Where To Go After A Game While The Stadium Traffic Clears - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Usually after a game, you head straight to XFinity Live, and then spend the next 25 minutes working your way through a human jungle gym just to wait another 10 minutes in line for a $12 can of beer. We’re not saying that’s worse than waiting in traffic, but it’s not not worse than waiting in traffic. Next time, walk another few hundred steps to Nickel’s Tavern. It’s the diviest South Philly dive bar, and the exact place you should spend a couple of hours drinking $4 beers and eating a $5 appetizer sampler while you wait for 60,000 people to exit the area." - sydney mcelwee

Nickels Tavern - Review - South Philly - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Nickel’s Tavern is the diviest South Philly dive bar there is, and it’s the perfect alternative to heading to XFinity live after a game on Broad Street. They do cheap bears from $3 and, while you’re not coming here to eat, you can get a $5 appetizer sampler with things like mozzarella sticks and jalapeno poppers that will work just fine after you’ve had a few beers." - Sydney McElwee

Probably the best and only $4 sandwich I’ve ever had. The menu feels like you’re taking a step back in time with the prices. It’s a dive, don’t expect gourmet. Service is great, food is great, and we will be coming back for a drink next time we are in the area.

What can I say about Nickels that isn't great... Starting with the Owner, who is a great guy that has a great local establishment. Always drink specials & reasonable prices. The menu is below w great prices & food is made fresh daily. The Roast Beef Sliders are delicious. He is always doing cookouts & complimentary food on Holidays & for Game Days. When I stopped in on Sunday to say hello, he bought me a drink & there was Free 🍕.. Does it get any better. The bar is clean & always local people in there.. it's a great representation of South Philly to me... Diverse Crowd all hanging out & having fun, Friendly & Full of Old School Hospitality & Always a Great Deal to be Found if you know where to go... If you haven't been , Check it out. They are also Pet Friendly for Well Behaved Pets... Hoping to do a Fundraiser there in the Future....

There used to be a DJ. No DJ makes it a less desirable place to be. Also the bathroom needs a good cleaning and real paper towels.

Friendly crowd, nice bartenders. I didn't order any food, but it smelled good and looked good. First time there. Reasonable prices. I got a corona and a shot 10$

Yelp
Great atmosphere, THE ROAST BEEF SANDWICH IS A MUST! You cannot find a sandwich of that quality for $5 anywhere. Traveling from Illinois and I'm blown away!

Yelp
Found this place on instagram the food looked appealing and and reasonably priced so I thought I'd give it a chance! HUGE MISTAKE!!! Ordered my food online at 11:02pm here it is 12:20am and I'm STILL sitting here waiting on my food! The bare is fairly empty so why it's taking this long is a mystery I'll never solve. Bar tenders aren't really communicating, , the cook isn't communicating. I'm just sitting here looking and all I can say is never again!

Yelp
Fantastic place. Anything goes. Two glasses got broken while we were there. Some skirts got lifted. I really hate smoking inside though. That would give any normal place one star for me. Cool music and atmosphere. I surprised it has a yelp. Doesn't seem like the type of place that cares what anyone thinks.

Yelp
I'm so glad this family run neighborhood bar is open they took great pride in making sure everyone is safe During the coronavirus they remodeled the bar so everybody is 6 feet apart everyone has a mask on ! The food is excellent and get a lot for your money roast roast beef is out of this world !

Yelp
Nickels is a Vibe it is a cash only bar keep that in mind but they do have a atm available inside. The drinks are very much affordable let's just say for a Bomb (RedBull+choice of shot) start at $5 also they have a soul food menu Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays power by MakeLuvToYourTasteBuds!! But also have a daily bar menu available Daily. On the weekends they have a live Dj 9-2am Fridays and Saturdays w/Free entry and on Sundays is R&B night. it's a must attend n catch the vibes with Joe, Kim, Tash, Christiana, janelle, big Joe, Rich, etc

Yelp
It really hasn't been as fun since Jen left. Kim, Joe, and the others are great, but, they aren't her. They also raised their drink prices. I shouldn't be paying $10 for a pitcher of domestic beer. It was $7 or $8 in December. With the introduction of their drink specials...it's like they're trying to compete with other 2st bars. In a bad way. Other than that, it's still worth going on Thursdays because the jukebox is free from like 10-1 and the food is still the same. That will keep it at 4.

Yelp
This is my favorite spot since I moved to Philly in 8/16. This is a SMOKING BAR. The beer is cheap enough and the liquor selection is better than many South Philly dives. No need for a citywide, you'll spend about the same. $3 domestic drafts and $4 crafts. About 8 rotating beers on draft. Cash only!! But you knew that, c'mon this is Philly. They make a fine roast beef sandwich and other small apps like wings or mozzarella sticks. No full dinners, just bites. Juke box is free on Wednesday or Thursday but I haven't been here during the week in quite awhile. DJ on the weekend and this is a great place to watch the game. But let me get to the important part. The VIBE!! This place just feels like home. Total throwback bar. The staff is friendly and people just strike up a conversation with whomever. You'll soon meet Mike, Ralphie, and all the regulars. There's always a great holiday meal here if you're lonely on the 4th of July, Halloween, you name it. This place is a smooth party. Tell em Bruce sent you.

Yelp
Nickels Tavern was rated 4th Awesome Dive Bar in Philadelphia by "ZAGAT"! Personally I think you should try Nickels for yourself cas a lot of these reviews are from 2012 and 2013! Except for the review from Marissa obviously a friend of Jens, btw the pitcher of beers are not 10$ for domestic, it's $9 n bigger than before! Nickels tavern went under new management about 2 yrs ago and Joe turned this place around, all I can say is COME SEE FOR YOURSELF! There's a DJ on Sats playing great music and everyone dances and has a great time, there is a new draft system, they now have 12 TAPS ON DRAFT, go in on a weekend nite and it's packed with people dancing and enjoying themselves! Even during the week is busy, every bartender is friendly and makes you feel comfortable when u walk in! Hope to see you there!

Yelp
Based on those fish bowl drinks - yummy! But it was tough to get the bartenders attention at times.

Yelp
For this kind of bar, I didn't expect much. I only got drinks, but they were very cheap and very strong compared to others in the Philly area. The staff, nothing but friendly. I only dealt with one jackass here who kept kicking the bathroom door thinking I was trying to get in while I was checking to see if it was locked. Cash only though.

Yelp
Came in this bar once seem to be a lot of underage I even walked in the bathroom to see two 18-23 year olds snorting coke off the sink horrible place smokey but the juke box is good

Yelp
This spot gets 5 stars for a great dive bar! Came in on a Monday night hoping to get a sandwich and a beer. No food so I ordered a Bud Light and a shot of Jim Beam. Total cost: $6.50. That's a great deal. Joe the bartender was friendly and attentive. Local crowd seemed cool enough. This is the spot if you are looking for a dive bar to watch a game or just have some cheap drinks. Oh, did I mention they sell 40 oz. Beers to go?
