How West Side Bazaar Is Changing Hundreds of Lives | Bon Appétit

"Started by Htay Naing, who emigrated from Malaysia after growing up in Arakan state, this Thai stall was the product of years of saving and patience—Naing was waitlisted for three years before opening. The operation became a smash hit at the market, expanded its takeout program during the pandemic with support from the incubator’s resources, and its success enabled Naing to bring his wife to the U.S., buy a house in the Kenmore suburb, and start a family." - ByAlana Pedalino

I have been there several times. If you’re looking for truly authentic Thai food in the U.S., this place is a gem. The flavors are bold, balanced, and just like what you’d find in Thailand—spicy, fragrant, and deeply satisfying. You can tell the dishes are made with care and tradition. The owners are incredibly kind and patient. They take time to explain the menu and are happy to adjust spice levels or offer recommendations. Their warmth really adds to the experience. The atmosphere is peaceful and beautifully decorated, with a clean, spacious layout and a view that makes dining here even more enjoyable. Whether you’re coming for a casual lunch or a relaxing dinner, it’s a great place to unwind and enjoy exceptional Thai cuisine.

The food was amazing and fresh. My noodle soup was delicious. Parking wasn’t a hassle for me, but it could be during peak hours. The food took a little while to come out due to them being short-staffed. The atmosphere was great. I believe they just moved here, and with time, they will likely renovate.

Came across this place and what a wonderful surprise. Food and service were fantastic. Enjoyed the Coconut Shrimp, Red Curry, Pad Thai, Glass Noodle and Thai Iced Teas. Can't wait to come back!

I came here today after craving some pad see ew and shrimp tempura alll week and not want to drive to Allentown for the other Thai spot. I came here once before , food was good, this time not at all. I ordered medium spicy, I got no spice . The sauce on the flat noodles was not how I am used to tasting . It’s like Nine at night decided to make a very American sweet savory type of sauce that they put on everything and change one or two ingredients and name it another dish. It wasn’t good or had any flavor. The portion size was good though. Shrimp was good as well. I should have made the trip to Bamboo ridge instead. Not going back for awhile.

We had a delicious meal at Nine and Night Thai! We made a reservation for 2 and they had our table set up and waiting for us when we arrived. We tried the chicken spring rolls, tempura shrimp, chicken pad thai, and pineapple fried rice with tofu. The portions were large and the food was piping hot when it arrived. Everything was well seasoned and very fresh. Our only bit of feedback was that they seem to be stuck halfway between counter service (order+pay at the counter) and table service (with servers). Everyone was friendly and helpful. We had someone come to our table to take our order, and a runner brought the food to our table, but they didn’t really have traditional servers coming to check in, refill drinks (they sell bottled drinks), etc. Then, when we wanted to pay, it was kind of hard to get someone’s attention and the counter got very crowded and busy as people were putting in orders, getting takeout, etc. So - if you want to do counter service, totally fine - I would just ask all patrons to order and pay at the counter when they choose their dishes instead of something that is half and half. Overall a great meal, an excellent addition to Amherst Street and a great option when attending events in the city or doing something at Buff State.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Nine & Night Thai Cuisine, and it was an absolutely delightful experience. The food was incredibly delicious, bursting with authentic flavors. I was also offered a soothing Jasmine tea, which perfectly complemented the meal. I went with my husband, and he couldn’t stop raving about the Chicken Thai Fried Rice—it’s his favorite! The portion sizes were generous, and every bite was cooked to perfection. If you’re looking for amazing Thai food in a cozy atmosphere, this place is a must-visit! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Food was amazing !!! I definitely would recommend and I can't wait to come back. The service was fast and easy. The restaurant was very clean and wide open. I hope more people come here to try it because I would hate to see it go anywhere.

Yelp
I came here last night with my friend and we had a really nice time. We were seated immediately and were taken care of shortly after that. The only person we saw was the front of house staff member who was also our waitress. She came over infrequently, but that's probably because she was doing everything else, possibly even doing food prep in the back. They had a tiny gluten free menu, but fortunately, the fried rice I wanted was on there. I asked for 1 degree spice (I can't handle heat) and the rice with chicken was delicious, though unfortunately lacking a sauce because the ones that came with the rice must've had gluten. Bummer! Still very yummy, though. The ambiance here is fascinating. The dining area is bright, open, and a great spot for people watching it that's something that you find amusing. Eventually, our waitress came back and took our plates and money. She was pleasant the entire time we were there, despite how stressed she must have been. Very commendable, at least in my mind. I'd love to come back here someday and try this menu out more. It had comparable prices to most Thai places and I definitely saw some other things I wanted to try another time.

Yelp
I had been here once before and it was good. Showed up last night at 7:45 and they wouldn't seat us because he closes at eight. I told him that he'll never make it if they close so early and open so late and just walked out. Uneducated people that don't realize they're closing at 8 PM is ridiculous and not seating at 7:45 PM is more ridiculous.

Yelp
Yelpers seem to love Nine and Night Thai Cuisine. Once part of the beloved West Side Bazaar on Grant Street, which burned down a few years ago. I remember having and enjoying their Thai Beef Salad back then. Now, the restaurant has its own location in the Black Rock neighborhood. It wasn't my first choice for going out on Monday late afternoon. It turned out that most of the restaurants which I wanted to visit were closed on Monday or not for lunch. A surprising discovery. The restaurant is big and spacious, opposite from their previous location. With a limited number of tables and a sparsely decorated interior, it felt empty and cold. Actually, the temperature inside was satisfactory from the beginning. At the end of our stay, someone decided to lower the thermostat, really? It's winter! Overall, I was hoping for a more pleasant dining experience. I needed more than just food this time :). Regarding the food, my two companions strongly wanted to share all of the dishes we ordered. Eventually I agreed to play along. You have to understand, I just wanted my Shrimp Pad Thai to be all for me. That's all :). Then I thought the extra plates were too small. We had to be very precise when putting food on. There was a mess anyway. We tried. In the end, my choice of Shrimp Pad Thai was way too sweet and not my favorite. We liked the Pad See Ew the most. The Tom Yam fried rice was rather boring and nothing special. Besides, in my opinion the pork wasn't tasty. Papaya Salad and Red Curry Soup were both good. The Crab Rangoon? It wasn't my choice, and I don't understand why this is even on the menu ;). The Mango Sticky Rice would be better if it was served freshly made. I remember having it warm in the past. This time it was a cold brick of sticky rice covered with mango and some sweet coconut sauce. Still tasty. We had a server who took care of us to some point. After all our food was delivered, she disappeared. We asked for a bill and paid at the counter.

Yelp
I ordered twice this week. This food is really good so far. I had Thai food in Sacremento and this doesn't taste exactly the same but it's a close runner up. I suppose the food out there taste a little different/ better because they have more access to authentic ingredients. Idk but I've had the pad see ew three times once with chicken, with beef and once with tofu. I personally don't need a protein but my Thai friend told me to try them this way. It's delicious without a protein but I liked the tofu the best. I order the free curry soup with beef and chicken and hot. Baaaabbbbyyyy the heat was spicy. I had to put more coconut milk in it. The spiciness seemed like it over powered the coconut flavor . I had the chicken spring rolls they're were nice and crispy on the outside with soft flavorful ingredients inside. I'll definitely order them again they are good without the sauce. I ll come back with the name of the other dish.

Yelp
Yup! I'm in full agreement with my fellow Yelpers. Great food, pleasant surroundings, friendly and helpful staff. And it's just a short bus ride from my house on #32 Amherst bus, but you can take #3 Grant and walk a short distance from Grant and Amherst St.

Yelp
First thing I notice looking at the menu is that all of the dishes have the same sauces in them, same veggies, etc. just different hints or flavor (pineapple, basil, coconut, etc.) Fried Chicken dumplings 9/10 Deep fried, not pan fried. Really good, no complaints. Crispy chicken spring roll 10/10 Delicious, no complaints. Fried tempura shrimp 8/10 Tastes mostly like breading. I can't really taste the shrimp at all. Thai fried rice, mild, with chicken 10/10 Delicious. Chicken was good too, tender and soft. No heat. The rice also isn't super wet or saucy, it was on the dryer side. Would definitely eat this again! Thai fried rice, medium, with beef 7/10 Also delicious but the amount of heat was a little more than a medium, the spiciness builds as you keep eating it. Beef was ok, sliced thin, little overcooked and not super flavorful. Asked for some peanut sauce on the side, pretty sure they forgot to see if they even had any. Thai Basil fried rice 9/10 Not bad, again rice isn't saucy, the basil flavor came in towards the end of the bite, but also not super basil-y either. Fried udon noodles, no spice, with chicken 6/10 I have determined that I do not like udon noodles, so my rating probably isn't fair. The noodles are thick and gummy, and I don't like that. It's like biting into a gummy worm. The flavor of the dish was good though, saucy, and the chicken was not bad. The chicken was sliced thin, the thicker pieces were good, the thinner pieces were just a tad overcooked but not much.

Yelp
My FAVORITE Thai spot, hands down. This is literally my 5th year obsessing over this spot. The owner knows me by name when I call atp. My go to dish is the Pad Ka Pow EXTRA spicy with extra sauce. It never disappoints. I typically get beef or chicken but I've even had the shrimp too! I'm a full circle fanatic. I absolutely love that with this new location he's open M-F. This is the one spot I know will consistently have the same taste for the food every single time.

Yelp
By far the best Thai food in the city. Delicious, good sized portions, reasonably priced. Highlights are the pad see ew, Thai iced tea and the mango sticky rice. I was devastated when they closed down after the fire in the West Side Bazaar and so happy to see them in their new location in Black Rock.

Yelp
Friend brought me in.. since I love Thai food. And the menu isn't that big BUT let me tell you the favor is all there!! I love the house made crab crab Ragu! It was flavored and great filling. The green curry is enough for two ppl and it was very taste and fresh. I enjoyed it all. For boba I had the avocado tea . The flavor was on point and one of my best tasting avocado boba. The ambience is rustic. With some nice artwork on the walls.

Yelp
On a bike ride with friends, we stopped here for lunch. We were greeted warmly. The dining room is comfortable and good for groups or single diners. The food was plentiful! We had three different fried rice dishes and one noodle dish, and each one was excellent. I'd hoped to bring home leftovers, but My basil fried rice (medium spicy) was so tasty I couldn't stop eating. We all agreed we'd return.

Yelp
Amazing food, so delicious, and the nicest owner! This place used to be in the West Side Bazaar, and happily they have re-opened in a new location. Go check them out! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Not sure what I missed, but I was looking forward to trying this place and brought my extended family. Service was pleasant, but not great. No refills on water or gathering of dirty plates. People who ordered pho seemed content, but my penang curry was the most watery and tasteless that I've ever had. More like bland soup with a tiny handful of rice on the side. Hope you have better luck!

Yelp
This place is very appealing. The menu is easily visible on a large chalkboard when you enter, and it's easy to read. The words are neatly printed without the usual messiness that results from erasures. The walls are a soothing pale teal color sporting delicate brown tree branches and tiny white lights. There is plenty of room as the space is not crammed with tables and chairs. It's also nice and clean. I'm pretty careful about the amount of spiciness in my food, however, the rest of my family loves it. So, I ask for little spice and, I actually got that today. My dish was delicious, and my mouth wasn't set on fire. I had the fried Mama noodles with chicken and veggies. My friends made other selections that they enjoyed as well. I was so happy to see that the vegetables in my dish were nice and fresh with a nice crunch to them (not soggy). The crispy spring rolls were a delicate brown-not greasy, and the Thai tea was yummy. I forgot to mention that our food was ready without a long wait. The prices were very reasonable, and the owner is welcoming and very willing to accommodate our requests. I will definitely visit Nine and night again.

Yelp
I love this place, I have eaten here numerous times. I'm never disappointed. One of my favorite dishes is the black pepper beef-the flavor is immaculate. Staff is friendly, the place is always clean. Great addition to the neighborhood. I would probably order even more but every time I think about it, it's either after 8pm, or it's a Sunday which they are closed.

Yelp
Wanted to find a new Thai spot in North Buffalo and read a great review so gave it a try. The location is bright and clean with plenty of tables to eat in if you wish. We ordered Chicken fried rice, pad Thai and spring rolls. The vegetables were fresh and crisp and the flavor was excellent. My daughter loved the Watermelon bubble tea! Warning: even the level one mild had a bit of spice. The staff was friendly and the food was ready quickly. We will be back!

Yelp
Ordered takeout tonight. Wow - I think it was the best Thai food I've ever had. You should eat here. Soon.
