During our stay in Lecco, we stayed twice at Albergo Ristorante Nicolin. Lecco is the hometown of the famous Italian writer Alessandro Manzoni, author of the masterpiece I Promessi Sposi, which laid the foundation for the modern Italian language. That was our main reason for visiting the city and discovering the many viewpoints described in his novel. In addition, Lecco is a perfect base for excursions to Bergamo, Milan, Verona (Romeo & Juliet), Bellagio, and Lake Como.
On the recommendation of our son and daughter-in-law, we chose Albergo Ristorante Nicolin, and we have never regretted it. The hotel is a well-maintained three-star property with a limited number of clean, tidy rooms. What made the stay truly special, however, was the restaurant. Sublime, absolutely Michelin-star quality. The dishes are simple in design but, thanks to the refined combinations of flavors, are elevated to a true culinary experience. We genuinely wondered why the chef has not yet been awarded a star.
A word of advice: reservation is essential. The restaurant is clearly beloved by Lecco’s beau monde and was fully booked every evening. In addition to the excellent cuisine, we also found the staff to be reliable and attentive, with ample parking available.
In short: a fine hotel with an exceptional restaurant. An absolute must for anyone visiting Lecco, definitely an address not to be missed.
