I remember this place from like 1998 VERY WELL because Delaware is NOTORIOUS & INFAMOUS for having THE WORST PIZZA in the USA!
Of the various jobs I had, I eventually started working at the boardwalk, and I found THIS PLACE! This pizza was SOOOOO GOOD! I NEVER understood why my wicked Step-Family Members couldn't understand that.
However, so much time has passed. I did find it interesting that in 2022, in a completely different town, everyone seemed to KNOW this pizza place. Which means, to me, that ALL THE OTHER PIZZA in the area is AWFUL.
Anyways, I finally returned, since my Mom moved back to Southern DE, so we made a plan to come here, and she bought me a pizza.
I was REALLY looking forward to it!
However, my experience was NOT THE SAME AS I REMEMBER.
All the people who worked there were PERFECT! So, I thank you guys for that!
But, The pizza fell apart, it was soggy, messy, and altho it smelled fantastic, the taste was too bland.
So, were my memories more NOSTALGIA????
Or, did it used to be amazing, and just change over time? Or, is pizza just better in other states, and I'm spoiled? I don't know. Its a philosophical quandary.
In my head, I always thought of THIS PIZZA as THE TOP BEST OF ALL TIME.... but in 1998-2005....
Or, were standards for pizza in the 20th century different? Was THIS a high quality pizza BACK THEN, and times changed? Or, did they change?
Was it TERRIBLE? No.
I WOULD still say that FOR DELAWARE this is probably THE BEST as it can get... but, that might seem like a back handed compliment.
I've pondered this for weeks, honestly.
Honestly, I don't feel this is the best pizza I could possibly get anymore. I guess that's OK tho. You could still make OK pizza, and there's nothing wrong with that.
That fact that I was disappointed, and didn't like this pizza all that much, and it was SOOOOO MESSY & Soggy has bothered me for weeks. The bread was not that good, the cheese was not the greatest quality, and the sauce made the cheese fall off. It went all over my hands, nose, face, chin, shirt, and messed up my mom's vehicle.
Good pizza SHOULD NOT DO THAT. The ratio of sauce to cheese was way off. WAY TOO MUCH SAUCE. Sauce should be just the right ratio to have the cheese melt and stay on the bread.
I'm really sorry.
