"What St. Paul has lost with the shuttering of Muffuletta’s, it has regained in spades with Indigenous street tacos, mezcals and margs at Nico’s. The sprawling patio is the exact place to be for a sun drenched lunch that includes a margarita aptly named Spring Fever." - Joy Summers, Eater Staff

"Nico’s Tequila and Taco Bar will take over the long dormant Muffuletta space at 2260 Como Avenue in Saint Paul. Nico’s is a house turned taco shop with a tequila bar. It has since become a popular spot for happy hour and patio margaritas." - Joy Summers

The atmosphere is amazing from the little township exterior to the coastal feel inside. The vibe ✨️ is there for sure. It seems like a spot for sure where the locals visit frequently. The cocktails are in house made. Wth fresh ingredients AND A LOOK OF TEQUILA OPTIONS.one of the best prickly pear margarita 🍹 I've ever tasted. The steak tacos were good street style tacos. The meat was tender and well seasoned😋 everything was fresh and delicious. THE staff were amazing. Wonderful conversation. THE staff knew the menu answered all my questions and gave excellent recommendations. So much so that I will probably go back tonight if I can make it over there before they close. I have to run it back and this time take pictures of my food cause baby them 🌮 were gone in 60 seconds.

I have to admit I love setting up "quests" for myself. Best apple pie. Best gin. My newest quest is looking for the best birria tacos in the Twin Cities. Birria tacos are filled with slow coated meat cooked with spices and served in crispy corn tortillas. They originated in Michoacan in Mexico, and they are delicious! That is how we ended up at Nico's. Last weekend I picked up a batch take-out. Last night we ate at the restaurant. We arrived early and sat at the bar so we could talk about tequila and mezcal with the bartenders. They are incredibly knowledgeable, and I ask a lot of questions. I opted for the flight of repasado tequila. The shots were served in this amazingly cool wooden box decorated with a skull design. They were all good, and generally I don't like tequila! It turns out that the various types of tequila ( white, repasado, anejo) are incredibly different. My husband was ordering a cocktail, and the bartender recommended a different one, with Mexican whiskey and a corn liqueur, and my husband really liked it. Our friends arrived, and we sat at our table. We got their house made chips with a flight of salsas...I loved the roasted corn one but all were good. Of course I ordered the birria tacos - you get three complete with consume and radishes, onions, etc. These really are delicious. They are made with lamb, and it was tender and juicy. My husband and our friends got a mix of tacos. I liked the pescado and pescado asado tacos, but they needed a bit more salt and a bit more topping. The mushroom one was interesting, but rather bland. The single tacos range from $4-5, so it is very affordable. I also had their horchata, which was a very nice version of this classic rice and cinnamon drink. It was not overly sweet, which was very nice! All in all it was a lovely meal. I will absolutely go back for those birria tacos. The service could not have been better. They were attentive, kept the water glasses filled, and in every way made us feel taken care of. I recommend this place a lot.

Beautiful place to go eat, especially if you get the opportunity to eat outside. The food was very delicious and was as tasty as it looked. They did not disappoint. I will make note that I believe you can judge the quality of a place by how clean a bathroom is, and theirs is impeccable. If you're in the area, this place deserves a shot!

I've been here a few times over the years and the tacos are always fantastic! Do not sleep on the calamari they are my favorite by far but even the veggie tacos are great and fulfilling! The queso and elote are good and the salsas are good for the most part. This location is cute and comfy feeling.

Nico’s Taco Bar is a great local Mexican restaurant with great service and food. They have a lot of options for tacos with a variety of different meat/styles. The food is affordable and the quantity is very fair as well. Service was great and the outdoor seating is awesome during the summer. Parking is a bit difficult as there is only street parking so depending on the time of day it might take a bit to find a spot. I was able to find a spot at 6pm on a Friday night, but there were not many spots left.

The food was super delicious and the price was reasonable! Good quantity and lip smacking. Must try nachos! I loved the shrimp tacos as well! The service was also good. Very friendly and explained the menu to us.

loved the food—everything was delicious and well-prepared. However, service could be improved. We waited 13 minutes to place our order due to a large party in the back, and our waitress was also covering outside tables. After requesting a different server, our experience improved, and the staff was very attentive. To enhance the dining experience, better communication and table coverage management could help. Despite this, the food was fantastic, and I look forward to returning soon.

This place is PERFECT!!! Perfect location, vibe, and amazing tacos. We didn’t have a margarita but we wished we had when we found out it was all made with real ingredients versus margarita mix. The hot sauces were so unique and not too spicy but not too light. I can’t wait to come back!!!!! The biggest reason is the atmosphere both inside and out. That area has become my favorite cute market spots.
