Where To Get Food From The African Diaspora In Philly

"This neighborhood African spot on Lancaster Ave. has a menu with everything from egusi soup to jollof rice. But when we pull up to one of their red booths or take something home (and sneak bites between stop signs), we go with their beef in spicy red sauce. It’s a chunky mix of red peppers, habanero, curry, and tomato that you should order with a side of their softball-sized banku. Make sure you get a nice portion of cassava in each bite, as it adds a little sweetness to the roasted beef and mildly spicy stew." - candis mclean

It was my first time trying this cuisine so i don’t know how the food tastes. But the food was okay. The atmosphere in there was not great but the lady working there was genuinely nice. Also they only take cash.

The food here was very good. The owner is super nice and was adamant about warning me of the spice. I'm jamaican and it did not bother me at all. The inside could use an update, but the food is "bussin." I got the jollof rice and lamb.

If you’re looking for good Nigerian food, this place is not the right place to order. I wasted $200 ordering platters of jollof, fried rice, moin moin, pepper stew, and egusi. Only the egusi was ok. Everything else wasn’t good. The moin moin was some greyish color and didn’t taste like moin moin. Do not waste your money!

I came here trying to find Good African food. I thought the food was fine. It was extremely slow and only one person working the entire restaurant. She was nice but there's only but so much she can do. Because I had to wait a long time for my food I got to see things that I didn't want to see. There were roaches casually roaming around the kitchen, on the counters and such.

We order catering from her menu. The joloff rice and chicken are excellent. Her fish and chicken are excellent.
