I have not been to Nidda Thai since they have remodeled/ the plaza in which they were situated remodeled, so naturally seeing that it was open again, I decided to order out. I ended up ordering my old favorites which I have noted my ratings:
- The crispy spring rolls with the sweet chili sauce (1/5)
The spring rolls just tasted dried out, like they have been made, left frozen for a while, and then deep fried. The veggies were not minced well enough and frequently found myself pulling away from the spring roll with large strings of soggy cabbage, which were just rather unappealing. The tofu was definitely spongy almost like couch batting, which comes as an indicator of how long it has been in the freezer. The only reason I have given this item a "1" is due to the sweet chili sauce. This is one of the better sweet chili dipping sauce I have tasted. I would recommend purchasing this sauce alone and going elsewhere for the spring rolls.
- The steamed chicken dumplings with the ginger dumpling sauce (0/5)
The verged on inedible and I did not eat these. I wanted to try them as they came highly recommended, but I would steer clear of these for sure. they are completely saturated in garlic oil and garlic chips. Garlic chips may have been a nice addition, but there were much too many followed by a large portion of the oil that they were cooked in making this dish over powered by the garlic, especially the unseasoned oil. If you can get past that you are hit with a very thin, flaccid wonton wrapper that also has its own "freezer burned/freeze dried qualities" that seems to completely fall off the filling, essentially making this "dumpling" into a spongy garlic meatball of sorts.
- Cup of Mild Tom Kha Gai with steamed white rice (2/5)
Lasting I did end up ordering the Tom Kha Gai. This dish wasn't that bad and the broth did have a nice developed flavor, but I have had better. The mushrooms added were pretty bland and tasteless and so was the chicken, but the chicken was of good quality (pounded flat with no chewy pieces of cartilage). Also I very much like the addition of the cilantro as it was not thrown in like an after thought, but simmered soft in the broth. Another disappointment was the fact that the rice did not make it into my order.
Overall, I will not be coming back as it seems that the food has slipped in quality and these items are much too expensive for the quality provided. I would highly recommend trying Kin Dee instead. It might be more expensive, but around the same price point, but the quality is phenomenal and you will not be disappointed. Be prepared to wait a bit longer for the food though, and with that in mind you will definitely enjoy Kin Dee.
