In my experience, I've generally found German restaurants to be expensive and about as authentic as an EPCOT CENTER (or Charleston) BIERGARTEN.
So I checked out NICK'S YELP reviews and immediately found a head-scratcher. In the listing's ABOUT THE BUSINESS section; the owners chose to reference an entirely different restaurant named MEZZZO, which clearly wasn't German. Why?
Nevertheless, my wife and I decided to give it a shot, having heard good things from friends and neighbors, though these were the same people that recommended such disappointments as Leon's, the Ordinary and R-Kitchen to us in the past.
We were seated at one of the outdoor tables, which came with blankets - a nice touch.
Menu was pretty eclectic (no Shrimp n Grits thank goodness) with a nice choice of regional dishes. Our entrees were well-portioned, prepared to my liking and flavorful. We both agreed that the accompanying cabbage was particularly good.
Service was friendly and professional, though it was somewhat awkward having the TIRAMISU pushed on us so much for some odd reason.
All things considered, we would definitely recommend this spot to friends, but as mentioned earlier, German food is rarely easy on the wallet, and NICKS' GERMAN was no exception to the rule.
By the way, I did get indigestion that night, though I'm not sure if it was from the food or the 9% sales tax, 2% Mount Pleasant Hospitality tax and 4% Credit Card processing fee.
