Google
Nijiya Market in Japantown San Jose may be small, but it’s impressively packed with everything you need for authentic Japanese cooking. From fresh vegetables and fruits to sushi, Japanese snacks, onigiri, and drinks like Ocha and Calpico, this store has it all. The shelves are well-stocked with high-quality ingredients, including miso, rice, noodles, sauces, and more. The staff is always friendly, polite, and helpful, making the shopping experience even more enjoyable. Whether you’re looking for a quick bento lunch, specialty items, or everyday staples, Nijiya is a go-to destination for all things Japanese in San Jose.

The Nijiya in San Jose is quite small, and they have fewer items here, but the staff is very friendly, and the service is excellent. 😊 We did not see meat slices for hotpot, but they do have fresh small wasabi, although the wasabi at Mitsuwa is larger and thicker. There's also sashimi, but we were there quite late that day, and it didn't look very fresh. 🍣 However, they do have a wide variety of other items. You can find fresh vegetables, tofu, Konjac, frozen food, drinks, snacks, desserts, cookies, candies, Japanese daily necessities, noodles, seasonings, and more. They seem to have almost everything you need for daily living, but in each category of items, there's not a wide variety of options. 🛍️🍜🍵 Overall, despite its size, Nijiya offers a good selection of products, and the friendly staff and excellent service make it a pleasant shopping experience. 💕🛒

Google
This market is fantastic! Anytime I’m close to Japantown I want to go here! It’s small but has so many things. The drink and snack selection may be my favorite. I can find so many things that I loved while growing up in Hawaii.

Google
Staff was helpful and gave us some ice to keep the stuff cool on our way back to Reno. Gotta have properly made onigiri, bento, and Japanese beverages. This place had 3.5 out of 4. Onigiri and bento were just like in Japan. Oi-Ocha was the same. Choya was also the same, but none of the Japanese beer was any good. Asahi super dry brewed in Italy??? Are you serious! The store probably can’t control that, due to various government regulations, but they have more control over it than I do. Also lost a star because the store is too small.

Google
Super clean, and had a great variety of Japanese favorites. I wandered over to the Pocky and Yan Yan section of thee, however my husband got a lot of different things. Definitely recommended stopping by.

Google
Probably the best sorted japanese market I've seen outside of Japan. Even the ones in the expat community in Germany can't compare. Staff are very friendly and help you where you need anything.

Google
Excellent selection of Onigiri (rice balls), assorted Bento Boxes, handmade fresh Sushi, fresh meats, fish, tea, ramen noodles and more! I try to go at least once a month. The sales are unbeatable and the prices reasonable. On a given day they have a whole wall filled with an array of take-away dishes made in-house, all amazing quality and flavor. Their fruit and vegetables include rare and unique Japanese favorites such as gobo root, sugar snap peas and Japanese eggplants. Although the location is small they are very professionally operated and the cashiers are very friendly and cheerful 😊 I get all the things I need to make an amazing bowl of high grade Ramen here as well as Sushi and Takoyaki. The location is not far from Downtown San Jose so its pretty easily accessible and they have good hours. Thank you Nijiya!

Google
This is a Japanese grocery with fresh bentos, rice balls, sushi, and baked goods made every morning. They also have small portions of meat, fish, and vegetables. This made cooking dinner for 2 so easy and quick. Tons of delicious Japanese snacks to choose from. The customer service is great! Everyone is very helpful and polite. In the photo is the summer special salmon Harasu Kabayaki bento (Roasted salmon belly with ikura). This was so delicious! I can't wait to have it again.

Yelp
Love this place. Incredible selection of imported goods despite looking tiny from the outside. Ready-to-eat meals are made daily, taste amazing, and have a consistency like no other. I wholeheartedly recommend their Don bowls for a quick and convenient meal - if they're in stock that is, as they usually run out before noon. Staff are also nice, it's very clear they've built a connection with the locals in Japantown. Overall just an amazing store.

Yelp
First time (in awhile) visiting this location and a great stop after a wonderful lunch nearby. Longtime fan of Nijiya Markets (smaller like a convenience store) and frequent the San Mateo and Mountain View locations. Similar offerings but some items not found at the San Mateo location which made me happy! My frequent purchases: Japanese products, thinly sliced meats Grab-and-go items of: :: Sashimi and poke :: Sushi grade fish to make a dish at home :: Bentos - protein with rice :: Chicken Yakitori :: Nishime (simmered spring vegetables) - Bamboo shoots, shiitake mushrooms, carrots, yam cake, burdock, lotus roots, butterbur simmered in dashi and other ingredients giving that slightly sweet umami :: Tonkotsu Ramen - I love how simple and "ready to eat in 3 mins" this item is. Delicious comfort food without going to a restaurant. :: Kinjyo Mixed Fruit Jelly Candy - I grew up on these candies. Fave is the pineapple and orange (San Mateo location doesn't have them) I skip the ready-made sushi as I'm not a fan of pre-made, refrigerated sushi as the rice loses its texture. Just a preference. San Jose location doesn't have a hot food area like Mountain View but a great place for a casual, light meal or items to make at home.

Yelp
Another successful visit to Nijiya for some Grab n' Go food. Got some Kaki Fry; Salmon Nigiri with California Rolls; Vegetable Croquet and a Shrimp Patty Sandwich. All were pretty decent. We were happy to see that they've managed to maintain their food quality and at reasonable prices too! The cashier was very friendly and efficient. Remember to grab your chopsticks, soy sauce, wasabi and tonkatsu sauce. They're sitting in a box at the end of the register counter.

Yelp
We came in to get some fresh fish for homemade sushi. We got salmon and tuna, which looked fine in the packaging, but it didn't taste fine at all. We spent some time creating nigiri, and we also bought some premade maki rolls. The tuna tasted horrible, it was fishy and tastes almost rancid. The maki rolls were absolutely disgusting, I'm not sure what was wrong with it but all three of us took a bite and had to run to the garbage can and spit it out. I'll never buy fish here again, it was the absolute worst. However the store is nice and they carry all kinds of neat Japanese products. Just avoid their fish at all costs
google avatar

Yelp
Cute market in Japan town. We came for drinks and left with drinks and snacks. It's hard not to get little something extra. We'll come back the next time we're in the area.

Yelp
Located in the heart of Japantown is where you come across Nijiya Market that's been around for over 18 years what it lack in size is their price and daily specials far cheaper than dining out at a Japanese restaurant. Been coming out here for over nine years always on a lookout for great bargains croquettes, fish cakes, poke, inari and bento are a great buy though competition from Tokyo Central, Mitsuwa, Fugetsu and Osaka Marketplace are getting better deals some with 20 to 30% percent. Nijiya market is a great place for fresh ingredients, produce, fruits and vegetables. Cashiers are always pleasant and will bag the items thrown in some chopsticks or two without asking. Best to come by early in the morning than later in the day. I usually park along 7th Street off Jackson no meter parking. Support your local business as May is designated as AAPI month

Yelp
Love this market! Will definitely be going here quite often. They have a great selections of sweets and snacks that take me back to traveling. You can surely find your favorite Japanese desserts and sweet treats here. I've been wanting to try the viral strawberry and cream sandwich, which was alright. I liked the flavors but the texture of the bread was more "American" than the typical soft sweet bread found in Asian pastries, if that makes sense.
google avatar

Susan B.

Yelp
Super excited to pick up a Hawaiian breakfast. They have instant packets of tropical pancake mixes, tropical syrups and jams, and haupia mixes to recreate your vacation breakfast in addition to loads of Japanese products. I picked up a new to me curry packet, rice seasoning and salad dressing. Best find? Onigiri for less than I can find in San Francisco.
google avatar

Miliza T.

Yelp
i live closer to the one in mountain view so this location is much smaller than that one (probably half the size). i only stop by this location after a tattoo session across the street for their snacks and ready to eat foods like onigiri, sandwiches or sushi. depends on the time of day you go to! you never know what's gonna be there , which is the fun of it. i don't go here at all for grocery shopping but if there's a hard to find japanese ingredient - this (and the mt view location) is where to go
google avatar

Yelp
My husband likes to shop the ready to go food section area at this market. There many options. Reasonable price. This supermarket is located in Japantown of San Jose.

Yelp
Worse than SF nijiya market Bought their nigiri set and had a stomachache for most of the day. Nothing came out or got painful. But it was definitely the nigiri On top of that, the nigiri was middddddddd with a capital D Bad nigiri, but nice area to sit and eat after nijiya market Anyways, cant bash on it since I like japan and I like supermarkets and this is like the only one in SJ japantown 3/5

Yelp
I purchased 2 tuna sashimi packages on Feb 13, 2025. One package smelled rotten and I could not use it. The coloration was different but I assumed they were different parts of the fish. Edit: I got my refund the next day. Still a major inconvenience as I don't live nearby. I don't feel comfortable buying again as the fish was not fresh.

Yelp
As a Nijiya Market regular, I love coming here to grab lunch. The store is pretty compact, but well stocked and well organized. Street parking is limited (and not free), so it's sometimes easier to park a few blocks away, or just walk over. I usually go right to the prepared foods section in the back. Their selection is a little different every day and also sells out quickly, so it's best to visit earlier in the day. The Nigiri is tasty, but they don't always have it, so I often go for the Chirashi, Sushi Rolls, or Sashimi. The staff members are friendly, pricing is reasonable, and they have a few picnic tables out front, in case you want to eat right away. Overall, Nijiya Market is a Japantown staple - will return!

Yelp
Great place to buy snacks and shop for cute dish-ware! Love cats? They have cute and funny products in the dish-ware aisle for you! My only issue is that my sister and I both got ceramic dish-ware and my cashier didn't offer to wrap it for me, but the other cashier wrapped it for her. Everyone has those days, but ceramic is fragile! Didn't want to go back and ask because there was a line forming behind me. I'll ask next time :)

Yelp
Came to this Japanese supermarket without expectations. Been here before a while ago Ended up getting two items: ahi tuna and hamachi sashimi Check out was quick The woman at the register offered chopsticks and condiments like soy sauce and wasabi right before I left
google avatar

Oanh L.

Yelp
Clean, friendly neighborhood Japanese market. It's a small shop but super well stocked and priced real well. Their premade food items look fresh and delish!
google avatar

Sue S.

Yelp
IMHO I always love dropping into this cute little market whenever I'm in Japantown. I don't always have something in mind to purchase but I love cruising the aisles searching for anything that catches my eye. A few days ago, I found my favorite sake jelly shot canned drink. They were on sale! I bought four. They also have a display of Kelly's Kookies at the front door. I love shortbread cookies, and these are excellent. However, they are expensive, so I passed this time. The produce always looks neat, clean and fresh. Love looking through the frozen section for unique desserts. Tons of other food options, snacks, etc.

Yelp
This is a nice little Japanese market in the heart of Japantown. It has a great variety of Japanese food, fresh and processed. They have wonderful Japanese cookies and candies and I love coming here to pick up gifts. Staff is always helpful They also have prepared boxes of food, which are great for lunch or saving time when making dinner.

Yelp
My friend from San Jose recommended me this Japanese Market place saying that they had an excellent variety in Japanese food and snacks. The parking here is very crowded on a weekend, I went in the morning at 10:30 am and we parked about 1 1/2 blocks away from the market. When we first walked in, the ambiance of the place looked like your average supermarket but it was very small, but it still had all Japanese staple items. The service was alright and the cashier was very nice. The pork katsu sandwich caught my eye since I was craving it, the first bite, the katsu was very dry to me. If you're getting this, I recommend eating it with sauce or even heating it up a little. I would rate it a 4 star, but I have to bring it down because to MY SURPRISE, there was a small piece of plastic in my katsu sandwich. I'm sure it was an honest mistake and my friend said usually their place is clean with delicious food.

Yelp
Such a small loaded Japanese grocery store. They have fresh veggies, snacks, drinks (alcohol & non alcohol). They also have prepackaged meals like pork cutlets and rice, sashimi, sando. It was a quick walk around. I had my kids with me and one had to really go to the bathroom. I ended up getting soba noodle sauce, Japanese popsicle and hi-chew. If we are in the neighborhood again I would stop by and try one of their hot meals or get some sashimi. I wish I was able to walk around the whole grocery store but couldn't. The guy at the check out was nice and polite, so thanks for the great service.

Yelp
Good Japanese grocery stores but it's a kinda of small so selection is limited. Deli section was pretty good and not expensive as much as I thought before. Just need to go when some specific items is on sale
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
I would say there's nothing special about this place that is different from the average Chinese supermarket but it's in a convenient location. Veggie selections are less than the average Chinese grocery market, but more than the average American market.
google avatar

Jeannie W.

Yelp
This is a small Japanese Market. First time here and I love it. They have a lot of Japanese ingredients and spices from Japan. Also they have sashimi and sushi and a lot of frozen food from Japan. Definitely I'll come back for more items.
google avatar

Sandra L.

Yelp
I came here Sunday evening looking for a specific item. Parking was fairly easy and it's free parking after 6PM. I was looking for Kizami Wasabi and could not find it anywhere in the refrigerator sections and was getting discouraged. I asked an employee there and he couldn't find it. Then another person came to help and I was directed to the freezer section and viola! Of course I ended up picking up a few other items and fresh Hamachi sashimi! Overall a great trip.
google avatar

Marisha G.

Yelp
I stopped by here real quick to pick up something to eat and also just to explore. Parking was easy to find, but it is metered parking so be prepared to pay. Walking in, everything was very organized and clean. I walked around the aisles to see what I wanted and when I headed to the back I found exactly what I wanted. There are a lot of options for food from something small and quick like onigiri to larger items like bento boxes. I ended up grabbing some onigiri and a spam musubi. Both were delicious and perfect for the middle of the day. The staff was kind and greeted me before helping me. I definitely want to come back and pick up a bento box next time!

Yelp
Small Japanese market in the Japantown area of San Jose, used to stop by often when we lived in the area since parking is very easy on weekdays and its compact + convenient size reminds me of the supermarkets in Japan. They carry enough protein and vegetables to make a meal while not being so large you'll spend too much time browsing around or trying to find stuff. They occasionally have real wasabi root if you want to treat yourself. 100% of the time I come I'll pick up some sashimi which is always good. The small hot food section also has katsu is nicely made and survived a 20 minute drive home while staying crispy. Since we've moved the only time we come is when there are festivals and events in japantown. You can see what events are coming up on their website as well recipe ideas with nice photography: https://www.nijiya.com/stores/nca/sj

Yelp
Cute and small market found in San Jose's Japantown! They have the main essentials at the market like snacks, seasonings/pastes for food. They have a lot of asian fruits and veggies that look pretty fresh too! There's a variety of fish/sashimi and take out food in the back for quick eats! Parking is fairly easy but a bit rough when it's peak hours since it's street parking.
google avatar

mia k.

Yelp
Small market, but it's got just about everything you may need. I came here specifically to grab a quick lunch, and there were a decent number of options. Got a noodle bowl, sushi, and some fried octopus. Everything tasted good. Downside is they don't have as many options as the other Nijiya market I typically go to, so sadly they didn't have the item I was craving that day, but I'm glad I checked it out. There is paid parking in front, I dug two quarters out and got myself the 15 minutes I needed to do my shopping.
google avatar

Coral T.

Yelp
Has a great selection of Japanese traditional and made in San Jose food items. For seafood definitely go earlier in the day, since this completely sells out by the late afternoon/evening. Everything is moderately priced.
google avatar

Lloyd C.

Yelp
Great Japanese market where you can pickup your groceries, Japanese snacks, Fresh Sushi, Refrigerated Bento Boxes, Sashimi, etc. Ambiaince: This location is smaller than the others in the area. Nice and clean. The checkout cashier is always nice and friendly and can point you to the right location if you can't find something.
google avatar

Jessica K.

Yelp
I was craving some Japanese bento and futomaki so I decided to drive over to Japantown to visit Nijiya. I've been to Mitsuwa before but it's always so crowded and I felt like a mom & pop shop would have even better bentos and sushi variety. To my dismay, a lot of their bentos and sushi plates were already sold out by 11:30am on a weekday. I'll make a note to come here earlier so I can see all the variety they offer. I ended up picking a tempura bento, spicy tuna roll, and an assorted sashimi platter to share with my boyfriend. The super nice cashier asked if I needed any soy sauce and chopsticks. The food was superrrr delicious with the perfect amount of seasoning. The tempura bento came with 2 large pieces of shrimp tempura and assorted vegetable tempura with a sweet teriyaki sauce that perfectly complimented the rice and veggie side dish. Sashimi was very fresh and I thought it was good for the price, since it came with tuna, salmon, and scallop. Loved the spicy tuna roll and they really pack it with a huge amount of spicy tuna. However, it came with shiso leaves inside the roll, and I still haven't quite mastered the flavor of shiso leaf yet, so I ended up picking it out. I will appreciate the flavor eventually! The store is quite small but is filled to the brim with all kinds of Japanese groceries and goodies you can imagine. I seriously need to visit again in the morning so I can take my time to see everything they offer.

Yelp
*****Customer Experience During the COVID-19 Experience***** Nijiya is a small Japanese supermarket chain on the West Coast, with a dozen or so locations in CA and HI. The San Jose location has been around for quite some time. My family and I were in Japantown on 05/15/2021 and decided to stopped by here to pick up some sashimi and prepackaged food for dinner. The market was moderately busy when we walked up at around 2:30 pm. A few people were waiting to get in due to an indoor capacity limit in effect. The staffer posted at the door was busy managing the line and cleaning the shopping carts and baskets. The line moved pretty fast, and we were inside in less than 10 minutes. I headed straight to the prepackaged food area while my family was checking out the rest of the market. Sadly, there wasn't much left. I grabbed two trays of sashimi, a chirashi, a 9-piece nigiri set, a soba bowl with duck and shrimp tempura, and a vegetable croquette sandwich. Prices were very reasonable. The total for all the food items was about $50. The staff was very friendly and courteous. They left a very good impression with my family and I. The food quality was fantastic. The assortment of sashimi (tuna, salmon, red snapper, octopus, and shrimp) was delicious but thinly cut. The chirashi and nigiri set were both very good. The cuts were slightly thicker than the sashimi. The soba bowl was perhaps the most interesting item because of the combination of duck and shrimp tempura. It was quite tasty too! We liked this market so much that we came back a week later! Come check this market out when and if you are in Japantown. But do come early since their prepackaged food sells out fast! BONUS MATERIAL: - Ample parking on peripheral streets.
google avatar

Kymberly I.

Yelp
This little market is great! Nijiya is on the smaller side of Japanese markets. They have a great selection of bento and sushi to-go meals. Their portions are slightly smaller than bento at Mitsuwa. Their employees are so sweet! They also leave a great impression every time I stop by. I would recommend checking out this market if you are in Japantown. But if you would like bento or sushi to-go, I suggest coming early as they sell out pretty fast.
google avatar

Ivan S.

Yelp
Hmm rarely go to this Nijiya, but have been going to Japantown recently. Not so much to the point where I am their every week, to me that's just overkill really. I love this neat little and cramped grocery store, has a lot drinks and beverages, lots of to go sushi, lots of Japanese green tea, matcha variants of Japan a plethora more! Can't wait to bring a date and chomp our beautiful and blissed out hearts on sushi. Bye. *no # review update. Enso forever +- Elevated and charming customer service. Better responsive, english speaking and attentive cashiers. Yah. Covid safe. _Sushi. That's how I roll. 2021/yelp13
google avatar

Darin T.

Yelp
I love this market. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, good variety of Asian groceries and a to-go food area with sushi, sashimi and bento boxes. Reasonably priced sushi and good quality. My only gripe is that their rainbow roll has slices of squid on it that I was expecting to be white fish. Not only do I not like raw squid, but it was jarring when you're expecting a totally different texture. No fault to them, cuz the ingredient list says squid, so it's my bad...but be warned! lol
google avatar

Emily T.

Yelp
Small selection with the essentials and very friendly service. When: NY Eve (so of course we knew it would be busy). Came here to get some groceries and to pick up our $175 pre-ordered Osechi. With the current Covid limitations they only allowed 15 people in at a time so the wait to get in was quite long but it does move and we eventually made it in. Minus one star for their produce section. We weren't impressed with their Napa cabbage quality and they didn't have any enoki mushroom. Osechi review - we really enjoyed it. Our first time buying osechi but maybe next time we will get the smaller boxes because for 2 people the biggest one was way too much. They also ran out of the mochi display (kagami mochi) which made us sad but we were able to go to Daiso and pick some up. Overall, we love Nijiya. This location is a lot smaller than we're used to. We usually go to the Torrance location.
google avatar

Tiffany C.

Yelp
Quite a small supermarket and doesn't have as much variety or unique items as I was hoping for. Bought a few snacks that were reasonable but could have gotten the same items at my local east bay Asian supermarket. If you're in the area and need a couple of basic Asian items, then you could probably find them here. But, not worth a trip out here otherwise

Y M.

Yelp
I am a fan of Nijiya. There is a variety of good food. I have ordered a sushi platter for the holidays. This Thanksgiving, I ordered "Super". It was delicious! The big plate of sushi made all guests happy. I will order it again next year.
google avatar

Rick D.

Yelp
Wow... We're back to bagging fail. Second cashier wasn't busy and was eyeing my insulated bag, so I jumped in and started bagging myself. I had several items in the bag in the way I wanted them and went to tap my card for payment. He rushed in and started rearranging the things in the bag and putting everything else in. He put a tomato on the BOTTOM of the bag with heavier things on top, exactly the opposite of what I was trying to do. Now I have a squashed tomato. Thanks, dude.

Yelp
** The following review reflects my experience prior to the shelter-in-place order currently in effect. ** For a few years now, this has been my go-to spot just before visiting my dad at his assisted living center. It's as functional a supermarket as you would expect in San Jose's J-Town. It doesn't provide the childhood nostalgia that Santo Market does as that was my parents' favorite place for groceries (review: https://bit.ly/3cs3Yec), but Nijiya offers more choice and an easier place to get takeout food. My dad likes the maki rolls and manju, so it's easy to grab and go here. It's not nearly as crowded as its sister store at the Japan Center in San Francisco (review: https://bit.ly/3022moy). and that's part of its appeal as well. RELATED - Do you know the way to San Jose? Here's a collection of places I've visited and reviewed: https://bit.ly/2uv12JY

Yelp
Prices are lil high, but expected considering it's a niche market and location. Buuuut, fresh delicious foods and anything Japanese that you'll need. Can't go wrong. Service was fine, didn't require much help. Ambiance is, well, a small market. It was clean and organized and easy to locate what I wanted and more.
google avatar

Wendy H.

Yelp
A smaller shop than it's San Francisco sister store but it's packed with lots of merchandise. We purchased some sushi in their ready made case. The sushi was fresh. They also carry different variations of manju and other snacks
google avatar

Michael A.

Yelp
I used to live in Mountain View, and there's a larger Nijiya there, which was convenient when I needed to go to a Japanese grocery store. However, I really do like coming to this Nijiya location. It might be smaller, but it's still extremely well stocked. To top it off, the staff are very nice and helpful. They know the layout of their store very well, and are able to help me find things when my description is like "oh yeah, it's the stuff with the... spicy stuff, kinda? But not really spicy. And a little creamy."
google avatar

Debbie D.

Yelp
Love coming here for Japanese goods. A small shop located in Japantown. It's close to home and saves me the trip to Mitsuwa if I just need a couple of things. They are following COVID protocols with masks and gloves. However, it's a bit hard to dodge people sometimes because the rows are narrow due to the size of the store. I love that they have fresh produce here, ready-made foods, and snacks! Definitely worth a visit.

H K.

Yelp
Went to Japan for 8 days in late spring and we missed everything so much when we got back home that we shopped at every local Japanese grocery store regularly over the summer. Yes Nijiya is on the smaller side but it felt like a little slice of Japan with the variety of food and the friendly staff. My only suggestion for improvement would be to update the gachapon machines outside!

Peter L.

Yelp
This is actually the 2nd time I've been here. Just to give a little background, yesterday I went to mitsuwa to get some ochazuke. However, the line to get in is freaking long as hell, like 15people long. I end up getting some ramen noodles Togo instead as there was no line for that... I mean, had to get something since it's like a 15-20min drive... So, today I had to come here to get the ochazuke as I cook a big old Costco salmon yesterday. Ochazuke is perfect as I can put in some salmon in and have it for breakfast. FYI, it ochazuke is just some seaweed and tea powder. Essentially, u add the powder to some rice and add boiling water... It's just rice soup and with some salmon protein it is so much better.. as well as Korean side dishes like kimchi... And I got some seaweed sheets as well. This will be good for making salmon handrolls. Just again add some rice and some kimchi. Gotta finish all that Salmon... And it is way closer in San Jose j-town. And actually I notice alot of the ready food is cheaper than mitsuwa. Have to try them one of these days..

Yelp
What do I buy from J Town Nijiya? Discount fresh fruits/veggies - As I enter the store, I head straight to the produce table to check out their discounted ($1.49 per bundles) over ripe fruits/vegetables. Great bargain for peak of ripeness. Tofu - Then I walk down the right lane to look for Sunnyvale locally made tofu by Gombei. They make various types of tofu: super soft, firm, fried with veggies. When eating at Gombei restaurant down the street, I always order their tofu, now I can buy them from a grocery store. The soft ones I eat as dessert with ginger syrup, the firm ones I add to miso soup, the fried ones I would reheat in airfryer then dunk in dashi broth. Frz Fish - Next I make an 180 degree turn to spy out the fishes in the freezer. Mackerels are cheap ($4.99 for 2 fish) and super healthy - full of oily Omega 3, and low in mercury. Saba Shioyaki is easy and simple to cook. Precooked Eels are a bit expensive, but a must in our home because we have a cast iron nabe pot that makes beautiful looking unadon with delicious crunchy rice. Bread - Around the corner is the Asian bread rack. I have tried their Cherry Blossom white bread but felt it was too dense compared to Taiwan style bread. Recently, I bought their house made Sweet Potato bread, tasted like soft brioche bread, not bad. Also their Mochi bread is 6 for $2.45, so much cheaper than at Paris Baguette. Deli - At the center back of the store is their sushi deli, made daily and delivered from their Mountain View store. Some items are discounted at the end of each day. (grocery stores in Japan does the same practice) Mochis and Dangos - At the other back corner, a table displays fresh mochis and dangos, there are also refrigerated options along the wall. Now, of course ShueiDo Manju Shop across the street has better quality but with higher prices. Fish Cakes - Along the same refrigerated wall, there are many different flavors of fish cakes, I just close my eyes and choose something, every pick is a winner. Snacks - I try to stay away from the processed stuff in the isles but my kids love to wander there for snacks.

Yelp
For how tiny this shop is it'll have everything you'll need and want from a Japanese market. Parking just might be a pain during busy times.

Yelp
Small but everything you need is there right in downtown San Jose. Prices are bit higher than Mitsuwa but understandable due to location. Their sales items are actually pretty good deal. The checkout gentleman was super efficient and friendly at the same time. I would definitely go back next time when I am in the area.
