"By appointment only, this vineyard and winery sits on 42 acres of what was an original 1880’s farmstead. Founded by husband-and-wife duo Gil and Beth Nickel in 1997, the property has retained all of the site’s original Queen Ann charm but houses a thoroughly modern wine operation. The Nickel family is committed to sustainability and employs the most modern production methods—the entire property is solar powered and organic. Underneath the newly built fermentation barns you’ll find a cavernous barrel cellar that stores the winery’s single vineyard Cabernet, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Syrah. They offer both tours and private tastings."

1- Review for Nickel & Nickel Winery – Disappointed on a Special Day / 2- Response to the review 1- I don’t usually write reviews like this, but I felt it was important to share our experience at Nickel & Nickel, especially because it was meant to be a special moment during our anniversary trip through Napa Valley. We were truly excited to visit, having admired the winery and its reputation for producing great wines. Unfortunately, what we hoped would be a beautiful memory turned into the most disappointing stop of our trip. We arrived just 2 minutes after our scheduled time, a little rushed but still full of anticipation. From the moment we stepped in, though, it felt like we were being hurried along. Our host, while knowledgeable, made the entire experience feel transactional like he was more interested in making a sale than in offering us a warm, memorable visit. Before the visit, we added a cheese plate to our reservation at the time of booking, something we were really looking forward to. When we arrived, we were told it wasn’t on the reservation, even though I showed proof that it was. The initial response was that it would be taken care of, but minutes later, we were told we’d be refunded instead. It felt dismissive, and to be honest, there was no real attempt to make it right. What hurt most was that we were celebrating our anniversary. Every other winery on our itinerary made us feel welcomed and celebrated. At Nickel & Nickel, we felt rushed, overlooked, and frankly unwelcome. It’s unfortunate, because we genuinely respect the quality of the wine. But hospitality is about more than what’s in the glass it’s about the experience, the people, the effort. Because of how the visit was handled, I’m kindly requesting a full refund, not just for the cheese plate, but for the tasting experience as a whole. We came in with excitement and left feeling disappointed on a day that was supposed to be special. I hope this feedback is taken in the spirit of sincerity with which it’s written. 2- Response to the review After we shared our honest feedback with the winery, we were truly surprised and incredibly grateful for the thoughtful and heartfelt response we received from their Hospitality Manager, Dominika. She not only acknowledged our concerns with sincerity and care but also went above and beyond by refunding our tasting fees and offering a bottle of wine as a gesture of appreciation. This response was completely unexpected and really changed the way we felt about It, it showed us the true character and values of the people behind the wines. We still believe in the quality of Nickel & Nickel and, the integrity of their team. When we return to Napa Valley, we’re open to giving them another chance and experiencing the hospitality they’re clearly committed to delivering. Thank you again to Dominika and the team for handling the situation with such grace. It meant a lot.

We had a wonderful tasting experience at Nickel & Nickel with Andrea, our sommelier. She took our small group on a brief tour of the facilities and we really appreciated the background about the geography of where each of the different cabs are sourced from. That info really played in to getting the most out of the tasting - and Andrea was able to fine tune the offerings to each of the group members’ taste preferences. Definitely look forward to our next tasting here!

Google
We were up here for a wedding and had time for only 1 winery. And we picked a GREAT one! They were so nice to fit us in. We had SO many tastes and they were all great. We even bought 9 bottles to ship home! SO good.

Google
We reserved the uncork and unwind tasting experience and it was nothing short of incredible. The winery is beautiful and our host Andrea provided such a great experience. She knew what we all liked by the end of the tasting and that is what we ordered. Definitely recommend becoming a wine club member as we also visited Bella Union that day and we will be back to visit Far Niente next time. Save time to walk around the gardens there as they are beautiful.

One of our absolute favorite wineries in Napa! What a wonderful place and experience. Andrea Perkins, or Hostess, was terrific! She is very knowledgeable, friendly, and made the tour a terrific experience for some new visitors in our group. 😊 Thanks to everyone - See you next time! Cheers🍷

Google
An amazing tour! We had Michael as our tour guide and he was fantastic. He brought us throughout the property and gave us an amazing tasting experience. After the first tasting he asked us what we liked and tailored the rest of the tasting to our palette. It was absolutely amazing and we truly loved it!

Google
Nickel & Nickel Winery provides an incredibly refined and focused wine tasting experience. The dedication to single-vineyard expressions is evident in every glass, allowing for a true appreciation of Napa Valley's diverse terroir. My tasting, guided by Adam, was particularly memorable. His passion and deep knowledge of the wines and the winery's philosophy were truly impressive. Adam's ability to articulate the subtle nuances of each vintage, and the unique characteristics of each vineyard, made the experience both educational and delightful. The winery itself is beautiful, with well-maintained grounds and a serene atmosphere that enhances the tasting. The attention to detail, from the impeccable service to the exceptional wines, sets Nickel & Nickel apart. It's a must-visit for anyone seeking a premium, insightful wine tasting in Napa Valley.

Google
Our tour was fascinating and extensive. Michael walked us through the winemaking process down to the soil of the local terroir. We thoroughly enjoyed his extensive knowledge and then his informed guidance of our own palates to serve us wines each of us might enjoy. The buildings are gorgeous with old school carpentry practices in a very modern style and the grounds are fit to spend a very long afternoon in.

Yelp
Stopped in last minute and Rafa took amazing care of us. We really appreciated his knowledge and information of the wines and knowledge of the history of the vineyard. So appreciated everything.

Yelp
Beautiful property and wonderful staff. Carson took us on a great tour and set up an excellent tasting for us. The wine was absolutely lovely. Can't wait to come back here.

Yelp
This was my first ever wine tasting and I'm so grateful it got to be with Nickel and Nickel. Upon arrival, we were given complimentary chardonnay which was so delicious. I'm not really a red wine drinker so I did feel a bit on edge knowing that the selection would be majority, if not all, red wine. We had booked a private tasting which happened to be outdoors on their porch. The wine selection was amazing and so were the snack pairings. We didn't feel rushed at all and the sommelier helping us was very informative. The indoor and outdoor areas are gorgeous. After our tasting we went back to the lobby and while waiting I was taking pictures of the lobby (no strangers were in my pictures as shown below). For some reason, an employee walked past and said "oh ok paparazzi", I felt this was really rude and I actually cried because I thought it was so mean. A woman approached me asking if an employee said that and I lied and said no so I wouldn't get him in trouble. Aside from that rude remark, my experience here was great.

Yelp
What a beautiful experience. It's my second time visiting Nickel and Nickel and it never disappoints. The staff here are so friendly and very knowledgeable about their wines, of course. The cooler part is that their coffee and lavender cheese is made from beehive, which is in Utah, where I currently live! I love their cabs and realized that I like their warmer climate cabs compared to their colder regions. Too bad their dogleg wines are discontinued, however, I did find a new favorite: 2018 Haynes Vineyard. I do want to do their tour next time and see their barns. Nickel and Nickel is typically my last stop of the wine tasting experience, so I'll have to switch up the schedule next time!

Yelp
I was able to get a chance to visit this winery while in Napa since I was also visiting Far Niente. I am not one for the rustic aesthetic but this place was gorgeous! I loved the look, elegant and quaint. Our guide was amazing and informative. The tasting is awesome. Great wines and some nice bites. Must stop in while in Napa.

Yelp
Today I had a private tasting with my host Natalie. First time to the winery and there is lots to say. Kelly greeted me at their Gleason Barn with their lovely 2023 Grand Sky Chardonnay. Light, fruity and refreshing to start. We then went to the historic Sullenger home. My host, Natalie, was very knowledgeable and fun. She was well versed with the history of the winery, the many soils of their vineyards throughout the Valley and explained their wide repertoire of delicious wines especially their Cabs. She knew how to read me as to my existing wine palate and also had me try a delicious cab with a bit more tannic style to it. All the wines were excellent and the tasting was accompanied with lovely cheese, figs, olives and breadsticks. It was a relaxing and educational tasting in a beautiful setting. When you come to Napa Valley, you don't want to miss a visit to Nickel & Nickel and ask for Natalie.

Yelp
Had the lucky school auction win and was able to come to this winery for a tour and tasting. The grounds were gorgeous with old growth, perfectly trimmed, fragrant roses and flowering plants and beautifully restored farm house buildings. We were given our first tasting upon entry to the garden by a greeter, and lead to the front of the building to our tour guide and host, Eric. He was amazing! We learned so much about the history of the family and the property, the geology of the region and soil differences from one end of the valley to the other, the small batch production of this winery and even the use of the barrels for storage and fermentation. Eric was very impressive with his knowledge!! After the tour we were lead into the dining room of the main farm house for tasting of 5 Cabernets, along with three types of cheese, a pretzel stick and fig treats on a plate to experiment with pairing. Eric encouraged experimentation with the different wines, in various orders, to really see how the flavors changed with the region, soil and heat which we had just learned about. It was a blast! The wine was pricey, and we were not able to buy that day, but the experience was memorable!

Yelp
Beautiful winery, great service, and amazing wines! The painful part is - since when did tastings become $100+? At least Nickel and Nickel's came with a tour and tiny bites to go with our wine pairings. Other wineries can be $120 for wine only. I can't say every single wine is a hit, but the ones that are good are downright amazing. This is some of the best chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon I've ever had. I don't typically like chardonnay, but this theirs is special. Reminds me of Rombauer but a tad less sweet. Not too buttery, not too oaky. The perfect amount of creaminess. FYI the map says they have EV chargers here and they don't. Be aware. Be sure to check out their sister winery, Far Niente as well! Do both in one day. So so worth visiting.

Yelp
I visited Nickel and Nickel on a Tuesday morning for their Communal Tour and Tasting: Unveiling the Winemaking Journey. We had a group of about 7 people total. Our guide was Carson and he did a fantastic job taking us around the winery and showing us very cool things - like the collection of soil, the cave, etc. He was also very personable. With the tour, we got to try around 8 wines (mostly Cabernet) including the Dolce from their sister winery, Far Niente. They also had a small cheese platter for each person with 3 cheeses, a bread stick, a fig, and 2 olives. The price was around $110 a person at the time of this review. I'd recommend it!

Yelp
Nickel & Nickel is one of my favorite places in Napa Valley. Nickel and Nickel specializes in single vineyard wines. After years of drinking wine, I've learned single yards really showcase the fruit of the region. Therefore,if you you love single vineyard cabs, this is the place for you! You will get to sample the different AVAs of Napa. They have a beautiful and rustic tasting room to enjoy their various offerings. The team at Nickel and Nickel are hospitable and ready to educate you on their various offerings. Great customer service and excellent wines. Highly recommend for people who appreciate great single vineyards.

Yelp
Such a wonderful experience!! Our wine tasting was just amazing! As wine club members, you expect no less, however David really made this visit extraordinary! We never felt rushed to get to the next wine and we were able to really savor each delicious pour! The place was busy, and David had several guests besides us - yet we never felt we were waiting for the next wine. The grounds are spectacular with both indoor and outdoor options. We sat outside and enjoyed the fountain view. Comfortable outdoor furniture and relaxing vibe and delicious wine - everything you want when you book a tasting! So looking forward to our next visit! Cheers!

Yelp
I recently visited Nickel & Nickel with a few of my girlfriends and was very excited to try the wines. Coming into the experience, I even contemplated joining if I enjoyed the wines. And, I enjoyed the wines! But, I decided not to because I felt the experience was unwelcoming, unfriendly and unmemorable. Our experience was being hosted by someone who sometimes came off as "nice" but ultimately would say things very passive aggressively. I love going to Napa and enjoy revisiting wineries I love. Although I did enjoy the majority of the wines, I don't think I'll be coming back because of the experience itself.

John K.

Yelp
Wonderful experience. Did private tasting and hosted by Michael. Setting, wine, education was outstanding. Started several tastes of recent vintages. Michael then spent time asking us what we liked, learning more about our interests and then brought us additional tastings that matched perfectly with his engagement. Tasting was also paired with cheese and figs. Very well done. Favorites were Beatty and Element 28.
google avatar

Gerri S.

Yelp
The "private" tasting was among the most disappointing I've taken. The host showed up 15 minutes late to collect us, rushed us to the porch, deposited us at a table where the wine was already poured and then said he'd be back and left us to figure out what the wines were. What the wines were it turned out was bad - they had no nose and therefore no taste. When the host finally came back, he described the wines as young. Hmmm then they were so young they should have stayed in the cellar. Unfortunately there wasn't anything redeeming about the experience and I cannot recommend going here.

Yelp
Today we toured the three barns and the main house at Nickel & Nickel. Eric, our tour guide was knowledgeable and gave wonderful information about soil and climate. The single vineyard wines were outstanding, the grounds were beautiful.

Yelp
This was our first winetasting try in the age of COVID so we were completely ready to bail if the set-up was not to our liking but it was perfect. We waited at a well-spaced table on a lawn. The setting is pretty close to "fairytale." Our server came to get us and led us to a wonderful table on the porch of the white house that anchors the property. I've long been a fan of the wines, especially the Merlots. This outpost of Far Niente is known for their single-vineyard wines. The wines were fantastic. The pours were decent while I'll stop short of generous. It was a nice touch that in conversation, I mentioned that I enjoy Syrahs and my wife enjoys Pinots and our server found one of each that was not on the menu that she added as a treat. This place is reservation only. All the time. There is a gate they have to open for you to get in and in the past, we tried to pull up and see if they could squeeze us in and it's always been a hard no. So, reserve in advance! This was a solid experience. I look forward to giving it a try in non-COVID times in the future.

Yelp
Such a lovely experience! Nickel & Nickel never disappoints. As wine club members, you expect no less, however Michael made this visit extraordinary! We never felt rushed and was able to enjoy our pours and the beautiful setting. Michael is very knowledgeable of the fine wines and the Napa region. Can't wait to return back soon!

Yelp
I have no choice but to crown Nickel & Nickel one of the best wineries in wine country. The service, delivery, vineyard, and of course wine are constantly top notch. Every time I've brought a friend here, they have always been thoroughly impressed. The pictures and reviews online do not do it justice. The cheese pairings also deserve their own shoutout, given some of my favorites were introduced here. If you're stopping by, Far Niente is a must-stop sister winery just up the road with a different flavor and delicious cabs.

Yelp
I really need to get better about writing my reviews when I get back from a trip! I had the pleasure and privilege to have a private tasting at Nickel & Nickel back on March 23rd, 2019 thanks to my friend who is a member at Far Niente. From start to finish we had the best time walking around the grounds but, more importantly, let's talk about the wine tasting... shall we! When we first arrived we were treated to a nice white wine which I loved! Shane Price, our host and legitimate sommelier picked us up from the main area and took us on a brief tour around the grounds while he shared some history about the single vineyard winery. We settled into the historic-looking, red barn and started our intimate tasting. Before I start on the wines, I need to mention that one of my favorite parts of the tasting was asking him about the sommelier test and learning how truly intense the test is to become a sommelier! Shane treated us to four different cabernet sauvignons (2016 Kenefick Ranch Vineyard; 2016 Quarry Vineyard; 2016 John C. Sullenger Vineyard; and 2016 Element 28 Vineyard) and he described them perfectly. I am honestly not a huge fan of red wines in general but these were great! And, of course, the cheese was delightfully tasty as well. All in all, a fantastic experience! I would love to come back to Nickel & Nickel in the future. It was a great visit on a great weekend! Thank you Shane for sharing your knowledge and passion with us!

Yelp
My two friends and made an appointment here for a mid week tasting. None of us had been here before but have always wanted to try. First of all, the grounds are gorgeous! So many varieties of flowers. Our host (Aaron I believe) gave us a great tour of the grounds, it was fascinating to see the barn that's on property that was built in 1770 and predates nails! We also were shown soil samples of all the vineyards associated from the Maya mountains and Vaca mountain ranges, which was very unique and a nice touch in my opinion. After our tour we were shown to our table for our tasting that was on their back porch. It was a beautiful day out and after trying cabs, merlots, chardonnay and syrahs we left happy and content with a couple bottles to take home. What a nice afternoon.

Sarah B.

Yelp
Wow! I'm a member of Far Niente's wine club and have visited a couple of times, but had never made the time to visit Nickel & Nickel, and I really regret it! I agree with others that pictures you see really don't do the property justice. Even during Covid, my party of four had an absolutely amazing time with Andrea as our host. She was so friendly and fun to chat with! We had a table on the patio and were safely distanced from other tables. Our tasting was 3 pm, one of the last tastings of the day, so it felt very intimate. After our delightful tasting, we were permitted to walk around the grounds for a bit and take some pictures. I can't wait to visit again!
google avatar

Yelp
Upon first arriving here, our AMAZING wine educator, Savannah met us as we walked up with two glasses of amazing Far Niente Chardonnay and thanked us for being there! What a PERFECT way to start an incredible tasting visit!! Their grounds are stunning... buildings are amazing... landscaping was picture-perfect and customer service was outstanding! We enjoyed learning about their single-vineyard verticals and the terroir that affects nose and palate of each, even though they are all cabernet sauvignon and the same vintage. Loved this learning experience! Loved being able to walk around, taking in the scenery while snapping pics... they have beautiful horses to check out while there as well. We're so very happy we became members here (many months ago, before ever visiting) and we were able to visit, it helped solidify our decision to maintain our membership! We'll be back!!

Yelp
Nickel and Nickel is a great place to stop to soak up a bit of what Napa might have been like in the pre-prohibiton era in early 1900's. This historic home has been restore since then and currently being used as the main house of the winery from where you begin your tour and then proceed to the barn, the wine cellar and the tasting room. I really liked this winery and the over all tour of this place. It is a sister winery to Far Niente. This was our first stop on our second day in Napa/Sonoma wine country. It is a beautiful vineyard and there is so much to look at the property. The best part of the tour was wine barrel caves, There're endless rows of barrels with spectacular views. Our tour guide Walt was amazing and knew a lot about win making process. He was full of energy and extremely passionate about wine. He single handedly made this experience so much better. He also mentioned that none of the wines are blended with grapes from other vineyards; they are truly single vineyard wines. Hence the reason why Nickel & Nickel wines taste amazing and it definitely raises the price of their wine compare to others in the area. Our wine tasting took about 90 minutes and we headed back to main house porch area to grab some food. Walt was generous enough to pour us few glasses of wine while we spent extra hour or so after our tasting. We ended up purchasing 3 bottles after the tour. For people coming to Napa, this is the first place you should stop. FYI, You need to make a reservation in way advance since they are limited to the number of tastings that they give in a day. I highly recommend what wine tour and tasting!
google avatar

Hila P.

Yelp
We made an appointment to come here for my birthday and do a wine tasting and we're seated on the patio overlooking the grounds. It was a beautiful setting and our host was most attentive and devoted much time to not only pouring our wine, but talking to us extensively about the region and various influences affecting winemakers in the region over time. We had some delicious wines, both whites and reds and went home with a few bottles as well. Of course we could not leave the property without stopping to take pictures as there are beautiful gardens, horses, and quaint touches everywhere.
google avatar

Elaine R.

Yelp
So pretty here. It's one of the pricier winery, but also worth every penny. The tastings are $80 sit down or tour but they make every minute relaxing to soak in the beauty of the grounds and the great customer service. Tasting starts at a beautifully furnished sitting area , and normally provide a chardonnay to enjoy the area and your guide/sommelier introduce themselves. I've gone several times and all the sommelier/guides are friendly knowledge and make it tailored to the group. If tour, they will bring you around the grounds. The tasting has a tasting menu with preprinted names (nice personal touch). About 4-5 single vineyards with my favorite cheeses (midnight moon, beemster, and piave). The wines are amazing and alone are worth the $$$. The different places are always nice from barn to cellar area, to outside veranda .. for outside area they provide blankets. For wine club members, tasting are free + guests. I love the wine club here. The club events are always fun and yummy food. Also allows you to do tasting to sister wineries Far Niente (another beautiful winery).

Nivi R.

Yelp
This place explains and represents why Napa wines get the global recognition that they do. Phenomenal wines and tasting experience. Enjoyed several of their cabs and also was lucky to get a tasting of their Chardonnay and Dolce. Bought several bottles for the holidays and to give gifts to friends + signed up for the club membership. Truly memorable tasting experience and looking to enjoy their wines for years to come.

Rency R.

Yelp
Not one to write reviews but after going to at least 4 wine tours in the span of 1.5 days, I have to say David Pennycook is a great wine educator. He was engaging, genuine, funny and easy to talk to. I don't know much about wine so it was great to hear the history, wine making process and enjoy good company. Not to mention they have great wine. So if you are going to spend a crap ton of money on these wine tours, definitely check him out!
google avatar

Jim S.

Yelp
All single varietal wines with 1 Chardonnay from Truchard and the remaining varietal is now only Cabernet...single Napa vineyard cabs are amazing as you find your way to your preferred appellation to your taste...we were on our way to Far Niente and had a "minute" to stop in and the team was so accommodating and friendly ...making time for us.

Greg S.

Yelp
Aloha What an amazing and delicious vineyard Our host Aaron Feaver was above and beyond fabulous We're so thankful for getting Aaron as he bent over backwards to make sure we received the full NICKEL experience Great knowledge of his products and we enjoyed the information
google avatar

Sarah L.

Yelp
We had Andrea as our tour guide and she was truly knowledgeable and very thoughtful in her selection of wines to try. She showed us the barrels and explained how each barrel brought their own flavor to the wine. The grounds are gorgeous and the wine is robust and delicious. highly recommend.

Corissa L.

Yelp
Nickel & Nickel Parties are always great and the 2016 Futures Barrel Tasting held in May was fantastic way to experience (and buy) wines while they are still in the barrel. Our favorites for 2016 include: the John C. Sullenger, Dragonfly, Beatty Ranch, State Ranch. Looking forward to picking up these beauties next year when they finish aging and are bottled. Also, the steak sandwiches they served at lunch were an excellent accompaniment to the wine. Visiting this winery requires reservations, but the tour and tasting are well worth it. All the wines are single vineyard, single varietal. We've been drinking Nickel & Nickel since 2006, and all the wines in general have always been very good, but our favorites bottles change from year to year. To get invited to the fabulous parties, join the wine club and buy lots of wine. :)

Yelp
First off, I am a member of the wine club and came here with two friends on a girls trip to Napa. Included in the wine club membership, we received a fantastic private winetasting. This place exceeded expectations not only with the wine, but the grounds and knowledge of not The buildings history, but wine in general. Our sommelier, was fantastic and had just become a level two. We had our tasting in the old barn, and it was one of my favorite tastings yet! After the tasting, we were able to walk around and enjoy them blooming tulips, and gorgeous trees they have on the property. I highly recommend not only joining the wine club, but stopping by for a tasting.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing tour, this winery is less flashy than the others but their hosts & wine make up for it. This is 1 of 9 wineries in the region that do cab's with 100% cab grapes. Very yummy. Our host Andrea was perfection, very knowledgeable, very friendly and gave us space. The grounds are beautiful and very natural. Think gorgeous mid-western farm with winery and event space.

Yelp
Always love the wine here as they only offer Single Vineyard Cab, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Syrah, same as Far Niente Winery, and the delicious Dolce dessert wine. Nickel & Nickel winery, located in Oakville, Napa Valley, is dedicated exclusively to producing 100 percent varietal, single-vineyard wines that best express the distinct personality of each vineyard. They grow and produce single-vineyard Cabernet from 15 discrete vineyards, offers 6 Napa Valley appellations, areas recognized for growing distinctive Cabernet Sauvignon. Their Cabernet collection includes vineyards from north to south, east to west, on the valley floor and hillsides. At any given time, a tasting of our Nickel & Nickel Single-Vineyard Cabernets provides an overview of the vintage for the entire Napa Valley. You got to explore their single-vineyard Cabernets online, or join them for a tour and tasting at their Napa Valley farmstead on hwy 29. By appointment only, you got to taste plenty of great wines! If you become their wine club member, they throw the best holiday party, food, wine, classic cars, and music, good time had by all. - Sullenger, State Ranch, Dragonfly, CC Ranch, Hayne, Element 28, and more! Enjoy, and if you love full bodied cab, this is a must visit.

Yelp
We went to Mondavi... no luck to get there without a reservation... we crossed the street and there it was.. nice grounds, beautiful and the hospitality of Steve was amazing!! He was very amicable and helpful!! Definitely will go back there and will recommend everyone to go there when in Napa!!

Yelp
When charging a tasting fee of $65.00 per person, you'd better have a darn good tasting and tour experience. Thankfully Nickel & Nickel does. Is it worth that steep price? No, it's not. But at least after my tour I didn't feel totally ripped off. This isn't the friendliest place around, and it isn't easy to actually secure a reservation. Once we did, we were sent a lengthy e-mail that had a not-so-welcoming tone. Arrive early or you'll forfeit your tasting fee, but don't arrive earlier than 5 minutes and don't you dare be more than 5 minutes late. What? Not the best first impression. Once you arrive at the gate, you have to buzz in and get past the gatekeeper hostess. The hostess on intercom duty wasn't that friendly on the day of our visit. Call me crazy but when I'm paying $130 for two for the "privilege" to taste YOUR wine, wine that YOU want ME to buy, I expect a little bit of good old fashioned butt kissing. Thankfully once we arrived on the front porch we were welcomed and invited to sit in the parlor. The tasting experience begins in the living room / reception area of an old house. The creaky wood floors are pretty and the traditional furniture adds to the ambience. A few minutes later, our host came in and started to give our group a brief history of the winery. We were on a tour with two other couples. Our host, Walt, walked us all over the property. Most winery tours are a dime a dozen but the enthusiasm of our host kept this one from being a total bummer. Walt was simply amazing. His warmth, spirit and passion was well above par; his love for wine contagious! Nickel & Nickel's wine barrel caves are pretty cool. Don't forget your camera, there are seemingly endless rows of oak barrels down there. It smells so good and is the show stopper moment of the tour. I'm still annoyed that in order to taste the wines I was forced to take an hour long tour. It was too long and unnecessary. After the tour we were finally able to sit down in a dining room setting to taste four wines. There was a very informative tasting booklet as well as 3 small slices of cheese to pair with the wines. Oddly enough, there was no instruction as to which cheeses to pair with which wines. The cheese were all much better than the wines. The wines were very disappointing across the board. We only sort of enjoyed one of them, especially for the $100 price point. We aren't cheap wine drinkers, we regularly buy wine by the case that's priced anywhere from $85 to $225 per bottle. But these prices seemed astronomically high and the cost did not jibe with the quality or taste. So we did something we hardly ever do: we left without making a purchase. It wasn't just the price point either, the wines simply weren't tasty. I'm no winemaker but when I tasted the wines I reflected back on something Walt mentioned on the tour: none of the wines are blended with grapes from other vineyards; they are truly single vineyard wines. This got me thinking that maybe Nickel & Nickel sacrifices good taste for the bragging rights of saying they never blend and combine vineyards. Sadly, that means their wines and their drinkers suffer. All in all this was an okay experience. I'm rating it 4 stars solely due to Walt and the deliciousness of the cheeses. Our tour group had two other couples, one of which had a "know it all." He would NOT...STOP...BLABBING and bragging about the wines he likes, the exclusive wine clubs he belongs to, the price points of his favorite wines, blah blah blah. The other couple looked super uncomfortable by this but we are experienced wine drinkers so we simply tuned the dude out. I didn't find it to be intimidating or snobby at all, but I do feel like this entire experience is geared towards an older crowd. Your parents and grandparents would probably love this place.

Yelp
This was our first visit to wine country. With so many choices it's hard to know where to go. Additionally, many of the Napa wineries were appointment only. Moreover, the tastings are not cheap at at $75.00 per person with others as much as $150.00 per person. In this case, our daughter's new friend set up the tasting for us. The appointments are generally set for 11:30 , 1:00 snd 3:00. Groups are kept relatively small with our appointment only for five people. Moreover, if you are 15 minutes late or more the tasting begins without you. By the way, you pay for the tasting when you make the appointment and it's non-refundable. The winery is easy to find since it's off the main highway. You turn into the property in order to park and and go into the Sullenger House which was restored instead of being replaced. You are shown into s parlor to wait for your guide. You're immediately given a glass of crisp Chardonnay to start your day. Our guide, Ian joined us to inform us that we were waiting for the rest of our tasting group. When they didn't show up within the allotted time we started without them. We walked across the backyard to the wine processing area. In the back of the building was a display of the different souls encompassing their different vineyards. Nickel & Nickel is a single grape vineyard for all of the varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon and the display gave s quick overview as to how the soil effects the flavor of the grape in s particular vineyard. We then took s quick tour of the wine cellar filled with oak barrels of wine. We ultimately returned to the house for our tasting. We were shown into a room that might have been a dining room in another lifetime. There was a sampling of 5 different Cabernet Sauvignon along with a small sampling of cheeses to go with the wine. Our guide, Ian was extremely knowledgeable about the area and the wines. There was also a place setting with our names printed on it accompanying a price list and a map Of their different vineyards. These are high end wines and we bought several because we might have a very special occasion coming up and and they will fit the moment.

Yelp
We've always seen Nickel & Nickel wines on restaurant menus so we were super excited for our visit to their winery. The property is beautiful and they even have a few horses. Our host Marcos gave us a really nice tour of the grounds and then we had a private seated tasting with some cheese pairings. This tasting was unlike any we've done and we got to taste their different single vineyard cabs side by side. Marcos showed us on a map where each vineyard was for each wine, so fun to see! This tasting was a bit of a splurge but very worth it for cab lovers. Would definitely return for another tour and tasting.

Yelp
N&N deserves six Yelps - this is my absolute favorite winery in the Oakville AVA as well as in Napa. I write this review with a bit of bias since I've been a member for years now, but I wasn't a member prior to becoming one and their wines are nothing shy of outstanding. Obviously, I became a member! It's very rare to find such a great diversity of single vineyard wines from such a vast array of soil types - I love their approach to single vineyard Cabs ONLY, with a fantastic chardonnay as well; slightly different than what you'd expect thus making it even more lovely. I visit N&N 4-5x a year when I'm out in the Bay Area and I won't stop...their tastings and tours never get old, it's unique every time! I've had the pleasure to meet their winemaker a few times upon my recent visits and it only elevates the experience six fold. Walt Bells is by far the best tasting/tour guide working at a winery in Napa and dare I say all of California. He is nothing shy of just terrific... Make a reservation well in advance, ask for Walt, and enjoy what they have to offer. I love N&N so much...keep doing what you guys are doing. THIS has been a review by Gaurav

Yelp
Don't bother with this place. We had a reservation. We were a little early, they had us wait around while they took a walk-in and wanted us to wait while they helped the walk-in. There are so many other wineries, do yourself a favor and spend your money elsewhere

Yelp
We had a reservation, they couldn't find it which was fine but they wouldn't even let us through the gate. Let us through and discuss, don't ignore us. We are industry, not looking for favors but would like to enjoy the experience. We definitely won't go back!! We went somewhere else that would accept us and definitely enjoyed the experience elsewhere

Yelp
This has been on my bucket list longer than I can remember and I was finally able to check it off! And then add it back on because I will be back! Rutherford/Oakville cabs are my favorites wine. When arriving one of the first things I noticed was how beautiful the grounds are. As you enter the house, you are warmly greeted by the hosts who then hands you a glass of wine while you wait in the "living room". Once the party is all there and ready, they walk you out the back to the barn area. The tasting is a sit down accompanied with paired cheese, crackers and olives. Our host was Kaleigh and we felt like we were all friends by the end of the tasting. She was great and a joy to chat with as well as patient with us :-) All of the cabs that we tasted were delicious and some of us bought some bottles which comped one of the tastings. Nickel & Nickel is a bit pricier than others in the area but it is worth all of it since these are single vineyard wines that are amazing and with wonderful hospitality to go with it. Thank you, Kaleigh!

Yelp
We had a small group and Michael was our host, we were treated so kindly and the tasting was amazing. Nickel and Nickel have some of the best wines in the Napa Valley. Great experience for us all!

Yelp
Top Napa cabs at this place. Good tour with good information, nice tasting with good stuff. Very enjoyable, and we used the credit from the tour price to apply to a case which we ordered. Good experience all around.
