Nikala - Review - Round Rock - Austin - The Infatuation

"Joining Austin’ssmall but mighty scene of Georgian restaurants(along with Sami Sumeli and Bread Boat), Nikala serves a lot of the same classic dishes inRound Rock. In addition to the country’s signature khachapuri—a delicious and cheesy bread boat—you’ll find grilled meat skewers, thick and hearty soup dumplings, and chicken slow-cooked in creamy garlic sauce." - Nicolai McCrary

Nikala has been open just over 2 months, and I thoroughly enjoyed trying traditional Georgian cuisine from the beautiful Eastern European country. The staff and owner/chef are all from Georgia so they bring the authentic delicious flavors! Special thanks to Niko and George for answering all my questions. I look forward to returning and trying other things! We started with the Adjaruli with cheese and egg (the boat-shaped bread) which was very filling and so good. We also ordered the Elarji balls which were the least impressive of the dishes we had but I think that also speaks to the wonderful main courses, the beef Mtsvadi (Georgian meat skewer. The smokiness and flavor of the marinade was incredible. This was my favorite dish! Next time I want to try the Khinkali (dumplings) and the famous honey cakes. Nikala also has Georgian beer, wine, and sodas. We got the tarragon and barberry sodas which have unique flavors (the tarragon is better). Thanks Nikala for the excellent meal!!

Hands down the BEST Georgian food in all of Texas!!! Everything was incredibly delicious, especially the khinkali, lula kebab, and eggplant rolls — truly outstanding flavors! The service was amazing, the staff was so welcoming, and the atmosphere was fantastic. I can’t recommend this place enough — everyone NEEDS to try this food, you will love it! We are 100% coming back again, even if it means driving all the way from San Antonio. Totally worth it!!!

This was our first time trying Georgian food, and everything was absolutely delicious. The khinkali were juicy and flavorful, the khachapuri was rich and comforting, and the BBQ was perfectly grilled with great smoky flavor. The food felt authentic, hearty, and well balanced, and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. The staff were also very friendly and helpful, especially for first-time visitors. We truly enjoyed the experience and would love to come back to try more dishes. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to try Georgian cuisine for the first time!

My friends and I always used to go to Teji's, and I heard that a new Georgian restaurant had arisen in its place. I had been wanting to go to a Georgian restaurant; several have opened in the greater Austin area lately and my hankering for the cheese-bread concoction khachapuri is strong. So we went to a Friday lunch to Nikala! The interior is beautiful and clean. The staff was super friendly and helpful and guided us with advice on what to order and then how to eat it! We started with eggplant rolls, a cold and refreshing starter, as well as some beef and pork khinkali (soup dumplings) and the star, a cheese khachapuri, a bread boat with baked cheese in the middle, topped with an egg yolk and butter. The waitress showed us how to mix it and tear pieces of the bread off to eat it. It was delicious and we polished off the round promptly. One friend got a Georgian beer and shared it with us, a lovely clean lager. For a main I had the lulu kebab (mixed ground pork and beef, similar to a kofta kebab) and, on the waitress' recommendation, the spicy Adjika sauce. I enjoyed it, and it was definitely the right sauce choice, I had a friend who went here the next day and got the same thing with the normal tomato sauce and thought it a bit basic. The owner came over and met us, and kindly comped me a dessert for my birthday, a pelamushi - a kind of grape juice and flour jelly with walnuts. It was interesting, not bad though not something I'd seek out. All in all we had a great experience and plan to return. Good food, ambience, and service! Also don't miss the market next door - Teji's was a restaurant and market all in one, they've separated the spaces now and Nikala is separate from the Eastern European import shop next door, Qvevri.

This is a true Georgian restaurant owned by Georgian family. The menu is perfect, my favorite eggplant rolls were wonderful and khinkhalis were also great. Of course, kids enjoyed Tarragon drinks and Khachapuri. Great atmosphere and wonderful food. Good to come with kids or friends to watch soccer game or just enjoy a selection of wines. Their cakes are big and tasty. We had a lot of fun! I recommend making reservations since this is already a busy place.

Tried Nikala for the first time tonight and highly recommend it! The food was amazing and service was excellent!! Our party of 4 decided to share all the plates and I’m glad we did. It was a lot of food and it was nice to be able to sample everything. The cheesy bread boat was probably my favorite, but there was not a bad dish among us! Try it. You won’t be disappointed!

We really enjoyed this Georgian restaurant — I was there with my husband and our friends. The atmosphere is amazing; all the waiters are very friendly, attentive, and caring. The food is delicious and filling, and it reminded me of the real taste of authentic Georgian cuisine. We’ll definitely come back here many more times. Thank you, guys!

I recently visited the new Georgian restaurant Nikala in Austin and I was so impressed! I tried Khinkali and some other dishes, and the Khinkali was unbelievably delicious — full of flavor and perfectly cooked. It made me so happy and proud to be Georgian. This place really brings the true feeling of a Georgian soul to America. Our food truly deserves to be known around the world! ❤️🇬🇪 P.S Chef invited us for dessert, was delicious and thank you for sharing your hospitality with everyone!

Yelp
We were all thrilled with how delicious the food was. We ordered kebabs and a stew. Everything was well seasoned and fresh. All of the ingredients tasted high quality and well balanced. We got the food to go, it held up very well. In fact my picky eater liked it so much that we didn't have enough. Next time we will dine in and be sure to order him his own dish! Lastly they were able to answer questions around our allergies Which I always appreciate.

Yelp
I came to Nikala with my family for Sunday lunch after hearing about it from the city of Round Rock's Instagram page. I've always been curious about Eastern European cuisine so we went to try it for the first time, and it was great! Out of the items we ordered, I recommend the khachapuri (adjaruli with cheese) and the mtsvadi tsibili (beef & pork Georgian shish-kbab). Nikala is also a child-friendly restaurant as we had no problem bringing our baby with a stroller. One of the waitresses even offered to open the door for us and did so. The bathrooms were also very clean, and even had a changing station and bidets. Will recommend this restaurant to my friends and family!

Yelp
Are you kidding me!? This place not only fed me and fed me well, but I feel like the owner adopted me. I'm Georgian now. The food was incredible and I can't wait to go back and try more things! I'm so lucky that this place is right in my neighborhood!!

Yelp
The food was excellent. It is unlike anything in Round Rock and very authentic. Service was outstanding and the restaurant itself is very clean and well appointed. Recommended.

Yelp
I'm giving this place 1 star for service, not for the food. The food was delicious -- easily a 5-star meal. However, the service was terrible. Maybe it's because I'm from the Caribbean, where people are warm, friendly, and welcoming, but the waiter made us feel like we weren't wanted there. He didn't explain the menu, didn't acknowledge me when I said "thank you," and overall gave off a very rude attitude. If you don't want people from other cultures in your restaurant, just put it on the front door. I won't be offended -- I'll respect it and go somewhere else. Even with all that said, I still tipped 25%, because I understand people have bad days... but I honestly don't know why the service was so rude. Food: 5 stars Service: 1 star Hope they improve their customer service and make guests feel welcome.

Yelp
My husband and I have been looking for a quiet/ upscale restaurant for date night near us and I think we just found our new spot. This was our first time at Nikala/ trying Georgian food and it was absolutely phenomenal!!! The food and service were both 10/10. We will absolutely be back & look forward to trying everything on the menu. Thank you so much!!
