Yelp
If I had any reservations in publicly sharing my earlier review... as of tonight, I no longer do.
I hadn't returned to Nina's since my last encounter with the manager - after which I had promptly called and texted the owner, but had received no response - which prompted me to leave my review. I did receive notice from Yelp that "someone" had tried to get the review taken down and I responded privately to Patrick's comment here, but received no reply from him either.
Tonight my friend and I were only peeking in the window for a moment (keeping our distance), just to see if we might feel comfortable returning to Nina's. As I stated, I was not contacted at all by the owners, except for the above comment, which did not give an actual update on if the manager was still employed.
The owner mentioned above came outside and asked if we had been helped - I said I hadn't been here in a while since I had met him and expressed concerns with the manager. He was immediately *FURIOUS* and said "oh you're the one who left the *nasty* review after promising you wouldn't! And in your review you said that everyone else working here was being sexually harassed, too! You're hurting everyone working here - including the Latin family working in the kitchen!"
The owner continued to berate me and was completely unreasonably angry - I told him I only left a review of my own experiences and tried to show him my review on my phone. He refused to actually speak to me, but just continued shouting and acting very aggressively. I even tried to explain that I had told him the night that we spoke, that I had considered leaving a review after the manager used my face to unlock my phone, but that at the time I did love Nina's so much that I wasn't going too... but only left the review after the owner didn't respond to any of my messages. He claimed he reached out to me, but the only interaction I've had with Nina's is in this comment from Patrick.
The owner also said that I only claimed sexual harassment because I'm friends with the staff and that they had stayed multiple nights at my apartment... this is completely unfounded and frankly, ridiculous. I'm afraid to even mention the staff members' names at this point in case it would get them in trouble, but the vast majority are *lovely* and it was always a delight to see them - but none of them have been to my apartment, let alone stayed the night. But beyond that, I didn't lie in my review. Period.
The owner did tell me that he had gotten rid of the manager so I should be happy, but also continued to say we should find somewhere else to eat... so yeah, even if the manager who continued to act inappropriate isn't there, the owner is even worse than him. I was not hostile to this man and I do not understand why he went completely off.
This would have been such an easy remedy for him - weeks ago they could have responded to any of my messages (which again, after my review, they only responded publicly with this comment and didn't respond to my private reply *OR* my email) and updated me on the status so I could feel safe going there or heck, even walking by. The owner tonight *could* have said, "hey, great to have you back. I hope you feel comfortable here now."
Instead, he accused me of hurting his staff, insisted that I lied in my review about being sexually harassed by their manager, tried to gaslight me and say that he had responded to me, and said that I left a "nasty" review after "I promised I wouldn't". The fact that this man also owns Good Enough to Eat, Big Gay Ice Cream, and Fred's (to name a few), honestly makes me feel uncomfortable walking by any of these places. He had no reason or right to treat me (or anyone else) like this... he even shouted at me tonight that "he's owned restaurants for 30 years so he knows what he's doing." Sadly, clearly, he doesn't.
