Orlando’s 38 Best Restaurants | Eater Miami

"There are restaurant institutions and then there’s Nikki’s Place. The Parramore stalwart has been plating meat-and-threes through 75-plus years of systematic segregation and residential displacement, always with class and dignity. Fronted by 81-year-old Nick Aiken, his wife Inez, and daughter Nikki, the restaurant has established itself as a gathering ground for the community. It has hosted a who’s-who of African American icons, politicians, and civil rights leaders since 1949. That Aiken’s brand of soul food is incomparable cements Nikki’s as the go-to place for Southern fare, be it smothered anything (oxtails, pigtails) to fried chicken to meatloaf. Best of all, meals can be made from stellar sides alone." - Faiyaz Kara

I have been looking forward to eating from here for a long time. I have followed the restaurant for years on Facebook. When I finally got the change to eat here i was disappointed. Maybe i caught them on a bad day I don't know. My mac & cheese got melted on the foam plate you can see it in the pictures. My chicken tasted off like it was reheated it was also dry. Now the candy yams that was on point absolutely delicious. The cornbread was average. I might give them another try if I do and its better I will update this review.

I really wanted to love this spot—there’s a lot of potential here, and you can tell they’re on the right track with Southern staples. I ordered the chitterling dinner with white rice, collard greens, and macaroni and cheese, and also the pig feet dinner with mac and cheese and baked beans. The sides were okay overall. The mac and cheese didn’t really give that “made with love” flavor I was hoping for, but the baked beans were delicious. The greens had good seasoning, but there were a lot of stems, which took away from the texture for me. The chitterlings were fairly seasoned, but unfortunately, the smell was very overpowering—even for someone who cooks them regularly and knows what to expect. They seemed like they weren’t thoroughly cleaned, with membrane still visible. I only got a few bites in before I had to stop. That’s just a personal preference, though—I know everyone prepares them differently. The pig feet were flavorful, slightly meaty, and seasoned well. Overall, it wasn’t quite my cup of tea, but I can see where they’re headed and appreciate the effort. I’d give it a 6/10—there’s room to grow, and I’m sure others may enjoy it depending on their taste and expectations.

Google
First and foremost OMG!!! Small place but big in personality, professionalism, laughter and flavor. First time visiting here but they explained the menu and were also very helpful. Today they were also short staffed but that didn't slow them down in no way at all. I ordered pig feet, yams, cabbage with potato salad and a corn muffin. What they need to do is hand out pillows and blankets after your meal because there is nothing but bed time after you eat all that good food. EVERYTHING was good there was nothing that failed in the flavor department!!! A must visit if you've never been.

Google
Food is too salty especially the pork chops too salty to even eat, greens are not good at all yams taste to buttery to even eat and bread muffin is burnt the cake smells bad soon as I opened it stale I taste a little piece. I will never order again. The taste almost made me throw up. The cake smell like somebody dirty house too stale the icing all melted. I can’t even stomach the salty pork chops. Look how burnt the corn muffin is. I know you guys knew you should have made a better batch after noticing the burns on the muffins soon as I opened the plastic back all I smelled was burned bread. The Mac is sour tasting. Only thing tastes decent was the rice. A waste of money. I will never recommend this place ever again. To think I spent $60 today. We threw the food completely away. This place been around too long to be doing this. Somebody too heavy handed on the seasoning by now after all these years you guys should have the amount of seasoning down pack for each dish by portions. It’s sad this was overall 0/10. Bad business all around when it comes to being ok to serve somebody some crap like this.

We went to nikki's place after my wife visited earlier in the year and raved about it. We were greated like family upon entering. Upon being seated we asked for water and coffee. Most places bring you a cup of ice water, unless you specify you want bottled water. Ok fine. Bottled water was brought out at 3 bucks a pop. I ordered the fish and grits with eggs on the side, My wife had the baked chicken with two sides. My fish n grits were very good, although I expected two pieces of fish for $16 dollars. My wife, on the other hand, had to send her chicken back because it was undercooked near the bone. She lost her appetite for chicken after seeing that, so instead asked for the liver and onions. She commented that it was delicious. Other than her sides being on the small side for the price, we had no further issues with the food. What else bothered us about nikki's place? Small things, but they add up. When asking for the bill our waitress, kay, who was very cheerful and helpful throughout, held out the credit card scanner machine with just a total amount on it. When I saw the amount of $52, I should've asked for an itemized bill, but I didn't. I've never in my life seen a restaurant where I have to enter my email or phone number to get an itemized bill sent to me and not presented with it up front. Now, I'm all for supporting a mom and pop place, but In addition to not giving us an itemized bill right away, we were upcharged for a dinner portion of Liver and onions when the chicken was sent back without warning. If you care about repeat customers and I'm sure you do, That's not a good practice. Neither is sticking dine in customers with a 20% dine in fee added to the bill with no notice. That fee should be clearly displayed somewhere. And if it was on the menu, we didn't see it. If we decide to eat from there again, We will get our food to go to avoid the 20% dine in charge. So to summarize, Food was good overall, with exceptions, service was good, with exceptions. with a generous tip and the dine in charge, we ended up spending $72 dollars for 2 plates at lunch time.

Google
A truly unique dining experience in Orlando. Nikki serves traditional soul food dishes in a cute "hole in the wall" restaurant that only adds to the experience. The service staff are super friendly and helpful and ready to offer suggestions on what to eat. We had the oxtail and rib tips and wow! they were absolutely awesome. The serving sizes are massive and the dishes are bursting with flavor. They have a big selection of desserts and I recommend the banana pudding. Nikki's is a bit out of the way, but I recommend making the time to come here and try their food and wonderful service.

Just another slice of heaven to remind you of home. Variety of menu items to choose from, the fish and yams….amazing!! This restaurant is definitely a solid 4.5/5⭐️s.

Yelp
Nikki's Place is a family-owned gem that serves up some delicious southern comfort food! Today is the last day of Black History Month, so I wanted to be sure to support a black-owned biz for lunch today. Nikki's Place never disappoints. I usually go for the fried chicken wing meal and my husband gets the fried catfish. I'm pretty picky about wings and fried chicken in general. I really like that their breading is not too thick and heavy, and it stays crispy even through transport when ordering takeout. The meal comes with 2 sides and a cornbread muffin as well. The macaroni & cheese is always a must, and then I usually go for the okra & tomatoes or the green beans. I ate every last bite! They also have some great homemade desserts, too. I like the peach cobbler and the banana pudding. Do yourself a favor and order some yummy soul food for dinner tonight!

Yelp
Food is so nasty and flavorless. I tried Nikki's a year ago and it was equally as nasty as this visit. I was hoping the food would have improved, but I was fooled. This is not how real, authenticated soul food should taste First visit: smothered chicken with rice, mac & cheese, yams, and black eyed peas Second visit: fried chicken wing platter with Mac & cheese And baked beans

Yelp
Nikki's place is definitely a staple in the neighborhood! Walking in you could tell the community supports this restaurant and I love that! For my drink I ordered the Flop which is fruit punch and sweet tea mixed. Idk if my waitress named it that but it was good!! I did order a sweet potato pie to come out before my meal but it did not arrive until midway through my meal so I ate that later. The flavor was good, but I probably would not order it again. I ordered a veggie plate for my main meal which comes with 3 sides and I added a 4th. I initially got the candied yams, Mac and cheese and greens with a side of black eyed peas. Everything was so good EXCEPT those black eyed peas, they had a sour flavor like they were cooked with a vinegar or lemon juice and I did not like that flavor at all. I ended up swapping them for another bowl of greens. The inside decor is so down home, pics on the wall, old school ordering counter etc. I will return to try some other items when I'm in the Orlando area.

Yelp
Ohhhweeee when I tell you this food was divine! Omg! These were both take out plates and the restaurant is about 35 minutes away from my house. That being said, I re-heated the plates briefly and when I tell you the food was still sooooo good! The fish was fried to perfection, Mac and cheese was rich and creamy and the yams were perfectly sweetened and delicious. I could have done without the rice. The portions were huge, enough for two meals at least. The prices were reasonable as well. Service was fast and the staff was very pleasant and friendly. I actually ordered this right before closing and the quality was still there. I think, matter of fact, I know I just found my new favorite soul food spot in Orlando. Must try, no questions asked. They also have proteins such as chitterlings, hog maws, pig tails, smothered steak, smothered pork chops and so much more! It's a quaint little low key spot right off the 408. No frills but definitely good food!

Yelp
The food here very good. It reminded me of good homestyle cooking growing up. E erything was seasoned well and coming out nice and hot. The service was great as well and our server Kay was very sweet during our time there. She even gave our party a complimentary pen as a gift for eating at their restaurant. The restaurant is a small diner setting, but they have to go as well if they are busy on certain days. I would definitely visit again whenever I'm in town again.

Yelp
Not sure why the bad reviews but the mac n cheese was creamy and full of cheese. First time having fried pork chops like that and they were so flavorful, thin but delicious. Wish they had fried chicken but all they have is wings which weren't the best but they were ok, i prefer a crispy leg or thigh. The collard greens were way too watery in my plate, no smoked turkey in it so they were pretty regular tasting. The black eyed peas were super good. The gravy they put on the rice I'm not a fan of but I understand thats how most of smothered gravies taste like. The sweet potato was very good. The corn bread was dry, not good, crumbly. I will be ordering again to try different things.

Yelp
The food was very good. The hog maws were cook to perfection. The service here was really quick for my second time "dine-in" experience. The ambiance is a homey feeling from all the rewards and plaques that adorn the wall.

Yelp
When I went to Nikki's about 3-4 years ago during Thanksgiving, the food was delicious. However, this summer, nothing tastes great. My husband felt the same way. Perhaps the cooks have changed. I know that inflation has risen (Well at the time of writing, dropped) but I felt the food was too expensive to not be delicious. That was a waste of our money. The next time we're in Orlando, we may try again, maybe not two meals, though. The service was great and the ambiance was good- accomplishments on the wall made for a sense of being invited into their restaurant family However, I felt the entry was too small and congested.

Yelp
Growing up in the south and moving to Orlando I really missed southern food and this place had everything on their menu. The food was seasoned well and the dessert was good also. Service was good.

Yelp
Excellent food!! Friendly atmosphere!!! Great service, and very clean . The drinks are amazing as well especially the flop. Recommend trying one.

Yelp
I enjoyed Nikki's Place. It gives a home kitchen like feel. I would have liked better communication as I've placed an online order before and they just canceled it with no explanation. When I tried to call the store, no answer. I guess they were ready to go that evening. It's a small place, and we all have our days. But dang, communicate! Don't let that stop you. The food is definitely good!

Yelp
We happened to be visiting the Orlando area for a wedding and needed to grab brunch on our way out of town. We found this place on Yelp and were intrigued by the menu. What a SCORE!!!! This is the most authentic, community-based, down-home, Southern-fare restaurant you're going to find. The place is small and just has a neighborly vibe. The outside tells you it's been a community staple forever. The inside tells you they absolutely know what they're doing and that they are experts at the craft of serving the people. The menu is offered via QR and a sign at each table indicates that they add a measly 10% for eat-in gratuity. More on that later. There are only a handful of tables but it was plenty. Only a few diners were present. But there was a nonstop parade of food-delivery pickups. This place is busy and we knew that spoke well of the food. Our server was super friendly and helpful, offering great suggestions about some of her favorite choices. She wasn't wrong! My wife ordered shrimp & grits with cheddar cheese. I ordered an amazing liver & onions with a side of corned beef hash "patties." Both orders came with a homemade dense biscuit. Prep time was on-point and our food came out piping hot in styrofoam containers with plastic utensils. When I tell you this was some of the best food we've eaten in a long time, that's not an exaggeration. Flavors exploded. Textures were perfect. Portion size was excellent. Without question, the corned beef hash patties tasted like an extravagant luxury dish. I will miss them! Clearly homemade and expertly crafted. I wish I had spoken with the cook to find out his/her secret. Cuz' DAMN they were great! By the end of the meal we were stuffed and very happy. Regarding the automatic gratuity... When the check came I did question our server about the 10%, as mentioned on the sign. It turns out she had actually added 15% to our check (which she admitted to). In response, I asked her to remove the 15%... so I could make it 25%! I can't wait to find a reason to go back to the area so we can revisit this gem! DON'T drive past this place! It is absolutely worth stopping in and trying it for yourself. When

Yelp
I heard about Nikki's through yelp. So on a Wednesday I just had happen to check it out after doing some errands this day. I wasn't aware on Wednesdays this place will be full with a line out the door. COVID19 is still active so some of the patrons were wearing masks. However the staff NOPE. I asked the lady behind the counter why she isn't wearing a mask and she just smirked. This was around the time BEFORE the MANDATED order came on Round 2 by the mayor as of recently. So upon entering the restaurant tables are pushed away on the side of the walls and some patrons are either sitting on available chairs or standing waiting for the takeout orders. They are not serving inside. Takeout is the only option for now. So the reason why this place was full (around 10 people inside) is because every Wednesdays is $5 plates. Plates are choices of 1 side / Smothered Rib Tips, Baked Chicken, Beef Stew, Meatloaf, Fried Tilapia, Fried Wings. They have the menu specials for the $5 plates. You can also order from the regular menu as well for higher prices. The oxtails I want to try for $14 ish. They offer desserts as well from cake slices and poundcakes to peach cobbler and banana pudding. $4 each serving. The staff are Southern friendly they treat you like family. Saw 1 white lady in there and the rest were black. Ms Nikki I was told was in the kitchen. I asked a lady that bought 3 plates whats her recommendation and she ordered Smothered Rib Tips, Baked Chicken and something else. So I opted for Baked Chicken dark meat because white meat is $1 more and one side choice - mac and cheese. The other order was Smothered Rib Tips again with Mac and cheese. You get a cornbread muffin and rice with your meal. Around $18 I walked out with 2 hot plates and 2 desserts. Avoid buying the desserts here due to they add too much lemon squirts for some reason as a preservative for their desserts.

Yelp
I knew when I pulled up to the place and saw the area that it would be good. Lol, but seriously. It's in the hood and right next to a church. Man that food was amazing. I had ribs and smothered chicken. the Mac and cheese was phenomenal. The greens and green beans were so good. Service was great and I got my food really fast. I would definitely go back if I end up back in the area.

Yelp
I did a foodie trip for valentine weekend. I am from Tampa. Sunday feb 16, we wanted to try Speakeasy burgers, unfortunately, they were not serveing that day so i reach out for a recommendation and Nikkis place was provided. OMG...great, great suggestion. we were seated immediatly and serviced right away. it did takeyet some time for the food to come out, but it was five of us and greatness takes time. I had the turkey wings with greens and candy yams and the flip(lemonade and fruit punch) mixed together. Everything was soooo guudddd(spelled wrong on purpose). Our waitress Nikko was so awesome, she remembered all our names and provided great customer service!! I sincerely recommend this place. Do keep in mind it is a little small, yet southern comfort. I shall return. I pray in the future you can open a bigger spot...the atmosphere was chatter from other patrons and very busy with the online orders and take outs...I felt at home...

Tiffany A.

Yelp
There aren't enough kind words to describe my experience. We catered in multiple options for roughly 100 people & EVERYTHING was amazing! Ordering process was smooth and very accommodating. Food was 10/10! I would recommend Nikki's place over and over again to any and everyone!

Yelp
Came here for pick of my to go order. I was interested in trying the fried chicken wings since I was on my fried chicken spree. For sides I chose white rice and lima beans. I called in 20-30 mins ahead of time so when I walked in my order was ready to go. This is a small spot by the ladies there were friendly. The wings had a hard fried breading on them. A little different than what I was expecting. But the flavor wasn't too bad. But for me, I think the breading overpowered the flavor of the chicken. I don't know if the chicken was double dipped during the process of coating the chicken with the flour. Or not bite if it's the type of flour mixture used. The rice tasted old almost to the point of being spoiled. As if it sat in the fridge too long. The Lima beans was good tho. Mac n cheese was good and cheesy. They had a variety of items on the menu that I would like to try, but I'm rarely down in that area, not too far from the Camping World Stadium. Maybe one day I will be back..

Yelp
We live in California, but we make it a point to come to Nikki's Place every time we visit Florida, and we have been going to Nikki's for 14 or 15 years now. The food is amazing. Absolutely cooked with love as the secret ingredient. And it is a place where you feel like you are at home. The only reason that I am happy Nikki's is so far away is, if we lived closer I would gain sooo much weight. The Shrimp and Grits here is better than I have ever had anywhere else. The Sweet Potato Pie is an almost spiritual experience. This place is just a huge smile for me and my family

Yelp
The restaurant is definitely off the beaten path but we'll worth it. If you can call your order in I suggest trying to do so, especially during lunch hours. I've had both dinner and lunch and both were amazing. The food does require a bit of a wait but it is well worth it. Both times my orders were to go but they do have a small dining area to sit in. It's a little warm inside and the to go traffic will constantly be walking past you if you decide to dine in. Mac and cheese, fried chicken, sweet potato pie, yams, oxtails & rice were all a hit! This is a great southern cuisine spot and the portions are generous.

Lisa ..

Yelp
We ordered food for the past holiday as we were out of towners. When my daughter went to pick up our order at designated our food wasn't ready or packaged . When food arrived to the home the ham was not warmed or cooked. We had to heat it and add a glaze to it. Mac and cheese was mediocre. Turkey was good. Other sides were ok. The caterer forgot to packed my dressing. I texted the caterer about it and she responded an hour later letting us know she had some left. By then we were already eating and I didn't want what was left after been sitting all day in the restaurant.

Erma M.

Yelp
This was a got to go place when visiting the Orlando area. So, I placed an order for 3 meals for pick up to take back to the hotel. When I tell you we were disappointed, our food was not good like we had experienced in past years' visits. So, for me, it will be a pass on this place for now on. But, thank you for the years past great food.

Yelp
Pros, super hidden location Adorable restaurant but gives like a someone's old house type of vibes, fits the downtown vibes really well! The girl at the front was so fast and nice I loved that the most about this place Some seating but you can tell it's mainly take out Loved the options, collards greens, yams, oxtail, catfish , pigs feet, and the dessert looked super good but skipped it this round Cons: Mac & cheese was so flavorless and dry , it tasted like heated up in the microwave from the night before with no love , yuck Oxtail- not a lot of meat, so much fat , I chose to just not even finish it --- I think this is the food that got me sick Collard greens - SO GOOD , my favorite thing I got Cornbread - moist but idk it didn't taste the same as others I've tried before , I think it was good just a little off tasting idk! Sweet yams- SO GOOD All in all the experience was better then the food but that's ok, maybe an off day, it was a random Thursday so I don't blame them , will try again to see if I can get the better version of the foods I didn't really like But til then, I'm not gonna lie my stomach isn't feeling well after whatever I ate :( So maybe try something other than the oxtails ? Loved everything else & wanted to give it a better rating !!

Yelp
Came in on an early Sunday afternoon in an effort to beat the church crowd. I know...I'm a heathen. I ordered the breast and wing plate, and as my friend was placing his order, the server noticed I was distracted by the dessert rack. She turned to me and asked with a smile, "What are you looking at?" I laughed and told her the desserts. She told me I better order it right away and not wait till later because pickup orders were coming in and people were snatching them up. In a panic, I ordered one of EVERYTHING! Red velvet, peach cobbler, AND the sweet potato pie. That peach cobbler, ya'll. I gobbled it up, pretending it was an appetizer. It was fresh out the oven and still warm.

Yelp
Ok, so it threw me off the first time.. We came down and had to wait in a line outside just to order, it was taking too long in the heat so we left. We decided to try again a week later. It is very small and tight on the inside but get cozy, cuz it's going to get good! It's like visiting family, everyone squeezing together in a small dining room with a delicious Sunday dinner. Generous portions, friendly people and delicious food! I vote -yes

Yelp
Upon entering the establishment, we waited about 30 minutes before we could even place an order. Once we were ready to order at about 4:45, we were told they are no longer making any fried foods because they close at 6. SMH. So, we were forced to order other items off the menu. We ordered the smothered rib tips, with dressing, collard greens, and Mac., and the oxtails over white rice(since they were out of yellow), collard greens, and lima beans. The greens were too salty, dressing was terrible, the rib tips had no flavor, mac n cheese was not good, oxtails were tough, and lima beans could have been cooked longer. Overall, I would highly not recommend it! Service is slow, and the hospitality was not it. On top of that, when they brought the check, the total was $72 for 2 meals.... Someone definitely can't add. We're still looking for some good soul food in Orlando.

Yelp
No! Absolutely not! Not ever again! And not even if they would give us a free meal. I would never visit this awful place again!! Pros: Decent food. Meaning, that it was semi-seasoned. And they only got two out of the 3 pick-up orders wrong. Cons: Horrible customer service. Rude over the phone. Dismissive when you pick up food. And just miserable to deal with. PERIOD!! My experience while attempting to place a large catering order: Two weeks after emailing an inquiry for catering, I called to find out if anyone had received the email. I was told "well, you gotta wait. She get back to you." I explained my event was in a few weeks and I wanted to know if it was even possible to have it catered. She then says, "you have to wait or you can just pick another place." I was shocked. I asked her if she meant to go take my business elsewhere. She said, "that's up to you. Otherwise, you just have to wait. That's it." Finally, after emailing, texting, for another week, Nikki called back, we had a full conversation. I gave her all the details. She said she'd get back to me. Days later, nothing. I called again. Two days later she texted and she needed to be reminded about our conversation and what my order was. She was forgetful and unorganized. Two qualities you don't want in a caterer when you are hosting an event. After our last conversation, she was fully aware I wanted this to be catered Two weeks before my event, she told me the price was TWICE the amount of the original quote because I was 40 mins away. I AGREED TO PAY THE PRICE OF OVER $1,100. And she STILL canceled on me saying, "her father said NO that she can have me pick up the food, but she would not do the order." THIS WAS A WEEK FROM MY EVENT. I didn't even know she had to ask her father permission to fill an order! BIZARRE! I told her unprofessional this was of her. And she said that she was going to do it but SHE IS A RESTAURANT AND ISN'T SET UP FOR CATERING! That was a blatant lie, as it is promoted on her website. The only reason I even entertained this foolishness was that the person of honor really wanted soul food. I really didn't know anywhere else to go! Otherwise, the first time she messed up my order she would have been off my list! Let me be clear, this is NOT the best soul food in Orlando, but I am grateful for this mess, because, through her unprofessionalism, I FOUND OLEY'S!!! AMAZING FOOD, well seasoned, very good pricing and I was shocked at how friendly they were. Nikki's awful customer service left me scarred! Oley's cured me with their mac and cheese, collards, fried chicken, and their dressing!!!! NO FOOD IS WORTH THE DISRESPECT NIKKI'S SOUL FOOD AND HER TEAM OFFERS! She will learn and her business will suffer as a result of her mistakes. Do not say you have not been warned!! I wish I didn't take someone's word and looked at the website myself. I would've seen that man smiling with an award in the kitchen and that FILTHY wall in the background! Disgusting!!!! And if you don't believe how bootleg the service is go try to order a catering order and find out for yourself! You have been warned.

Yelp
Food was Awesome! Mz Ruth is Splendid! I had Salmon Croquettes and The Mrs Had Liver and Onions! Huge Portions. Next time we are in the Area! It's a Yes to come back! A Capital S! In Soul Food!

Leslie S.

Yelp
Food is okay, not as great as it used to be. If you are ordering to go, apparently you have to request silverware because they aren't going to give it to you and make sure you request the exact amount you need for the number of meals you have because they will only give you one for multiple meals lol I guess they expect you to share it?

Yelp
Went here on friday to get some of that good southern love and got just that. I got the catfish with yamz and Mac and cheese and my girl got the smothered pork chop with greens and Mac and cheese and it was BUSSIN! Literally was showed nothing but love from the staff all the way down to the food. It was my first time but clearly this place is a neighborhood staple. If you black and wanna feel like you in grandma or grandpas house, this is the place for you.

Yelp
Now, I'm a soul food cook and honeyyyyy this is close to my food! Please don't be discouraged by the outside appearance and how small it is, everything was perfect. We arrived mid day during the middle of the week. We were greeted by everyone, which isnt a common thing. Literally, everyone was happy and friendly, and if they weren't happy, they fooled me and made me smile! Lol We ordered quite a bit. We got the lunch with white meat chicken, rice with gravy and field peas. Perfect! Needed nothing at all. Well besides vinegar on my peas, but I'm a vinegar type of gal'. We also got the catfish dinner with Mac and cheese and yams. They were also delish. This was Marcus' plate, but I got some of that crispy yet moist fish! I ordered the oxtails with rice, Mac and cheese and greens. Now, I typically don't eat greens from restaurants, but these were not the typical. The macaroni was delish. Wasn't mine but it was the best restaurant Mac and cheese I ever had. I also preserved okra and tomatoes- also scrumptious! The order was to go and the lady delivered it with a smile. She told us to check our order. Before I could state the okra and tomatoes were missing, she was at my window. I LOVE IT HERE!

Yelp
I've been craving comfort food for a few days and wanted to try something different than the places I normally order from. I'd heard good things about Nikki's Place and decided to give it a try via Uber Eats. I'm glad I did! The food was prepared and delivered quickly and still warm. I chose Carolina beef stew which comes with white or yellow rice (I opted for yellow), two sides (I chose macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes), and a corn muffin. My boyfriend got the meatloaf with mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and baked beans. I enjoyed all of my food. The beef stew had large, tender chunks of beef. It only had one carrot which was a little odd, but I appreciated that they didn't skimp on the beef as some places do. It was served over yellow rice that was perfectly cooked and had a nice flavor. The macaroni and cheese was creamy and had a hint of a mustard flavor that went very well with it. The mashed potatoes were smooth and topped with a flavorful gravy and the corn muffin was yummy as well. My boyfriend loved his food as well. I think we definitely have a new favorite for the days I want to throw calorie counting to the wind and just enjoy some well prepared, delicious comfort food. I can't wait to try more soon!

Yelp
The food is amazing! So happy I found Nikki's place. Best Southern breakfast and super friendly staff. They are all family and friends and they make you feel like you're a part of the crew! I will be back!

Yelp
BUSSIN Everybody destroyed their food! We got everything from fried chicken to rib tips to meatloaf! Make sure you get the collard greens and cabbage as a side! & the potato salad was good, and you know you can't eat everybody's potato salad!

Yelp
I wanted chitterlings They were okay, they put gravely on top. The rest of my food from a can. I order string beans and the meal came with cornbread. The service was great, a pit pricey for can food. The ambiance was okay.

Yelp
This was my first time in Orlando and when I googled Soul Food Nikki's came up. I stopped by to satisfy my fix and this ended up being the BEST part of my trip. Upon walking in the door, the service was pleasant and the establishment was clean. We were seated immediately and presented with menus. The Sweet Tea was perfectly made. It's a step under Diabetic Shock and 2 steps above average. If you are a sweet tea drinker, I suggest you get it. I ordered the Tilapia Dinner plate with Collards, Mac N Cheese, Yams, and Rice with Gravy. EVERYTHING ON MY PLATE WAS AMAZING. I can't express the level of awesomeness in this food. It tasted like my grandmother was in back and we had just got home from church. It was truly Good for the Soul Food. I will go back to Orlando just to eat here again.

Yelp
If Keith Lee came to Orlando, this place would get a bad customer service zero rating. When picking up online order, I was informed they ran out of an entree and refunded money. Great. When I arrived home, another entree was missing. One of the foam containers contained just muffins. Reached out via email twice for a refund and never got a response. I'm disappointed because as a first timer, the food tasted great enough to become a frequent customer but I'm not in the giving free money for no food frame of mind. I recommend checking your order at the store before leaving. First time and last time.

Yelp
Sorry no pic.. I ate so fast! At any rate, I am a long time fan of Nikki's place going back to 2015 .. patiently waited for the reopening!! I have kinda written them off largely due to customer service and decline in food quality. However, today hubby was craving collard greens!! I suggested a Nikki's we were not to far.... So glad I did! Jasmine was out server, she was awesome! Great personality & efficient!!! Food was so good, I'm extremely upset because I left my peach cobbler!! insert crying emoji Smother pork chops, collard greens, mac & cheese. Mac & cheese was on the cold side but had a good favor. Collard greens & pork chop !!

Yelp
Owned by Nick Aiken, Jr, nearing his 80s and working in Restaurants since age 10, Nikki's Place is nothing short of an Orlando icon for comforting cuisine and the sort of hospitality for which the South is renowned. Featuring a story that began at Roser's Restaurant, young Nick helping the owner and learning her techniques along the way, it was after furthering his skills in Junior College and the kitchen of Ronnie's Restaurant that Aiken purchase 742 Carter Street in 1999, it's renaming since finding wife Inez president and daughter Shannea "Nikki" Akins manager. Still successful during the pandemic, shuttered indoor dining compensated by catering as well as take-out, it was just past 8:00am on NYE that Nikki's was found busy, three "to-go" orders necessitating a twenty minute wait for Food that offers unquestionable value on the dollar. All scratch made and full of nostalgia, it was with several dishes unavailable till lunch that Breakfast was the focus, fried Wings and a pillowy Waffle each prepared as they ought to be while cheesy Eggs scrambled, Potatoes and smoked Breakfast Sausage were all precisely what one might expect, and then some thanks to the Seasoning. Not about to forget a fried Pork Chop, rarely seen up north or west but here cooked golden and juicy, Grits and Biscuits each showed well while Desserts including peerless Sweet Potato Pie and multi-layered Banana Pudding completed a wonderful morning.

Yelp
Soul food done the right way. Taste like I was back home for a second. Reserved a spot to dine in, food was served hot, and everything was well seasoned. Great spot.

Yelp
Ok, don't judge me... I went to Nikki's place yesterday, for breakfast, and it was so good I went back later and got Dinner to go! The breakfast was spot on, fried catfish, eggs over medium, cheese grits and a nice piece of Texas toast. Wifey got the fried pork chop, home fries and scrambled egg. Dinner was delicious as well. The Ox tail portion was a bit small, but it was delicious and well priced. The sides were perfect. Mac and Cheese, dressing, Greens, potato salad... I might go back again tonight.

Yelp
Sadly disappointed in this establishment as it looks to be pretty popular. Placed an order on their website. Drove 40 minutes to pick up the order. Informed them of my name for the order upon arrival to pick up. Waited for the order for 40 mins in the restaurant. (Note there is a very small waiting space with no Covid protocols). After this wait and giving my name for the order several times I was informed they cancelled it because there was "no more fried foods" (in the soul food place no more FRIED foods go figure). You would have thought they could have used the contact information on the online order for a courtesy call. Or just not let me stand there if you weren't making any food for me. And no management to offer an apology they just yelled from the back what they had left. (There's a reason those items were probably left). Gas prices are high and this was a wasted 1.5 hours and a lot of miles. May be a waste of time. You should call and confirm they have your order before going here.

Yelp
Definitely will be back. Food was very good. All the workers were courteous. I expected the worse from the workers, judging by the reviews but people need to start reading. The restaurant have signs posted all over. The signs are there to keep the business organized. Read the signs, follow the instructions and your time at Nikki's will be very pleasant. They've just gotten themselves another loyal customer. I tried the pig feet, beef stew and lemon pepper wangz... wow. Think I'll try the turkey wangz and smothered chicken next. Blessings.

Yelp
Ok so listen; Nikki's is a must for flavorful food. My partner and i went this morning for my birthday breakfast. I had two eggs, corned beef hash, potatoes and a biscuit. He had shrimp and grits w/ a biscuit. The food was served piping hot and they tasted super yummie. Lots of flavor. The service was friendly w/o trying to be your best friend. We got a sweet potato pie to go. (Saving that for later.) This is a place you will definitely put in your restaurant rotation.

Yelp
I wish there's a 4.25 star option. There's not that many choices for southern soul food in Orlando, this place is not bad, everything was very much home style! The ox tail stew was amazing! Meat was stewed to perfection, very soft to bite with tendons and fat that that melts in your mouth alongside with strong tomato tastes. The carrots and potato were stewed soft and soaked in meaty and tomato flavors, lovely! The fried chicken was perfectly battered (not thick or hard at all!) and fried to crispy. As you bite down, the batter cracks immediately in your mouth. The meat itself was also soft and juicy. However though, it did tasted a bit bland. It's got perfect everything of southern fried chicken, but just needed a little more seasoning. It's ok, since you can just add salt and pepper, and maybe a bit Cajun seasoning to it to make it perfect. They are doing takeouts only and have a ton of menus laid flat on a lot of tables, so literally all you have to touch is the bag of your food and maybe a credit card receipt while you are in the restaurant. However though, the restaurant was a pretty small space, and social distancing wasn't strictly enforced, so I felt a little bit uncomfortable waiting inside. But it was not too bad. Other than that, owner Nikki was super nice and very welcoming. She has her wall posted all with recognitions from the City and local papers. She also supported a lot of local causes, which I find very warming! Overall, I still like this local home style place! I would probably go back and try other things on the menu. If the chicken was seasoned better, and if it wasn't for the pandemic, I would probably rate it a 4.5 if not better! Rating 5 for now for the owner's enthusiasm and for the home style cooking!

Yelp
This is now my second visit to Nikkis Place and as usual it doesn't disappoint. Nikkis Place had a rough time last year rebuilding after the fire. I am grateful for their resiliency and commitment to serve their community with good service and excellent food. That is the heart of soul food and I am here for it. On this day I picked up an extremely satisfying, comforting & delicious meal. This plate has chicken wings, fried perfectly crispy, seasoned just right. The candied yams are a treat all on their own, sweet & not mushy as some places tend to serve. The mac and cheese, cheesy & plentiful, tasty, gooey and good! The service at Nikkis is always good. You are greeted as soon as you walk in the door. It is a delight to see the people dining enjoy their food. They have a certain joy as they take bite after bite.

Yelp
I can go on and on for days about how amazing this place is. I came here about 3-4years ago (before their kitchen fire) and I have been craving it since. All you need to know is the chicken is phenomenal. The beef stew would be my request for a LAST MEAL! This is the epitome of what southern style "what Mama (or in this case Papa) used to make". If you're looking for a reason to come by here. STOP. You need to stop by here. Plain and simple.
