Nick's Famous Coney Island

The spicy mayonnaise was real good, along with everything else. However, most products are pork.

If you’re looking for a dive bar, this is a solid representation with great food and all the things a person looks for in a dive bar. It’s sandwiched between a money laundering stereo store and a barber shop. The outside windows are largely covered with poster about local activities and the inside is festooned with sports memorabilia. Locals adorn the bar top and play noisy games of quarters on the stainless steel bar and rock/metal music plays through the decent speakers. There is a reasonable selection of whiskeys and other libations to choose from. There are some unique local cocktail specials and a happy hour menu. From the menu I ordered a tasty bowl of tater tots and they came with ketchup and mustard. If I had more time the entire menu looked worth entertaining but they close the kitchen at 9 in the sleepy town of Portland and were looking to kick folks out around 10. Tucked away in the back there is a game of Buck Hunter along with a few pinball games and a lovely game of Lucky Eggs!

Great staff, drinks are priced low/mid, good hot dogs and the people who regular here are friendly. I always come here to experience Portland in its truest form, lift my spirits, and have a great time. They have the BEST Chicken Wings in the State ! 100% Smoked and perfected by the sauce. Trust me, get the Wings !!!

Fantastic place. We were in Oregon for 4 days and decided to get a lunch before our flight and were really craving Coney dogs. This place came up on the map with good reviews so we figured we'd give it a try. The staff was friendly, the environment was welcoming and it was a great lunch experience. The food was quality, not the very best Coney dog I've ever had and that's the only reason I give it a four-star instead of a five. Don't get me wrong, well worth the drive. Healthy portions as well.

Nice place inside. Has that East Coast Feel. The food is good. The bartender kinda has that cold "What do you want" sort of attitude. But it could just be he is also from the East Coast. The smoked Chicken Wings were great! The cook who made them was even nice enough to come out and check on me to make sure they tasted alright. I would go back again. I just need to remember to bring my thick skin...🤣

As a Portland native that grew up here in the 90s Nick’s Famous Coney Island is an establishment that stands against the winds of time again and again. Always. Good service first, great food second, good music third, and great art fourth, and solid pinball fifth. Five stars and been rocking It for decades. Great place for after shopping or for me, a refuge when taking out friends shopping and I just want to kick it somewhere kool at my friends try on everything under the sun at all the local clothing shops around on Hawthorne blvd. Come once to try come again for what you liked last time. Recommended.

We had the bacon cheddar dog...SOO good! Tater tots are good too

We bought quite a few dogs, wanting a large sample selection, since it was our first visit. We ordered 4 dogs & here they are in our order of favorites first: Chicago dog 🤤, a double Coney Island dog 🎪, a Seattle dog 🇩🇪, and a Cowboy dog. The Chicago dog is a classic & Nick's does it justice & then some. The Coney Island dog had some of the best chilli I've had in Oregon yet. The Seattle dog was delicious, but could have done with a little less sauce- it overpowered the sauerkraut a bit. The Cowboy dog was good, but far too tomato-y. I was expecting much more of a BBQ taste to the dog & got a much richer ketchup taste from it, so it bottomed out our list. The restaurant was spacious and set up quite nicely. The restroom however were tiny & not the cleanest (it is a bar too though, so this wasn't unexpected). The service was surprisingly quick, despite there only being 2 workers, the cook & Nick (the owner). Nick was aces. He was polite, courteous & funny. He refilled our drinks before we could hit the bottom of our glasses. He asked how our meal was going a few times & how we liked the food. It was one of the most pleasant experiences we've had in Portland. We'll definitely be back & we'd definitely recommend. Just make sure to use the restroom before you head down. 😂😅

This place rocks. The negative reviews are weird. One person is frustrated because it was wing week and another got upset due to a dog licking them. If you're looking for some delicious good ol' American plop, then this is your jam.

Good little dive bar. They have some beers at good prices, enough TV's that they can have Sunday Ticket, and the food is pretty good. I had the Chili Cheese Fries which were a good size and my buddy got a dog which I didn't try. Hot dogs are a little pricey for hot dogs, but looked good. Bartender was friendly too.

This place is still here, and hopefully, it's not going anywhere soon. The interior is still pretty much the same with a nostalgic vibe. For Burger Week, they have a special Jersey Burger being served and a limited menu. The Burger is pretty filling and tasty. They also have RC Soda from the gun (which is rare these days)

Vicious attacks to your tastebuds.... It's a boxing themed bar so yes, pun intended. If you don't see stars while watching an amazing meal being served, well.... Have a beer. The single coney and fries paired nicely with a margarita. The staff was very cheerful and had a great sense of humor. Bring quarters... it's a surprise.

I guess it was okay? The bartender was friendly but did a *lot* of complaining about the houseless people in Portland, which seemed a bit ignorant and frankly unnecessary. The menu was limited due to wings week or something, which wasn't why I was there, but I guess it wasn't a crisis. The wings were pretty good, in the end. Not normally what I would get but didn't have a lot of options. Not the most welcoming atmosphere, in the end.

Dog friendly inside! Football Sunday breakfast specials! Get anything with the pork roll on it if you like bacon/spam/scrapple etc.

The last 3 times I have tried to eat here they have closed early. The last time I actually ate here the service was slow and unfriendly. If you do happen to get to eat here, the food is tasty. But this place has lost my business for good.

This place is just pure awesome. Nick makes a phenomenal Mezcal margherita and the kitchen made the best damn Buffalo sandwich I've ever tasted! Great place for a quick bite and great drinks. Super mellow atmosphere as well. The owner's dog sat right next to me! Will definitely be returning next time I'm in Portland.

I always want a hot dog. It's become a recurring joke between me and my girlfriend as we walk around the Mission, even leaving a restaurant completely full and seeing a hot dog cart makes me want to order one. So when I was scoping out spots on Hawthorne, of course I bookmarked Nick's Famous Coney Island. I had just left Powell's Hawthorne, it was pouring, and I was hungry. I lucked out that Nick's was across the street, knew it wouldn't take long, and went in. Only like one other person was in the dive bar at the time, so the waiter asked what I wanted. He was a standard bartender/chef - friendly with the locals, tolerant of this stranger but not hostile or avoidant. Looking at the menu, I figured I had to get a single World Famous Coney Dog, and added Cole Slaw. Also ordered a cider. Soon enough I got the loaded up hot dog, and it was legit the best hot dog I have had in years. Sure, it was covered in like 50 things, but the flavor profile of the chili with raw onions, the shredded cheese, and slaw was fantastic. The casing was crispy, the dog chewy, and the flavors blended perfectly. When the rain started coming down in sheets, the bartender remarked how he loved seeing the native Portlanders walking through it like it was nothing. If looking for a solid dog in a delightfully dingy space, hard to beat this. Also there are pinball and prize machines in the back.

Wieners!!!! They're great :) I had the PDX "Chicago" dog, and it got my craving out of the way. Delishies, divey, and decent prices. Staff was friendly and I even got to meet Luna, who is the cutest lil Brindle Pittie baby.

Dive bar, decent food, strong drinks... can't go wrong. :) New York vibes and I think there's some history there. Pretty chill.

The food was good. Price was ok. Service was excellent. The only problem I had was they over charged me. I was not aware of it until I was looking at my bank account. So watch your account to make sure you don't get over charged.

We stopped in to Nick's to visit a friend who bartends here, not having ever visited before. I had no idea it *had* a bar, but then again, this *is* Portland. EVERYTHING has a bar. Not that I'm complaining! After a couple drinks on otherwise empty stomachs, food was definitely required to sponge up the alcohol we had just consumed, or there would likely be trouble. A Pepperoncini dog was ordered to step up to the plate, and wow, did it deliver! A Coney Island dog is already delicious enough, but throw some tangy peppers, buffalo sauce and some cream cheese to smooth things out, and you knock it out of the park! I'm going to have a helluva time ordering anything else upon a return visit, and we WILL be returning. There are some who might complain about racking up $50 on some hotdogs and drinks, but those are the kind of people too snobby to enjoy a good ol' frankfurter, and if you're one of those people, I don't want to know you. And if you're an East Coast purist with strong opinions on toppings, I *will* put ketchup on my hot dog just to spite you. Okay, maybe not. That's just gross. But seriously, the dogs here are top dog!

This place is a dump. Went in early on a Friday evening. There are no signs telling you to wait or pick a spot. Eventually I just decided to sit down, which took a while because every table I walked past was dirty and/or wet. There are no menus and no signs anywhere telling you what to do. Finally after about 5 minutes of just sitting at a table, the bartender told me to come up to the bar and order when I was ready. Ready for what? Do you serve food? There are no menus anywhere. Nothing on the wall, tv screens or tables. What a joke.

A friendly divey little bar in Hawthorne to stop for some drinks during an afternoon of shopping!

I was very excited to take my daughter-in-law and 3 granddaughters to have a Famous Coney. We drove from Washougal, Wa and when we arrived we were dismayed to see how dingy and unappetizing the place looked but decided to soldier on. To our surprise and dismay, the only food offered was a hamburger "The Big Nick" and they allowed no changes whatsoever. I think I could have gotten a hot dog but by then we were all so "done" with the place we decided to leave. The "kicker" was the bartender said they could pack 90 into the place so I guess that meant they didn't have to be customer service oriented ... WHICH THEY WERE NOT. DO NOT GO! PS: We went across the street and had delicious NY Pizza ... Yummy.

Came here last weekend &&& loved it so much :) the bartenders were so welcoming and so nice! definitely felt like they really cared about everyone that steps in! &&& oh my god the coney dogs were the best thing i've eaten. i would travel back to portland just for these damn hot dogs i loved it!!! also loved the ambiance of the place, perfect little dive bar to relax, play some games, cards and just hangout! thank you so much :)

Service here is amazing. It's a fun, charming, friendly local bar. It's staff is welcoming to all. I always feel welcomed. Krissy rocks it. Her attention to detail and welcoming spirit, makes this place a gem!

I came in and the bartender was talking to a very cute blonde young girl. And did not look up or say hi. For like 5 mn . I had to just be loud and tap on the bar and say" hey " Then he came over He was later very grumpy and cut me off for no reason . But hey . I appreciate if someone is looking out for you. But then I asked for an itemized receipt and he was annoyed and gave it to me but then grabbed my customer copy. I looked latter and saw he tipped himself , unbeknownst to me . Because. His unwelcoming behavior, i still have would have, but , thats shady . Btws the cook, very sweet . He changed the sound on Independence Day for me . I like place . Just not the current staff . Unless your a 21 blond good luck door you're 60

All these reviews about friendly service are really perplexing. They seem to be discriminatory in the type of person they offer that friendliness to.

It smells like Coney dogs and farts in here, probably on purpose. Would come again, but I'm gonna leave my pawpaw, who has asthma, glaucoma, and cancer, at home. Mostly cause he can't handle the stress of the wicked pinball action in the back.

I grew up in this neighborhood and don't remember this lil spot being there on Hawthorn, but again that was 35 years ago. I now live across town in a not so dog friendly area and decided to revisit my old stomping grounds as back in my day this neighborhood was the warmest and dog friendly neighborhood I knew and a not so well known gem. Over time it's gained it's notoriety as being hippy heaven and now it's gotten to be overly trendy and only two of the three staples I remember being there still survive the Fred Myer got a face lift, Rocco's pizza got a new name and we all know the BagDad will probably never die. I was lost as to where to go and we met a fellow dog owner that told us to go to Nicks, so we did and This is the best place ever!!!! Not only does this little gem celebrate the old ways of the Hawthorn district but stands as a true representation to keep the Old school ways alive. The hospitality is top notch, and as new dog Mom, training my pup Sassy to get acclimated to busy city life this place is why I came back to my old stomping grounds, as we as dog owners know finding a place to take shelter from the heat or cold, eat some food and have a beer is extremely difficult, they welcomed us with open arms. Food was amazingly delicious! Nick the owner has done an amazing job with creating a wonderful, relaxing environment that welcomes our other parts to our families, my Sassy was spoiled and so were we and we Thank you! We will definitely be back!

Going to this bar for 5 years and it's always great. Good beers, great hotdogs, and prices are on point. Hawthorne area tends to be a little uppity and I love the divey, chill style of Nick's. Roll in any time and grab a beer! Evenings get busy as this is a joint a lot of industry folks frequent. Company at the bar is always interesting and they have nice big booths if you're coming in with friends.

What exactly is this place "famous" for? I'm asking a serious question. I've done some internet research (Nick's even has a Wikipedia entry, and there is a nice Oregonian obit of Frank Nudo, owner for most of its existence) and no one explains the "famous" part. (We know with the Kenton Club it's because it was in a Raquel Welch movie. And, by the way, any truly famous place wouldn't have to include that word in its name, would it?) Whatever it's famous for, I don't think it's the cuisine or ambiance. And I mean that with all respect and affection! Nick's clearly is not trying to be fancy place or present haute cuisine. It is a shining example of that wonderful yet disappearing (in Portland and other rapidly corporatizing cities anyway) institution, the neighborhood bar that serves decent food at reasonable prices. Appearances can be deceiving! There are places that used to be neighborhood joints, and still look like them from the outside, but then you walk in and look at the menu and realize this is not going to be the cheap meal you expected. It's under new ownership who kept some of the old "charm" but revamped the menu and tripled the prices. Nick's inside is still what the outside promises. There are a couple picnic tables out front, but the regulars crowd in inside anyway, pandemic be damned. I'm not as thrilled about the food as some people on this site. (I'm a hotdog connoisseur and was disappointed with the namesake dish here.) But I appreciate everything else about this place, especially the friendly service, the regulars (including their dogs), the hours, the location -- and yes, even the name.

They had a dog inside the at the time of my visit and he licked my leg which I didn't know this place allowed pets. I try to avoid places with dogs inside. I don't like dogs licking me. I also came in with water because it was hot outside but I came inside with friends that wanted to order a drink. It was during a heatwave when we came in. They asked me to leave because they don't allow outside water. Out of respect I left while my friends finished up their drink order. They didn't like their service but the whiskey was the only thing on point thanks to the manufacturer. Be warned if your trying to duck away from the sun with water you are not invited here unless every person in your party orders something. It cannot be one person who orders in your party to be inside for a quick drink. We will do them a favor, we won't ever come back which I think the establishment will be grateful for.

Good beer, good people, decent food. I liked the chili dog and the chili was the star for me, however be sure you drink plenty of water afterward. I had some indigestion and heartburn sneak up on me the following morning. Pretty standard dive I'd say. Not so much "Cheers" and a little more "Moe's Tavern".

Was introduced to this spot from my friend and family member Mr. Dixon I am very appreciative for the service and food and quality time we had enjoying a meal of 2 coni dogs and fries I was very happy.

Came here for 2022 burger week. I was told they had the best burger from the selections and I was told correct! We lucked out and got the last burgers before they had to pause for an inventory check. The food was high quality, the patties were cooked to perfection with a delicious crust, the slaw was divine, and the buns were soft. The fries were great though I think hastily over salted, which was fine because they were cooked to perfection. They were understaffed but handled it like champs, I really applaud them for tackling burger week. I can't wait to try other items from their menu.

Local, divey, and with some good music. Good for me, good for us. Stopped in for a couple cocktails, the bartender was cool, had a couple drinks and we were on our way. Felt right and felt, I think local. Go Blazers and Ducks, wait can't go that far.

This place has 3.5 stars for a reason.. substandard food, overpriced drinks, very uncomfortable bar stools... It's cold and drafty inside. And don't get me started on the bartenders! they're too busy socializing with friends and regulars and pouring free drinks for these people than to actually make sure real customers are serviced. Oh and bring a bowl of popcorn on Tuesdays and Wednesdays so you can sit back and watch the pudgy bartender (Jerry) drink shot after shot of bourbon all night long until he is staggering and slurring his words. And here's the thing: the general manager doesn't care. He condones this illegal behavior.

Great food! Great service! Have been going here for over 30 years. Why the fuck do I have to keep writing?

I've lived in Portland for over 3 decades, and Nicks has always been a constant for me. Though they've had multiple folks running the place during that time, it remains comfortable and laid back. As for the food, I'm afraid I haven't tried anything but their namesake Coney. If it ain't broke..... My youngest child recently turned 30, and I remember the priest that baptized her when she was born saying that Nicks was one of his regular spots. It's that kind of neighborhood connection that I'm excited to still see in place. Although they don't know my name (the way they seem to for many others walking in the door), I always feel welcome.

Haven't been here in years. Still relaxing and friendly atmosphere Yes new owners but still a great place to grab a tasty burger and a cold beer. And my favorite part was Luna the sweet shop dog who hopped up in my booth and sat on the other side of me with the sweetest look welcoming me back after 40 years! I suggest you swing by to check out a ballgame and sample the food. There's nothing like a Coney Island and a cold brew!! Say 'Hello' to Luna and remember her dad says she's allowed to share one or two tater tot's that is, if your in the mood to share!!

Another interesting spot Jim G. and I checked out while walking around Portland during our visit. Stopped in for a couple drinks, so I can't say anything about the food. As it was early in the afternoon, the place wasn't busy, but that allowed for the bartender to give us a bit more attention. He wasn't intrusive at all, and had the right balance of chatting up his friends and both attending to our needs and chatting us up, too. This divey spot has good music, strong, well-priced drinks, and seemed to be a local sports bar. The photos along the wall suggest there's a lot of history in this place, too. Cool little spot to refuel before more walking!

$3.75 happy hour drafts is Johnny on the spot. We had 2 draft craft beers and the chicken tender basket and our total during HH was only $13. C'mon, that's good stuff! This place is your typical dive bar but for some reason I'm drawn to it more than many others. They played some good rock and punk. I don't think I heard any hip hop while here for either of our visits so far which is a change for PDX. We had the chicken tenders during HH and although they were not the largest came w/ some delicious fries and they themselves were cooked perfectly and were very tasty. The fries are the square cut ones that are a little on the thicker side. They were crisp on the outside and meaty on the inside, just how I like them. They were seasoned as well to add a little more flavor. I'm actually excited to try more of their food like one of their hot dogs (I love dogs!) They have a pinball machine in the back so you know you'll find me back there slinging paddles lol The left side of the establishment are booths making it one of those bars you can bring your kid to (up until a certain hr). I love that b/c sometimes you want to go to a bar w/ your kid to just have a drink and in most cities it's frowned upon, but not in PDX! I mean, as long as you're not getting three sheets wasted w/ your kid there and just trying to cool down on a hot summer day w/ a frothy craft brew, why not? Just sayin'. Portland is more open minded than most cities I've lived in and I'm loving it. Street parking only so yeah. They've got an industry night where it's happy hour from 6p to midnight (I think). They've got all the football games playing for you NFL-heads. They even have a b-movie night where they have tacos for like a buck! I just really dig this place and since moving to Hawthorne, when I feel like going to a dive bar this is now my go-to!

This place is better than I thought it'd be! To be honest, I was a little turned off by the exterior, but this place serves up pretty good food for a decent price. I ordered the bacon cheddar dog, which also came with sour cream. I liked that the bun was fresh and soft. The hot dog itself was mild in flavor, so the bacon helped to amplify the taste. I liked the addition of sour cream as well. I've never had sour cream on a hot dog, but I liked the creaminess alongside the sharpness of the cheddar cheese. I don't think this was a super memorable hot dog, but it was still tasty and filled me up. The fries here aren't the best, but I'm the type of person who needs fries when eating hand food! Service was slow. My boyfriend had to keep going up to the bar to get our servers attention. I think they were understaffed, which was unfortunate for a Saturday. I have a hard time finding a restaurant on Hawthorne that sounds appealing, so I think I'd come back here for a simple, decent meal if someone wanted to dine here. I'll definitely try the original Coney Island if I'm back, as it seems to be Nick's speciality!

What a great place! Real classic hotdogs and other great grub. Amazing baseball memorabilia stretching back the better part of a century adorns the walls. Friendliest owner you could ever meet, and his wonderful dog Luna. Check it out, you'll be glad!

Came from out of town with a coworker for business purposes and after a long day of meetings we both needed a couple beers to relax, while walking we came upon Nick's and we popped in, it was on a Saturday (3/19/22) and we sat at the bar and were served by a male bartender, no issues. Once a booth opened we moved, we both sat a bit with empty glasses so I got up and requested 2 more beers from a blonde female bartender, still no issue. There was another customer that was in Nick's with a dog that the female bartender took a liking to, she served the dog a dish of water, was petting it etc and my friend made the remark that the dog was getting better service then us which was pretty true. My friend and I decided to go to another establishment that was busier so we could socialize with people. I asked to close my tab and didn't leave a tip because I don't tip if there is no effort at all made. We exited the building and got about half a block away when we heard a female voice screaming "Hey that's twice this week you have stiffed me don't come back" We were shocked! She scurried back in as I replied that we've never even been in there, people were staring and it was really disgusting behavior on her part. I understand that people who work in the service industry work for tips but if you do nothing, not even a standard then you deserve just that. She had no right to try and shame us, when the shame should be on her for her lack of any effort. She has her wish though, we won't be back. Would have been a good experience had she not been a poor excuse for a bartender.

This post isn't about Lardo's, I swear! But bear with me... I LOVE Lardo's, I think their sandwiches are some of the best in Portland. I will seriously drive out of my way to get one when I have a craving. That's how much I love Lardo's. Now, in order for me to get to Nick's Famous Coney Island Dogs, I have to drive past Lardo's. I have no problem doing that! That should tell you how good the Coney Dogs are here. I mean, that's what they're famous for for Christ's sake! It's in the name! Honestly, I'm sure their burgers are just fine, and I gotta believe anything else on the menu is great, but if you're gonna go, get the damned Coney Dogs. You don't go to a famous steak house and order the chicken because you heard they're juicy... well maybe you do, if that's you, move the hell along, I'm done talking to you. If you're still reading, get the coney dog. And don't be a wuss and order the single, get at least a double. In fact, get the tub special!!! That's where they put you in a tub and you bathe in the coney sauce. It's that good, don't question it. You'll never need to go to some fancy-shmancy day spa, the coney sauce will relax you beyond belief. Get a side a Mac salad, and call it a day. And you know what? You can buy me a double coney dog as thanks for the advice. Oh yeah, one more thing: they have burgers, vegan option, beers, and some other crap... But trust me, once you have the coney dog, you won't really care about any of the other stuff, except maybe the beer.

Krissy is the best bartender on Hawthorne! So sweet and funny and kind. Also the food is yummy, this place is always clean and nice. Love coming here!

It's hard to put into words how weirdly and rudely I was treated at this bar. I dont recommend this bar to anyone. I believe they thought I was loitering and came over (carded me and my friend which I had no problem with) but then made me order right then only to tell me I needed to actually go to the bar to retrieve my order (which felt really odd and that we were being singled out). I mentioned to my friend still waiting at the bar to order that I was confused by being asked to order at my booth and that she no longer needed to order for me. The other bartender misinterpreted this exchange and thought I was talking shit. Anyways when I confusedly walked over to the other side of the bar to retrieve my order I was told they no longer wanted to serve me and that I needed to leave. all because i didn't order a drink right away when i was there? all because the other bartender thought I was talking shit? It was all quite odd and I was happy to leave at that point. I'm still baffled and have never been kicked out of a place. I dont want to say I was profiled but the whole experience made me uncomfortable and I really wish that this 'husband and wife' team could treat their patrons with at least some humanity because it was awful to be treated this way. They had the audacity to say i was 'snapping my fingers and waving my hands in the air' which i would love to see the footage of because i've never done such a thing. anyways this place is weird. be better. Dont treat anyone this way and definitely not POC.

Cool spot. Good music. Clean and well kept. Food was served in generous amounts. The veggie dog was amazing and tasteful. I don't know what they do to their buns or where they got them, but my friend and I agreed the bun was one of the best parts of the hot dog. It was reasonably priced. Due to their generous portions, I didn't get to try, but there were awesome dessert choices. Parking is in a residential area and be sure to pay attention to no parking areas. The atmosphere was chill on an early Saturday's night. Not busy at all. The bartender/our server was attentive and polite. Overall, I had a positive experience and would recommend this place to anyone who likes good food.

I have been going to Nick's for a long time. I love their food. They had a recent change of ownership and their menus were revamped. I tried their Bacon Cheddar Dog and it was to DIE for and I mean every bit if that. It was pure hotdog heaven. I'm so excited I can't wait to try the rest of their menus now. They changed their frankfurters to that of Olympic Provisions which I'm sure most of you know are beyond excellent. Also their challah bread comes from Grand Central bakery. It was spongy and tasty on the outside. YUMMMM is an understatement. Try one for yourself. You won't regret it. I think you'll be very pleased. As for me, I'm drooling for the next opportunity. I have to go back there and have more of their food. I hope you'll have some more too.

Nothing like a good, solid hot dog late on a Saturday night. After a night that included the Rose City Rollers and a quick beer at the Bagdad Café, a buddy and I ended up here. We were hungry and wanted some grub. I've passed Nick's on several occasions, heck when you're down on Hawthorne, how do you not? The place has been here for decades. History and sports items all over the walls. Old Nintendo games being played on Saturday night. A basketball game on the TV and some rock and roll over the speakers. It was a small crowd for that evening. As for the food? A Fiesta dog was had by me and nachos by my buddy. You get a nice sized dog with all the fixings and I was pretty well satisfied after that. Sour cream, jalapenos, salsa and shredded cheese all overloaded on top of a huge hot dog. It hit the spot. It went well with the PBR I ordered. Good service, nostalgic place. Thankfully I moved closer to the area. I can return quicker.

Girlfriends wiener had so much mustard on it , she literally found some on her skin hours later. Wings crispy not saucy. Super bowl deal promised 6 wings, I got 7. I give you a 2

As good as always. It's been a while since I'd been here, but it's still delicious. I absolutely love hot dogs and this is a great place to get a variety of toppings. Service has always been friendly and I've never had an issue with speed. Good drinks too. I can totally over indulge here.

Nick's Famous Coney Island has been a Portland homage to New York for the better part of 70+ years. Despite a few changes in ownership, the place has largely remained the same old school icon of SE Portland. It serves comfort food to the max; everything from burgers to loaded hot dog combinations. Combined with it's happy hour and vintage interior, it is a scene that most of our hipster friends can truly appreciate. Having lived extensively in both Portland and NYC, I can say with certainty Nick's Coney Island doesn't exactly emulate the NY vibe enough to make me feel like I'm home. There was a semi "clean up" a few years back when new ownership moved in, but the overall decor hasn't been adjusted too significantly. I've noticed many New York themed businesses outside of NY are banking on names like "Coney Island" or "Fifth Avenue" which is a pseudo watered down version of the real thing. The authenticity of the aura might be jeopardized, but as long as one can accept this, then suddenly the experience isn't so bleak. The food as amazing as it looks and sounds, has been unimpressive thus far. I've sampled their 1 pound monstrosity known as the Big Daddy Burger, which was just a pile of bland. My fries weren't seasoned well and the burger was unmemorable. This also applies to the Coney Island Burger, though I wasn't big on the "famous Coney sauce" which was overly tangy. Things didn't get better when I went for the Rip City Mac, which didn't fare much better, as it was overly runny and seriously lacking in flavor. Sadly, the one thing I looked forward to most of all were the hot dogs. Nathan's Famous HotDogs in Coney Island Brooklyn are the summer rage and the Nick's version was disappointing. My Bacon and Cheddar Dog was salty and just subpar as was the Seattle Dog, which sadly just wasn't all that. They do get some kudos for the eats. For example, they do serve a solid breakfast / brunch, all of which is reasonably priced, and pretty good. Their $3 "Budget Boy" breakfast combo is a killer deal with just hashbrowns, eggs, and toast. Throw in some sausage, their homemade gravy and now it's the "The Haystack." Also worth noting (and likely a consequence of being in Portland), they actually offer quite a few veggie / vegan items for the hot dogs and burgers. Quite genius. Service was spotty in the past but has been good each time I've been around. I love the fact they offer a Purple Hooter cocktail for $5 during their 3-6pm Happy Hour, a drink I've only found in Las Vegas. $2-3 pints and a decent variety of shot specials and cocktail concoctions, this place functions well as a HH and sports bar spot. Though the prices don't feel that cheap for Portland, it's still a spot folks can appreciate if they capitalize on what they do best. Also to note, there is a credit card minimum ($9).

Been here several times, with the most recent trip to try their special Portland Burger week. Came by at around 8pm of which it was fully packed. We decided to sit at the bar as there were two open seats available. The whole bar counter was filled with dirty trays. No worries, I figured the bartender was going to clean up the dirty trays in front of us. However he didn't, instead he cleaned up all the dirty trays on the counter except for ours. Not sure what the bartenders problem is but he's always given off the asshole kind of vibe every time I came here, or he was just racially discriminating us. There was no one in line to take orders and so he decides to pour himself a beer and drink it while there dirty trays in front of us. He then saw us and asked if everything was okay, and then we had to ask him if he could remove the dirty trays away from us. Quite ridiculous as I looked around the bar counter and everyone's eating space was cleaned up. As for the special Portland burger week burger, it was 2/5.
