Nighthawk Review - Albany Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Situated at the very end of the Brown Line, right off the Kimball stop, Nighthawk has a distinct atmosphere: dive bar meets commuter cafe. It’s the type of coffee shop/bar hybrid we love, because unlike other all-day cafes scattered throughout the city, it feels like a bar here whether it’s 10am or 10pm. Big booths provide plenty of space to work, and there are enough outlets for everyone to keep their laptops charged. The coffee menu includes espresso drinks and cold brew, they’ve got a fairly long list of cocktails and craft beers available all day, and you can get a can of Hamm’s for $2.50." - Josh Barnett

A fun ride especially when going over the water, it did malfunctioned for a short while but was running again soon. It does draw alot of attention so wait time can go to 30min close to an hour as it is only one train/cars doing the runs.

Fun ride but the fact that the top chest restraint is only held together with what is basically a seat belt was a little unnerving, especially when you are hanging below the train in the flying position.

This is the most Underrated roller coaster I've ever ridden. It seems like everybody says this ride is rough and uncomfortable, but I found it to be awesome! If you want to secure a ride on this ride get here first thing when the park opens so you don't have to stand in a long line; the operations on this ride are very slow and it can attract a very long line most days. It also tends to break down a lot. The ride experience was surprising! The flying position is so cool, and something that you can't find very often. The forces on the vertical loop is wild! The corkscrews at are very disorienting. Overall a great and crazy underrated coaster

Nighthawk is probably my least favorite roller coaster in the country. The line in the sun moves slowly. The seating is uncomfortable, and the coaster's somewhat rough ride doesn't do it any favors. And once the ride is over you have to stare up at the sun until the slow ride operators decide to let you off. Nighthawk definitely has its fans. I'm more spoiled by more modern flying coasters such as Manta and Superman, and even those rides aren't my favorites in the parks they're in. I prefer to sit down over lay down on a coaster. A crappier version of a ride concept that I'm already iffy on is just not fun to me. If you like flying coasters, intense rides, and even rides that can be rough, you will likely adore Nighthawk. That's why I'm giving it 3 stars instead of one, because I recognize that this ride isn't worthless and can be enjoyed by the right people. And even for me personally, I like the ride being around because it's just so beautiful. The yellow track and blue supports pop amazingly, and the trees and water around the ride make it undoubtedly the prettiest coaster in the park, and I don't mind it sticking around. It's a one of a kind ride, and ultimately a historic one as one of the first flying coasters. If this ride gets more maintenance to make it smoother, new trains to make it more comfortable, and an awning over the brake run to block out the sun, I think I could learn to love Nighthawk.

I have done every coaster in the park and several rides like Ripcord, Air Racers, Windseeker, etc. but this is the only one that truly terrified me and made me scream. Laying down and staring straight up is the scariest position for me. When it turns around and you face the ground, I actually screamed out of fear. Something I never do, but I was like that for the whole ride. It's a bit rough but nothing I felt after riding. I would definitely do it again, I loved how terrifying it was. Also I would say that I personally would not ride it if the line gets long, which it does quite often, and if you ever see the line on the app at 30 minutes or shorter, take that opportunity to ride it.

Awesome ride, I thought nothing would beat my experience of superman ride at 6 flags, New Jersey. Fast spins while suspended on the coaster. This ride is for the aderlin junkies.

Carowinds.. this rollercoaster is the craziest that I did in my life ! First, it's backwards and second, you are laying on your back. It's just crazy !!!

This is what happens when theory and ambition do not gel well with practice. This is a dreadful rollercoaster. The queue is too long, the access on/off is needlessly long and the turnover is so slow. The ride itself is atrocious. Uncomfortable (to the point of dangerous) seating means you are tucked in rather than feeling secure, and the lack of safety checks do. It inspire confidence. Then you move, backwards and upside down and left to stare up at the sun. Once the ride clears the first drop, it becomes a shuddering, uncomfortable groaning, shrieking mess. The dynamics and velocity have not been worked out well for this. You end up feeling nauseous and with a sore neck. Any enjoyment or thrill os just ruined. If you go to Carowinds, avoid this one, or at least don’t do it first!

Yelp
I hated Batwing at Six Flags America, the same thing. Have you ever felt like you have a stomach bug and headache? The vertical loop was so bumpy, I hit my head so hard against the seat, my body was numb. My guardian even cussed because it was so bad. The operations were like 7min per dispatch. CRAZY! Never riding the again. You'll find me at Fury 325 instead.

Yelp
One of the worst rides of the park as it takes 5 minutes to load people on and off which makes the line slow. It is a flying coaster and not as good as the B&M for sure, but for Vekoma as those are becoming extinct. This is probably the worst flying coaster I have been on as I got sick and a big headache and did it for the credit. Looks nice, but really will give you a headache at the end.

Yelp
NightHawk has been a staple thrill ride at Carowinds for 15 years now. Added to the park in 2004 as the black and green "Borg Assimilator" the current name and color scheme has been around since about 2008. One of the first rides you see upon entering the park, it may not be as tall as some of its newer siblings but don't let that discourage you from taking a ride. NightHawk is a fast, fun coaster with a unique seating design you can't find at a lot of parks. It's a "flying" coaster, meaning that during the actual ride you're laying down horizontally, held in by a 4-point harness across your chest and an elaborate lap bar for your legs. You actually load into the cart in a seated position, but once the train is locked you tilt downwards and go up the lift hill lying on your back! At the top of the hill you slowly turn and right as you approach the first drop you flip over onto your stomach and the fun begins. There is only one big loop but there are 3 or 4 other smoother inversions. 51 mph may not sound super fast for a steel roller coaster but I assure you the ride design makes up for it. The way the harness is set up on this one you don't really have much to hold onto so I tend to just go arms out and pretend I'm flying around like I'm Superman. Most of the track is over a pond too, so its kind of neat to be soaring over the water like that. All in all a great ride. There are only about 20 flying coasters in operation around the world so if you have the opportunity to get down to Carowinds be sure to give this one a try. (If you visit in the fall this is also in my opinion one of the best rides to go on at night during Scarowinds!)
