The Best Dishes Eater Boston’s Editor Ate in July 2025 | Eater Boston

"Yes, you should go to Marissa Ferola’s long-awaited Korean American bakery, which just opened in Huron Village this summer, for the baked goods. But the coffee program is equally worth lining up for. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen a coffee program billed as cocktail-esque in its execution, but in practice, the idea typically translates into a longer-than-usual wait time for a pour over. Not so at Nine Winters. The Jeju Island involves a small dollop of orange marmalade mixed with a salted coffee tonic and poured over ice; the flavor profile was unlike any coffee I’d had before — fizzy, salty, a bit sweet, and a whole lot of fun. I had sipped half the drink before my brain was convinced that this was, in fact, a coffee, and I’m already eyeing the Galbi, featuring a fat-washed medium roast coffee, for my next visit." - Erika Adams

The Most Anticipated Restaurant Openings in Boston, Spring 2025 | Eater Boston

"Marissa Ferola, already known for pop-ups at Somerville’s Bow Market and Cambridge ice cream shop Honeycomb Creamery, is opening a permanent bakery at 292 Concord Avenue in Cambridge. Expect pastries (including treats like black sesame chocolate chip cookies and decadent slices of chocolate makgeolli cake spiked with the Korean drink) and photogenic doughnuts she’s sold at prior pop-ups, plus top-notch coffee programs featuring Cambridge’s Broadsheet roastery and Bard out of Portland, Maine, with plans to eventually spotlight Korean and Korean American roasters. Drinks will include a bright espresso tonic inspired by Jeju Island, featuring a salted marmalade made in-house and muddled with the tonic. There will also be a light lunch and dinner menu, and Ferola is on the lookout for local chefs who don’t yet have their own brick-and-mortar spaces to do pop-up dinners at the bakery, with priority given to those who “are focused on a cultural concept,” according to Ferola." - Erika Adams

Google
I love Nine Winters. The menu is an innovative and playful line up of drinks, pastries, and food and all of it is executed impeccably. The owner, Marissa, is kind and community-centered, and her story & values show up in every aspect of the shop. Longer food review is below, but tldr: every item on the menu is worth trying here. The Jeju Island and Galbi drinks are so yummy and contain flavor notes I haven’t had at any other coffee shop in the Boston area. The pastries are incredible, I especially loved the Curry Lace Oat cookie — an unexpected pairing of flavors and textures that go so well together. I’m looking forward to coming by on a weekend to try their donuts (rotating flavors weekly). As for their food, I can probably eat their house salad every day, and don’t even get me started on their deviled eggs. Don’t be scared off my the Gochujang bolognese, it’s not spicy but retains the umami-ness of the Korean chili paste.

Nine Winters is a splendid fusion of flavors and creativity. I love the Korean inspired menu, the combination of sweet with savoury and sometimes spicy is just delectable. There are also often milder flavors for those who are shy about trying new things. The coffee is smooth and rich, I recommend mocha sesame sauce to go with it. I personally am a huge fan of the egg bun and peanut butter chili crisp cookie. The staff are so patient, kind, and professional. They're truly a bright spot on a dreary day. Marissa herself is often present and frankly a super cool woman, I look forward to seeing her. The aesthetic of the bakery also charms me, it's light, airy, but has a calm and whimsical atmosphere.

Stopped in on the 3rd day that this place opened - the owner was manning the front counter and we had a lovely chat with her. Opted for an iced coffee, and iced chai, the Korean garlic bread and black sesame cookie. Everything was fresh and tasty. A wonderful addition to the neighborhood!

Came in last week and was happy to find free two hour parking right out front. The space has great artwork on the walls and the service was super friendly and attentive. I grabbed four pastries, really loved the morning bun and the apple blondie (check the photo). Marissa, the owner, was welcoming and clearly knows her stuff. She mentioned the menu is updating soon, so I’ll definitely be back to see what’s new. Didn’t get a coffee this time, but they had plenty of drink options. Looking forward to coming back as the year goes on!

Google
Very intriguing pastries and drinks at this Korean American Bakery! It doesn’t just sprinkle little bits of “Asian flavors” here and there, the flavors are front and center so be ready to be blown away because this is on another level!

Google
My wife and I were excited to try this place but ultimately came away disappointed. There is limited seating, and the service at the front was quite slow during our visit (it took ~10 minutes to get through the two groups ahead of us in line). Once we ordered, however, we received our food quickly: gochujang bolognese, Korean deviled eggs, and a black sesame chocolate chip cookie. The cookie was fine - it was soft and sweet but not particularly chocolatey. The two savory dishes were tasty but overpriced. The bolognese portion size was comically small: it contained maybe 8 bites total. For a "meal" that cost nearly $30, we were expecting a lot more.

Google
I’m so happy this place is open. I’ve known the owner for a bit, so I’m happy Nine Winters finally opened. I stopped by for a quick brekkie. I was hoping they would have the garlic bread but alas it was not in the cards. I got a ginger cookie and an injeolmi donut instead. The cookie was bursting with spicy, gingery tang. I loved the flavor, and the cookie itself was chewy but not soft. The donut was a unique texture. Almost mochi like with light springiness. There wasn’t too much injeolmi taste, though. It was almost like a glazed donut. And it was hot to the top so super fresh. I’d love to stop by again to try the garlic bread or a drink!

Google
so excited that there's a Korean-American bakery in the area- forgot to take a photo BEFORE we dug in. the garlic bread was 10/10 could eat one million of those. the oatmeal curry, peanut butter chili crisp, and vanilla ssuk cookies were also delicious!

Yelp
Cute bakery located in Bow Market with Korean influence in a lot of their pastry choices. We came at the end of the day so I assume the selection wasn't as plentiful as they could be, but there still were a decent amount of items to choose from. The girl working was friendly and patient as well - good service from start to finish. I bought the milk bread and cookie as they looked decent and I was craving something sweet. Neither item was disappointing persay, but I will say they weren't fantastic or worth the price I think. The cookie was a bit dry and the sesame wasn't a super apparent flavor, but it wasn't bad. The bread was dense and not super flavorful either - not much of a chili taste. Overall, I didn't find this spot to be fantastic or a must-go-to, however I found the items I purchased to satisfy my craving and I'm glad I tried them. I wouldn't mind going back to see what other things they have available, but I won't be going out of my way to return and would likely only go if I was already in the area.

Yelp
I have been dying to try this place for a while now. Their instagram photos and descriptions of the flavors are superb. I was excited that my time had come to try some of their baked goods. I got two black sesame chocolate chip cookies, one double chocolate hot honey, one mugwort + turmeric, and two pieces of the garlic bread. The black sesame cookies looked gorgeous, but sadly were flavorless and a bit dry. The double chocolate hot honey didn't have any hot honey flavor and the texture was almost like play dough... a very odd texture I'd never eaten before. The mugwort and turmeric was equally unappealing. I didn't finish either of the last two kinds of cookies. The bread I revived by heating up in tin foil in our toaster oven and had it for breakfast with eggs. It was the only thing I'd say that was any good, but I did notice the amount of oil a previous poster mentioned (see photo). You can visibly see a layer of oil at the top... maybe from the garlic butter? Ours wasn't soaked like the previous person said she experienced, but it was definitely there.

Yelp
No reviews yet? What?! I had the Korean garlic bread back in April 2023 and it was amazing. Came back to get the garlic bread in July and found out that it runs out fast. Makes sense because it is DELICIOUS. Will be back in the AM! I got a bunch of cookies, a sticky bun, and the cheddar kimchi croissant. The double chocolate hot honey cookie was amazing. Loved the kimchi cheddar croissant too! Wouldn't get the peanut butter chili crisp cookie again. It's a little pricey like $4-5ish per treat but worth trying as they are unique and have great flavors.

Yelp
Cute bakery at Bow Market but wasn't really impressed by the cookies I tried. I bought the sesame chip cookie and the double chocolate honey one and neither stood out. They were a bit dry for my taste as I prefer more chewier cookies. They have some savory options but my interests always lie in the sweet options.

Yelp
Thrilled that we have such options here in Somerville - pushing my palette to the cutting edge and introducing new flavors! Went with the triple spice cookie - which is awesome, nice chewy cookie with a slight delay of spice (that is flavorful but not burning) Then tried the Jam Bun - with the vanilla bean cream and juju bean jam, which reminded me as a Parisian Korean pancake. Can't wait to go back. Love what this baker is doing that is different than every other bakery out there. Keep it up!

Yelp
Cute shop, and the flavors sound so appealing, but the execution is terrible. Korean garlic bread was just absolutely soaked in oil. To what end, I'm unsure, as it wasn't fried or flavorful, so why so much oil. Kimchi and cheese danish was a very bad danish, totally soggy and mushy.

Yelp
Very expensive so we just grabbed a cookie and it was a let down. Very doughy and bland.

Yelp
The spicy sticky buns are amazing! They are not too sweet, the spice adds flavor and a little kick, and it's fun to pull them apart and eat them piece by piece. Brilliant! Alas it is Tuesday so I have to wait two days to savor them again. This is one of my favorite places at Bow Market.

Yelp
Absolutely worth the visit. The cookies are very good but the savory items are absolutely not to be missed. I've shared them with friends who have called them things such as "culinary genius" and "if a rice krispie treat ascended and became a god" . I'm particularly fond of the garlic bread and pork floss buns. Yes, slightly more expensive than mass produced goods, but you're supporting local and getting something you absolutely can't get anywhere else. Do yourself a favor and stop in.
