I normally don't leave reviews, but as a food handler myself, I wanted to let the team know that last Thursday, I ordered a chicken bowl for delivery, and it came with completely raw chicken. Hoping this post helps with safety/quality checks.

This is new place is absolutely treasure for me! We had a bowl with lamb and beef, fries and a wrap, closely like falafel, but they tasted even better, not quite sure how does it work, but as not familiar with Greek food and 1st time trying, it’s worth my money and time, the fries like In N outs’ with a bit seasoning on it. Highly recommend for a wrap smaller portion and a bowl for full meal, both won’t turn me down.

I was here for the grand opening back in January (yes I'm late)- and it didn't disappoint. This is a franchise and this location is downtown Berkeley near campus so it's convenient for anyone working/living in the area. Here's the deets: PARKING: Street if you can find it but also close to all sorts of transportation (bus, BART, etc.) FOOD: I ordered the falafel bowl which came with basmati rice, cucumbers, lettuce, onions, tomato and tzatziki. I also ordered the Greek fries which came with garlic. Fries were crispy like I enjoy and nicely seasoned. All the ingredients in the bowl were fresh and tasty. SEATING: There's indoor seating (not a lot) but if you can snag a table- do so. Overall, fresh food and it's tasty. Check it out!

I’m not a student nor do I live in the area, and I drive a car. I’ll probably never come back purely because parking is nearly impossible here. Otherwise I love the food.

Google
Love this place! My husband and I go at least once a week for lunch. Staff is so sweet and they sometimes give my dog extra meat they have. The chicken gyro bowl is so good. The chicken is actually tender and moist unlike a lot of other places.

Google
Wrap was alright the end got really soggy cuz it was drenched in sauce also it only came with 4 fries Lol 😂 only had sparkling water but the cashier was really nice Wish they had regular water non carbonated but their bowl was soooo good and v filling and everyone is nice here

Google
First time getting Greek food in Berkeley. The staff are very friendly! And one of the boys brought me my food after it was done instead of me having to stand up which was very nice! They always welcome you in too. For food it was pretty good! I got the lamb plate. Portion was definitely big enough for dinner so you do get what you pay for.

Google
Had the dubai chocolate greek froyo. It tasted much better thawed.

Yelp
They really have the Best Mediterranean/gyro bowls in the east bay with great portion size

Yelp
Great chain, love the Redwood City NTG, but this location is not good. They are very stingy with the meat. Lady is not friendly. Got severe food poisoning. Beware, not a good choice for dinner.

Yelp
First I'd like to start by saying I was genuinely excited to get this food at first. I wanted good mediterranean food, and that's not what I got here. The flavor for everything was really off. Tasted more like a mex-tex seasoning instead. I got their advertised steak bowl, while my friend got a chicken one, and we shared a fries. The portion size for the fries was good, but everything else wasn't. The steak bowl itself had barely any pieces of steak in it, I felt compelled to ask for a refund because it felt borderline offensive. I paid 15+ for a STEAK bowl with only a couple pieces of steak ?? they're already a bar behind even Chipotle on this matter. Truthfully, the only thing my friend and I got close to finishing were the loaded fries, the only semi-close thing to being redeemable. The worker that attended us in front, this slightly older hispanic woman (and I mention this because the cook in the back asked her what's wrong in Spanish, after she looked annoyed over issuing the refund, but I could tell she didn't want to say anything in case I also spoke Spanish). Odd. The ambiance was quiet and semi clean. No customers were in there when we came but a few came after. It was a weird shop. Wouldn't come back here again. A redeeming quality was their spicy sauce and another one they had that I forgot the name of.

Yelp
One of the monthly benefits AMEX Platinum card holders receive is a $15 Uber Eats credit. I was scrolling through the deals section in the Uber Eats app and found that Nick The Greek had a BOGO offer on their Gyro Bowl. Two bowls for only a few dollars after the $15 credit is applied is an absolute steal. After I placed my order, I was told my order would take between 30 - 40 minutes to fulfill. However, by the time I arrived at the restaurant 15 minutes later, the food was ready on the counter. The gyro bowl itself is fantastic. The slices of lamb/beef are tender, nicely seasoned, and you receive a very generous portion. I like the option to have the sauces on the side. The yogurt-based white sauce goes well with everything in the bowl, from the fresh lettuce greens to the yellow rice. Make sure you dig deep to the bottom of the bowl to get the rice, otherwise, you might mistaken your order for a salad bowl. Overall, Nick the Greek exceeded my expectations for something available on Uber Eats. Definitely would recommend taking advantage of this deal while its around.

Yelp
Nick the Greek is a solid chain. I really enjoy the gyro meat. The chicken souvlaki is fine, although not my favorite order. I do wish the fries were crispier. The place is somewhat big for a fast casual spot in downtown Berkeley and it's quick. The bowls don't come with pita, FYI! I do appreciate they let you customize the bowls - if you don't want rice, you can sub salad or fries. The produce with the salad wasn't the freshest, but it's winter, I get it... finding ripe tomatoes anywhere can be hard. Overall, a solid spot for somewhat cheapish eats.

Yelp
Stopped in for a bite to eat. Not an impressive place when you walk in- but the food and service were great! Ordered the gyro bowl and hummus with pita. Wow! A lot of food! Hummus was creamy with a little zest. The gyro bowl was huge! Ingredients were very fresh.

Yelp
The food here was so disappointing super old, dry, and flavorless. As a middle eastern this literally felt like disrespect to my culture bruh how do you mess up pita bread. $17 for a Mediterranean bowl to have 4 pieces of steak. You could tell the chickpeas were double fired because they were old literally no flavor and cold. The gyro salad just tasted so sad the chicken was dry and chewy all I could taste was the balsamic vinegar. I hate wasting food and will deal with food tasting mid but damn this was bad enough it was more worth it to throw away.

Yelp

Yelp
Even though I was hungry looking for a quick bite to eat nearby, I was delighted to find and discover this spot near the UC Berkeley campus. Good ingredients and I highly recommend the greek fries. I got the chicken souvlaki pita bread ($12.50) and added the combo for $4.50 of greek fries (topped with grated cheese, fresh garlic, scallions, dill) and fountain drink. Definitely hit the spot and the pita bread had a nice fluffy bounce and chew to it.

Yelp
Grand Opening on Tuesday, January 23! I love Nick the Greek in Walnut Creek, but now I don't have to go as far to get my fix. They have a bunch of different options depending how hungry you are from gyros and bowls to plates and sides. I ordered their souvlaki plate (skewered pork) over fries with a side salad, pita bread, sauce, and veggies. I love my food seasoned and they definitely do it right. Everything was flavorful and a hearty portion for the price. They have a moderate amount of seating (around 6 tables for 4 and 4 smaller tables for 2) but you'd probably be better off ordering to-go and finding somewhere nearby to eat. They only have one cashier so be patient with them as they figure things out. Staff was super friendly and they even gave out samples of froyo. I will be back :D

Yelp
I was skeptical at first because I know this place is a chain, but wow!!! I hope the quality (and quantity) here continues to stay consistent given that they have just opened. I placed an order online. They were running a bit behind and my order wasn't ready, but I didn't mind the wait. (I was entranced with watching them make the froyo w/ baklava...gonna need to get that next time...) I ordered the beef/lamb gyro pita. The meat portion size seemed just alright at first, but there was way more than meets the eye. I ended up barely being able to finish the pita. It was PACKED with meat. In fact, it was probably 90% meat and 10% vegetables, so it got really salty at the end. I think I'll pay extra to add lettuce and cucumber next time. It needs more fresh vegetables to cut the amount of meat. Overall, a great experience! Hope they keep it up. I'll be returning to try the bowls and dessert.

Yelp
Experience is based on take out orders exclusively. I've ordered here a couple of times. The service was always quick and friendly. Orders were ready before quoted times. Food was hot and orders were accurate. Food itself was decent quantity for value. Everything was tasty except the tsaziki sauce is a little more sour than I prefer. The location is large but there's not a lot of parking. Very difficult to stop in for pickup. Overall a decent experience and willing to come back

Yelp
Nick the Greek delivers on what you would expect from this group of Greek Restaurants - good food, tasty salads and fast service! Updated to 5-Stars - quick on the thumbs
google avatar

Yelp
Their frozen Greek yogurt (Froyo) is delicious. Just enough tang to make you come back. You can also order the baklava with it.

Anna T.

Yelp
The food was fine but I needed a receipt for the order I placed online a few days ago (reimbursement purposes) so I called, the person on the phone didn't understand what I was asking for (which is whatever) and they said they would go get their manager, but they hung up immediately, and then ignored the rest of my multiple calls to the restaurant. Thankfully I was able to find the receipt in my google chrome history.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Came here after visiting the museum. The place was clean. The service was amazing. Definitely will tell my family and friends. Great location

Tom C.

Yelp
I used to be able to get my favourite dinner here, I'd get the chicken gyro and fries with extra sides of their mustard sauce. Now all I can order is the chicken souvlaki pita which I don't enjoy because I just taste charred chicken, and you can no longer order extra mustard sauce. I hope these things come back, but I'll hold off on ordering from here again until they do.

Saivishwa G.

Yelp
the food is good and espeically sauce is unique. I would recommend everyone to this resturant

Yelp
I got the beef n lamb gyro it was really tasty! Right amount of meat, sauce, flavor etc. I got it to go and the clerk was friendly. Eager to try more of their food.

James Y.

Yelp
Nick the Greek is my favorite qsr, but this location consistently sucks. New ownership seems to be worse than the last. Got a chicken salad and there is no way the chicken was slow rotisserie roasted. Must have been shaved earlier and put into a steam table pan.

Yelp
This place is a must go if you like great Greek food, with quick service, and a nice atmosphere. I had the Gyro bowl and loved it! Last time I had the Gyro wrap and that was also great!

Nahom H.

Yelp
Words cannot describe how underwhelming this food was, on everything i would have had a better experience at a hospital cafeteria. Its so dry, there humus is ass, and there steak, dont get me started on the steak bowl. Holy shit, so underwhelming, you keep taking bites and assuming its gonna better except guess what? it doesn't. Stay away from resturant

Yelp
Probably the worst Greek bowl/food I ever had. Food was pretty bland, lamb wasn't really seasoned, and they just dice huge vegetables (cucumbers and tomatoes) into the the bowl as the salad. The glob of sour cream was more seasoned than the lamb itself, as they only poured the seasoning powder over the plate after it was done. But that's besides the fact. The only reason why I'm writing this review is because I found what seems to be some sort of sharp glass/ plastic within my food while eating it. Within the photo below was one of the shards I found. I believe I had eaten one earlier, as when I was chewing I heard a loud crunch. I wasn't sure what it was and could feel the grains in my mouth after swallowing a little so I decided to spit it out. I didn't see anything within the food I had just eaten (now I know I didn't because it was clear), and I had assumed it was maybe it was a really dry lettuce or something so I brushed it off. In no way did I think there was glass or anything of that sort within my food. When I continued to eat, it was then when I felt the shard pictured below. Still unsure whether or not it was glass or plastic, but it was sharp enough to engrave my wood table.

Sarah K.

Yelp
Very friendly staff, everything was very clean and a nice atmosphere overall. Food was soo tasty!! Their falafel is a must try.

Yelp
Came to the grand opening in the evening, right as they opened for dinner around 5. Restaurant was nicely decorated, fun Greek pop music playing. Lots of employees waiting to help! Ordered a lamb and beef pita with a side of Greek fries (fries with feta cheese, garlic, and green onion) and an order of loukoumades (greek honey-puff donut-like pastries). Was charged more at the register for the loukoumades than the menu stated, but after I brought it up the manager recognized that it was a mistake and comped the dessert entirely, very kind. The gyro had a good soft pita and tasty meat, but skimped on the red onions a bit. I'm also used to cucumber in my greek gyros, but they don't do that I guess. The fries were... well, kind of like In-N-Out fries, in the not great way? Tasted like potato but were a bit limp and underdone with no real seasoning. The Greek fries also really needed some tzatziki sauce or something to dress them up because they were otherwise very dry. The loukoumades had 7 or 8 of the puffs, so good value for the money. While the taste was right on they were more dense than I'm used to, not as puffy and crispy as I typically see loukoumades. The place has good promise, and I'll probably come back once they've settled down, but I might not get the fries again.

Yelp
Happy another Nick the Greek has opened in the Bay Area. This will be a great addition to Berkeley. The food is so good and plenty of it. Service is great with helpful employees. Will definitely be coming back over and over.

Yelp
Been at Nick the Greek twice, ordering the Gyro Bowl the first time and trying the Beef/Lamb Gyro Pita the second time. Both were delicious! The Gyro Bowl comes in a surprisingly big bowl and is a really good portion size (though it does require a bit of work, as I prefer to stir and mix everything up). The Beef Gyro Pita is a decent size, the mix of beef and fries go really well together and are very filling. Aside from the food, the cashiers are friendly and nice, rang up my order quickly and accurately. The restaurant is clean and surprisingly spacious (when I walked by this place a few times, I didn't think it would be as big as it was). So there are plenty of tables and seats for dining in and eating with friends and family. Just a good Greek spot in Downtown Berkeley.

Lara P.

Yelp
I have ordered both the lamb-beef gyro and bowl from here, and I love both. The bowl is a little inconsistent sometimes (freshness of the cucumber and the size of the shavings of meat) but this is a good tasty, healthier option
google avatar

Karina K.

Yelp
The service is friendly and efficient, with staff members who are happy to offer recommendations and answer questions. The restaurant is clean and inviting. The prices are reasonable, making it a great option for a quick lunch or a casual dinner with friends. Overall, Nick the Greek is a hidden gem for fans of Mediterranean cuisine
google avatar

Eamon K.

Yelp
The chicken pita and burger were very Greek-tastic. I did like the rice, but there were some pieces of peeled onions. I'm just a picky eater, you know.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Nah, we won't be back. The food had no flavor! Also, if eating inside, the establishment is situated oddly. The counter where the server is preparing the food faces the customers and more than once, I watched the guy run his bare hands on his jeans then still serve meals and package food! Big no no! Ugh!

Andrew L.

Yelp
The Nick's Fries and Chicken gyro were fire. We finally got a new flavor for Pinole to enjoy. Staff was cool too.
google avatar

Arielle G.

Yelp
Nick the Greek is a chain and we've been to other locations, so we knew what the food would be like. The food was solid, but what was really great about this place is that the staff went above and beyond to be kind to us and our toddler. We do not typically go out to eat at dinner with our toddler so having people be this attentive and helpful was really gratifying. We even got a sample of their frozen yogurt which was delicious. Toddler was a big fan of the soup and rice. We saw a lot of delivery drivers coming for to go orders, but I would encourage you to dine in at this location mostly for the wonderful staff.

Elsa Z.

Yelp
Came here after taking our kids to the Lawrence Museum, and let me tell you, we loved the food and so did the kids! The gyros, and the salads were great. The service, food quality, and atmosphere were great as well. Will definitely recommend this place for a great meal, and to be served with a smile. Thank you to all who helped us at Nick the Greek :)
google avatar

Daniel Z.

Yelp
I love Nick the Greek! Best gyros in America. Convenient location, close to campus too

Tom A.

Yelp
Meh Not bad for a chain but, you know you are at a chain fast food place. I had the Chicken Souvlaki wrap. I was underwhelmed. Very bland overall. The sauce had a little flavor and there were red onions. Other than that it is better than McDonald's across the street but not by that much. You can get significantly better wraps at several places nearby. You can also get much better Greek food for about the same price at various other places not that far away.

Lola P.

Yelp
A friend told me about this place so I had to come check it out. Amazing food! I got the chicken souvlaki bowl it's very filling for its price. The restaurant is very clean n well organized, employees are very nice people they greet you with a smile on their face very positive energy, they recommend food items and answer any questions you have! overall loved the food and place! overall loved the food n place! will be back for sure!!!!!

Yelp
I would recommend this location to anyone, the staff is always eager to help, welcoming atmosphere, amazing food, grate and brand new location with complete top to bottom remodeling done before opening day! Enjoy

Spartac B.

Yelp
Excellent food with a friendly and prompt service. The ambiance is festive and relaxed. I recommend it highly. I tried the Greek salad, Perfect!

Audio F.

Yelp
Dirty, unorganized, slow, unfriendly, overpriced, paid about $21, got about 3 oz of chicken. The meat was dry, very dry. Then all the food was drenched in honey mustard or an oddly flavorless pink sauce.

Wendy M.

Yelp
Lamb gyro was bussin, so glad I finally tried this place! Will definitely be back to try other menu items

Skin P.

Yelp
Great food, very professional staff, nice setting, for sure will come back! Highly recommend!!!

Mia M.

Yelp
Such a good gyro place. We've been looking for a quality gyro place for a while and I'm so glad this one finally opened. Fries and gyro are the best!

Yelp
I'm visiting the city and stop by at Nick The Greek the food was Great food and they have an excellent service! I will stop again

Nellia K.

Yelp
Healthy, good quality food, very friendly staff, nice environment, highly recommend!

Rhea S.

Yelp
Really good food!!! Bowls are yum and friendly staff. There is also good seating area

Cam D.

Yelp
Ordered for delivery, gave us half the serving size of every entree we ordered and did not include any sauces. Disappointing to have consume our meals so dry. Have never had this issue ordering for delivery from other locations

David K.

Yelp
Food was amazing, excellently seasoned and cooked. The place itself was very clean and staff was friendly, will definitely be coming back.
