Best Rooftop Bars in the Triangle | Eater Carolinas

"Heaters pumping in the winter and ceiling fans on blast in the summer — whatever the weather, this rooftop is ready to go. The self-proclaimed “maximalist” decor provides abundant opportunities for a clutch Instagram snap. If just drinking cocktails isn’t enough to scratch the itch, a cocktail club meets every third Thursday of the month. It’s an excuse to dress up, listen to live jazz, and sip cocktails while getting schooled in drink-making techniques." - Elliott Harrell

We visited this place to celebrate a friend's birthday. We had a reservation but, as soon as we arrived the hostess seem not to have the table ready or something was going on, asked us to wait. Once she got back informed us that if we wanted to bring our own cake we had to pay 4 dls a person (our group was 4 people), we didn't understand this policy, since a month before a friend from the group bought a cake celebrating other friend's bday and there was no charge. Regarding food choices are limited, I had the ribs which were good. Drinks are good and trendy. I had the sangria the flavor is different than other sangrias I have had.

Seeing some of the latest reviews I was worried how it is going to be but everything was top notch. I have been there with my girl gang of 9 for dinner and everybody loved their food except their shrimp and grits which was very bland. So the following weekend I took my family for brunch and it was amazing. My husband loved their Risotto. The drinks are great, ambience is lovely, the service is amazing! I would highly recommend this place to try.

Google
Went for a Friday dinner, had a reservation. The staff were friendly, greeted us, offered to give us a preferred table with a few mins wait at the bar. The drinks although limited options with beers are good. The food experience fell flat for us, the Brussels Sprouts were good, the gnocchi bravas didnt appeal and the olive oil cake was very dense. Overall it was a decent experience and would give this place another try when they change the menu.

During our wedding weekend in April 2025 we had a blast hosting a two part event at Nightingale for our family welcome reception in the Emerald Room then a friend reception on the patio afterwards. Sarah was great to work with through this process! In the Emerald Room we hosted 50 people and had charcuterie platters, 3 hors d’oeuvres, kids food, and private cash bar. Food was incredible and there was more than enough space. The bench seating along the side was a nice touch so we could have a cocktail style event but there was still a place to sit. She also helped us make a normal reservation on the patio for us to host 20-30 friends afterward. We had an open space with some casual couch seating and easy access to the main bar area. We received lots of compliments and great feedback from family and friends the rest of the weekend on how fun their Nightingale experience was. Thank you Sarah and team for helping us throw this event!

Google
Food - 9/10 (best hummus I've ever had. Focaccia bread and dip, as well as the Whipped Feta were all stars too!) Drinks - 8/10 good cocktail selection and drinks were as expected. No standouts, but everything was very good. Service - 10/10 the little blonde girl was so adorable and genuinely just on point. Atmosphere - 10/10 it's a cute place.

Google
I love everything about this place. I love the service, the ambience, the food - pretty much anything I can think of. My favorite is when I get a balcony seat right at the edge of the rooftop, though there is no "bad" seat per se. Their Brussels sprouts options are always fantastic, and - when available - the lions mane mushroom dip knocks my socks off. The seasonal rotation of menu also means you can keep coming back and get something new, but there is interwoven enough similarities or variations on Mainstays that you can be confident something you like is there. For instance, they always have a focaccia that is great - but what you dip it in or put on top can rotate. Also, they often have amazing mocktails. I don't drink, but I appreciate fake drinks a lot so that I can feel like part of the party.

Google
Went for a girls brunch and everything was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. The porch was so cute and the server was kind. The drinks were also amazing. We were surprised but grateful that it wasnt super busy for a beautiful sunday morning. Only complaint was the music was a bit loud but it seemed to get quieter towards the end of our meal. 10/10 will go again and have already recommended it to several friends.

Google
The food was good and I'll admit the ostrich burger was very good. That said, it feels like this place is far better suited to be a nightclub but they are trying to be a restaurant. And while the rooftop is a nice feature, the view is of the parking deck and garbage dumpsters of the building across the street. The hostesses were kind as we arrived and we were seated quickly (tho the place was 3/4 empty)... The wait staff leaves a lot to be desired. Mostly very young staff with (what appeared to be) minimal experience. Overall, it may be better suited to a younger crowd who cares less for some of these things and just want to be seen "at the rooftop place". Good luck guys, it's just not our thing.

Yelp
Great cocktails-- nice atmosphere and good service. Food is solid but not amazing. Will go back.

Yelp
We were seated outside on a high top table. Chairs were comfortable, but table had not been wiped. Unfortunately I found this out too late before my hand was full of something sticky. Service was slow and when the waitress arrived she poured water and I asked for a rag to clean the table. She came back and wiped just in front of me rather than the whole table. She then left and said she would return for our order. Service was slow, but she did return and we ordered martinis. In addition, we ordered 4 appetizers. Drinks arrived and then our food shortly after. No plates, no napkins, no silverware. We waited and then asked the next waitress who brought us silverware but no plates. I guess they figured with just appetizers we didn't need plates. The crab dip was served with Ritz crackers for $14, whipped feta was just okay, sweet potato gnocchi (which was mushy and not flavorful), and wings which were borderline cold. Still the wings were tasty. Server never returned to our table to check on our food, but eventually showed up and asked if we needed more drinks. Didn't bother to pick up any of the dishes and then left for 20 minutes. I finally asked another waitress if we could get our check which she did. This place has potential, but unless they up their service game, and improve their menu it's unlikely to survive. I mean we had 4 appetizers and two drinks with tip for $100. I wouldn't have minded if the food and service were on point, but both fell far short of expectations. My advice---train your staff, revise your menu, and for goodness sakes present a clean table with napkins, silverware, and small plates to start.

Yelp
The atmosphere and décor are so much fun -- such a great vibe! The food is fantastic; we especially loved the feta whip and the shrimp and grits. It's also nice that the menu changes, keeping things fresh and interesting. We're super excited to finally have a rooftop bar in downtown Holly Springs! The only downside is the service. We've been a few times, and each visit the service has been less than stellar. Hopefully, they can work on that, because everything else about this place is really great.

Yelp
I visited Nightingale on a Thursday evening. The parking here is free and effortless, the staff provided a warm and welcoming demeanor when I arrived. The ambiance here is lovely. Nice chic decor and a nice rooftop for cooler evenings. The patio has doors that remain open so the temperature inside was unbearable for me. Someone who does not have a good relationship with heat should not dine here in the heavy hot months. It was difficult to get cool. They don't serve anything in copper cups and there are not any frozen drink offerings. I ordered the crab dip. It was okay. Probably not the best option to go for here. I tried the focaccia which was very good. The Peruvian salmon was really good on the flavor. The rice was extremely overcooked (mushy) as if it had also been sitting. The carrots were pretty good. All of the food was lukewarm. I enjoyed the Queen's Park Swizzle as a refreshing and somewhat cold with plenty of ice. I recommend Nightingale if it's convenient for you. Nightingale is decent place for craft cocktails. I would not recommend on the food alone based on my experience.

Alise L.

Yelp
Nightingale is a very unique restaurant. The food tastes amazing and is full of flavor. The menu is limited and unconventional so it's the type of place you have to be willing to try new things or trust that it will taste good. The staff were friendly and attentive. The restaurant is a little hard to find because you have to go to the main lobby to go up the stairs or elevator. The restaurant is pretty large and there's a nice outdoor area that's covered.

Yelp
Overall, had a great experience, the vibe was set from the start. Great service paired with fantastic food made for a wonderful night.
google avatar

Emily T.

Yelp
Really slow service. I felt bad for the waiter as it seems like he was the only one working and was a bit behind. We were late to our event because food took forever and getting the check took a long time. The food was pricey for what is was. I think it a cute restaurant but they really need to get the timing better to make it a better experience.

Yelp
Beautiful setting to enjoy a delicious menu. Great ambience to enjoy a dinner with friends or a date. The booths are comfortable and the bar is shaking up some amazing cocktails. Open 4pm Wed-Sun, enter the main lobby downtown Holly Springs and head up to the 3rd floor. The restaurant offers dining tables and roof top bar. Reservations taken online and the menu changes seasonally. Cheers!

Yelp
Such a cute place! Yummy food and delicious drinks. Indoor and outdoor seating. Highly recommend.

Yelp
I'm just going to throw out there that I'm smitten! Nightingale is a beautiful space, with great food (love the gnocchi, pork belly, and cocktail eggs), and great service (thank you Brian and Sarah). The cocktails are tasty to boot. When I heard that my round 1 cocktail choice was batch, I was worried-- but fret not, it was delicious! (Sorry I can't remember the name-- vodka, elderflower, pineapple) Hubs' "Grizzly Bear" was great and my subsequent "Ruby Cup" was magnificent also! Hubs and I stopped by to check out the scene and to see what's what. We were not disappointed in the least. In all honesty, Nightingale made fans out of us. On our visit, we were told that Nightingale was featuring live music on the patio for the first time -- keep that up! It was a welcomed addition to the ambiance and experience. Sarah was so kind to show us around, and the event space is fantastic as well. All that to say-- Nightingale is the kitty's titties and I'll be back soon! Cheers!

Yelp
LOVE the ambiance! Great date night location. Delicious food and cocktails~amazing service

Yelp
Awesome vibe, awesome drinks. Good food except the fries were cold and they forgot to bring out replacements. Service was quite good as well

Yelp
Finally made my way to Nightingale! Such a great addition to downtown. Located on the 3rd floor, the rooftop is a great hangout space with a cool vibe. Sunday was a slow day but told it's the "regulars" day :) The decor and ambiance is great. Loved all the details, from the fun wallpaper, cool bar countertops and menu! I'm told they change the menu periodically. Lots of seating including rooftop seating. I loved the indoor/outdoor bar space. The bartenders were attentive and offered great drink recommendations. It's a great place to meet friends and enjoy some small plates.
google avatar

Jan R.

Yelp
You can only order a drink they already have on the menu. I wanted a vodka & soda with a splash of soda & they wouldn't do it. I have a big group of friends & none of us will go back. Waste of a nice rooftop.

Yelp
We had been looking forward to this place for months. Finally got around to making reservations for two as the crowd had seemed to die down a little. We went on a Wednesday at 5pm. We got right in and sat at a table. Right off the bat I noticed the bartenders talking very loud to themselves and using swear words, joking around. We ordered 3 cocktails all of which were not very good. It was about 80% ice compared to liquid. The cocktails were $12 and up. We ordered a few small plates; cocktail eggs, risotto and chicken, corn fritters and cheese and crackers. The 3 cocktail eggs were very small and came with chipotle sauce with a few pickled onions. The cocktail eggs $6.50-$7, you could make these at your home for less than half the cost, these were very over priced and gone in just one bite. The risotto and chicken was by far the best item of the night. The chicken was perfectly smoked and had lots of flavor. The corn fritters were good as well, but isn't anything that is fried? The crackers and cheese tasted like black licorice to me. Not very good. A positive note: the food came out super quick. The server was not very attentive throughout our experience, she checked in on us once in an hour. It did not seem to be overly crowded. Overall, for two people our bill was $96. Not worth the money what so ever. I much prefer Pimento Tea Room to Nightingale and these are the same owners. I would not recommend and do not plan on coming back.

Yelp
enjoyed are dinner last night with friends, shrimp and grits was out of this world. Gnocchi apps was delicious. Overall a great evening. Will be back for sure.
google avatar

Anita S.

Yelp
Great ambiance with tasty drinks and dessert! It is a nice place to hang out with friends and bring out of town guests
google avatar

Emily S.

Yelp
Came with a large group of 9 for a birthday celebration. Had reservations, as they don't have many larger table areas. I did notice they had a private/party room in the back though which was beautifully decorated. The whole place is beautifully decorated with a retro vibe. It's definitely cocktail forward, so come for the liquor vs beer. They have Prosecco 'on tap' as well. We got an array of small plates and all were very good. My favorite was the gnocchi on their March menu. Espresso martini wasn't too sweet nor too bitter. It was excellent. Also ordered a lemon drop martini which was good. Friend ordered the Ruby Cup which was too gingery. Great for a special evening out.

Yelp
The ambience at Nightingale Rooftop is nothing short of enchanting. The eclectic wallpaper serves as a captivating backdrop for an evening of indulgence, setting the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. Whether you're seeking a romantic rendezvous or a lively gathering with friends, this restaurant offers the perfect ambiance to suit any occasion. As for the culinary delights, Nightingale truly shines in its offering of small plates bursting with flavor. Each dish is a masterpiece in its own right, meticulously crafted to tantalize the taste buds and ignite the senses. The menu boasts a diverse selection sure to please even the most discerning palate. Standout dishes include the Ostrich Sliders, and arugula salad. We had a great evening and the service was great. The cocktails weren't excessively memorable but the food, ambiance, and service are great reasons for us to return
google avatar

Racquel H.

Yelp
They make a mean Last Word cocktail. Much appreciated to have it available in this area!
google avatar

Stephanie J.

Yelp
I am usually not a fan of rooftop spots but Nightingale in Downtown Holly Springs is a must visit. My husband and I dined in for their soft opening. The vibes are the same as the Pimiento Tea Room with all of the interesting wallpaper. We both tried two cocktails, it was the gimlet and dripping with emeralds for me and the young buck and cleopatra julep for him. It is a tapas spot so for food we split the ostrich sliders, crab cakes, pumpkin soup, whipped feta, croquettes and gnocchi bravas. All of the drinks and food were great but our favorite cocktail was the young buck and my top three favorite tapas were the ostrich sliders, whipped feta and crab cakes.

Yelp
nightingale is EXACTLY what holly springs needed !! The menu choices are incredible and so different! our server was Brady and he was very helpful with recommendations- very knowledgable about the ingredients and specials which stood out to me as a previous server. Our cocktails were delicious ! the atmosphere is great whether you're going for a date night or girls night out! highly recommend !!

Yelp
The first time I experienced this restaurant I loved it ; great list of fancy drinks, large selection of tapas, and fantastic food. unfortunately, a lot has changed since my first visit. The menu has been condensed significantl. it's no longer a tapas restaurant and drinks are sub par. My husbands old fashioned had crushed ice and it didn't have muddled orange peel or cherry. A place considered to be a cocktail bar should have ice for an old fashioned. My margarita tasted like it had commercial sweet and sour mix. The food was very salty and not worth the price. The whipped feta app use to have homemade crackers and now they serve it with pita. It also use to be creamier and nice mild flavor- not expected in feta. Now it has harsh salty flavor. the desserts looked good but didn't try it because didn't want to risk being further disappointed. We did have a good waiter though.

Shreya B.

Yelp
Nightingale is a beautiful place with good food.We ordered ripped navy beans, Autumn salad and Gonocchi bravas.Food was awesome. We also ordered especial desert almond blonde with icecream and it was really delicious Everything was perfect Ambience, food and service.

Yelp
Fresh and hot food, super cocktail, great dessert, very nice ambience. Many vegetarian / vegan / gf options. Overall I love this restaurant. Goes to my favorite list.
google avatar

Jay S.

Yelp
The service was outstanding. I was in a group of 8 and we ordered about 20 small plates, so the food just kept coming! Brittney was our server and did a fantastic job! We had just about everything on their new fall menu, and just about everything was fantastic. Special shout out to the crisp with cheddar ice cream. Worth trying, with a tiny hint of cheddar and a hint of nutty ice cream on an apple pie crumble. Delicious.
google avatar

Raleigh R.

Yelp
Always a great food and cocktail experience. Our server, Brittany, was amazing. Take your time and order in flights!
google avatar

Wendy G.

Yelp
Brittany was an amazing server and the food was robust with flavors and different textures and taste

Yelp
We had a girls night out with the girls only from my family and it was fabulous! Nightingale is my kind of vibe with an eclectic decor that must be recognized. The service was impressive and they were so nice to give us a glass of complementary champagne and dessert on the house. The food was absolutely delicious. I really thought that the relish plate was going to be different kinds of actual pickles, but it was pickles veggies like green beans, carrots and red onions with a twist, the twist was blueberries. I would never have thought that I would like pickles blueberries, but it works! Just be prepared, it's like tapas style plates, so the portions are small. Depending on what you order, like I had the risotto, it was more than enough. I was really bad about taking pictures, because I was thoroughly enjoying myself. To start, I recommend the whipped feta, my sister in law said she could smother her whole body in it and she's not wrong. It was the best thing I've had in a long time. We also had the cocktail eggs (which only come in 3), & tempura veggies. For an "entree" I recommend, crab cakes, risotto, gnocchi, fries w/ curry ketchup. The croquettes were also really good. We seriously had no complaints about any of the food! For dessert, they gifted us the Torte and Peach "cobbler" ... so freaking good! I will absolutely recommend this place and return!

Scott F.

Yelp
what a shitshow - 30 min for a drink. Leaving thirsty. Need to manage the expectations if short staffed.
google avatar

Jacqueline L.

Yelp
This place has a warm, fantastically decorated 1950s Cuban/Palm Springs chic vibe that I was really digging, but the food was trash. I went there last night and ordered the Summer salad, which was drowned, inexplicably in sriracha and was so unbearable salty I could feel the bloat setting in after one bite. Our server was nice enough to remove it from the bill. Then I ordered the Jerk french fries- the Jerk seasoning was absolutely incredible!... So many savory and sweet and spicy notes- but the fries were not hot and many of them were so rock hard and overly fried I almost broke a tooth! Awesome wait staff though!
google avatar

Amanda K.

Yelp
We didn't have reservations, so I would recommend getting those ahead of time if possible. There was roughly a 45 min wait but someone had cancelled so we were escorted to their table. It was in the far back corner with the kitchen door around the corner and the busboy clean up stand in eye view. I can see why someone wouldn't want that table. We opted to go back out to the bar area to see if we could find a spot and found one in the enclosed area. It was nice and warm. There were sit down areas that looked comfortable and great for friend groups and gatherings. The wallpaper and decor was excellent. It felt nice being there. From the "things with crackers" we had the port wine cheese and the pate, from the "small plates" the smoked catfish dip. All were too salty. The dip came out first and it was almost unbearably salty. It tasted like two tablespoons of salt were dumped on in an attempt to over compensate for a lack of taste. Keeping in mind this place had just opened I was thinking it was just the fish dish. So we tried two more, and when those came out I was thinking it was just the crackers that were too salty. It was the entire dish and the crackers that were too salty as well. Maybe this is the idea to have over salty dishes with cocktails? It was off putting for me. Don't come here if you're looking for an array of beer, the speciality is cocktails. The bar options are standard but the cocktails for being cocktail focused are somewhat limiting. The service was good and our bartender was upbeat. We'll try this place again, maybe we just picked the wrong small plate options. Hoping next time to find less salty options naturally on the menu.
google avatar

Pauline B.

Yelp
Staff was good, we were told to order 3 small plates per person (too rich of food to want 3 small plates) Food is good, just it was too rich for 3plates. Cocktails pretty but hardly any booze . Not coming back til they can pour.
google avatar

Tala M.

Yelp
The new Nightingale restaurant in downtown Holly Springs is beautiful. Very unique and eclectic vibe. Almost city-like. I had one of their signature cocktails which was tasty. My friend ordered their sliders and Peruvian fries. I ordered crab cakes and whipped feta. The food was very fresh and I was surprised how smoothly the restaurant ran - service was top notch especially for a restaurant that just opened. We also shared the olive oil cake for dessert which was so delicious and (dare I say it) moist! I will definitely go back. We ate too fast but I'll definitely take pictures next time!

Harrison P.

Yelp
Great food, drinks and vibes. Rooftop is well covered and heated while cold outside.
google avatar

Brock H.

Yelp
Love the vibe and speed of service. Eccentric menu items and the food tasted great. Would be nice to have beer options that are less than $8 though.

Katie K.

Yelp
I came here with my friends. I and one of my friends started a tab, however, when we went up to pay it turned out that they had only started a tab for me and had put her drinks on my tab. We have the same first name, which they said was the reason behind the mix up. The bartender said that us having the same first name was too confusing for them to handle. I told him that I would just pay for both and she could Venmo me. However, he wanted to split it up so we sat at the bar for 30 minutes helping him figure it out. At the end we paid our correct tabs separately and left. When I checked my bank account the next morning, I saw two charges, one for my correct tab and one for the combined tab. The bartender ended up charging me $67 over what I actually owed. The service here was immature and careless. I recommend checking your charges before leaving. I still have been unable to get a hold of them on the phone.
google avatar

Sandy S.

Yelp
What an amazing place! It's gorgeous - the decor and the rooftop terrace are like nothing else around here, and the food is fun and delicious. I love a "small plates" menu - much easier to be able to try lots of different things. The cocktails are the clear star, however - the care taken in how everything tastes and looks is unbelievable. This is our new favorite craft cocktail spot in the Triangle!
google avatar

Erica Z.

Yelp
Such a shame. Beautiful atmosphere.... However, the food and drinks are mediocre at best. Not worth it. Missed opportunity for the owners.
google avatar

Lindsay S.

Yelp
We went here on a date night, and the food/service were excellent. Would give 4.5 stars!! Deducting a half as we were unimpressed by the cocktails. They clearly had a lot of ice in them and not a lot of cocktail. The ones we got also tasted a lot different than their descriptions. Regardless, we will definitely be back!
google avatar

Aimee I.

Yelp
What's not to love! The location, the ambiance, the food, the unique drinks, and the service! The server, Brady, provided us the best service! We will definitely be back.. thanks for such a great evening.
google avatar

Carrie V.

Yelp
If I were just rating the decor and ambiance, I would give Nightingale 5 stars but since I am also sharing my thoughts on the food and drinks, I have to drop it to a 4. I have been three times now and the service has been good and this past weekend, was really good. The lighting, tile, caning, wallpaper, paint... fabulous! Once you walk through that fabulous green door, you are transported to somewhere much cooler than suburban Holly Springs. However... the food is hit or miss, overall pretty good but the portion sizes are all over the map. You really can't tell how many or which items to order without guidance from a helpful server or past visits. The biggest dissapointment continues to be the drinks. The massive ice cubes really fit well in the glasses leaving very little room for the actual drinks. For the prices they're charging, I would expect a little more liquid. Will I continue to visit? Maybe with friends who haven't been since I get a kick out of the decor (a visit to the restroom is a must!). However, I'll probably save my money and drink elsewhere.
google avatar

Gregg W.

Yelp
Food and Drinks, great! much needed in Holly Springs! Customer Service is another thing. Made a reservation for my wife and her friends. They enjoyed their evening un til at they got pushed out the door! apparently 2 hours is enough time for customers even if they're still eating, drinking and paying customer. They were told that reservations are on a 2 hour time limit even though there were open tables around them and they were willing to order more food and drinks! Don't understand that one AT ALL!

Amber B.

Yelp
Had a great experience at Nightingale. Our bartender JT was friendly, efficient and funny. The drinks were so cute.

Nemo T.

Yelp
The food here is some of the most imaginative and delicious in North Carolina. So much so that I came back twice in a week and begged Chef Joe who created the menu for his autograph on the menu I took home. I was lucky enough to have the last night of wild ramp pesto over medium rare filet medallions and creamy mash. To die for. Also tried the fried grit cake and risotto. Twice. The cocktails were immensely creative and my server Maleah was an absolute delight. She was right there whenever I needed something without overserving. Kept my drinks cold and my tummy filling thru dessert, which she suggested as the cheesecake. Unbelievable experience which I am eager to repeat. Thanks, Maleah and Joe!!

Catherine B.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and view from the rooftop, overlooking the town of Holly Springs. Small plates, fresh ingredients, nice staff.

Bonnie T.

Yelp
Such a cute , fun place but the food is so average and the drinks are incredibly weak. I also noticed the presentation of the food is not good either. Again, drinks are soooooo weak and the food is average and poorly presented.

Katerine S.

Yelp
Loved my experience here! Sat outside and enjoyed the rooftop views. The food and drinks were amazing! cocktails were so unique. My server maleah was very kind and attentive, and all of the staff made the experience even better. Miranda had brought our drinks to the table and chatted with us as well she was a delight. will be back!

Wendell K.

Yelp
Good food. Excellent service. Great atmosphere. Drinks and food are unique very tasty
