How Richmond Restaurant JewFro Is Working to Bring Together Two Local Histories | Bon Appétit

"Before JewFro opened, there were already restaurants serving Jewish or African food in Richmond, of course. Locals love Perly’s Deli, Africanne on Main, and Nile, among others." - ByEric Ginsburg

This is the comfort food you didn’t know you needed. Some friends and I happened to stop by during a quick trip to Richmond and had one of the best meals in quite a while. The flavors are well rounded and nuanced and all four of us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The vegetarian duo app was great-if you love collards their collards are truly top tier. Really informative about their food and ingredients. Also: I bought a large packet of their berbere Ethiopian chili blend to take home. Used it to make a spicy garlicky honey glaze for smoked chicken wings, and it’s unreal!

An excellent Ethiopian restaurant that I have patronized in all three of its Richmond locations. Too bad they are finally going out of business, but subscribe to their newsletter to be informed of pop up sites and special events.

First time here. The food was very flavorful. They certainly know how to use their spices. We ordered the meat combo with 3 veggies. We included red lentil stew, mushrooms, and green beans and carrot. We also tried the cheese appetizer which we really liked. They also make a good cup of coffee and chai.

Wow wow wow. This place - the staff, food, quality, service, etc. - is amazing. My husband and I visited Richmond and were excited to try this place! When we arrived they told us that the brunch menu was available, so we tried a few things and were blown away by it all. So much so that we decided to visit again for dinner! Every employee was above and beyond kind and personable. We will most definitely be back and can't wait to try everything else on the menus.

Had a fantastic meal here the other day, as I do every time. We ordered the Ayib Tikel to start with and they are truly morsels of joy! We both shared a veggie combo plate and by the end it was all gone. The folks who create this fabulous food are so warm and friendly. Love this place every time I eat here. If you want food that will delight your belly and sooth your soul, this is the place.

Great Ethiopian restaurant, food was amazing! We were greeted kindly right away, the menu was perfectly simple. Great Vegetarian options as well. I recommend the Doro Tibs w/Shiro and Siga Wat. Lovely restaurant can’t wait to be back in Richmond!

This was my first experience with Ethiopian Food and will not be my last. First of all, Beny was very patient and welcoming. He gave me a run down of the menu and suggested things to try. He also explained how to eat the meal. He was very nice. I tried the Vegan Duo, it's listed as an appetizer, but it can stand alone as it's own light meal (I only ate half so I could savor it again later). The meal was so flavorful, I choose the Vegetarian (3) Combo. Every bite was different and stood out on it's own without over powering the other. I took some chili home because I couldn't eat another bite - but didn't want to miss out on a vegan chili made with Quinoa ( 🤗). It's worth the price; I literally have lunch and dinner for tomorrow. I don't know what took me so long to try them out, however I will be eating here again.

100% teff injera ‼️ Super important for people with Celiac like me. Most Ethiopian places in Richmond use a blend. The food here is amazing. First Ethiopian restaurant I’ve ever been to that has salmon tibs. I also ordered the turmeric and ginger lamb which was phenomenal. The service here is great and it really felt like home. I appreciate you all. Thanks for a great late lunch with me and my dad.
