Houston’s Best Sports Bars | Eater Houston

"“All sports, all the time” is the moniker at this long-running sports bar. Since opening its doors in 1993, hardcore sports fans keep coming to refill their pints while taking in the latest games. The bar guarantees over 40 television screens, daily specials, and free WiFi to check fantasy scores without worry, making this one of the best hangouts for sports fans in town. Homemade Italian cooking is on offer, as are crave-able bar mashups like its pizzadillas — a cheesy pizza and quesadilla hybrid." - Brittany Britto Garley

Google
Ordered a Cheddar Bacon Burger and it smelled good in bag but lettuce was brown towards rotten spots and burger meat didn't smell edible up close. looked good afar though. Fries were meagerly ok. I will not be back. Service took awhile to get and atmosphere was friendly but not worth eventually getting food poisoning.

Google
Can't speak to the service or atmosphere, but I ordered the italian salad to go for lunch today and the grilled chicken was raw in the middle. The salad was also already heavily dressed (and came with extra dressing) so it was definitely a little soggy too. Heads up to check your order before leaving!

Google
Local watering hole with a host of friendly faces. Great weekly drink specials and new food items added. The new bacon wrapped jalapeno appetizer is delicious. I'm also not getting paid for this review. Great for sports, after work happy-hour, or to just get a quick bite to eat

Google
They advertise breakfast all day, but their breakfast burgers are absolutely amazing! Bacon, hashbrowns, grilled onions, egg and cheese on a burger. The fried jalapeños on the side are legit too! Wife got the slider platter and loved it, too! Great afternoon lunch with cold beers and the Astros on TV

Nicholas Paul

Google
When I went there they played rock music and I liked it. I think they had a jukebox to play other songs but I’m not sure. The bartenders are real asf and good people. There peoples people yknow. My name is actually Nick so the bartender (didn’t get his name) took great care of me ! We ordered two bottles of moscato and a pizza and had a good time thanks to the bartender’s.

Angel Salcido

Google
My gf is super spice sensitive so when we ordered the salsa and chips and it was too spicy for her they were cool and let us switch it for the queso. Great service, they will serve your beers in a Stella glass if you ask them which is super cool to me. All the food was great, they have a pool table and a full bar and it’s a great vibe. Pet friendly !!! They’ll let you sit on the outside patio area and order and hang with your dogos!

As the very first place visited on trip to Houston, this place set the tone for excellent food and superb drinks. Hannah was awesome.

Google
Nick’s place is a hidden gem. I am so glad I convinced a friend to give it a try with me. Their pizza and calzone were cooked awesome and was very freshly made. The calzone was packed with meats and came with marinara that has a thinner consistency but great flavor with a slight spice. The pizza is cooked awesome with that crisp on the crust but is still soft everywhere else. I heard about Nick’s on ESPN 97.5 for years and finally made the trip. Glad I did! I will be back! Also the staff was incredibly friendly. Neaimo spent the time to introduce himself and remembered my name too. Also there were plenty of tvs to watch sports!

Yelp
What a pleasant surprise. As others have mentioned, inside/outside this is a dive bar, BUT with good food, great service and caters to its clients. My wife and I wanted to see University of Iowa WBB and the Houston watch party was at Nick's. I called to confirm what I read on the school's web site of a watch party and then Nick's, where they reserved a table for us. We enjoyed the game and the meat pizza we ordered. The frozen margarita had more alcohol than the on the rocks margarita. We also had chips and salsa. The service was outstanding. Bottom line, don't judge a book by its cover and go to Nicks to watch a game and have good food and drinks.

Yelp
I love love Nick's Place! My Fiancé and I have been going here for the past 5 years and it's truly the best sports bar in Houston. Any game you want they have it and will put it on when you ask. The drinks and food are reasonably priced and everything I have had on the menu for food has never disappointed. I highly recommend the rigatoni and pizzas! The staff is beyond nice and always so attentive. The general manager is the nicest guy and a reason we love coming here. You can't go wrong coming to Nick's Place! I highly recommend!

Marc K.

Yelp
Been going there for a decade and a half, and the owners (Nick & Cindy) say hello to all the other regulars, but completely ignore me! Their food that was average to begin with has really gone downhill in recent years, and the restrooms have always had an offensive stench! Was once a fun place to watch a game, but not anymore, and their clientele has also changed, and NOT for the better! It's gone "REALLY DARK" if you know what I mean! Nick gave me a dirty look last time I was there, and that's the closest this terrible man has ever come to saying hello! I'm Done! I would not recommend this place to anyone!!!

Yelp
Came here for a lil reunion. It's my friend's cousin's bar. You can park in their lot or on the street out front. The parking lot was packed when i went, but this was a Sunday and the football games were on. There are alot of tv screens so you can watch at any angle wherever you sit. Or server was very helpful and friendly. I ordered the Philly cheese steak, it was juicy and flavorful. My friend ordered the calzone and he looked like he barely touched the thing because it's huge. Atmosphere was great for watching sports. Price was fair. We also ordered the spicy pickles which were fantastic. The breading was full and crunchy and didn't fall apart. Would definitely recommend this place!

Yelp
Great place to eat!! Props to Hannah, Scotty and the cook!! Great atmosphere and experience for the family!

Yelp
We loved Nick's!! Their food & beverages were beyond our expectations. We had pasta & a pizza, both were very good & came out very quick. I would definitely come to Nick's Place again & recommend to my friends.

Yelp
Typically this smokey hole in the wall sports bar Italian joint is a fun place yo hang out and eat some cannoli with friends. Occasionally I take my 13 year old daughter with me to catch a Longhorn game and lunch. This place should get 5 stars consistently. However, this evening some pizza tosser ruined our trip. With voice level 10 he kept dropping f bombs. F this. F that. I'm gonna smash this f in pan in your face if you don't f in back up. He yelled at a dish washer. This local favorite usually would not need a write up. Most times I could just tell Nick in person. I wrote this so that maybe Nick would read it and know who I am talking about it and take care of it. In spite of the d bag pizza tosser, Nick's is still a fun dive for hanging out. Oh, one of the chairs was a bit wobbly too.

Yelp
This used to be my go-to watering hole before I moved. I visited last night for the first time in a couple years. I consider it a "dive bar" with no disrespect (I happen to like dive bars). It is a very unassuming place with a large inside and nice outdoor dog friendly patio (at least it used to be, so check before going). The best thing about Nick's is the food! In the years I've been away, it is still consistent and delicious! The pizzas are phenomenal. I don't know what they do to that crust, but oh my! It is so good! Their menu is quite extensive, so you won't run out of things to try. Parking is very convenient. You can literally park steps away. Nick's has an onsite ATM. Security was present last night when I arrived. That's always a plus. A lot of people have come through those Nick's doors. I have made some good friends from my ventures over the years. Enjoy!

Yelp
We oddly ended up here for lunch on a workday (didn't realize it was more bar than restaurant) but stayed to eat because of the patio area. Service was really friendly and fast. They have a surprisingly large food selection, tons of Italian-leaning options. I went for their Chicken Parm Sandwich - a solid option, all the flavors were there to make it a nice lunch meal.
google avatar

Doug V.

Yelp
Got the everything pizza to to and it was amazing. I just wish I could have eaten more. The everything (don't remember was it was called) cost $30 because it had so many things pilled on it. It was almost too much stuff and I thought I would never say that about a pizza. It was worth getting though and would definitely get it again. It is sort of a dive place, but great pizza

Yelp
Finally!!!! A hole in the wall with good drinks and good food!!! We've been searching all over this side of town trying to find the perfect place, and I think we found it. It's a HOLE IN THE WALL.... Nothing fancy at all!(however, I did like those green suede bar stools lol) But, service was great and food & drinks were really good! Staff were friendly and Demi went out of her way to make sure we were taken care of. Thank you! We will return!
google avatar

Matt A.

Yelp
Cheese and more cheese. No sauce. Pasta over done. Chicken totally absent in chicken dishes. Meatballs were tuff. Sausages were greasy and oily. Absolutely filthy floor. Everything wobbles and is dirty.
google avatar

Amber D.

Yelp
I recommend the food here, and drinks. We always love coming to watch during Sunday football. They have so many TV's to watch on. Not sure if they are short staff but waitress ignored us quite a few times so do keep in mind service can be slow. Order buckets so that you aren't waiting to long to get your next.

Yelp
It kills me to not leave a 5 star review. The staff here is amazing. The pizza is amazing. But you cannot be a dive/sports bar with wings of this caliber. Worst wings I've ever had (because I don't even count Brewingz as wings). The crazy part is this. The cold barley salad is insane, I *dream* about this salad, and this is the 3rd best place for pizza in the entire Houston metro. I've tried over 100 pizzas in Houston so being top 3 is something to be proud of. The bartenders are amazing, this place feels homey, and it's a very welcoming environment, but the owner and/or chef needs to either get proper (non freezer burnt chicken) off the menu, or find some decent chicken. I'll return but will indubitably not order the chicken wings until they tell me the problem has been fixed. The bartenders are all awesome tho! :)
google avatar

Emmanuel J.

Yelp
lol just saw the comment from that waiter, Neil who keeps talking. What an a...hole!!!! Been going there for 8 years and never had single problem either with staff or customers so......
google avatar

Kacy M.

Yelp
Friends and I ordered a pizza and stuff mushrooms to go here and after we got a notification that it was done and ready for pick up, when we got there we had to wait an additional 15-20 min...not cool. I've been here once before to drink at the bar and had a good experience. The food was great - pizza had a lot of meat and the mushrooms were stuffed to the brim and smothered in melted cheese and sauce. Nicks can get crazy busy on game days and weekends so it's better to stay for a while if you're dining/drinking in and not expect to be in any hurry, or order ahead of time for to go.

Yelp
Great place to watch your favorite sport! We came here to watch the World Cup matches a few times. Here watching the finals right now. The brunch specials are really nice! The Cafe Italiano is the perfect wake-up drink. The Breakfast Italiano is hearty but not too heavy and tastes delicious. The staff is friendly and attentive. $2 mimosas!! Great spot.
google avatar

Bernadine L.

Yelp
I came here to watch a UFC fight...and wasn't aware of the cover charge to get in... However this place is very low key and had a good atmosphere.. the price of the food and drinks are good and staff was friendly I will come back with my cover charge in hand .
google avatar

Nick D.

Yelp
Great neighborhood sports bar to catch a game whenever i have time i am always up for a drink and some grub at nicks place.
google avatar

Mitchy M.

Yelp
Definitely a classic dive bar. It's the type of place you bring your date or watch soccer with your mates. I've been know. to drop by late night to enjoy some pasta or pizza. There are plenty of tvs to see your favorite games. The patio is definitely a plus, if you're some fresh air. Staff: Staff is friendly & will make you feel like you're a regular. Parking: There is a parking lot and some street parking.
google avatar

Stephanie Q.

Yelp
This place was great I had awesome steak Mac and cheese beers and good chill outdoor patio. The service is real they didn't seem fake. I appreciate that

Yelp
Great local place. Kitchen looks good but I didn't eat. Cool vibe and great staff. Indoor outdoor seating.
google avatar

Yelp
The definition of a typical Houston dive sports bar. Reasonable prices, decent eats, TVs for sports, and a cast of regulars. They played the St Johns game for my friend which was not easy to do so props to them for the that. I met with a friend here for brunch and we had a solid experience. Service was attentive since our drinks were always full. The breakfast tacos I ordered weren't the best but they were filling. I thought about ordering the pizza but perhaps that'll be for next time. Kinda weird how dark the setting is with the lighting. Works well if you're meeting an ugly date or conducting an shady meeting//arrangement deal. Plus from the outside it doesn't look like much of a sports bar. But you don't judge a book by its cover right?

Wesley O.

Yelp
Walked in to pick up an online order and staff just looked at me and kept to themselves. Had to ask a random employee I had a pick up order and he pointed me to the lady at the bar who I had walked past to get to him. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
google avatar

Diona W.

Yelp
My good friend told they have some of the best pizza in Houston so I has to check it out with her and they did not disappoint. I ordered a meatball sub and the phillysteak pizza to go. When the sub came out I could not believe how big it was. I will for sure be back soon.

Yelp
We became new regulars at Nick's Place because the service is outstanding and the food is also outstanding. A good down-to-earth place with a cozy atmosphere and they are very reasonably priced. Sincerely, Howard Venuto

Yelp
I have visited this neighborhood bar/restaurant 3 times in the past couple of months and realized I hadn't written a review. On all 3 visits, I ate dinner here and had the spaghetti with meat sauce ($9), lasagna ($13) and a custom made 3 topping pizza. All 3 were very good in taste and the pasta dishes came with either a salad or soup. I chose the salad both times. Both pasta dishes were large in size and represented good value for their price. The pizzas while good in taste are more expensive than I would have thought. My lasagna meal was not fully hot in the center which seems to happen to me a lot. Also when ordering pizzas their onions are purple onions. If you want white you have to ask for them. My first visit had table service provided by a bartender and the service suffered. My last two visits had table service provided by a waitress and was much better and very attentive. This place has above average food in my opinion centered around Italian but also offers burgers, steaks, etc. It has a nice outdoor patio area with plenty of TV's inside and out. I graded it at a 3.5 but will round up for Yelp purposes.

Tori R.

Yelp
Unexpectedly had a great time. Really good drinks and service. Definitely worth giving a shot!
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! Some of the best food around and great friendly people serving the tables. Portions are huge. Come hungry. Our University of Iowa club meets here to watch football and enjoy great food. Always a great time.
google avatar

Jibran K.

Yelp
This is our go to place after work for HH. Great pizza! absolutely Fantastic! You wouldn't think a bar would serve good pizza. Love their Philly cheese steak pizza / veggie pizza! Cant go wrong here. Service is great! Their outside patio looks nice. Enough tables and chairs to hang out with a group.
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
They responded right away told us what happened and absolutely appreciate that im very pleased now

Yelp
The food is absolutely amazing, atmosphere is so warm & welcoming, and the service is always wonderful!! One of the servers Kayla is an absolute gem! Nick's is so lucky to have her, she cares about her guests & their experience!!! We are forever customers thanks to sweet Kayla (& of course the food & beer!)

Yelp
Sip the coffee, as it might be stronger than you're used to! I tried Nick's and had breakfast for my introductory visit. I look forward to at least 4 more visits JUST for menu items that I now have to check out. So the Breakfast Calzone - bravo Nick's! The dough and the oven are fully legit New Jersey / NYC pizzaiolo grade. Full of tenderly scrambled eggs, melted cheddar and meat of your choice. PIZZA OVEN treatment FTW! Houston, we have leopard spottings. 8-) Cheddar is medium sharp and a wicked good choice here flavor-wise. It set up a little before I got to the end, because it's real cheese, but being made to order I'm sure American or provolone could be had. My weird request to add some cooked French Fries (inside) was not only enthusiastically filled but at the regular ".95 additional ingredients" price, not the side-of-fries price which I'd have happily paid. Brunch accomplished, but no room remained to try anything more. Gonna come back for a cheese steak, and again for a pizza... the quality of that Calzone compels me.... Did I mention the Cardiac Arrest Coffee? They carafe-hold it, so it's smooth tasting, not like your uncle's sports bar coffee. It's strong and it wants to put 329 miles on your car at 90MPH. So, so sorry I took this long to mosey on in.
google avatar

Dwayne W.

Yelp
This bar is amazing with so many respectful staff who work there. I have been going to nicks off and on with a buddy of mine for about a year and a half now and not once have we had any problems. The food is amazing and is out really quickly the only thing I think that can use a bit of work on is the bathrooms . To me it's out of date and dry they should definitely remodel the bathroom but other then that 8.5 out of 10
google avatar

Jennifer K.

Yelp
I was in Houston for work staying at the Hilton. Came across this place on Yelp and decided to give it a shot. Came in staff and patrons were very welcoming. Eli the bartender took VERY good care of me. He was engaged and happy to be at work and a joy to be around. Drinks were good, cold, served on point and stiff! Will definitely come back!
google avatar

Vlad V.

Yelp
After getting a haircut, I was on the prowl for a sports bar to eat dinner and watch some March Madness. My trusty Yelp app led me to check out Nick's Place. While they do have some parking spots, they were all full on a Thursday evening so I found parking on the street. Nick's Place is a dive but they had a lot of TVs and they were playing the sound for the games so two thumbs up! The menu mostly consists of bar food and Italian food. I opted for the Philly cheesesteak with fries. The hoagie is actually flown in from Philly so that's pretty cool! Authenticity! The cheesesteak were great and so were the fries but they don't give you too many fries. A little larger on the side portion and that would have pushed things up a bit. Service was friendly, my waitress did a great job. Nick's Place also has a covered patio!
google avatar

Eduardo B.

Yelp
Amazing! Authentic tasting Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches. Fast delivery too! Will definitely come back for more.

Willie H.

Yelp
Not only did I find one of the best Philly cheesesteaks in Houston at this spot but also great people! I will most definitely come back! It's a hidden gem! I did want to take a pic of the menu and updated stuff but I went at 1am which was also great because I can get it late night, so therefore I didn't want to be asking for all types of stuff and I know I was coming for the Philly but maybe next time I'll get a pic of the updated menu and upload it.
google avatar

Stephanie Q.

Yelp
I had a beer w the steak Mac n cheese. This was so good I loved it. I ate I. The patio and it rained it was all in all the best munch I've had in over a month.

Sharon P.

Yelp
I got the chili cheese burger with onion rings! At least that's what I ordered? The onion rings are burnt! Cheeseburger was tasteless.. Chili on the burger.. yuck!
google avatar

Jennifer G.

Yelp
Drinks are yummy and strong, food was pretty good too. The best part about this place is the staff. Stu and Eli made us feel welcome and we had a great first experience. Realized quickly why they have so many regulars!
google avatar

Drew K.

Yelp
Total dive sports bar in Houston ... probably a good spot to pick up some cougs.... Food was decent even though the server never felt the need to write down the order (she got one thing devastatingly incorrect by including jalapeños in my buddies order when he said very explicitly NO JALAPEÑOS! I think they put extra in there!!!) My calzone was actually great. Fresh and yummy contents and not too big. Prices were accurate. They put on my hockey game for me which is no picnic to find in Houston. Friendly service and nice people all around. Mouthwash in the bathroom / a sign of a classy joint! Would not return simply due to overwhelming options in the area...but they seem to have a niche.
google avatar

Edelyn C.

Yelp
It is a very low key sports bar off Westheimer. Doesn't seem very busy but it looks like it can with just the regulars. Prices are decent and I would definitely go back again. It's a quaint sports bar so if you're looking for something fancy, it might not be the best choice. However, if you're looking for good service, decent food, decent prices on drinks then you've found your spot!

C L.

Yelp
After reading you should try our Italian food.... I thought yum the cannoli must be great ... WRONG Fried in old disgusting grease that's exactly what they taste like old grease!!!!! Nasty!!!!!
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
Great little home town joint! I never would have found this place but my local buddy who lives in Houston suggested it and it was close by the hotel i was staying in. He said "hole the wall" and you would have to for sure know about this place to find it. We had lunch here so overall I really liked it. We had a couple of nice Bloody Mary's to start and I enjoyed a nice bowl of homemade soup. Since I was eating healthy I had a nice salad which was fresh and had good ingredients and dressing. I saw the nice items on the menu that looked great at a very good price. I will look foward to going again soon when I travel back to Houston.
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
This place is one of my favorite bars in Houston, the ambiance and drinks are amazing.but what truly makes this place one of a kind is the service. There's a bartender here Stu, who truly is a gem, he's so friendly, personable and just makes the time spent here an absolute pleasure.
google avatar

Yelp
Nick's Place has been living on my bookmark for the longest time. For whatever reason, I just never found a reason to pay this place a visit. However, since someone had mentioned that Nick's Place serves a pretty decent Philly Cheesesteak (better than Pappa Geno's according to her), I just had to check this place out. I came on a Sunday afternoon and the place was pretty much empty except for a few customers enjoying their smoke and beer out in the patio. A couple of guys were sitting inside watching the Champion League game on one of the many TVs inside. I took my seat and was immediately greeted by the server. After taking a quick peek at the menu, I decided to order the fried pickles to start with (of course) and the Philly Cheesesteak because that's why I came here for, right? On top of whatever comes with the cheesesteak, I also asked to add some cheesewiz ($0.95) and some mushrooms ($0.75). And instead of fries, I asked for onion rings ($1.49). The fried pickles came out first. And although they didn't taste half bad, I thought they didn't give you a lot of it for the price. One of my favorite places to get fried pickles (Mytiburger) charges about 40% less and give you a lot more pickles. My cheesesteak finally came out and it was really good sized. And that girl wasn't lying, it tasted pretty darn good too. But would I say that it was better than Pappa Geno's? Probably not. But it would definitely make a good substitution for a cheesesteak when I don't feel like driving all the way to Pappa Geno's since Nick's Place is much more conveniently located for me. Throughout my whole dining experience, someone was always checking up on me. It was either the server or another guy who would refill my water, bring me the check, etc. Maybe it was because the place was dead and they were just bored? Either way, during this particular experience, I was taken care of. Considering that they have wall to wall TVs and also more TVs in the bar area, I would think that this place would be a great place to catch your favorite sporting event. However, I do think that this place would get packed also so I'll make it a point to come back when it' a full house and I'll see if the level of service stays the same, or if it's going to go down to the level of Texadelphia (it wasn't great). I'll also come back here to try their pizza since everyone is raving about it!!
google avatar

Ben M.

Yelp
Nicks is a dirty, down home, fan friendly joint with a kitchen that's dishing out just about everything imaginable, and it's all pretty good. Nice selection of beers and bartenders that know how to mix a drink. 1000 televisions and they will set you up with whatever dog team you're rooting for.
google avatar

Gareth K.

Yelp
Came here with a friend that had been wanting to try it out. Beer flowed well but food was terrible. Pizza came out soggy with no flavor. Meatball sub was ok. My biggest complaint is that this place calls themselves a sports bar however they weren't able to offer sports. We tried to watch baseball but they don't subscribe to the MLB package so I was stuck watching re-runs and commercials.
google avatar

Victoria M.

Yelp
Setup: football games The good: neighborhood crowd, lots of tvs, lots of food options, tasty stuffed mushrooms and pizza, excellent service (especially Daniel) The bad: depends on the atmosphere you like - the space is old and divey Observations: On a previous visit it smelled funky inside, but it seems to have been remedied. Looks like new management so that's good.
