Nick's Place has been living on my bookmark for the longest time. For whatever reason, I just never found a reason to pay this place a visit. However, since someone had mentioned that Nick's Place serves a pretty decent Philly Cheesesteak (better than Pappa Geno's according to her), I just had to check this place out.
I came on a Sunday afternoon and the place was pretty much empty except for a few customers enjoying their smoke and beer out in the patio. A couple of guys were sitting inside watching the Champion League game on one of the many TVs inside. I took my seat and was immediately greeted by the server.
After taking a quick peek at the menu, I decided to order the fried pickles to start with (of course) and the Philly Cheesesteak because that's why I came here for, right? On top of whatever comes with the cheesesteak, I also asked to add some cheesewiz ($0.95) and some mushrooms ($0.75). And instead of fries, I asked for onion rings ($1.49).
The fried pickles came out first. And although they didn't taste half bad, I thought they didn't give you a lot of it for the price. One of my favorite places to get fried pickles (Mytiburger) charges about 40% less and give you a lot more pickles.
My cheesesteak finally came out and it was really good sized. And that girl wasn't lying, it tasted pretty darn good too. But would I say that it was better than Pappa Geno's? Probably not. But it would definitely make a good substitution for a cheesesteak when I don't feel like driving all the way to Pappa Geno's since Nick's Place is much more conveniently located for me.
Throughout my whole dining experience, someone was always checking up on me. It was either the server or another guy who would refill my water, bring me the check, etc. Maybe it was because the place was dead and they were just bored? Either way, during this particular experience, I was taken care of.
Considering that they have wall to wall TVs and also more TVs in the bar area, I would think that this place would be a great place to catch your favorite sporting event. However, I do think that this place would get packed also so I'll make it a point to come back when it' a full house and I'll see if the level of service stays the same, or if it's going to go down to the level of Texadelphia (it wasn't great). I'll also come back here to try their pizza since everyone is raving about it!!
