Nine Hours Otemachi | Best places to stay in Tokyo

"The capsule hotel gets a slick reboot at this chain with branches in Shinjuku, Asakusa, and other handy locations in Tokyo. Admittedly, sleeping in a pod that’s 220cm deep, 110cm tall and 110cm wide won’t be everybody’s cup of tea, but if claustrophobia isn’t an issue the sleek-industrial design and gender-separated sleeping areas make Nine Hours a great budget option. And while capsule hotels are ordinarily a single-night refuge for businesspeople working or drinking after the last train, multi-night stays are possible. That said, with 10 branches in and around the city, it can also be a cheap way to hop one night at a time around different neighborhoods, and the Narita Airport branch is very handy if you arrive late or fly out early. Fairly English friendly! If you have a suitcase, I would stray away, the lockers in the bathrooms can't fit anything larger than a small carry on. Capsules are okay, but can get very warm as there's no fan in them. Capsules have a curtain and not a door as shown in pics. This place almost feels like the rooms from Squid Game! The free breakfast was a nice perk. For the price it's fine, but I would not stay here longer than 2 nights.

There is no sound protection from the hallway expect for a thin black out curtain! Expect to hear your neighbors all the way down the hallway. There also wasn't anywhere to open your suitcase except for on the floor so I would suggest packing an overnight bag so you can use that instead of laying your bag down. The bathroom showers were also a bit moldy so I didn't feel super great about showering. It's a good location though and the staff is very kind.

Overall it’s a very nice place to stay short term. Everything was very clean and the location of the hotel is great. The locker system was very useful too. My biggest complaint would be the curtains used for the actual capsules. I thought it would be a door, but it’s just a curtain. The curtain makes it very easy to hear everybody so it can be very loud at night if you have neighbors. You can hear everything, it felt like I could hear every time somebody breathed. Somebody woke my up as they had hiccups at 3 am and I couldn’t fall back to sleep and my husband had the same problem with somebody snoring near him. Additionally, do not get the included breakfast option, it’s redeemable for a tiny biscuit and a tiny coffee from a shop a few blocks away. It’s not worth the money and you’re better off at a Family mart for breakfast. Besides those two things, staff is really kind and helpful and all kinds of amenities are provided.

Overall, the experience was well. We were curious about the service offered on the website about being provided a monitored test performance on our sleep. We saw it advertised on the site, but didn't receive any type of test results as the website said. We also thought the doors to the pods would be latches like in the pictures for the location we were at, but it was just a pull down curtain-like drape. The beds were comfy and nice though! The facility was clean, well staffed and provided clean towels, pajamas and toothbrush.

The hotel in general was clean and comfortable. The capsule is pretty big. The staff was very kind. However, 9hs Hotel needs to work on one aspect, sustainability. I stayed for 5 nights, it was sad to see many unused toothbrush, toothpaste and slippers in the trash every morning. I suggest you ask the client if he'll need them or not. In my case I brought my own and even if I didn't, I could have received a single toothbrush kit and a pair of slippers instead of 5 that went directly to the trash.

The price point for the service fits. My major frustration is space limitation, especially when it comes to packing and unpacking in the locker area. There should be at least a broad counter for people to organize, pull out, or repack their belongings without having to use the floor or sink area for their suitcases because it blocks others from accessing their locker. Additionally, a bench or stool in the locker would be great when we need to slip on shoes/slippers, but space is the limiting factor. Also, if people aren't supposed to be eating or drinking in the capsule area--then that policy should be enforced. I heard a guy gulping down water from his water bottle for a while. Aside from my observations, the bathrooms were clean, shower was great, and the overall facility was clean. I'd consider using a capsule in the future.

This was my first and I felt like in a blade runner movie. The rooms and facilities aren’t for the claustrophobes and large or people taller than 1m90. The location is great in the financial center and close to the imperial palace and metro stations. It’s a clean and quiet place. You will need an adaptor for the American type B plugs. I would bring a pair of plastic slippers for the showers. The hotel provides you with pyjamas and towels as well as slippers and toothbrush kit changed daily. You must check out daily from 10am to 2 pm. Your belongings can remain on the provided locker which doesn’t fit much as very narrow. Your suitcase would remain at the lobby facility. I took the breakfast option which is at the Glitch coffee, where you are served delicious coffees from a large variety. It is served with a packed slice of banana bread or cake. Overall it was a fun experience. You might hear some snoring in the night, so the hotel provides earplugs. I was using noise cancellation headphones

I'm an American visiting Japan for the first time and was a bit nervous about getting around due to my very basic grasp of English. Akiyama-san at the front desk was very helpful at check in, using Google Translate to overcome the language barrier. As others have mentioned, the space is tiny, both in your individual pod and in the communal locker room, but that's to be expected with a capsule hotel. You can keep large suitcases at the front desk for safe keeping, which is super helpful. Overall, I'd recommend staying here because: 1) it's a bargain given the location and the amenities; and 2) it's a fun experience unlike traditional hotels.
