"Nick’s German Kitchen opened in October, but with a recent review in the Post and Courier, it’s sure to get some new attention. Look for schnitzel, wursts, spatzel, and more. Status: Certified open." - Erin Perkins

Nick’s is a great spot if you have an itch for comfort food- and by that I mean schnitzel. Who doesn’t love a good schnitzel? Been twice and it consistently delivers. Nick’s is a small spot tucked back in Mount P. With a great atmosphere and pretty straight forward menu and reasonably priced, always delicious items. The starters are great and love a side of Spaetzle (pasta) but the star of the show for me is schnitzel - got the Jagerschnitzel (pork) and the Weinerschnitzel (veal). The Jeager is more of a savory mushroom cream sauce. Weiner snitzel is more plain, and seasoned with lemon zest. I personally think due to its plain-ness and being Veal, this is a bit over priced when the other pork snitzels have such great tasty gravy and toppings, and are about $10 less! But really, its a tasty spot and reasonably priced for a great dinner out in chuck. *note- not a full bar (no cocktails) but great beer and wine selection* good German beers!

Authentic German dishes cooked to perfection! We stopped in by chance for dinner, no reservation. They had a table available outside and it was nice. We had the Lumberjack Schnitzel, The Black Forest Schnitzel, and the sausage loaf special. Everything was delicious. The staff was friendly and attentive. I do recommend making reservations.

Google
First time coming here. All I can say is WOW! How have I missed this hidden gem?!. From start to finish everything was top notch & one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in the area. Our reservation was for outside, but we opted to sit at the bar.. Bojenna was fabulous & made our dining experience truly memorable. Thank you so much!

We were waiting for colder weather to try Nick's, and now that we have it, we went. Overall, the food, service and atmosphere were very good. Starting with the highlights, our server was extremely warm, attentive, and gracious. The restaurant is small and feels cozy on a winter night. The beer and wine we had were absolutely fantastic, and we felt very happy with our choices (a dark lager and a light, not too dry, not too sweet Riesling). Standouts for the food were the pork medallions with a portobello sauce, served with spaetzle and bacon green beans. Excellent dish! The apple strudel was also very good. Bread dumpling with mushroom sauce and side salad with creamy garlic dressing were both tasty. On the uneven side, the special lamb dish, we had to send back. We were surprised to see lamb on a German restaurant's menu. We didn't know they knew how to do lamb. Well, the short answer is, they don't. We replaced that dish with a schnitzel with ham and cheese that came covered in a bolognese type sauce. One of us thought the combination worked well, the other did not. However, we agreed it was flavorful and well-prepared. Our server was very apologetic about the lamb dish and very kind about the situation. We don't like sending things back and felt bad, but at the price point of Nick's, you really need to be eating something good. Fortunately, there are many very tasty things from which to choose!

I got the lumberjack schnitzel and it was delicious!! Our group of 4 was sitting outside and it unexpectedly started to rain. The staff was very nice and accommodating!

Update: 8.8.24 we went back a week later. It was just as delicious and Sabrina was a glorious server. I’m telling you goooooo!! Thank you Brad for your excellent service. Our first experience was fabulous. The food was so damn good and we cannot wait to go back! Make a reservation, the restaurant is small and beautiful. Truly fantastic food!!

Google
Lovely restaurant, great service, with delicious German food. The hagerschnitzel and spetsy was on point!

Yelp
5 STARS! Sylvie was our server, We sat at the bar. We were greeted and the menu was explained I cannot tell you how badly I've wanted to come here and hadn't had the chance I was so glad to make it over! Everything we had was outstanding start to finish. This included the dumpling special, We each got an entrée, the chicken Spatzel and the black Forrest schnitzel m... We shared a bottle of wine and it was half off wine night, which was even better not a lot of places you can get a great bottle of orin swift for half off... Finished off with the chocolate soufflé, which I was very impressed with. I will definitely be going back not only was the service and food great but the quality and atmosphere is impeccable.

John S.

Yelp
Excellent schnitzel, maybe even better that what my German grandmother prepared. We have been to Nick's a couple of time now, trying different versions and all are excellent. Weiner, Jaeger, Black Forest - they are all great. Nick always personally greets you, nice touch. Table service provided by Leander is outstanding. Portions are just right and a solid value for your money. Small place, so you need reservations if you want a table. You will not be disappointed.

Alan A.

Yelp
Great delicious meal and the best friendliest service one could ask for I had the jagerbraten

T M.

Yelp
What a great meal. After traveling to Germany many, many times over the last 20 plus years. I can attest that Nick's is the best German food I have found in SC. The service, atmosphere, and presentation was the preface to the outstanding meal. I had the jagerschnitzel and my daughter had the chicken spatzle. I have already began recommending this place to everyone I know in the Charleston. Truly a great dining experience!!!

Sylvia H.

Yelp
We tried Nick's German Kitchen on our recent trip to My Pleasant and were delighted with our experience. Their spätzle was fresh and deliciously prepared. Our server was very helpful, and she suggested great dishes from the menu to us. The restaurant's ambience is cozy and beautifully decorated. Best of all, they have a great selection of beer and wine. This is definitely one of our favorite places in Mt Pleasant.

David Q.

Yelp
I have lost count how many times we have been to nicks, but we always leave amazed. The food and service are amazing; everyone is so nice. We love to see the place full, which it usually is. The meals are wonderful and priced right. Keep supporting this amazing gem!

Jason M.

Yelp
I'll try to summon the proper superlatives for Nicks German Kitchen. It's fantastic. Atmosphere is great. It's close quarters but comfortable. The service is amazing. The wait staff is friendly & knowledgable. The food was outstanding. We had the brat appetizer, jagerschnitzel & lumberjack schnitzel as well as the Venetian crepes and several German beers. EVERYTHING was fantastic. Please do yourselves a favor and visit Nick when in Mount Pleasant. It's a real treat.

Rick H.

Yelp
The food at Nick's was excellent. Great place to eat, the friendliest staff and a cute little restaurant. You will not be disappointed. They took great care of me.

Sherri J.

Yelp
This was a home run! The food was absolutely delicious! We arrived for our 6 pm reservations and we were seated immediately. We ordered a few Hofbrau Dunkel German Beer (dark larger). It was very cold and served with a cold mug... it was perfect and not too heavy. We started with a few appetizers to include the pretzel(which was so soft and also perfect) and the potato pancakes. They were served with applesauce and a little salad. Delicious. And then the real deal .... The meal!! Omg probably one of the best meals I have had in a very long time! I had the Jagerschnitzel, which was a breaded pork cutlet served over homemade spaetzel and topped with a creamy mushroom sauce. So light and amazing! We finished with some delicious spaghetti ice cream. We will definitely be back!

Heather S.

Yelp
The best restaurant in the Charleston area. We had four different entrees and all were amazing. Authentic German flavors and dishes in the US. It's a small and intimate setting with amazing service. We will definitely be back!

Andrew K.

Yelp
The Germans might not be historically known for cuisine but maybe they should be. I got the Lumberjack Schnitzel. Do not let the initial site of the dish fool you. It is incredibly filling. I am not a huge guy but 6' and couldn't finish it. Daughter got spaetzle. Very tasty. Almost an Alfredo sauce. Do not miss the potato pancakes. Maybe the best thing we had. You could make dinner out of a couple orders. Comes with a real good Apple sauce (not too sweet).

Shannon E.

Yelp
My husband and I had a rare date night last night and chose Nick's German Kitchen as our dining spot because we haven't had German food since we moved to Charleston almost ten years ago. Everything about Nick's was outstanding. It is a beautiful, intimate space. The service was outstanding, the food was authentic and delicious, and the portions plentiful. We felt welcome from the moment we opened the door. Highly recommend for a special dining occasion! (Also highly recommend making a reservation.)

Ben T.

Yelp
Nice spot for some European flare. It's small and cozy inside and the food is pretty good service is good as well. It would be nice if they had some German beers on tap.

Anne O.

Yelp
This is really a lovely German restaurant, but a small menu and a bit pricey - and completely a la carte, which hikes up the bill. Having lived in Germany for many years, I can say the food definitely had that genuine flair. However, the potato pancakes were a bit underwhelming. My hope is they branch out in German offerings and do some Scwabian foods, like Maultausen.

Vanessa T.

Yelp
Food and service are really great! Pretty loud and cramped seating. Couldn't hear my companion over all the noise.

Luke H.

Yelp
Service was very slow for such a small restaurant. However, they were clearly extremely busy with every table filled. The ambiance was very nice albeit crowded. The German food and German beer was very good. We got 2 different beers that were in cool bottles, a Semmelknödel (bread dumpling) covered in mushroom sauce, a schnitzel with spätzle (also mushroom sauce), and the special: filet mignon stroganoff over spätzle. Every thing was very delicious, but overpriced for the quantity of food you get.

Brian C.

Yelp
The Hungry Detective returned to Nick's after its reboot from Mezzo...Best German food on the East Coast and I lived in Germany back in the day...so lucky to have this little gem right here in Charleston. The chef/owner runs the back of the house and his wife runs the front and it's a perfect combo. I had the bratwurst appetizer to start and it was fantastic over potatoes. The lamb shank was my main dish and it was over the top...cooked to perfection accompanied with mash potatoes and fresh green beans. Note: Place your order upon arrival for the Schokokuchen-Chocolate Souflee...It's better than sex!!! VERDICT: Nicks is guilty as sin for doing up German food with love and flare...it's the best!!!

Monroe K.

Yelp
Excellent German food and beer selection. Food was delicious and so tasty. Sabrina, our server was spot on, especially since she got us an inside table when it started raining. Nick and his wife came over and made sure we were satisfied with everything. The spetzla and saubraten were delicious, as was the potato pancake.

David B.

Yelp
Very good German food. The Jagerschnitzel was delightful; lightly breaded with a nice mushroom sauce. The spaetzle was not what I usually expect but fortunately, it was very good too. Get the Apfelstrudel, you're welcome! The service was friendly and prompt with just the right amount of timing. Sabrina was a delight! Great atmosphere, good for meeting friends.

JD 0.

Yelp
I spend a lot of time in Germany and look forward to the food. German food is hard to find around here and when we saw the sign for Nick's we had to go. The food was great, well worth multiple trips.

Jolie S.

Yelp
Very enjoyable meal-nice atmosphere, great service and food. All of us (teens included) enjoyed the various schnitzels ordered.

Tom B.

Yelp
Menu selections were great and our server, Leander, was very attentive to detail and a great spokesman for the restaurant. Food was excellent, atmosphere was what we would expect in a German restaurant, and we enjoyed our dialogue with Leander. Will go there again when we are in the area.

Via W.

Yelp
Great food and service, many good German beers to choose from and delicious food Closest thing to being in Germany you can get in SC!

Jo G.

Yelp
Nick's was wonderful! How could we have waited so long to go?? Food was great, service was excellent, ambiance was great - sat outside on a chilly evening, but the braziers and lap robes they provided were perfect. I'm ready to go again!!

Ken K.

Yelp
Great German food and service! I loved my Jaegerschnitzel and pretzels. My red wine was tasty. I look forward to my next visit.

Craig C.

Yelp
We visited Nicks for the first time this past week. Upon arrival we were greeted by very friendly and attentive staff. The restaurant offered a nice ambiance but was a bit on the loud side due to the close proximity of other patrons. As for the food, we ordered the Pilzknodel - (a Bread Dumpling) for a starter and Jaeger Schnitzel for the main course. The dumpling came out covered in a heavy mushroom sauce. I never had one before to compare it to, so it was just ok. Having been to Germany many times, I have had the opportunity to sample great Schnitzel at various restaurants. What I was served at Nicks, was two "very" thin slices of overcooked, pork tenderloin that did not appear to have any breadcrumbs coating; just floured, fried and covered in the heavy mushroom sauce. The side of Spaetzle was fine. As it was our first time to Nick's we didn't know what to expect but, we left quite disappointed with the meal.

Jenny B.

Yelp
Finally got out to Nick's German Kitchen and oh man, it was just as amazing as I hoped it would be!! We tried the weekend special appetizers of barvarian bratwurst with bacon fried potatoes and creamy sauerkraut; and the pilzknodel which is a bread dumpling in a creamy mushroom sauce. Hubs had weekend special entree of schweinebraten which is pork roast, a bread dumpling, beer gravy and apple red cabbage. I ordered off the regular menu and got Jagerschnitzel which is a breaded pork cutlet with homemade spaetzle and creamy mushroom sauce. I've had Oma's cooking and been to Germany - the spaetzle is honestly some of the best I've ever had! It's definitely pricey but it's absolutely worth it. We sat outside and they provided warm comfy blankets which was so nice. We were too full to eat strudel so we got a slice of Black Forest cake to go - it looks just as amazing as everything else tasted!

Christine L.

Yelp
This nice, little restaurant is hidden in the shopping center, but if great for a date night! There's a lot of different kinds of schnitzels available. The staff is very attentive and helpful as well.

Jon D.

Yelp
Food is great but service is abysmal. Had a reservation (confirmed) and they couldn't find it. Then they "found it" and seated us. Then 5 minutes later asked us to get up because the table they gave us "belonged" to someone else. Unbelievable! Then they asked us to wait another 20 minutes at the bar so we could be seated. Do not bother with this place!!! Never again! I should note that we chose to leave Nick's and go to Burton's Grill where we had a great meal! Won't be back there again until they can get their reservations fixed.

Jorge M.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the service was great as well. We got the Bretzel, jäegersnitzel and a handful of other items. All we're wonderful. We'll definitely be back.

Jack S.

Yelp
In my experience, I've generally found German restaurants to be expensive and about as authentic as an EPCOT CENTER (or Charleston) BIERGARTEN. So I checked out NICK'S YELP reviews and immediately found a head-scratcher. In the listing's ABOUT THE BUSINESS section; the owners chose to reference an entirely different restaurant named MEZZZO, which clearly wasn't German. Why? Nevertheless, my wife and I decided to give it a shot, having heard good things from friends and neighbors, though these were the same people that recommended such disappointments as Leon's, the Ordinary and R-Kitchen to us in the past. We were seated at one of the outdoor tables, which came with blankets - a nice touch. Menu was pretty eclectic (no Shrimp n Grits thank goodness) with a nice choice of regional dishes. Our entrees were well-portioned, prepared to my liking and flavorful. We both agreed that the accompanying cabbage was particularly good. Service was friendly and professional, though it was somewhat awkward having the TIRAMISU pushed on us so much for some odd reason. All things considered, we would definitely recommend this spot to friends, but as mentioned earlier, German food is rarely easy on the wallet, and NICKS' GERMAN was no exception to the rule. By the way, I did get indigestion that night, though I'm not sure if it was from the food or the 9% sales tax, 2% Mount Pleasant Hospitality tax and 4% Credit Card processing fee.

Donna W.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in all of Charleston! I am an Army brat and lived in Germany for 2 of my dads tours. I love having authentic German food with friendly service so close.

Brittany H.

Yelp
Came here for our anniversary, excellent, just excellent. Service was excellent, the food was amazing. You can tell the ownership/management down to the server care about your experience and food quality. You don't need to be a lover of German food (it's my husbands favorite) to just love the good quality food here.

Brian B.

Yelp
Small lil spot that puts out some baller german food. Owner/chef is very friendly and usually out in the dining room and about making his rounds. Had a table of 6 and noone left unhappy. Everyones dish was on point. The struddle dessert, it's a meal within itself, so warm and comforting too, made me want to take a nap afterwards. Decent beer selection of unique german beers, and i loved the fact that you actually get the correct mug/glass that it's made for. You will not leave this place hungry thats for sure. Well worth the money.

Richard U.

Yelp
Small restaurant but excellent, authentic German food (my wife lived in Germany and knows the real thing). Fantastic friendly service. We were likely the only tourists in the restaurant. Appeared to be a locals' favorite. Nick is a great host. Highly recommend.

Jay R.

Yelp
Our first visit here. There is a paucity of German restaurants in our area so this a welcome relatively recent addition. Easy access and parking in the shopping area off Hungryneck and the IOP connector. It was a summer evening but the breeze was nice enough to sit outside. A nice varied selection of German beers was a bit pricey..but these are not otherwise widely available. Plus, knowing that small restaurants like this one depend on liquor to help their bottom line makes it worth the premium. The single bratwurst over creamy sauerkraut and roasted potatoes was billed as an appetizer but easily could have been a small meal on its own. Very flavorful! We split the main course beef stroganoff over spoetzle which, after the appetizer, was plenty for us. The meat was tender and the creamy sauce was one of the best stroganoffs I can remember, so the $32 price made it a good value even after the 2 dollar fee for spliting the plate. Our dining partners (who have travelled to Germany frequently) each had different schnitzel which they pronounced quite good as well. If you want to venture into a something other than the usual low country fare or have not had a chance to try German before this is a good place to start!

Frank G.

Yelp
Wow, what a nice high end place in an out of the way place. A mix of German, Italian, and American food. Very classy, nice people, good prices. SCHNITZEL, is great, CAVATELLI, is superb. Strudel to die for. What else can I say. A must try on your list Frank G

Susan F.

Yelp
Food is excellent! Dining area is a little crowded. I'll go back next time I'm in Charleston.

Michael S.

Yelp
After traveling around town we saw this little restaurant. We had heard about this restaurant and decided to try it. We were very impressed with the food and service. We will definitely come to.

K O.

Yelp
Made a reservation for 2 for this past Friday night...545pm. Glad we did since it was full by 6pm. Cool little place. Black forest schnitzel and the wurst trilogy plate were ordered. Fantastic on both entrees. Will return!

David F.

Yelp
I travel to Charleston for work the last 8 yrs. While there I eat out regularly at fine dining and not so fine dining. This place is awesome and provides exceptional German food that was perfectly prepared with great flavors and care. The inside is white, clean, and fairly modern but small. I was there while it was packed and it was still pleasant and the service was amazing. Reservations are recommended to ensure a table. You can go wearing jeans/Shorts button up shirt and feel normal eating there. Food was 9/10 and the experience was superb. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!

J D.

Yelp
Seriously? Just go! What a wonderful place! The service, food, atmosphere, all is wonderful. We will be back soon. This is now a once a month date night.

John G.

Yelp
OMG the BEST ... the ONLY German place here. Service ambiance and the entire menu were superb.

Amanda D.

Yelp
Amazing food. Friendly staff. Nick was there as the chef when we ate. My dad was able to converse with him in German, which absolutely made his birthday. A German restaurant owned and run by a German was exactly what he was hoping for! Make sure you make a reservation before going, this place is small, and busy - because it's good! They were able to accommodate our party of 6 people via reservation, and even sat us early.

Meghan T.

Yelp
Nick's German Kitchen is AMAZING! The food is SO good and is now our family's favorite restaurant in the area. I had the Lumberjack and is was spectacular. This restaurant far exceeded our expectations and now goes to the top of the list to our #1 choice when we vacation in the area. Absolutely everything in the menu is delicious but make sure you leave room for apple strudel...yum!

Stephanie A.

Yelp
The best I have had ever. We went there because we missed the German place we use to go to in Tulsa, this was better and had more selections. Worth every dollar.

James T.

Yelp
Good food. Traditional pork dish with german dumpling with pink cabbage. Hearty. Heated up easily the next day as portions were large. Owner welcoming and friendly. Good beer. Pleasant service. Busy. Small staff but attentive. Ambiance is pretty minimal

Stephan C.

Yelp
A table for three, seated right away. A great waiter came to our table with a chalk board of specials. I had to try their Mushroom Schnitzel. It was delicious! The homemade spaetzle was the best I've had. A very generous portion. Others at the table loved the Chicken Spaetzle and Mezzo Salad. Finished with a nice, Tiramisu. I'll be back. We all had a terrific time.

Diana D.

Yelp
Had dinner at the bar. Our server was attentive, informative and helpful. The owner said hello as well and made us feel welcome. We tried a bunch of stuff because it was our first time. The food was delicious, very rich and authentically German. The dishes are hearty. This is not a dainty meal place. I love that they kept true to the recipes, which are very different than what you may get in an American restaurant and did not try to change it for the sake of familiarity. We walked away full and happy and talked about our experience for a while after. If you want to truly try something truly different and feel like you're eating in Germany for a meal go to Nick's German Kitchen.

Axel B.

Yelp
Born and raised in Munich, it's hard to get me to eat German in the States. We discovered Nick's a year ago when we first moved from NJ. In my 35 years, it's the only German restaurant that I have gone back to, not once but as often as I can. Nick is amazing, his staff is professional and the food is incredible. When we walk in the door it's like going home, smiles greetings and they know my name!!! If you want great food.....Nicks is the place.
