As a former longtime Beverly resident, (now living in Florida), I make it a point to get my Nick's fix every time I'm back home. I had seen the Facebook post that Nick & Nick had sold, and they assured their patrons that nothing would change, as the recipes were being passed on.
I picked up food for my husband and I, and we were extremely disappointed, and the food was sub par to say the least. I ordered the same as I always did; Junior beef, rare, cheese, plain (this is how Nick's always relayed the order to the staff). "Plain" means no sauce, and I did make sure to state no sauce just in case. The woman at the counter commented "well it's not plain if it has cheese". (Maybe she wasn't familiar with the Nick's original way of doing things).
Service was slow, and it was wrong. I walked back to the counter and informed one of the girls that the RB is supposed to have cheese. She questioned me a couple of times on that, then finally took the sandwich to add cheese. (And note that cheese is an additional charge, as it has always been).
The fries were always my favorite at Nick's. They were overcooked and whatever they used for oil tasted terrible. We tossed them. The zucchini sticks didn't have the marinara sauce I asked for when placing the order, but I did receive them after asking for them. The zucchini sticks were OK, but a bit soggy.
My roast beef was good, but not the original Nick's good. I've had much better elsewhere. My husband said his chicken sandwich was good, but not the best he's had.
We had heard from others that the food was not the same, but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. We won't be back.
