This was a great place to eat. The chicken and gumbo were good. The side of cabbage was about the best thing I've put in my mouth. Kudos to nigel's for this food. Really good, borderline amazing. Good wait staff as well. Thank you for the food

The food was absolutely delicious. Everything came hot and seasoned, good portion sizes. Get the collard greens for one of your sides, SOOO good!!! The waiters and cooks were sweet and hardworking. A must-go spot in town!

The food is good and the service is great as well. His Auntie is the best. She made sure my order was on point at the Hanahan location the week before and I ran into her again a week later at the Ladson rd location. Same great service!!

We stopped by Nigel's while visiting South Carolina with family and found this small town family restaurant nestled in a shopping center. They specialize in soul food and overall it was pretty good. I tried the fried chicken, mac and cheese, mash potatoes and greens - all of it was solid and the prices were even better, especially if you're planning to enjoy a drink. The sweet tea was a little too sweet for my taste, but our server was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Overall, my family was satisfied and if find myself in this town again, Nigel's would be a good spot I'd return to for a satisfying meal.

Really enjoyed the blend of flavors and textures in this wonderful soul food. We had Low Country Ravioli with a side of Texas Toast and country-fried pork chops with 3 sides (collard greens, mac and cheese, and corn bread). Washed it down with house-made sweet tea. It really hit the spot! Thanks to our waitress, Misty, for her efficient, friendly service. Word of advice: This is a very popular diner so eat early before they run out of any items.

I'm a foody traveling the world. I don't typically go to US based restaurants as most of the food is kind of similar anywhere you go. I had to try some southern style cooking as I was visiting from the upper midwest and was very curious. I will say the souther food has a bit more beacon gravy flavors. First time trying grits which was okay. The cabbage was sautéed in some beacon juices which did give it a unique flavor. Mac and cheese was kind of bland but luckily there was some salt and pepper on the table. I will say the one thing that didn't disappoint was what the south is known for, fried chicken. It was crispy, had a nice taste to the breading and the chicken was still soft and juicy. If this is traditional souther food, it's okay and kind of what I expected. I usually prefer the flavors of the world where spice meets tastebuds instead of just the simple flavors of the meat juices or broth and gravy. Not on the restaurant but just not my cup of tea. As I've tried hundreds of other US traditional food places before and they are pretty much the same when it comes to food taste. 3 out of 5 starts is considered high for US food.

From what I was told...this place is not like what it use to be. I'm sad to say what I heard was a thousand percent true. The place was relatively empty and yet it still took sometime to get my food. The menu was not that large which means not a lot to choose from. Don't get me wrong customer service was excellent. Loved it!!! But the reason we go to these places is the food and that ....left me wishing I chose somewhere else to eat. The plates are in my opinion over priced. The thing i found funny is they give you 3 sides with you order but I'm not paying all this money for sides. Let my plate reflect a decent portion of protein as well then I'm happy. I tried there signature appetizer there geechi wings... they gave me missing something vibes. I had a turkey wing dinner...they gave me A ...turkey wing and it appeared to have come from a young butterball...very disappointing. Add insult to injury...they charged me $22 for it...ridiculous. All in all i was not happy about this visit at all. You know what they say...you don't get a 2nd time to make a 1st impression so sorry to say in the case of this place.. that's sooooo true.

I was in South Carolina visiting family and one of my request was to get eat Authentic Soul Food. We look it up and Nigel’s popped up when we were visiting Charleston. WOW!!! What a great experience. I’m not a wing girl BUT the Geechie wings were 100/10!!! The flavor and the light crisp were sooo soo good! The fried steak with the gravy was delish, friend chicken and fried pork chop were so good too. We took the banana pudding home and that was 100/10 too. Our waitress was super sweet (sorry, I forgot her name) I also learned what Geechie meant and I now know what it stands for. I promise to go back when I’m visiting. Thank you

Nigel's catered my fiancé 's Memorial Service and the food was Phenomenal!!!! Not only was it so delicious, the presentation of the dishes were amazing as well! It was ready to be picked up on time & the owner (Nigel) really gave me a good deal on the price! We had about 25 people there and almost everyone could take food home and then we still had several pans left over. My Mom went home with about 4 pans full of food, which is crazy, because she never likes anything!! I would definitely recommend any of his locations to my friends and family and to all of you !

On the recommendation of my brother we ordered for delivery fried.pork chops collard greens yams cornbread and Geechie wings the aroma of the wings filled our hotel room room with a down home mommas kitchen vibe. Unfortunately my collard greens were salty the yams were canned my pork chops were OK but when I got to the last one I could see it rested in a pool of fryer oil but the star of the show was the geechie wings

Our family ate here last year after the fair and it was really good; food and service. This year we ate there again after the fair and invited some friends to join us since it was their first time. It wasn't busy when we got there and it was a Saturday around 430pm. We waited a few minutes while they set up a table for us since there was 8 of us. We ordered drinks and the only drinks they had were water, tea, and lemonade. I ordered the fried shrimp dinner which comes with 2 sides. It was good and I liked the red rice. It had a little bit of spice. My son got Grandma Fred's shrimp and Grits and he loves it. He's 12 and it was a very big bowl of it, which he finished it. His friend got the gumbo and it looked really good. He said it was good and took the rest home bc it was a big bowl. My husband got the country fried steak and he liked his food as well. My daughter got the Gychee wings (appetizer) as a meal with a side of fries. They give you a big portion of wings and the sauce was awesome. Her first choice was the seafood Alfredo , but they didn't have the ingredients. The wings were really big and tasty so she was happy. She didn't finish them either. Now to our friend's orders. The daughter wanted the crab and shrimp ravioli and they didn't have that either. So she ended up getting the chicken wings and waffle , but wanted to substitute the waffles for fries instead. She also got two sides. The Mac n cheese didn't have any flavor. When her order came they gave her 2 legs and a thigh, which was what she didn't want. But she just ate it. Her dad ordered the chicken fried steak and he said it was good. The mom ordered the fried chicken and she said the chicken was a little salty but ok. Her meal was pretty much similar to her daughters. When they go their bill they found out that their daughters meal was charged 3 separate sides. Our waitress was nice but she needed to be more attentive . We didn't get refills when we needed them. It is a nice place and the food was good.

I first heard about this place from a contractor who was visiting from out of town. This is his go-to spot for soul food. I've ordered a few times and have dined in a few times with different family members. I didn't realize I hadn't reviewed it. Everything I've had was well-seasoned and tasted good. Depending on the time of day, it could take more time than you are used to to receive your food. I imagine this is the scenario with many restaurants as they continue to look for employees. The staff is always friendly and I will definitely go back.

Upon entering the restaurant I notice they had a "C" rating on the door. The food quality was so disappointing. Whiting fish- no seasoning, Yams was cold and the mashed potatoes was very lumpy. Please take pride in your food. I will never return to the business. Such a disappointment. Save your money and eat at home.

I was in Charleston visiting my cousins from Alaska. I thought it would be a good idea to eat some Southern food. I wish I had made a different suggestion. Misty, our server, immediately greeted us with a smile but quickly told us what they had run out of for the day, which included waffles, black-eyed peas, and sausage, which, in her words, "means you can have gumbo, but not with sausage. The three of us decided to order the Geechi wings and the fried green tomatoes. From the menu, it appeared that the wings came with the fried green tomatoes, but when they arrived at the table, the wings were alone, and the fried green tomatoes were on a bed of grits. The wings were okay but could have been better. The grits were very seasoned for restaurant grits, but I didn't hate them. We all ordered the fried chicken with varying sides. The chicken was seasoned very well and extremely tasty. The mac and cheese was dry and hard and had no flavor. The yams were straight out of a can. The mashed potatoes were boxed and not the good box. The collard greens were dry and lacked flavor. The potato salad was decent. The red rice was red and hard and wasn't flavorful. Honorable mention: The bathrooms were deplorable. Please do yourself a favor. DO NOT waste your hard-earned money on eating here. It was a horrible experience.

Finally got to try Nigel's the other night. Got the fried chicken, fried cabbage, collards, and rice. Liked all of it. Wish the chicken was fresh but I know they probably cook a bunch and have it on hand. I did take out. Unfortunate that you can't ask for 2 thighs and a leg. Service was pretty slow getting my order. I actually think they forgot about my order. The hostess had to go back twice to check on it. If I hadn't already paid I would've left. Food was good so there is a possibility I may come back.

I really liked this place. Our server Deijah was super nice and helpful. Girl deserves a raise! Anyway, got the fried green tomatoes and my entree was the fried pork chops with gravy, collard greens and red rice. So good. No, it's not a fancy place but I mostly care about the food vs ambiance.

All I have to say is this place was freaking amazing!! I would have eaten here our entire vacation! The atmosphere, fun fun fun! It was karaoke night! The staff, some of the friendliest people I have ever met! Our waitress loved talking about the food and the culture of the food! The food... wow! Flavorful! Perfectly cooked and it is cooked with loved! If I go back to South Carolina I am going to the place again and again!!

Southern comfort food at its best!! The corn bread will make you want to slap someone! Especially after that delicious butter melts on top! My two favorites meals at Nigel's are the Lowcountry Ravioli and the Shrimp and Grits! Charleston is known for its' shrimp and grits and Nigel's doesn't disappoint! There's a nice kick in the sauce on the shrimp and grits that makes them different from other recipes. The Lowcountry Ravioli is filled with so much goodness, every bite is full of flavor and delivers another taste of southern cuisine! From the collard greens to the black eyed peas, this combination is the perfect blend of Lowcountry grown treasures. We will continue to come back again and again!

Yes I recommend this place. I have ordered to go a few times and always had a great experience. Food was fast and was just what I was looking for ..... Food from my childhood. Delicious!!!!! Service was fast and friendly!!!

While staying at a local hotel for a meeting, I asked the bartender for a local dining suggestion. Without hesitation, he said, "Nigel's!!" This place may not be downtown Charleston, but the food is as good as it gets! It is worth the drive! No matter what you order, it will be perfect t soulful!!!!

My order was wrong that is the only reason I give it a 4, but the food is great! I highly recommend getting the fried chicken, the collards, and the Mac n Cheese! The mashed potatoes are different, they're not mashed it's chunkier, still good just a heads up if you're wanting mashed potatoes. People and staff are very laid back nice and accommodating! Ordering to-go on a Friday night is not recommended as they're slammed, so you maybe waiting a while for your food that anticipated. The atmosphere is very basic and located at a corner of a shopping center, not romantic and or anything fancy. Reminds me of a diner! Food is relatively affordable and you get huge servings!

Been wanting to eat from this place for awhile now. Got a chance stop by since it is close to where we were. We got there before it started to get too busy. They were out of crab for their crab and shrimp meal. Ordered the fried chicken with 3 sides instead. The chicken was a bit salty and was only able to eat one, plus they forgot to bring one of my sides. Mac and cheese was bland, corn was chewy and potato salad was ok. Didn't received refills on our drinks; they only had lemonade and water available for drinks. They could have been more attentive with their guests. Place was pretty crowded by the time we left. I think everyone else enjoyed the meal, however I wasn't too pleased with mine.

It's been way too long! If you haven't been, rethink and go. This place is food for your soul. Everything is so good. I had the fried chicken and it was so juicy! The banana pudding is the best I've ever had. I'm so glad I was able to revisit an oldie but goodie in town.

The fried chicken was well crisped and made with passion. The servers were respectful as we entered the building. I recommend this restaurant to people who are into soul food. Will definitely be coming back again.

Amazing place tucked next to a piggly wiggly so you might miss it. Almost the whole table got fried chicken and it was incredibly delicious. Big slice of corn bread. Green beans were yummy. And prices were very reasonable. My only complaint is they ran out of red rice and that sounded awesome. Oh well. People like their stuff so much they run out. Everything seems good so you'll have options.

I've been to Nigels in N. Charleston before and loved the food, so i decided to give the location in Ladson a try. The Ladson location has more menu options and my group opted for choices we hadn't seen on the other menu. The service was excellent, the server, Bill, knew the menu very well and provided great details on what was available with each option. The food came out relatively quickly and was exactly as ordered. The food was flavorful, and very filling. Since we had difficulty deciding what to order, we grabbed a third entree to go along with some geechee wings.

Visited after church. They were a little busy when we arrived, but got a table immediately & and it didn't take long for a server to come to us. It took a while for the food to arrive, but not an extremely long time. Everything was hot & tasty. There was no doubt that their AC & fans were working, but I'd rather be chilly & put on a light jacket, then hot & miserable. My 2nd choice meal was the Lowcountry Ravioli, so I will have to visit again soon for that.

The only great thing was the service- Kaitlyn- very soft-spoken, but sweet, efficient and got all 7 orders correct and was apologetic that she could not serve alcohol because she was only 17. There was a bar and we are a group who tries to go to new places every Monday night (a lot of restaurants are closed on Mondays, so we are often limited) There were at least 2 other people in the kitchen who were over 18 but we could not get alcohol! Our server was actually going to call the server who just left to see if she would serve us. We declined her offer- it didn't seem fair. We are all in our 70s and 80s- not like we were trying to use underage ids! The food was actually very good- the yams in particular were to die for! My fried chicken was very good but I can't speak for the others- I think they enjoyed their burgers and fries. But we really wanted a beer- draft, bottle, anything...goes great with the menu items. Owner needs to be sure there is a person of age who can serve.

The food here just continues to be so good. I recently stopped in for dinner & brought a friend for their first visit. My food was delicious. Their food was delicious. She said it was some of the best friend chicken she's ever had. Their cornbread is one of my favorite items, as simple as that sounds. Will always be willing to eat here!

Too expensive for what you get. Chicken fried steak tasted like old fryer oil. Limas were too salty to eat. Corn, definitely canned, cooked until it was chewy and also WAY oversalted. I like a lot of salt, and I regularly add it to anything I've ordered, but this was inedible. It was fast and hot, and the mashed potatoes were delicious, but not worth over $20 for lunch.

This is what you call feel good food. I ordered the gumbo with a side of macaroni. And my friend ordered the fried pork chops with rice and gravy, collards, and yams. In my opinion the gumbo is one of the best things on the menu (yes better than the geechie wings). Do not expect anything amazing with their sides it's honestly pretty disappointing, but the main dish mostly outweighs that tragedy.

Very rude staff! Stopped here for lunch. Only one other table in use and they were leaving. Waitresses ignored me and walked by several times. Finally waitress for the table that was leaving walked over and said she didn't know where my waitress was but what could she get me to drink. I told her she walked off and just started chatting with other people while I continued to sit there, watching waitresses, walked by with no concern or interest in waiting on me Left and I will not be back to bother them.

The food was good, don't go too close to closing. They run out. Place two whiting dinners; only able to one whiting dinner with one piece of fish. Change a dinner to fried chicken and got a thigh with two drummettes.

Good soul food. 7/10 We ate lunch at Nigel's Good Food II in Ladson, AC. Their menu items focus mostly on soul food. The restaurant was dimly lit with several tables and a full bar on the side. The servers were nice and attentive. We ordered a fried chicken sandwich with backed mac and cheese - stewed chicken with lima beans, Mac and cheese, and red rice - Bam's Spicy Gumbo over white rice. All the food tasted good with good flavor. I give Nigel's Good Food II a 7/10.

After waiting 30 mins only for cornbread this is what I see once I got home. This small burnt piece of bread. I've experienced long wait times and them running out of food before but never experienced the food tasting good. This was such a disappointment. This may be my last time coming here.

Reminds me of my childhood. The only thing missing was my Great Aunt Lucille. I grew up in the area and southern food was a staple in our house. My grandmother lived with us and she was old school southern. She grew up in Loris, SC, which is exactly how big you'd imagine. Her sister, my Aunt Lucille, was a maniac in the kitchen. She made the best fried chicken, pork chops, etc., you could imagine. We would eat fried brim, shrimp, chicken and always great okra, red rice, collards, Lima beans on the planet. I continue to cook some of our family meals, like hoppin' john (not black-eyed peas but the real cow peas), greens and all the other great southern food I grew up on, but it just isn't the same. So when I decided to spend 6 weeks with my 81 year old mom to keep her company during COVID, we scoured the area to find good restaurants to try. My sister is a huge fan of Nigel's, so we came for lunch on a Monday. Both my mom and sister ordered the shrimp gumbo and I stole a taste. It was really good. I got the fried chicken with collards, red rice and Lima beans. Wow! What a great meal. The Lima beans were the white limas like I'm used to and the collards and red rice took me back. I honestly could have made a meal out of the sides but I also devoured the chicken. It was so good that I got a side of collards to have for dinner later. This is truly some of the best southern food I've had. Hope to come back here again soon. Don't bother with Page's...this is traditional southern cuisine.

They don't take call in orders, so I had to wait on my order to be prepared. Wings and fries. The Geechie Wings were delicious. Not sure what's in the 'geechie' sauce, but it's good. It's not too sweet and not too savory like a bbq sauce. It's right there in the middle. And it's nice. It took about 10 minutes for my order to be ready. The fries were good and the blue cheese had a sweet taste to it. Not bad either. I'll be back.

Tried Nigel's for the first time today, and was very underwhelmed. Ordered takeout and waited 20 minutes to pay $20 for 2 sides of collard greens, 1 side of red rice and corn bread. Collard greens were decent, but very small portions. Rice was very dry. Corn bread was best part of meal, but definitely not worth price. Staff was friendly but restaurant was stuffy and had limited air conditioning. Not great for Charleston in the Summer.

Ok I love both locations, ever the so slightest Differences. At #1 the fried cabbage Is just a hair sweeter than number 2, but location #2 Has a little Has a little smoky flavor to it. Wow that is picky i know but both locations are so close in flavor, service how do you choose? Even though yelp isnt showing it #2 has sit down dining. They both are about equal distance from my house. Both locations have some of the best home cook soul food your lips will ever kiss. My go-to-meat and 3. The chicken is a knockout, smother pork chops are king. Now my wife loved the stuffed ravioli, and favors the fried chicken. So if you haven't been here why not? Ask yourself doesn't your taste buds deserve something special?

Geechie Wings!! Only the best wings served here!! I had to start with those most delicious wings with a scratch made sauce, nothing compares. I had to take some home as I got the fried chicken plate and needed to safe room for more authentic and locally owned , deliciously created Southern comfort food! I've been here multiple times and am never disappointed with the great atmosphere, superb service and delicious- mouth watering food crafted from family recipes. A+++ And the old school R & B takes me back !

Some of the best soul food in Charleston! I had the fried chicken, collard greens and mac and cheese. All where outstanding. I wish I got the shrimp and grits too. I just saw that Eater had them at the best in Charleston. Fun to have Kool Aid with your meal. Kind of a tradition. I remember my grandfather talking about all you can eat catfish and kool aid in Arkansas. Can't wait to go back!

OMG!!! We drove an hour to eat here and we would do it again. I've been heating about Nigel's Good Food for the past year by alllll the Charleston foodies. So happy this event finally brought us here. Abundant parking in this location. Super simple to find and a little unassuming from the outside. Do NOT let that stop you. I still haven't stopped liking my fingers. I had the 2 piece fried chicken and 2 sides; green beans and red beans&rice. Wowwowow, the flavor! Everything had it and it was all unique. I probably would not have normally ordered green beans as a side. But these may have changed mind! When I come back, I will get both of these sides again. There is a bit of smoked ham hock in the beans so you will catch some smoke, some sweet, and some savory. Just good good food. Thank you so much for setting this up. I want one closer to MtP so come on down, y'all. We need you here

I wish I could give them more stars. First off the staff was amazing. Very courteous. attentive, and all around great. Now for the food.....AMAZING. I can say from the appetizers to the main course to the desert.... yes. I totally recommend Nigel's!!!!!

We've been to Nigel's Good Food before and loved their fried chicken dinner plates. This time, we ordered takeout like usual and service was quick and easy. The hostess taking our order was super friendly and the food was ready in just 15 minutes. I ordered the fried shrimp platter with hushpuppies, collard greens, and potato salad. I LOVE fried shrimp, but I was extremely disappointed by Nigel's fried shrimp. Each piece was super overcooked and rubbery, and the batter was not crispy at all. It tasted like it had been sitting out all day. The hushpuppies also weren't crispy, tasting like the oil had been sucked into the skin of it. Dry on the inside with an oily, soft batter. The collard greens were very good and the potato salad was super flavorful and full of mayonnaise (which is a good thing). My boyfriend ordered the Bam's Gumbo, which was a huge serving of spicy gumbo over white rice. It had shrimp, okra, sausage, and tons of flavorful veggies. The flavor of the gumbo was great, but the shrimp in this dish was also super overcooked and chewy. Not sure if it was just an off day for Nigel's, but I won't get seafood here again. Definitely stick with the fried chicken plates since that's what they seem to do best.

Great experience! I ordered by phone for the Elite Yelp week. The restaurant was packed, but I was able to receive my order and was out the door within seconds. Thank you for the delicious dinner. The fried chicken is seasoned well. Great crispy and juicy ratio.

Food took forever to get but it really tasted great. We all got the fried chicken and it was really tasty and really crispy. Our server was really great as well very good personality.

This quaint spot is definitely a hidden gem the locals dine at. This is my first time dining here and certainly not my last! I enjoyed the shrimp, greens, and yams. I didn't have the option to have the scallops another way since I chose the pick two. I am not fond of fried scallops and the Mac @ Cheese was not hot and a little dry. It's probably better earlier in the day when it's freshly baked. I came in the evening. The service was awesome. Just don't be on a rush because it's takes a while to get your food! I will definitely try this place again, just earlier in the day or carry out.

This was a good find , but not without some issues! I just love this place! I refuse to let little things bother me ! My wife was sad though ! I found this little gem ! As we entered in , they seemed a little overwhelmed! We did get some feedback from the takeout crowd, that the fried pork chops were the bomb! So , I set my sites on the chops! We ordered about 7:15. About 8 pm we were told us the kitchen was backed up . At this 8:30 the waitress said the kitchen didn't get the order! Ok , am honest mistake. My wife was starving though! At 8:40 our meal arrived! My cops were the last order! Lucky me! The green beans, potato salad and collards was good! The scallops were very disappointing! One note : when we arrived the waitress seemed annoyed at me. I love to joke and she appeared to be not into that ! As things unfolded, she became more apologetic! Mistakes after mistakes and we were super understanding! I just couldn't see me getting upset! We were passing through in our RV and because my husband loves fried chicken & greens, I figured there'd be no better place than Charleston. It's located in the Piggly Wiggly Shopping center, but easy to find. Simple unadorned, with a few local art pieces. It was busy when we went, but service was great. Our server, Sierra was awesome! If we were at home, I would definitely try to steal her for our own restaurant. Everything was good, but the Hush Puppies were the best I've had in years! And the Banana Pudding was dreamy... Not much more to say, except If you bypass this place it will be your loss!

I will say the food is great and that fried okra was slap somebody good! Not sure what more I can say the business looked clean and everybody seemed happy.

We were able to get a table for 6 pretty quickly, but it took over an hour to get the food. The fried shrimp with fries and macaroni were good for M. JO had a bleu cheeseburger and macaroni. JA had the 3 fried wings and macaroni. I didn't like the waffles cause they weren't light and fluffy to me and had pieces of sugar in it, which some people might like. The macaroni, collards, and cornbread was just how I like (JO & JA ate most of it). We thought the red rice was too kernelly and not as good as mine. I tasted the fried salmon and it was a lil dry, but my friend had grilled salmon and said it was moist. The service was decent. Someone said this location is a lil bigger than the other one. I would come back here when we come into town.

Visiting for the weekend and decided to try this place out, I am glad I did! Food and service was fantastic. We ordered Mac and cheese, wings, shrimp and grits, and cornbread EVERYTHING was delicious! Definitely recommend checking this place out!

What happened to Nigel's II on Hwy 78. Banana pudding with no bananas. Cornbread like brick and no okra soup.

Truly food that is from and for the soul!! Service was spectacular as well and the vibes are immaculate. 100% recommend!!

Went last night. Good food, decent service. Host sat us quickly. Server wasn't overly friendly but she got our order in.
