, great prosecco and fun ladies to help you select a new favorite wine. So come on down but save me a seat because once word gets out this place will be hard to get into. The original tart is a MUST! Gruyere cheese bubbling on top of smoked prosciutto YUM. You will love it!!! Good cheeses and salumi also. See you there!

Risë C.

Yelp
Niche is downtown Vancouver is a gem. The space is welcoming and comfortable, the food is excellent and the wine selection is extensive. Easily my favorite place to spend the evening!

Ty S.

Yelp
This is our Cheers bar. Walk in and everyone knows our names. Leah maintains a diverse glass pour list and mixes it up frequently. Food menu is simple and good. Rotating selection of cheeses from around the world. Come in and saddle up to the bar or relax into a chair with a friend. And yes there are other beverage options.

Andrew And Donna G.

Yelp
Cannot believe nearly five years have gone by since our last review! Following a great evening of comedy at next door's Kiggins Theatre, our party of four visited Niche for a nightcap and nosh. Evan fixed us up with a cheese board that not only featured six wildly different and delicious varieties, but edible flora, hazelnuts, dried and fresh fruit, wine-based preserves, and a generous portion of fresh, warm bread. We also enjoyed some wonderful locally made pate. Four separate reds were pours, I enjoyed Lambrusco, which was a blast from the past! If anything, Niche was better than I remembered from the previous visit. Regards, Andy & Donna Gregg, Vancouver, WA

Yelp
This is a great little wine bar in downtown Vancouver. I met some friends for a meet up and ordered a tasting. I let the server choose and she gave me the French wines. They were all to my liking. The atmosphere is trendy with some art on the wall and the pizza was pretty good too. I would definitely go back.

Teri E.

Yelp
We went to the Kiggins/Niche get together event last weekend. It was a ticketed ($18.00) event where you go into the Kiggins for wine food and short movies. The event idea is good, the wine is ok/good. The issue was that too many tickets were sold. About 2/3 of the way through the line, the food was gone. The wine inside was $10.00 for a small glass,(EXTRA). The shorts were about poverty in Africa. What a downer. Anyway the event idea is good. The price was way too high for what one got, which was no food if you were 2/3 down the line. $10 for a small glass of wine is way too high as well. The wine was good but not THAT good. Overall, the event a disappointment for the price. Next time, have the event pricing should be free and the wine could be a charge. Don't sell too many tickets so half of the people don't get food and they don't get a refund either.

Yelp
I frequent many downtown Vancouver and PDX places and I love the fact downtown Vancouver has a wine bar! While I have to say the wine was great when we first walked in the owner greeted us with angst. The entire time I was in this place I felt NOT WELCOME! Seriously why would you want to sit in a wine bar and have the person serving you (which I was told was the owner by the people I was with that knew) be irritated you were there! She seemed frustrated from the time we walked in. Maybe we were loud or laughing too much but dang! Loosen up!!!! Who would want to come back in your place feeling this from you. We found ourselves apologizing for nothing to appease her. Ack! Note to the owner (we visited 3/30/17 around 8:30 pm) Be happy! Sheesh!

Lindsey L.

Yelp
My wife and I like this place a lot. Simple menu this small restaurant fits the bill for a relaxing evening with your SO and friends eating charcuterie and cheeses and enjoying reasonably priced wines.

Luba B.

Yelp
Leah is the owner and she is great. Knowledgeable and welcoming. House hunting from LA, we enjoyed the ambience and the wines and the chat. Good reds and even a Sauternes for dessert. This is a nice touch of European wine bistro in Vancouver. We will be back and look forward for more. Worth every minute and every dollar. Make sure you Uber back.

Jeffrey P.

Yelp
Finally popped into NICHE, and what a wise decision on my part. A fantastic, quiet spot -- packed to the gills with vivid, sweeping art. The proprietor was a joy to chat with. Quite fortunate NICHE is tucked away in my neighborhood; definitely plan to return.

Shéa M.

Yelp
Such a cute little place. Very cozy. The owner was very helpful with finding wine that myself and my friend would enjoy. Delicious little plates of nibbles (salted dates...YUM!). If I lived closer, I would frequent this place. My only negative was that the wine (per glass) was a tad on the pricey side. More in line with what I'd expect in downtown Portland.

lynn k.

Yelp
How to describe what a hip, elegant, satisfying experience? Just don't know. Cool old building with high ceilings, aged wood. Hip art and seating. Excellent selection of internationally sourced wines. Astoundingly good food. It's as if impeccable artistic taste expressed itself in flavor. Visit. If you live near here, you'll become a regular. If you are from far away, this will be a travelogue experience.

Nicole P.

Yelp
This was our second stop on our unofficial downtown couve wine crawl. We had been primed with a flight right before then walked here. Unlike the previous location, this spot was smaller and darker but had a pretty sweet vibe. The flights offered here were more specific (sparkling, red, white, etc.) which meant a series of wines in that category. They also offered a crow's nest flight (or crow something, can't remember the name) where they picked three of their best wines for you. My friend and I chose this while my husband chose the sparkling (out of character). The cool thing here is while our server was selecting our wines she actually asked if we had any particular likes and dislikes about wine so she could select accordingly. It made our flights slightly different from the other which was pretty rad. Also, each flight was $15 and came with 3. I thought to myself, "damn, that's quite a price increase for less wine than the last place." But when she poured the glasses, I was no longer displeased. I would say all 3 glasses had enough wine in there that it was about 75-80% of abnormal glass of wine. As my friend eloquently put it, "if they gave me that much when I ordered at a restaurant, I'd be pissed. But as a taster, that's huge." 100% accurate. The wines themselves were pretty good. I think I liked two and was meh on the other. We also ordered some cheese, bread and fruit which was great because we had started to get hungry. Was a little bit of a buzzkill but it was delicious. One of the creamy cheeses was magic and I unfortunately forgot the name. Great, attentive service. Would definitely put it on your list if you're trying to coordinate a wine crawl.

Sarah T.

Yelp
I have read the other reviews and wonder why my experience has been so different. I have been to Niche 3 times now and each time, I have enjoyed the wine but the service is questionable. This past visit, I had family in town and really wanted them to enjoy a wine bar that is a bit like some we have visited together in New York. We got there late - about 20 minutes before closing. We were greeted with a firm, "we are closing and you cannot order anything from the kitchen. We can pour a 1/2 glass of wine." I enthusiastically said we were there to share Niche with some out of town family and would love to just have a glass and be on our way. The person looked at us and I asked if we could just quickly see the menu. She pushed them over to us and walked away. Really, I wouldn't think twice about this because we did get there close to closing time, but this is the 3rd time I have been greeted there in this way. I will continue to give this place a chance because it is local, and hey, it's a wine bar and I love my wine! It is my hope that the service becomes warmer, and that my choice to support Niche is considered worth accommodating with a smile and a "welcoming" attitude.

Rob K.

Yelp
Good wines at fantastic prices in downtown Vancouver! Most bottles, yes bottles, are only $16 with a small $5 corkage fee if you decide to stay and enjoy. Otherwise you can take with and enjoy elsewhere. The atmosphere is not typical Vancouver which is a nice surprise. Vancouver has been in serious need for a place exactly like this. I recommend a bottle of Malbec and the Classic Tarte (it's more like a pizza) with a side of olives. They also serve a variety of great cheeses from around the world among a handful of other salads and tapas. Definitely worth the stop if you're looking for a hip-ish place to relax in Vancouver and enjoy some vino and fantastic food.

Nick G.

Yelp
Truly one of the best wine bars I have been to. Stopped by on a whim and ended up spending hours there. The flights were tasty with very generous pours. The owner and her son were extremely friendly and knowledgeable not only about wine, but about the area as well, helping us find more fun things to do in Portland/Vancouver. For my last glass of the night, I asked the owner to give me her favorite and it was so delicious, I ended up going home with a bottle. We also had the cheese and fruit plate, featuring quite a few cheeses I had never had before. All were delicious. The pinot strawberry jam was so amazing, I asked if she would sell me a jar and she did! All in all, a stop in at Niche made for a fun, relaxing, cozy night!

Carmen L.

Yelp
Great place for a date night! Been a few times and enjoyed each time. I wish the meals were a little more generous in size but other then that a very cute cozy place to enjoy a nice glass of wine.

Patrick W.

Yelp
Probably the most underrated place in Vancouver if you like good wine and cheese. My wife and I have come here for date nights over the years and have always had a wonderful time.

jason m.

Yelp
Great wines. I'm a rank amateur, but they've got it in spades. I had a wonderful red with complex flavors from Argentina, and a few others. Proscuitto is great. So is the sopressatta. They have great cheeses. ALL the beers they serve are real. No children's beers in this place. The lightest thing was an IPA. All in all, a great place to get started on an evening out. Atmosphere is cool. More like a wine store, (which it is) than a bar. it is NOT a cheap place to eat and drink however. 1 person, 3 glasses of wine, and one beer, and one appetizer plate with an extra side of hazelnuts. $53. I would/will go back.

Mark A.

Yelp
Just had an awesome culinary exploration! It was Chiefs night and Chief Dave totally rocked it yet again. If you ever come to DT Vancouver Wa you have to come here. The asparagus & shrimp au gratine' was crazy good! Everything was crazy good. Don't get me started on how good their wines are.... Wow!

Carisa W.

Yelp
Found this place out of the blue. The service was prompt and friendly! Had one of their French tartes which was rich and savory with a hint of crunch. The wine section was sizable but if you just want a glass the list is reduced considerably. The atmosphere was comfy with great lighting and many cozy corners to reside. Fun!!

Tom R.

Yelp
Fine wine bar and retail wines ... lots of choice! Great food. Go and be taken care of. Our third visit to Niche as great as ever. We asked owner-artist, Leah Jackson to prepare a non-dairy cheese plate (you know some are lactose intolerant). She totally understood and accommodated our request making an exceptional plate: two goats and a fine sheep cheese with enough fresh baguette to make it thru the cheeses. We shared a bottle of a superb Spanish Albariño from the wine list. (5 stars here too) We went early, at about 5PM, just prior to a film festival up at WSU. It's quiet this early and makes a great place for early date, or afterwork conversation.

Erik R.

Yelp
If Vancouver took the time to count its blessings, Niche would be at the top of the list. Great wine selection, a small, but interesting beer selection, wonderful ambiance, tasty food, live music, art...what else do you want? If you are intimidated by wine, don't be. Just let the experts here set you up with a well-matched pairing of wine and cheese or meats and you won't be disappointed. I'm going to miss it when I leave!

Dave L.

Yelp
Super cheese board with machego paired with a really good red, great flavors. Worthwhile for an evening when a full dinner is not needed, service is great, very personal.

Judson F.

Yelp
Want something different than just northwest wines? Trust Leah for a taste of europe. Great appetizers also. Can't wait for my next trip to Vancouver.

Kendra C.

Yelp
This quaint little place has the true vibe of the Pacific NW. It has nice decor and a cozy atmosphere. It's adjacent to an art gallery so you can have your wine and browse the art. It's location in downtown Vancouver is very near other art galleries and cool shops. We had the classic tart, which is like a pizza with extremely thin crust. They make it right in front of you and put it in the over sized toaster oven which I thought was ultra cool. The tart was very good. It was full of flavor which I didn't expect. I had the blush my husband had a Riesling. They were both awesome. I would have had more, glad I didn't because I thought we were getting the $4 glasses but our ticket showed $8 glasses. Hmmmm. I'll check out their special events when they have them.

Melinda B.

Yelp
An amazing little niche of sanity and calm along with innovative, drinkable wines. I don't go very often because it's pricey. But every glass of wine, a lot of it imported from various European enclaves, is brilliant. Leah and Reid are my go-to people. Sante'. Salud. More.

Andrea L.

Yelp
I'm not the biggest fan of wine bars as I'm not the biggest fan of wine any more. But one cannot deny the cuteness and oh so cool character and feel of this gem in downtown Vancouver. My friend was showing in the Angst gallery adjacent. Since the only edibles there were fortune cookies - we hopped next door for a drink. The wine was lovely - I chose a dry white for $8. It's all the same to me honestly. We didnt eat but saw beautiful plates being served with lovely meat and cheese and bread. Definitely a date place! I look forward to the next time when I will order some food for sure!
