The Best Teriyaki in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"Family-owned Nikko Teriyaki has been satisfying starved West Seattlites for years. You won’t find much elbow room in this bustling mom and pop shop, but you will find some great teriyaki and even some surprisingly tasty Chinese dishes. For the noodle lovers, add the chicken or beef yakisoba to your meal, served hot off the grill." - Joey Carreon

Google
Went to Nikko Teriyaki for the first time. I discovered this place because I was having a car appointment nearby there. Ordered their Chicken and Pork Combo Teriyaki made with Spicy. Very delicious and super fresh tasting! The atmosphere was very pleasant and cozy! Also, outstanding customer service!!! Highly recommended!!! Love love love it 😍!!!

Google
Called in for order and was ready in 15 min. Got the chicken teriyaki, so good.

I've started a journey for finding my favorite teriyaki place in the greater Seattle area. I would say this place is in the running for a slot in the top 3. This place is nestled near the junction in West Seattle. It's a quaint and tiny establishment that focuses on their food. I've had their chicken teriyaki as well as their katsu. What I love about their food is the punch packed flavor on top of the portions they serve. You can expect at least two meals out of one ordered plate. That's if you don't mind finishing your meal feeling extremely full. All in all if I'm craving Teriyaki chicken and I'm in the area. I might just be making my way here. Order ahead to save yourself some time.

I pick up takeout from here once a week. It is my favorite spot in Seattle to stop at. The food is always hot and delicious. The owners and staff are always kind and pleasant to interact with. If you’re in West Seattle looking for a bite to eat I would recommend checking this place out. Oh, and it’s very fairly priced.

Google
Top tier teriyaki experience. The chicken is marinated and lightly cured so it has a really nice form juiciness and meaty bite. The sauce is sweet but not overwhelmingly so. Proper short grain rice. Good salad dressing with a sesame oil flavor that is a nice twist on the classic sweet mayo. Gyoza have juicy fillings with plenty of cabbage and white pepper.

Google
Food was great, but $16.99 for a container they fill half with salad and then stack a smaller than average portion of chicken on top of the rice isn't worth it. Order to eat in and they provided it in a to go container. The tables were sticky and all they have is two small garbage cans that were full.

Google
First time in west Seattle and this location was recommended to us for the best teriyaki chicken. We place our order we got the chicken teriyaki with rice and lettuce and an appetizer with dumplings and eggrolls. Our total was $30 and it was the most amazing teriyaki we have ever had.

Yelp
Solid teriyaki and was a good meal even split between 2 people. There's not much space inside to eat but we took one of the little tables and it was fine enough :) My favorite spot is still I Love Teriyaki but this was definitely a great meal and what we were looking for

Yelp
I found this on yelp while in west Seattle and hungry for good teriyaki. They definitely have it! It's a tiny shop with 3-4 tables and some clutter including a big grocery cart from Safeway up the street full of supplies in the bathroom!? With all of us trying to stand around for takeout orders it's pretty tight and then through in the two guys yacking loud at a table about odd topics, do yourself a favor and order takeout! But from the guy at the front and what I could hear from the almighty OZ in the kitchen behind the curtain chopping meat, it was pretty quick and efficient! I ordered the standard size pork Teri instead of the lunch special size. It was a pretty generous portion and a lot of salad! But I like salad with this so it worked out. The meat was cooked great with the occasional piece having a little char. I'd definitely go here again.

Yelp
There have been countless times that I've passed by Nikko Teriyaki when visiting West Seattle, but this past weekend I finally got the chance to come in and try them out while my car tires were being rotated nearby. The inside of the restaurant is quite small with very limited seating (maybe 4 tables at most), but it seems majority of their business is relied on takeout orders. The person working at the counter was friendly and welcoming. I had ordered the chicken teriyaki, one of Seattle's staple dishes. It came with the usual rice, leafy vegetables, and the chicken alongside a small cup of their special sauce. The teriyaki chicken was cooked nicely, flavourful with a good chew. All the other items complimented each other well. When dining in, you can use as much sauce as you need that's on the table. The sauces might be on the sweeter side, but I thought it was tasty. All in all, another very valid teriyaki place in Seattle. I see myself coming back again soon and more often.

Yelp
This place always smells so good when I walk by and I finally gave it a try. Entrees are a good portion and could make 2 meals out of one order. Ordered the following: Beef and chicken teriyaki - includes iceberg lettuce salad with a tasty salad dressing and 2 scoops of rice. The beef and chicken had good flavor and were tasty, the beef tasted a bit like Korean bulgogi. I liked the chicken teriyaki more than the beef teriyaki. Wish the chicken teriyaki was juicier and less dry. Chicken teriyaki and vegetable tempura - includes 2 scoops of rice. The tempura looked unappetizing, but it was actually delicious, had a great crunch, the vegetables were fried perfectly, and the tempura sauce was delicious. The chicken teriyaki just like the entree above was flavorful and tasty. Would come back for the tempura and chicken teriyaki and also try other items.

Yelp
Felt like some teriyaki and saw this place. It's right by the Safeway tucked away but if you look on left or right you'll see it. When you walk in your greeted and there fast they want you to order fast. There's a little bit of seating inside for you. I ordered the Chicken Yeriyaki & Chicken Katsu Combo. Chicken Teriyaki was good as well as the Katsu. I'd recommend this place to everyone

Yelp
Been checking out reviews for this place for at least a year and decided to take the bridge to check them out. When I arrived, I was concerned, the open sign was not lit and the front door was boarded up, but I saw someone inside, so I proceeded. The place is tiny, I'd say capacity is about 8 people. Prices were high for teriyaki, but when your reviews are near flawless, I'll try. I decided to go Mongolian. I asked the guy if he prefers chicken or beef, he said beef, which is what many reviews suggested as well. I was hungry, so I also asked for the beef to be spicy as well as a cup of soup. As I sat in this cold place, I wondered why I hadn't been served my soup, so when the meal came 10 minutes later, I got a coffee cup with my soup in it. At that point, I didn't want it, it was meant to be an appetizer, now that my food is here, I want to eat. I won't candy coat this, the meal was terrible, I paid extra for heat, there was not, there was no spice either. I had to add soy sauce and salt, just to get any flavor out of the beef and it was still bland. For $25 this was a joke. My go to lunch is Yummy Café near UW. For $15, you get soup, egg roll, rice and an entre in a full-service restaurant and everything is seasoned. Here I spent $10 more for less and the flavor was worse than any other place I've tried claiming to serve wok meals. I don't know if the chef made a mistake or this place just doesn't season their food, but this was terrible from beginning to end. Just another example why you can't always trust a Yelp review. Cup of Soup wouldn't have been better than this.

Yelp
Unassuming spot with great food and friendly owners! I wish the portions were bigger but economy. Support this place!

Yelp
I really like Nikko for their teriyaki, salad, gyoza and egg rolls. I should venture out for some stir fry or some other teriyaki type meats. Sadly, I tried the sweet and sour chicken and the sauce was just not great. Too sweet in places and too tangy in others. Very ketchup forward. Couldn't get a good balance and there was so much sauce. I probably won't get that again. However, Nikko has amazing customer service! The guy(s) in the front are so nice and they really work an efficient business. It's a smaller shop, and they do a lot of to-go orders, but I'm sure you could sit if you needed to. Despite my lackluster sweet and sour chicken, I will still come here for teriyaki! And also try some other things too. Definitely give it a shot! P.S. Park in the Safeway parking lot and walk down the stairs.

Yelp
I love Nikkos it's my favorite teriyaki spot in Seattle. I love their secret salad dressing I could just eat that on about anything. I've become a pescatarian/vegetarian over the years so I haven't had their chicken teriyaki for a couple years. I tend to get a lunch bowl, no meat, extra veggies, with their dressing and sriracha. Yum. I do wish they brought back the real sriracha the other brand they have is very vinegar-y. Not my vibe. Since high school about 10 years ago their quality has changed a little bit. Still very good just not exactly the same. But not enough for it to not be my favorite. Best I've had in Seattle, especially West Seattle.
google avatar

Daizha E.

Yelp
APIHM #6: If you're from West Seattle, you know about Nikkos-- but if you're not, let me catch you up! I remember coming here weekly in high school because it was the "thing to do" if you went to Chief Sealth or West Seattle. They offer lunch plates and we would all get chicken teriyaki. The owner would remember us and if we wanted no veggies, extra sauce, etc. Now that I am out of highschool and deal with highschool kids regularly, I can only imagine how tiring a big crowd of kids with an even bigger order to take back to their fired would be tiring but I never got that vibe from them. The staff here is family-owned and their service is amazing. Very quick and very sweet! They do have indoor seating but their space is on the smaller side. If you're in West Seattle and looking for a quick bite, I recommend grabbing something from here and enjoying it outside in the sun.

Yelp
Will add a food review after I taste it. The order service is efficient. The man behind the counter is quick and accurate. LOTS of walk-ins and phone calls to order. Not cozy, comfy. Good for take away. - The beef is a bit sweet and the vegetables were a bit soft. Personally, I would order the chicken teriyaki next time.

Ron L.

Yelp
I ordered food for the men in a training I was providing, the food was terrible, from under cooked orange chicken to small portions, none of the 9 meals were acceptable. After returning to the office one meal was missing and I had to drive back. They gave me a can of coke for my trouble
google avatar

Jude N.

Yelp
It's definitely delicious. It's a nice little spot to get lunch. Each dish is about $15. Not too expensive nor too cheap either. But still I imagine I would come here a lot if I work nearby.
google avatar

Rick K.

Yelp
I have visited Nikko Teriyaki previously, and I just have to publicly state how excellent their food is. This visit I ordered the sweet and sour chicken and it was fabulous. The teriyaki dishes that I have ordered in the past have also been excellent. I just don't think you can go wrong with any of the menu options, which are several. The restaurant is definitely not fine dining. There are four tables to sit at and you order at the counter. The food is served in to go boxes. But wow...the food is phenomenal and continues to draw a consistent flow of customer traffic.
google avatar

Janah W.

Yelp
Beef teriyaki lunch bowl. It's good but it's 2.00 dollars more than chicken portion wise think small for 11.00 the people on the phone are hard to understand so just make it simple. It's always busy and is quite good. Not enough veggies tho.
google avatar

Yelp
Best Teriyaki in WS by far. They have teriyaki and Chinese dishes. My son's favorite is the Katsu Chicken and orders it everytime.
google avatar

Thuy N.

Yelp
It's rare that I'm in the area, but figured to pick up lunch for mother and I after my appointment. I debated if I should stick with the teriyaki we usually go to, or try something since there's an abundance of teriyaki in many corners. Yelp has lead me here, and the food was pretty good. The credit card machine was down, and a customer did not have cash app to pay. I'm assuming the owner's son told him to go ahead and pay them next time. Saaaay what? How nice of him, even though the customer says he would have his wife cash app him. Talk about good customer service. I would totally recommend this place if you're in the area.

Yelp
Venturing from California and tried to find the best teriyaki. Gotta say this is my top 3. It was just a tad salty for me since I don't eat rice but my sister said it was very good. Not too saucy. A little charred just how I like it. We took it to Alki nearby for a quick picnic. Will be my go to spot when I'm back in the Seattle area.

Yelp
I love this place! My family has been coming here for over 15 years. Parking can be a bit tricky but so worth getting to this place. The go to move has always been to order ahead and pick up to go. However, there are a couple of small tables you can eat at inside. My go to meal is the spicy chicken teriyaki. Good level of spice, I love the char on the chicken. The portions are reasonable for the price. I'm truly amazed at the consistency of the sauces over the years. I'm obsessed with their salad dressing, I always get extra to eat with the rice. The people are always friendly here and service is very quick. Hands down one of my favorite teriyaki spots in the city.

Just S.

Yelp
Is it me or the chubby Korean dude does not like Asians, but he was super friendly to the white guy before me. Every time I order, he's fn rude AF. I just tried to order now but he convinced me not to order because it was a 35 minute way, but he proceeded to take the next two orders behind me. Wtf. What an a**hole. Just sayin
google avatar

Monique A.

Yelp
Reliable and delicious takeout! It's always quick, always good, nothing fancy - just take out teriyaki!
google avatar

Linette R.

Yelp
Recently moved to Seattle and this is my first time having teriyaki since moving to Seattle and I must say it was delicious. I ordered the chicken breast teriyaki platter and I was pleasantly surprised. I decided to go with the chicken breast vs. the thigh but the chicken was still moist but perfectly charred grilled. The teriyaki sauce wasn't too sweet or salty, perfectly balanced. The salad, though just lettuce was crisp and fresh with the best dressing you could have asked for to balance the savory from the chicken. I will definitely be coming back.

Jayson H.

Yelp
This place is great. I live across the street from Nikko Teriyaki and have eaten here multiple times a month for the last 20 months. Not one bad experience. Not one missed order or less-great-than-expected item. The food is always freshly prepared, consistent and delicious. My partner and I normally order the spicy chicken teriyaki dinner, an order of pork fried rice, and a side salad (with that delicious, drinkable dressing I would take shots of if left alone with it for long!!) This order feeds us both dinner and at least one of us lunch the next day (depending on who gets to it first). ((Sometime I just have it for breakfast. I'm about that 'Yaki life!)) The only "negative" thing I could think of is they are busy. That is not a bad thing though. They've got a tight, family-run operation and my order is ready in "15-20 minutes" (from the phone call) every time. I'm moving to another neighborhood in West Seattle but will still come back to the Alaska Junction for Nikko Teriyaki. Eat here. Drink the dressing. You're welcome.

Yelp
Wishing you guys can expand to California, I've never had good teriyaki until Nikko's. Lived in West Seattle for about a year and definitely ate at Nikko's 3-4 times a month! Since I been back to San Francisco, definitely craving that familiar taste... delicious salad, perfect amount of sauce on the rice and the large portions of spicy chicken teriyaki. Will definitely stop by anytime I visit Seattle, I love this place. The family that own this place is super nice too, wish y'all the best! :)

Yelp
Delicious teriyaki! Favorite teriyaki spot in WS. Service is quick! Seating is limited, so we usually just take to go.

Paula B.

Yelp
It's a take-out place, so all that's important is the quality of the food and service. Both are at least a 4 and usually a 5. Love it! I like that I can park easily at Jefferson Square to pick up.

Yelp
It's an odd thing to get excited about, but when I heard teriyaki chicken was A Thing in Seattle, I was determined to do something of a teriyaki chicken tour once I got there for a trip. I fucking love a good teriyaki chicken, and at least for me, good ones are rare. So when I heard y'all were fanatics, I primed myself to be amazed. I tried three of the top-rated casual places that specialize in it (also Grillbird and Okinawa), and I guess I would say Nikko was my favorite because the chicken was at least somewhat tender and had a good grilled taste. Here's the thing, though: I wasn't blown away by any of these. Maybe it's the nature of creating quick service food. But it's very surprising how sort-of dry the chicken was from these places (Grillbird was the worst offender in this category). It's really hard to dry out thigh meat. Of course, it's easier to dry it out if it's skinless, which all of these were. To me, teriyaki chicken is skin-on, boneless thighs, ideally brined first before grilling. You get the crispiness of the skin with the tenderness of juicy, flavorful meat, with a bit of rendered fat, and a sweet (at least in the American conception of teriyaki) glaze. It is rich and succulent. None of these places was like that. Don't get me wrong, the chicken at each of these places was good, and I'd eat it again, most likely. I was just hoping to be wowed, and I wasn't. I've since started noticing that people refer to "Seattle-style" teriyaki. So maybe the way y'all conceive of teriyaki is just different and I just have to adjust my expectations. But whatever it is that Seattle is doing, to my taste, Nikko did it the best, with Okinawa a close second. Four stars for being best in class in my opinion and also very homey, nice service.

Yelp
Insanely good Teriyaki! This has become a go-to staple in our home. The prices are great, the food is better, the service is always friendly and reasonable on time. We tried this on recommendation from a friend and it did not disappoint. We have gone back several times now and have enjoyed each visit. Their prices are very reasonable for the portions. Our go to order is now: spicy chicken teriyaki, tofu teriyaki, and an order of veggie tempura. All of which come out hot from the kitchen and stay hot enough for our quick drive home. Everything tastes fresh and does not leave you with that MSG fog and bog afterward. The main dishes are a great price as are the sides. If you need a little extra meat, perhaps to have some leftovers for your lunch tomorrow, you can order just a side o sweet and sour chicken to add on top of your tasty meal. The tempura is a go to whether you are vegetarian or not and tastes better than a lot of the Udon places in Seattle proper. If it is dinner time, call ahead if you can. If the line is busy, they are probably busy too! But, worry not, for even when we have put in the order in person, the wait time during busy dinner hours was still under thirty minutes and there is a grocery store nearby to run any errands you need to do. Cheers!

Yelp
Ever since the taco del mar shut down NO ONE round these parts could dream of competing with Nikko Teriyaki. Truly a west seattle staple. And trust me...you wanna be asking for extra t-sauce and white salad dressing. Really as much as you can get your hands on they are wonderful together
google avatar

Yelp
Food is great i usual do not eat the salad and ask for a veggie instead. The inside is small with five table to seat two. When I arrive there was two other people waiting. A small group arrive and a line started to form outside the door. The customer service is ok.. The young man seemed to be in a hurry to get off the phone when each phone order. He was very short and loud. I placed my around 8:05pm my order was ready by 8:15pm

Yelp
Good food and quick service Chicken teriyaki is always on point and not over cooked. Two thumbs up

Yelp
This place is always delicious. The katsu is so underrated. Always crispy to perfection. My go to is the 50/50 katsu teriyaki to get best of both worlds. Portions are generous

Yelp
Order like once a week. Love their fast service and great food. It's walkable from our home and we love ordering out for lunch or dinner. Food is always great and the prices are really good for the portions!

Amrakx M.

Yelp
This teriyaki go to is convenient, tasty and flavorful teriyaki, not overly sweet or salty. The char broiled taste is evident. Vegetable salad that accompanies entrees are fresh and the provided small portion of dressing included is barely adequate, but nice and light. It would be nice to add some Korean side dishes banchan to the menu, such as beansprouts, kimchi, cucumber kimchi, to enhance the menu. All in all, ordering can be hectic and somewhat chaotic due to the large numbers of clients, however, always worth the inconvenience. Nice Korean family that operates the business.

Kate B.

Yelp
My hubby has grabbed two Katsu Chicken combos for him & I every so often since he moved here from Pittsburgh, PA to be with me in October of 2018. Even though it went up in price a bi (inflation) WE LOVE IT!!

Yelp
Hands down. My favorite-ist Yeriyaki ever. A weird thing, after 21 years now in Madison WI, I still wonder WHY Seattle has teriyaki restaurants seemingly as abundant as a Starbucks, and Madison (all the worthwhile ones at least) sports too many to keep track of, and even has a huge array of Asian influenced restaurants. High end and low priced, intermixed. But not a place to be found that really does teriyaki. Here's one point I learned in my very first week upon moving to Madison. Yoshidas teriyaki can't be purchased. It's a standard sauce among any Asian foods items throughout Seattle. As well as other brands. Brands I see here. Those brands, one and all are inferior. All but one. I won't name drop. Yoshida's is a name I'll drop. I made a post it note that was to remind me to purchase some and smuggle it home. But I forgot to read the note yesterday. While on my flight home I suddenly slapped my self in the head, upon realizing my failure. That's not true. But mentally I did do it a couple hours ago. Back to Nikko Teriyaki. Supreme flavor. Perfect caramelization on the pieces of tender chicken. Rice was exactly as it should be. The salad too was actually large enough to call it a salad and not a flavorful ornamental item like some places offer. I didn't visit the restaurant. My sister grabbed if for me after I requested she stop anywhere and grab me some teriyaki. I requested another chain by name, but probably due to proximity she chose this place. I think she even mentioned it was possibly a higher priced joint. I just now perused the menu and there's no way this place was higher, unless the place I named was actually less costly. Regardless, Nikko's prices are NOT high, particularly by what Seattle considers reasonable. Nothing in Seattle is reasonable unless the comparison is NYC SF or Tokyo. Visit. Eat. Enjoy. Thank me. Oh yeah, that last part sounds like I should add it to all my future writings

Zoe R.

Yelp
Food was really good, good portions & the guy checking us out was extremely friendly. Will definitely be making this our regular teriyaki spot!

Jaden M.

Yelp
Going to Nikko's Teriyaki felt like such a wholesome experience! It was the perfect place for a friend and I to stop on a super rainy day for some warm and delicious food, great service from sweet staff, and a cute and intimate setting to enjoy it in. Feels very much like one of those small classic places you find yourself ordering takeout-out from way too often! (Also the egg rolls were so good!)
google avatar

Heather D.

Yelp
It's my go-to for teriyaki. I've always taken it to-go since the dining area is cramps.
google avatar

Teri N.

Yelp
I have to compliment this place! The husband and wife are always so nice to My family and I. We've been coming here for 3 years now. They don't have Kim chee on the menu but always end up bringing some out for us every time we come in, my husband just loves it! We tried many things on the menu and we were never disappointed! Give it a try!!
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
I've come here a few times and every time the food is delicious. It's quick, the people who work there are nice and ask if you need any extra sauces or utensils. They only have 3 tables so I would suggest getting it to go.
google avatar

Sage K.

Yelp
This place has a cult following as it should! When you call the line is often busy so just keep calling!! The char on the chicken is absolutely delicious. But the star for me is the creamy sweet white sauce! THAT mixed with my sriracha on my charred chicken breast ....AMAZING!!!! My go to order is Spicy chicken breast teriyaki! Extra white sauce on the side (:
google avatar

Debbie G.

Yelp
Service is fast and friendly. Teriyaki sauce is just what I want--sticky and sweet! This is one of the most consistantly great teriyaki places around Seattle.
google avatar

Kristin B.

Yelp
One of the places that is now a staple for me is Nikko Teriyaki. My order is always Beef Yakisoba--a dish that became a favorite of mine after visiting Japan as a kid. Every time I do takeout, the order is on time, hot, and delicious. Everything is consistent. The only thing that has ever changed is the type of peppers on top, which is an unconventional ingredient to me, but it works. They don't skimp on noodles, vegetables, or meat. Usually there are leftovers, but some days I am HUNGRY! and this fills me up. Nikko Teriyaki seems to be a neighborhood favorite with a group of people every night waiting for their order to be ready. It surely has become mine. Accessibility: Only doing takeout. Restaurant does not have stairs to enter, but is small. You could have issues maneuvering. To order, you need to call the restaurant, but you can order in-person, too, if that is easier. I do not believe this restaurant has any GF or DF options.

Yelp
THIS PLACE IS BOMB. The food is amazing. The guy working here was cracking us up and super friendly. It was busy the entire time we were there. Will come back soon!

Yelp
Solid "American" style teriyaki and various Chinese dishes as well. Family owned and always seems busy. Been going their for years. Fast turn around for orders. Only a few tables so mostly take out. Good Zoe's portions.

Yelp
I drive several miles out of my way to eat here, even though there are teriyaki places much closer to where I live. This review is a long time coming. I stopped by Nikko today after running errands in the area and was immediately reminded why I love this place; the chicken is juicy with a nice grilled char on the outside; the teriyaki sauce is not too sweet; the rice is perfect; and the plate comes with a basic but good salad. Nikko is consistently delicious and the best teriyaki spot in Seattle. I'm a forever fan.

Lala F.

Yelp
This was my first time coming here, they have really good reviews so I thought it would be good to try it out .I found a fly in the Mongolian beef. They were nice about it and gave me a refund.
