I called in last minute yesterday to see if they had a table for my party consisting of my grandparents and parents. Since family was in town visiting and we needed a handicap accessible table, it meant a lot to me that the person who answered the phone was so warm, welcoming, and happy to help (she even made an effort to check in on us and say goodbye at the end of our meal)! Additionally, our server was awesome, he accommodated the picky eaters and made time for us despite how busy he seemed to be. The food at all of the Nico’s spots is always amazing to me, as well as the atmosphere and service. However, this location clearly makes an extra effort to be understanding and helpful! Thank you Nico’s for giving my grandparents a fun experience in Minneapolis this weekend!

Google
Fantastic experience on the patio tonight. Biggest highlight was barbarian enchiladas - such rich flavor. Steak fajitas were also deliciously fresh - meat wasn't overcooked. Favorite salsa with chips was the Verde Serrano. Also enjoyed Zona Rosa. Chile de arbol salsa was pushed my spice limit hard. Great relaxed service.

Google
Food was excellent but the service was AWFUL. We had to ask to have our order taken after sitting for 15-20 minutes. Then the server was extremely slow to stop by and never cleared used dishes so we ended up eating with all sorts of dishes/glasses around us. Brought food out first and then the drinks. The food WAS really good though. Great selection. It was moderately busy and the decor was really fun

Kanak P.

Google
Excellent service, great food, really fun drinks, and a pleasant surprise. Food was fantastic with tons of great vegetarian choices. Our server that collects Swatch watches is incredible. He truly made the whole experience memorable with his infectious personality and wonderful reccomendations. We will be back with the whole family!

Google
Just got an alert from my credit card that the bartender at nicos on penn changed my tip from a 20 percent tip to a 56 % tip. Unfortunately this is the 2nd time this has happened to me at this place so i will not be able to go there again. Beware. The staff is dishonest. He also charged me the non happy hour price for the queso during happy hour which i didnt bring up to him but will now when i call to speak to the manager. Maybe best to pay with cash if you go.

Google
Food was exceptional and fresh, service was fast, perfect patio seating. Try the guac flight and the non alcoholic majito. You won’t regret it!

Google
Fun :"Jingle Bar" Holiday experience Make reservations, popular at Christmas. Great drink menu and margaritas come in Holiday mugs, Fun! Dining room and Bar area are separate rooms. Good menu, tasty food and great service. Would go back

Stefanie J.

Google
Definitely a cool place and location. We sat on the patio and it’s nice and spacious. The inside was also super cool. Margaritas were really good. Drinks and food came out really fast. We got the guac and random tacos. I personally just like a little more to my guac and a little more to my tacos. Still very good! I liked that the tacos came with a verity of hot sauces.

Yelp
Stopped by Nico's for a quick happy hour and loved it! Both the classic margarita and the chips and queso were great. You get a good amount of queso with the chips, which I definitely appreciated. The restaurant is super cute, both inside and out. We went with a group of eight and they were able to seat us outside without any problem. Such a fun spot, I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
Our experience at Nico's was very nice, an excellent spot for lunch! The dining room was decorated nicely with lovely murals and paintings, and the many windows offered lots of natural light, complimenting the space. The drink menu had a delightful selection of cocktails with fun names; the cucumber mocktail margarita was super fresh and delicious. We got the 3 salsa flight with chips, an incredible option for those who like multiple dips. They have a pretty sizable collection of tacos and I selected the carnitas and the calamari. Both were delightful and dressed nicely! Service was excellent; our server was attentive and kind, never letting our water glasses stay empty for long, if at all! We will be back!

Yelp
Dinner on a Friday night with girlfriends. Food was pretty good. The mushroom taco was my favorite. Overall dining experience was okay, not great. The server we had wasn't very attentive.
google avatar

Yelp
Very solid happy hour offerings and great service. Especially enjoyed the queso gringo dip. Holiday decor definitely is a draw!

Yelp
Today was a rainy day. Bit of a chill and wasn't sure where to park courtesy of the do not park signs all along Penn. Walked in from a block away and the bartender was doing double duty on orders. I ordered veggie nachos as my date tonight is vegetarian. Well... She didn't care for them at all so I ended up munching on half of the order all by myself. Big order for sure. Any good? The chips are fried in oil so it's pretty heavy. It's loaded w fontana and crema cheeses which are beautiful but not a flavor I am fond of. The veggies were much pickled. The guac on top was a bit tart. Overall not my favorite... But if you love picked and fried foods (baseball games, half time, state fair....) you will enjoy these. She ordered a tostada and elote... She said it was reasonably good. So should you come? Yes. As much for the ambiance and the nice staff as anything.

Yelp
Had a taste for Mexican food and found Nico's on yelp and sure glad I did. Very friendly staff when we walked in and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Our server was very helpful and knowledgeable with what we should eat. The salsa flight was something I've never done before. All were very good with different depths of flavor. Worth a try. Margarita was very smooth not sweet at all. Each taco had its own story. Chorizo taco was not greasy at all and had just enough spice. The mushroom taco marinade I could bathe in. Was my favorite one! Barbacoa taco was also packing flavor with that slow roast. Finally, I could have eaten an entire cake of the pumpkin tres leches. Get it while it's on the menu before it's too late! Def worth the trip if you're downtown!
google avatar

Elise M.

Yelp
I loved the atmosphere here, all the decor was so light and airy. The salsas in the triple flight were all really good, especially the pumpkin and corn ones. The chicken enchiladas were good too, a ton of food! Service was fast and friendly.

Yelp
love this holiday pop up!!! everyone that entered the door had a positive compliment about the space. the holiday drinks were delicious; so many fun options! the bartender service was great. plenty of spots to sit whether you want to belly up at the bar or get a table with a group of friends. i went on a saturday afternoon, but i'd like to come back during the evening to see it all lit up :)

Yelp
Today included a joyful afternoon at #Nico's at 49th and Penn. What a beautiful and inviting winter wonderland. So kind of Nico's to allow Urban Sketcher's to hang out this afternoon - Nico's is such a good community neighbor at all their locations. The server Silas was delightful and quite an artist himself. I indulged in the Gringo Queso Dip - dangerously good. My sketch at Nico's feature Catherine and Jerry, fellow sketchers.

Yelp
Holy heck! Being from Texas, I have high standards for guacamole. Going north and expecting good guac is a gamble that doesn't always pay off. However, Nico's knows how to do guac! It was perfectly seasoned and limed. I was impressed! We went earlier on the fourth of July so it was a little dead, but our server was attentive without hovering. It was such a cutie place with great guac and margs. I would highly recommend.

Jon E.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and good friendly service. However, the food is just average and the drinks are WAY over priced. I really don't know what the hype is all about.
google avatar

Melanie H.

Yelp
I met my girlfriends for dinner + drinks, and we had so much fun! I've never been here before, but was pleasantly surprised with the VERY quick food service and yummy drinks. I ordered the spicy marg, shrimp taco and carnitas taco. We shared the birria tacos, and it was so delicious! They forgot the chorizo in our queso, and brought it out on a separate dish for us to mix into our existing queso... - but hey, it was still yummy! The vibes were a little less "holiday" than we were expecting, but needless to say, we had a great time together.

Yelp
This is such a cute place! We met friends for a light dinner and cozy chat. They have a great outdoor patio but we couldn't get seating. The inside was just as wonderful with an open air environment. The waiter suggested some taco options and other specialties of the house. Our group ordered tacos, and nachos. We had both the chorizo and the pork asada nachos. They were amazing in every way. HIUGE portions, lots of meat and toppings. Worth every single penny!! Our friends had the tacos and kept raving about how wonderful they were as well. The waiter was professional. Not super warm but he kept our drinks full. We will definitely return. It is a great place to enjoy a beautiful MN evening!

Yelp
Stopped here on a Friday night for happy hour. Be warned it does end earlier at 5 pm vs 6 pm compared to their other locations. Opted for the house margarita which was good, not my favorite. It was slightly sweet for my liking. Ordered the Babacoa taco and burrito. Both were good again, nothing that blew my socks off. Pricing was slightly expensive for what you got. Then we tried the specialty cocktail with tequila and mezcal (don't know what it's called because I can't find a drink menu online) but so so good! Have to come back for that drink! Overall the inside is gorgeous with lots of bar seats, tables and outdoor patio seating in the summer. Very fun spot to grab a drink and some small bites.
google avatar

Jingle M.

Yelp
Sully was our server and he was a treat! Good advice for the many Margarita choices, liked the Mezcal Margarita the best!! Very peaceful spot and can't wait to try the patio. Had queso and chips with drinks and taste tested the Lengua tongue taco meat. Once you get past the mental barrier of "tongue", loved the tender fabulousness. Will be back.

Yelp
Margaritas: cucumber margarita was refreshing. The spicy margarita with cilantro (can't remember what it was called) was GREAT. Salsa flight: -pico: great -Aguacate: my favorite. Great texture and flavor, Not too hot. -Zona Rosa: a pumpkin chipotle salsa, nice and creamy. Tacos: -Mushroom: Ordered this based on other reviews. Unexpectedly amazing!! -Chipotle Camaron: plump shrimp with a yummy chipotle aioli and slaw. A fat taco that was exactly what I wanted- would definitely order again. -Barbacoa: good flavor but a little dry. Would have been nice to have sauce or some pickled red onions. Key lime pie: would skip, overly sweet Coffee: strong and delicious Service was great.

Yelp
My wife and I were on our weekly new restaurant tour of the Twin Cities. We saw Nico's Tacos on Yelp and it looked good. Unfortunately, they have some construction going on in front of the restaurant, but we parked along the street a little ways up. We sat down after the nice hostess asked if a high top table was okay and I ordered an Indeed IPA to peruse the menu. We got three tacos from our super nice server. An octopus, a barbacoa and a lengua (Tongue) Now some people may bark at lengua, but it is wonderful, flavorful and a little bit of smokey flavor to it. It is really good. We also ordered a grilled jalapeño for a couple of bucks. Go for it. It comes out temp hot and the spice starts to kick in after a few bites, totally get it added. The lengua taco was delicious, fatty, yet flavorful and the three salsas we got were the top three on the menu of salsas. Each one was a masterpiece of Heavan in your mouth. Super flavorful and lots of spices and each one stood on its own. I wouldn't have minded a free few chips, just to soak up the leftovers. The octopus was chewy, but not burdensome and mixed well with some salsa dipping. The barbacoa was full of meat, as well as all of the others and was just moist and perfect. (Good name for a band) (A big plus for how much meat they put in each taco, they aren't cheap, but they don't skimp on the meat.) Overall, a great lunch, some goofy characters were eating at the restaurant which kept us amused and you have to try this place, a solid five star.

Yelp
This is a newer location for Nico's tacos, the food is good, but I feel the uptown location is better. However, this is still a great neighborhood restaurant for locals.
google avatar

Nicole C.

Yelp
What an adorable restaurant! Not overly done, very welcoming, bright and so comfortable. Everyone that worked there was amazing, smiling and helpful. The food- seriously- WOW. Fresh, delicious and beautiful. The flavors were amazing and its clear attention and care is important in the preparation. My only negative is lack of parking but it was well worth the block walk to enjoy all the goodness! Can't wait to go back and try more options!

Yelp
I stopped in with a group of eight for the Christmas pop-up. We had a reservation but still had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. When we were seated, we were sat in the back in a private room, which itself would be fine. Except there was no ambiance. It was dark, poorly lit, and barely decorated. It did not have the cheerful Christmas vibe as the rest of the place. Additionally, there was one large booth and only two chairs, so we had to sit like some weird interview panel six against two. I had to ask if we could get an extra chair, and that took a long time to find one. You would think the restaurant would have had the foresight to have more than two chairs in a "party room." The drinks were fine, had fun festive names. Alcoholic drinks were priced around the $15 price point, which I feel is average for the Cities. I also ordered some tacos. The presentation was nice, but the meats were both very dry. Luckily they came with the extra salsa, it was much needed. Overall, it was not worth the price point. I will say, the waitress did a nice job. She was professioanl and did her best to help. She did end up finding us an extra chair and was able to up the lighting so we weren't sitting in the dark the whole time.

Yelp
Was excited to try this newer location of Nico's. We've been to the one in uptown quite a few times and have always had a great experience. Thai location has the same menu and the vibe is nice, including the small patio area. The execution of the food however fell short of the uptown location. It was pretty good but since we were expecting the same quality and taste as the one on Hennepin, it was disappointing.
google avatar

Annie D.

Yelp
Not my first time at Nico's but my first time getting a quesadilla. One of the best quesadillas I have had. I took some friends while they were visit town and they all loved their food. We sat upstairs but it was later in the evening and the music was a little too loud so it was hard to chat but if it were nicer out it would've been nice to sit outside. Service was good but a little slow even though it wasn't busy but I will be back for sure!
google avatar

Ashley N.

Yelp
I love dining here! The ambiance is fantastic! I find new details catching my eye every time I'm in. I was excited to see the frambuesa margarita is back on the menu - this has always been my favorite! I also recommend the nachos with pollo de tinga. If you are looking for a snack, consider trying the queso gringo. Parking is limited onsite, so there is a decent chance you will need to grab an on street spot. Also, the patio is dog friendly, which makes Nico's a top choice for me during warmer months.
google avatar

Lisa A.

Yelp
Nico's Tacos on Como Avenue is always a fantastic experience! The manager is so welcoming and goes out of their way to make sure everyone is well taken care of. My sister, who's vegan, had plenty of delicious choices to enjoy. The patio is beautiful, full of lush plants, and has a really great atmosphere. And the food? Consistently excellent! This is definitely the restaurant I visit most often in the Twin Cities.

Yelp
I heard about Nico's twice since I was here in Minnesota. The first time, I was supposed to meet up with some college friends and dine in. This time, my brother told me about it, so I felt that it was a sign from the taco gods to partake in some fine dining. Nico's is a family-friendly restaurant. Upon entering the establishment, you see all walks of life there. Young and old alike, there was a healthy mix of people there, and that is always a good sign. The weather was amazing, so we decided to dine outside. When I walked through the indoor portion of the restaurant, there was great decor. I loved the huge portrait of a woman that greets you as soon as you enter. There was plenty of seating. There was no wait, but the restaurant most definitely was not empty. The service was fantastic. One thing that stuck out to me here at Nico's was the speed. We ordered everything at the same time, appetizer, drinks, and tacos. It seems like everything came out as fast as we ordered. Their menu was very simple, and I was glad the service was on point because I did have a plane to catch. As for the food, the variety of tacos here stood out to me the most, I'm not sure the last time I said to myself, "I've never heard of this taco before." I've been doing this taco thing for most of my life, but this menu had some that I just had to try, like the scallop and calamari tacos. My favorite by far was the calamari tacos. The texture was perfect, and the sauces that they had in the taco were amazing as well. I also continued my octopus streak and tried the octopus ceviche while I was there, nothing spectacular about this dish, but I wanted to try it. Nico's is a no brainer if you ever have the chance to stop by, please do!

Yelp
Chicken nachos were really good as were the birria tacos. Nice Christmas ambiance inside. Staff was great as well
google avatar

Mykenna C.

Yelp
The service was great. It was to rain that day while we were sitting on the patio and they offered us an inside seat. Drinks were decent and the chips, queso, and other salsa options were alright. There was variety in different salsa which is nice if you have a group of people who all want a different flavor! The patio is pet friendly and the inside is very beautiful.

Yelp
I completely recommend ! Trying out everything and anything on this menu !! Came here one afternoon and can I tell you I was not regretting it !! I absolutely LOVED LOVED everything I had !! Truly flavorful , servers were wonderful ! Great environment very fun place and if you don't know ask !! The salsas were ALM amazing!!
google avatar

William G.

Yelp
I ate at this location of Nico's soon after they opened and wasn't impressed with the food; however, I recently returned with a large group of about a dozen and my experience was much better. This visit I ordered tacos, shrimp and calamari, which were very good. In my previous visit I had the tamale which was lacking so maybe it is best to stick with the tacos. As I mentioned we were a large group which is always a test for the staff but our food all came out at the same time with only one minor glitch. I would return.
google avatar

Linda D.

Yelp
Just had the best Taco's I've had in a long time here for lunch today. The Calamari taco was my favorite but loved the shrimp, scallops taco too. Decorated beautifully for the season too. I can't wait to come back up to the cities and eat here again
google avatar

Nicole A.

Yelp
1st time at Nico's and it did not disappoint! I'm very picky with my Birria tacos but this place is at the top of the list! Fantastic! Queso was good. Elote was ehh. I didn't like that it came on the cob and had to cut it. Was too messy to eat and the corn was very small. Churros were decent, I wanted the tres Leche but was out so next time! Drinks were awesome! Great holiday selection! Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Dave H.

Yelp
Ate here recently and thought the tacos and salsas were excellent. Front of house very on the ball. Not using fresh squeezed lime juice in a $13 marg is crazy, though.
google avatar

Fabio A.

Yelp
The architecture, the food and the service are definitely worth the experience. Great for events or to celebrate a birthday. I got a side of pickled jalapeños, a mixed greens salad and a tuna tostada, all really fresh and flavorful.

Jeannine M.

Yelp
The outdoor seating was really nice. Service great. We were only interested in getting a couple of drinks and snacks. We ordered one of the Guacamole options and the queso dip. Both of these were yummy, but the freshly homemade chips for dipping really made everything delicious. I will definitely recommend and try to come back when I am in the area. Next time, I'll try more options for food, but I know when I go back, I'm going to want these two items, so gonna have to come hungry.

Yelp
We stopped in for a dinner date, excited to try another location of our favorite Uptown taco place. Unfortunately this may have been a really rough off night. No silverware on the table. No waters. It was a busy night to be sure... however... the Nico's experience is usually mad busy but mad good! My partner and I ordered a cocktail, and the waitress came back to tell us they ran out of what he ordered. He ordered another one. The waitress came back to tell us they ran out of that one too. He ordered a third. This one they had! But it arrived with a long black hair in it. The waitress took it off our bill but that was a pretty poor start. He didn't try for a 4th time. We tried to have a conversation but the width of the tables made hearing one another without shouting a challenge. The original taco bar is loud but you're close enough to those with whom you're dining to have a reasonable conversation. We pivoted to a silent date and texted one another across the table. I enjoyed the Sopes I ordered and he liked the tacos he ordered. The food was good, everything else left a fair bit to be desired. As I said, probably an off night and we will try again.

Yelp
Couldnt find parking at another* Mexican restaurant at 50th and france. Glad we came here instead! Great Paloma and house marg. Tacos with fresh blue corn tortillas. Great bartender helped with recommendations. Can't wait to come back ! Loved the fried fish taco
google avatar

Ethan P.

Yelp
We tried Nico's for the first time today and it was amazing. We sat inside but they had the doors open and the breeze felt great. I ordered the chorizo quesadilla but they were out so the waitress recommended carnitas instead and it was fantastic. I can't remember the name of my drink, I was called something like "Youbetcha..." and it had pineapple and coconut in it. It was very good! Reminded me of being in Mexico again. We definitely will be back again!
google avatar

Jose D.

Yelp
My favorite to go place! Nicest staff, young and jovial. Great food, great margaritas, great bar. Nice!!!
google avatar

Polly S.

Yelp
Delicious!!! Get the traditional guacamole!! To die for! Staff was extremely polite and gracious almost, flavors are incredible! Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Scott B.

Yelp
A new addition to our neighborhood, and wow is all I can say. A great bar and a menu for an inexpensive snack or a full meal. Delicious and beautifully served. Along with stopping for a beer at the bar, I planned a happy hour with clients. Nico's went above and beyond to make sure I had the right table and the service was great. The waiter pointed out the happy hour specials. The vibe was friendly and the place was lively. I'm a fan.

Madeleine J.

Yelp
Great service in a beautiful space. Such tasty tacos! Especially loved the chorizo and pescado. Definitely will be coming back soon.
google avatar

Ken W.

Yelp
We walked in sat down, then left. First time I've ever walked into a "Mexican" restaurant and literally everything on the menu was unappealing. $8 for a taco??? $13 for guacamole??? I can't say if the food or service is good or other. Completely unappealing menu. Good luck!
google avatar

Holly E.

Yelp
Super happy and impressed with the ambiance and margarita selection! On a nice summer night it honestly made me feel like I was in Scottsdale. The only reason for the one drop in stars is that they really seemed to be understaffed. It took forever to be seated when there were many open tables and then took awhile to get in an order as well. Definitely will come back, but wouldn't bring my parents here as I know they wouldn't have the patience.
google avatar

Matthew H.

Yelp
Sat at the bar and was not recognized for 10 minutes. Paloma was not made correctly. Was told I could not order tacos without onions on them. Have always ordered without onions in the past. Wanted chips and salsa while waiting for food and drink. Was given one little plastic salsa container. Lasted 1/4 of the chips. The people that served me seemed lost and not very welcoming

Sophia H.

Yelp
Absolutely love! Strawberry margarita is so good and refreshing! Love the birria tacos, but all of the tacos are good! You cannot go wrong with the guacamole and the queso. Great place to have a casual dinner or special night out.

K. H.

Yelp
We took St. Paul friends to Nico's the other day. I was surprised at how spacious and airy the place is, and I loved the decor. The menu is extensive and authentic, and we enjoyed the burritos and tacos we ordered. Looking forward to more meals at Nico's!
google avatar

Nicole K.

Yelp
Great food and great service. We loved the salsa flight. Sat at the bar and got great service.

Steve A.

Yelp
Have had great experiences at their Hennepin Ave location. Went here shortly after opening. Bad service. Ok food. Charged us double what we ordered. Did try to make it right by changing/charging the right amount and giving us a $50 gift card. Maybe wait for stabilization.
