"This hidden gem, one of San Diego’s long-running diners, serves Mexican and American dishes starting at 6:30 a.m. and stays open late into the night. Hefty omelets, like the “Garbage,” have everything thrown in while Mario’s surf and turf burrito is another standout." - Helen I. Hwang

Went for lunch with my dad and daughter and it was great! We had to wait a little bit to be seated inside as it was a chilly day out, but was it ever worth it! Between the 3 of us we had the carne asada, shrimp, grilled and fried fish tacos, as well as a breakfast sandwich with freshly shredded hash browns! Besides the food the flight of mimosas was phenomenal. The staff was super friendly and the service was wonderful! Definitely a must try when on Coronado!

Google
Mom and pop breakfast restraunt. Very nice atmosphere. Great 50s music! Good food. Prices are what you would expect for Coronado.

Google
I came for breakfast and the Carne Asada Omelette was a revelation - perfectly cooked, easily the best omelette I've encountered. The staff was incredibly friendly, providing attentive service without being intrusive, and the food came out with impressive speed. Seated at the counter, I watched the cooks work with precision and confidence, clearly refined by years of experience. I'm definitely making this a must-visit spot next time I'm in town.

Google
A small but delicious café in a beautiful neighborhood with delicious food. We stopped here for a late afternoon lunch and had to wait a little while as there's not much seating but the food was great and the staff friendly and courteous. The burritos are huge and the enchilada sauce is really delicious. Really enjoyed it!

VK

Google
We ordered the Coronado burrito and chocolate chip pancake. The burrito was delicious! Easily shareable and the pancake was huge. We would skip the pancake next time but would definitely reorder the burrito.

Hector

Google
What a great find! Is close from NASNI and the food is really good! Sitting by the bar is very comfortable and the cook is attentive and will help out the waitress while she tends to the patio customers. Their menu has a bit for everyone to enjoy and seeing it being made in front of you adds to the experience

Google
If you havent made it to this place do it soon rather than later. All the good is good. The service is amazing. The cooks are dope. It felt like i was receiving a home cook meal from someone's house, food cooked with that kinda of heart is a gem. For my gather and i, it was under 50.00

Beatris Gomez

Google
10/10 recommend this place! We had an American breakfast and Chilaquiles. I’d definitely pass on the American breakfast next time but I will be back for the Chilaquiles. They were DELICIOUS! Also, staff is so friendly and professional. Great experience

Yelp
Homestyle breakfast found in beautiful sunny Coronado. I've walked by this restraunt for awhile the line kept me away. Today we waited about an hour, went next door for coffee as we waited. Once called we were seated outside besides a counter inside this is all they have. That would explain the long wait times. So many people coming you can tell no one minds at all. The food !!! I loved the hashbrowns they topped most of the ones I've tried to date. Not greasy at all super crispy and salted to perfection. Not to crazy about my eggs today. The soft giant buttermilk pancake made up for it. The burrito was stuffed with so much egg that was a nice surprise. No short cuts at this place. They are legit and serve you with the biggest smiles. Beautiful way to start off our Sunday.

John S.

Yelp
The good: The seating and service were fast, the coffee was excellent, and my over-medium eggs were perfect. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed. The bad: I sat in front of the grill and saw a big bowl of pre-cooked bacon on a shelf. The cook would take some and throw it on the grill as needed. You can precook in prep for a rush, but you have to keep it at 140°. Room temperature is a food safety problem. My hash browns were cooked under a grill press. They were served super crispy on one side but cold and mushy on the other. Lose the grill press and flip them once on the grill before serving.

Ruth M.

Yelp
Our server Josh was amazing! The food was delicious! Their chilaquiles were a 10/10! The pancakes are huge-- enough to share-- and our kids loved them! Dad and I definitely enjoyed the mimosa flight! Everyone was so nice and accommodating. The hostess and bussers were also so friendly! Checking in on us multiple times to ensure we were enjoying our food. It's difficult going out with 5 kids because places usually don't enjoy serving us but the entire staff made all the kids feel welcome! Would definitely recommend this place! Make sure to ask for Josh!

Paige K.

Yelp
Probably a 3.5 but I'll round up, the service was quick and friendly. I sat alone at the bar right after open. Double edged sword that you can watch the food being made haha no gross handling or anything but you do see how much butter goes into everything! I ordered the carne omelette with egg whites and no cheese. Twas tasty. Good portion. Nothing to write home about but I enjoyed it. Hashbrowns were super good, nice and crispy. I upped my bread side to a single pancake... holy cow! They weren't kidding about the size, it was huge! Good texture but a pretty basic pancake. Again nothing I would rush back for but all solid for a quick breakfast.

Deonna R.

Yelp
I visited this restaurant for the first time last week and fell in love. As so as I walked in I was greeted by a waiter Joshua and he was so kind! We had a small conversation before he threw out some of his popular dishes. I ended up ordering the American breakfast I believe with hash browns, eggs and carne asada with French toast on the side. The French toast was my favorite, so soft and sweet. I sat at the bar and was able to watch the cooks prepare the meals. Every thing about this place is a vibe, I will definitely return soon!

Sergio A.

Yelp
This place is a must try and guaranteed you will be back every time. Awesome up close diner with great staff and delicious food.

Eva G.

Yelp
Always looking to try out new places. I was in the area enjoying a pleasant walk and found this place. It was busy by the time I walked over. Must be a popular spot as it was about a 20 minute wait. I went ahead and ordered a Coronado Burrito- Bacon, hash browns, scrambled eggs, Jack cheddar cheese, and avocado It was a huge burrito! Delicious too especially with the green sauce! Definitely sharable and I had a half of a burrito left over. Come try this place out!!!

Jonathan W.

Yelp
I've been going to Coronado multiple times a year and never noticed this spot until this weekend! Then again, I'm not usually looked for a meal at midnight. Their food hit the spot. Loved that they had a wide range of options including breakfast, traditional diner food plus my favorite, tacos! Great service and fun old school diner vibes.

Ailin J.

Yelp
Burrito portion is HUGE!!!!! Staff was very friendly and the burrito was two meals worth. Great location blocks away from the beach and they are open early for breakfast.

Sarah T.

Yelp
The last time I ate at Night & Day Cafe was about 2008 and it makes my heart so happy that they are still open and thriving. I try to get there every visit to San Diego but it's not always possible. I had the best omelette of my life there! It was the California omelette and it was prepared in front of me by a young woman full of sarcasm and wittiness. She was awesome! I've tried ti replicate her omelette so many times myself and in restaurants but nothing compares. I love being able to eat at the bar and converse with the incredible and talented people that they have working there, not only cooking your food but serving you as well. The decor is very cool, funky and represents Coronado, California perfectly. I cannot wait to go back. It will be odd not being able to go there anytime day or night. Covid ruins everything

Arjay U.

Yelp
Great place for quick bite and affordable for Coronado standard Food was delicious and tasty - all made to order Service is friendly and fast and accommodating Ambiance is a hole in a wall - but it's clean and organized

Lance C.

Yelp
Night and Day Café on Coronado Island is a must-visit! We had both the California and Carne Asada burritos, and they were simply delicious--packed with fresh ingredients and bursting with flavor. The freshly-made tortilla chips were another highlight, perfectly crispy and a great complement to our meal. A big shoutout to our server, Josh, who provided exceptional service! He was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. It's rare to find such a welcoming atmosphere paired with outstanding food. If you're looking for amazing food and outstanding service, Night & Day Café is the place to go. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Where to start? I thought I'd give this place a try. I will NOT BE COMING HERE EVER AGAIN. This is WHITE WASHED MEXICAN ATTEMPTED. Look how there is no cheese on the quesadillas. This is a disgrace to actual Mexican food. A disgrace. The service was slow af and the guy who answered the phone hung up on me when I went to ensure my order was right. When I got there the man was speaking with some women and completely ignored me. I'm never ever wasting my $ here again.

Shellymarie L.

Yelp
Everything went well! Fast and attentive service. The pancakes were amazing and HUGE! I came in for coffee and sundae and wished I were more hungry, because everyone's food around me looked amazing!

Ben Y.

Yelp
Amazing service and food! Best burrito in the history of the world. I wish I lived closer, a must try!

Yelp
I found small brunch Mexican American restaurant near our hotel. I saw this place on Thur night after my wife and I checked in our hotel on Orange Ave. Looked so viral, cozy w so many people were that night. We are right!!! Once we sat at the bar table, already felt so viral, energy, comfy. The kitchen is at the bar. I see the chefs cook, flame, yummy smell....etc. We noticed the popular dishes were burritos, tacos, and pancakes. We ordered 2 street taco w asada Carne, 2 beer battered fish tacos. Personally I liked the fish tacos, 5 stars!! They put some guacamole in the tacos. So tasty!! Fresh cooked in front of us....we really enjoyed watching the chefs. The space is not big but you sit at the bar, interact w server and chefs. Cool!!! Next time we really want to try pancakes. Looks good to us. We had a great time for the early taco lunch. Definitely come again next vacation time.

Jeesoun S.

Yelp
My hubby found Mexican American café near our hotel. They open so early and close late 2 a.m. on Friday. The inside dining area is only the bar, not big. You can see the chef cooks in the kitchen. So we had a chance to talk to the chef and server as well like Japanese sushi bar. I searched for the quick reviews on Yelp. Most of popular menu has pancakes, tacos, and burritos. I ordered 2 street tacos w asada carne, 2 battered fish tacos w my hubby's draft beers. First, smells so good. The chef grilled the meats fresh, made tacos. The beer was so chilly. It finally helps my appetite to bite my first fish taco. So tasty, I feel the sauce blends the battered fish together w salsa. For the street taco, they add the chunky meats w guacamole, onions. So good!! Especially they used real yellow corn tortillas. One more thing, they have t shirts, hoodies on the rack of the wall. I didn't check the items in detail but it will be a nice gift from Coronado Island. The ambiance is viral, I can feel so much energy at the bar. My hubby wanted to come again to taste their popular burrito. Location: on the Orange Ave Space; inside is not big but they have some patio area Price: reasonable Quality: 5 stars Service: 5 stars For the tip, if you check in on Yelp, you will get 10% discount.

Mark B.

Yelp
ITS NIGHT AND DAY CAFE BABY! This place has the best breakfast burrito in Coronado and IB.

Valerie A.

Yelp
This place was small but they have outside seating. One of the waiters said they will be expanding soon. Sitting inside at the counter is fun and entertaining to watch the food being made. The staff are nice and constantly check in to make sure you are enjoying your food. So delicious we will be back. Highly recommend!

Doug C.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic hidden gem for Mexican food ... Alejandro was an attentive host and the homemade chips, salsa and guacamole was a stellar lead-in to two giant burritos stuffed with delicious carne asada - one of them California style with French fries. Plus, the house margaritas were delicious and strong! We are planning to return to Coronado and Night and Day will be on our must eat list!

LeRoy W.

Yelp
Tried to go but they're under construction. Call ahead to make sure they're open and can seat your group. I don't want to leave an bad review because we never got to experience the cafe

Lida D.

Yelp
If you are looking for elevated comfort food, this is the place to go!! Service was great but chill! Do not go here if you are not on island time! The egg white carne asada omelet with avocado was simply perfect after 2 hours of tennis & 3 hours more to go!! A serious burger also arrived with sweet potato fries ... how can you go wrong?? All in all - totally blows "C" next door out of the water!! Well done N&D Cafe!!

Tom L.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast/lunch. Overall food was solid, the server was very nice and attentive. For a smaller place it felt very homey. I ordered the California Burrito which was excellent. I would suggest if you do order this to also ask for a side of Tomatillo sauce to go along with the enchilada sauce they put on it.

Charlon C.

Yelp
Parking: There's street parking which is good and if you can't find any then there's parking down the block where a CVS is located. Service: The service is always A1 and great. It gets busy at times, but they always take time to check up on you which is great. Food: I ordered Hector's Omelette and upgraded it to have french toast instead of toast. This have been my go-to for some years now and I can't look back honestly. I'm thankful for the person that made this upgrade possible! Ambiance: Ambiance is very welcoming. It has a diner-esque type environment to where when you order your meal, you can see the chefs making it on the grill in front of you. Something about that to me, makes me appreciate the food being made more and appreciating the chefs for what they do. There's TV's in there that play family friendly videos or news to where you can choose what you want to watch if your face isn't too focused on your plate. Opportunities: Only one I can think of is for outside seating where you pay there's a bit of a slant to where the table rocks. Not sure if they're going to spend money to do construction on that to fix it, and I honestly don't expect them to. That's one table amongst all the places where people sit and eat... Not really a big issue. Overall: I've been introduced to this place by a brother of mine in 2018 and 5 years later I'm still going here! I even have a sweatshirt from here also and I'm sure I'd buy more items from there too! This is my favorite go-to breakfast spot in Coronado. 5/5

Jack0202 S.

Yelp
Never disappointed with the food! Not a five because environment/ambience could be better. Though I personally love it, I don't think the ambience will check the box as a 5/5 for everyone. Thinking of some of my family and friends. Service is also a not a 5/5 imo, relative to other places I've been. It's very good, but I would be lying to say best one can find.

Frank N.

Yelp
Since 1929 , same range hood as the Hearst Castle! Excellent place to order a straight out delicious breakfast, a seat at the counter is like the Mexican Version of Benihanas !! Quite the cooking show ! The lead Cook/Chef Luis G and team worked so hard to cook the best breakfast in Coronado/ San Diego. There is something for everyone plus a great Mexican food accompaniment!!! The servers were extremely friendly and efficient. Our food starting at the top of the menu was the California Omelette, bacon, cheese wrapped the egg blanket and a huge helping of grilled has browns. The single buttermilk pancake was rim to rim large and delicious. My wife had the American breakfast with two eggs sausage and grilled toast. There's no toaster here. Very old school cooking style and the Rock music pumping creates a nice Tiempo. Great job to the Day & Night team! We'll be Back !

Anne H.

Yelp
For the many many years I've been going to Coronado, I've never been to this establishment. A lot of times it's closed, maybe already eaten or it's so busy. Finally came for an early dinner early in the week and decided to try it and yum. This place is literally a hole in the wall, if they didn't have outside seating, it is just a counter inside. The server was really nice and since we sat inside, we watched the cook making it all. Let's just say, it is a special breed to be a short order cook. I highly recommend getting the surf and turf. It was delicious and way to bring for one person, but I really wanted to try. (I ended up taking half of it home and my daughter devoured it), but the best part of the burrito was the jalapeño sauce. I'm pretty sure I could have drank and cup of it or just eaten it with tortilla chips. We'll be back and maybe try the nachos and then walk the whole island after.

Laura A.

Yelp
Seriously the best breakfast spot on the island (sorry Claytons lol), the food is so good and their portions are so big it's definitely worth the price. They're usually pretty busy but if you sit inside you'll see how fast those cooks move to get your food out fast. The place is a little small but they have outdoor seating and a long bar top. They play good music and it's super cute, overall good experience

Joyce F.

Yelp
amazing! friends suggested this place and i'm glad they did. shared a burrito and it was perfect for two. so delish! we sat at the bar so i was able to see all the food being made. will be back.

Nicole B.

Yelp
We were out on Coronado today to see Hotel Del and some of the other sights, and needed a quick(ish) place to stop in for lunch. This restaurant was able to accommodate our group of 8, and while there was a little wait, the food was well worth it. Excellent food, can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Great service, very friendly and efficient staff. Would definitely stop in again to try some more of the menu!

Gerardo G.

Yelp
The service is impeccable. Alejandro is very friendly and puts everyone at ease. The cooks are very professional and it is a treat to see them prepare your order in front of you. The servings are very generous. A true gem of Coronado.

Zach H.

Yelp
I had the California omelet and was quite pleased. It was filling and tasted great. The salsas that came with were both good. Service was fast and friendly. Chairs on the street were just fine and the umbrellas provided enough shade.

Maira C.

Yelp
I had an emergency pee break, the gentlemen let me use their restroom, he is a lifesaver!!!! Great service lol thank you!!!

Melissa B.

Yelp
Delicious food. I had the turkey sandwich with avocado and a michelada. Sat outside in a trendy street near the beach. Phenomenal service. Would def recommend to family & friends!

Megan H.

Yelp
Food was delicious, and our server was perfect! Casandra did such a great job, and was very accommodating to our family! My 3 little kids enjoyed their pancakes and outdoor dining. We will for sure be adding this to one of our Coronado spots for the summer.

Amber Kay L.

Yelp
This place was sooo good! Good quality food- simple and delicious. You can taste all the flavors! Our service was great. Perfect breakfast spot before going on a nice walk.

Andrew K.

Yelp
The nicest and most pleasant staff ever! Accommodated our family of four (two young kids) with amazing service. Food was great too! Will definitely be back!

Cristian O.

Yelp
I came to this place based on the excellent reviews, and I gotta say I was very disappointed. I had the California burrito and the wife had a few fish tacos. Her tacos were okay, but nothing to write home about or come back for. My burrito was bland and tasteless. The enchilada sauce that came with it did nothing to make it better. Service was okay, but we got no refills on our drinks or attention. They are a busy place and are in great location for visitors. Parking, or lack of parking doesn't help either.

Dave T.

Yelp
My brother and I sat at the counter for breakfast. He had a omelette and I had biscuits and gravy. Both were prepared very quickly and with quality products. My gravy was a bit lacking but the flavor of the meal with sausage patties & hash browns were very good. The hash browns appeared to be fresh cooked not frozen. We both ate the entire plate full Of food. Delicious! I think the meals were a little pricey and the cooks require a $5 tip plus we had to tip the servers too. It was our most expensive breakfast but also the most entertaining and tasty.

john h.

Yelp
Another great experience at Night and Day Cafe... you must try the bacon on everything it's the best ! Chef Artuor always delivers the best service and the unique ambiance is treasure for Coronado Island

Roya J.

Yelp
Great little spot for breakfast/brunch. It's a small space where they cook the food right in front of you. The food was simple, but well prepared and large portions. It appeared to be family owned and the wait staff and cooks were polite and friendly. They were constantly moving, taking care of everyone. All I needed to do was ask and my coffee mug was refilled with a smile. Due to the limited space there may be a wait, but I like that it's so different than all the other spots in the area.

Sarah J.

Yelp
Excellent again today! Returned after a few years to find it's still great! Sat at the counter and saw the magic happen at the grill. Coffee, American breakfast, blueberry pancake, Denver omelette- all super tasty for our group. Hash browns here are best ever. Service was attentive and very friendly. Definitely come here for a diner style breakfast that never disappoints.

Nichelle E.

Yelp
The staff was very friendly. The food was great. Big portions. The outdoor seating was nice. Preferred sitting table top inside. Will definitely be back when in the area.

Chee Keat F.

Yelp
This place has limited seating and there was a waitlist, which you could skip if you order to-go. As this place was packed during lunchtime on a Saturday, that's what I did. Ordered the California Burrito. You're offered the burrito with or without the sauces on top. The sauces were great and the burrito was delicious! This thing it's huge, and it took a while to get through the whole thing with a plastic knife and fork. They offer discounts for military personnel.

Chett D.

Yelp
We were recommended to visit this restaurant from fellow campers as an excellent restaurant for quality of food, service, and value. Our first visit yesterday we had the opportunity to meet Arturo which was managing a full crowd by himself and delivering delicious food in a timing manner. Our second visit was 24 hours later with the same Arturo handling the business and the same delicious food. Don't forget to enjoy this experience during happy hour to add more value to your dining experience. Thank you and we will make this a regular spot to visit when we are in the San Diego area every time.

Jessica C.

Yelp
I think my first stop here was in 2009. I thought it was delicious but I could never remember where in Coronado I had that bomb BLT. I think I then came in 2012 after a concert while house sitting on the island. Again, had a fabulous time but didn't come back until I met my husband. This is his favorite spot. Even when we lived in Louisiana so every visit I would grab a ton of burritos. I will say if you ever need a place to eat but you aren't sure what you want? COME ON IN. They have SOLID Mexican, fantastic breakfast, and quintessential diner fare. It is a win win win! My last time in I got a breakfast sandwich and shrimp taco.

chris d.

Yelp
Decided to spend the afternoon on Coronado on our vacation to San Diego. Stopped in on Tuesday afternoon around 5:15. The young lady who waited on us said we missed Happy Hour by about 15 minutes when asked. She didn't prompt us but we asked about Taco Tuesday and she said yes it was. They have great specials on tacos on Tuesday. Unfortunately they were out of their only Mexican beer on tap and only have a few handles but then things went crazy in a good way. Enter Arturo! He come bounding into the kitchen wishing us a "happy Tuesday". We order our tacos and watch him from our seats at the counter perform his culinary magic. These were plentiful, beautiful and vert tasty tacos. In fact, we had to order a second round. Hats off to Arturo and his love for making great food!!!!

Grant C.

Yelp
Service was great. Friendly and prompt. The food options are great, almost too many, almost. I ordered the surf and turf. It was excellent. The setting is casual with a small beach town feel.

M S.

Yelp
What a great little restaurant. They have a counter inside, or tables outside. We sat at the counter because it was getting cool outside. I had the Monte Cristo sandwich with fries. My wife had tacos, one fish, one shrimp. Both meals were excellent! The service was great also. We will definitely be going back!
