Angry Bagel Guy From Long Island Chris Morgan Reportedly Lives in a Van and Hates a ‘Greedy Bimbo’ | Eater NY

"A local directed me to Nino's Deli in Bay Shore as the spot where he parks a red 2008 Chrysler Town & Country minivan and uses the bathroom; he presumably stays there when not running the cleaning business he links on his Twitter bio." - Serena Dai

I fell in love last Thursday... and I fell hard. 🤣 Mom & pop deli, Italian, owner-run (they make the sandwiches in front of you), family business... they care. Full stop. We were 10, taking the food on the road, to-go. First timers, if you will. Dom & Barbara treated us like family. We had 4 of our kids, 3 hungry seminarians, and a lot of food to order. With chips and drinks, it averaged to about 15 bucks a head... totally worth every penny. House-made from an authentic, legit Italian bakery they owned (or family did; in back of same/adjoining building) with homemade Russian dressing on a house-made Kaiser bun (hard roll). Plus, the shrimp salad special was almost all shrimp and no celery or Mayo; I'm not kidding. In fact, I asked if it was made with a bunch of fillers, and she said no, no, there's a good amount of shrimp in it, and she actually undersold that statement by a lot. I ate it so fast I didn't have time to take a picture. LOL My son had had a ham, cheese, mayo, and tomato, sandwich on a homemade Sub roll (soft roll). Usually at other Deli places he wouldn't get a large sandwich because he wouldn't finish them, but he had a small and decided that he would have eaten two more sandwiches had they been given to him. Certainly would have been able to polish off a large sandwich easily. She got a normal sandwich that you would probably get at a deli if you were just ordering one on a regular day or a regular basis, but it tasted so different and tasted so delicious and scrumptious, that's why he wanted two or three more sandwiches. And he wasn't kidding. The rest of our group got a chicken parmesan sandwich, more ham sandwiches, a couple of chicken cutlet sandwiches, and a pastrami sandwich that was out of this world to die for good. I am super picky and super particular, and I am very discreet with the number of five-star reviews that I give, especially to food places. I would put their sandwiches up against places in Manhattan at some of the most world-renowned delis. The roast beef is just simply unstoppable with her homemade Russian dressing. It pains me that these one-star reviews come in for a place when maybe they were busy or you have a personal problem with the owners, and that's not fair. These people are great folks who run an excellent small family business. We hope and pray that we come back to Albany for many other lunch and dinner take out occasions with these people. Keep up the excellent work. You are the heart and soul of what makes great local American restaurants The Talk of the Nation.

Google
Awesome local small business, very quick service, and high quality subs, the bread especially is a high point. Delicious food served with a smile. Makes sense they’ve been in business for 30 years. If you go to subway or jersey mikes over Ninos , you’re out of your damn mind

I have been a customer of Ninos deli for years !! They have always treated me like family plus the food is absolutely fresh and delicious I have never ever had a complaint. And don't think will either ❤️

Google
Always a top notch submarine sandwich.

Google
3.5/5 My breaded chicken sandwich was pretty good but the bread quality and the chicken quality could have been better. Same quality you'd get for very cheap at a grocery store. Overall the sandwich was solid and I would give this place another try

Google
So much has changed with no more boars head meat, shredded lettuce, etc. The way the sandwich was put together looked like something that came out of a school cafeteria/ gas station on thesideoftheroad. However, the bread is still great. Not sure where the original owners went, and if they have just " fell back" quality control is at all time low.

Google
I think this is one of the best subs in the area! Bread is fresh and amazing, simple and quick. Great flavors especially love their oil dressing. Support your local businesses! This place is worth it.

Yelp
Fantastic subs! The bread is fresh and the perfect texture, meat piled high, with good quality lettuce and tomatoes. Service is fast and staff is friendly. I think these are some of the best subs in the area and can't wait to try out more of the sandwich menu!

Yelp
Stuck next door at Kia for service and found this GEM! I only tried one item-the capicola sub. Delicious and well made. Nice guy to talk with. Will be back again. Thank you!

Yelp
Italian sandwiches and subs are still pretty new to me. Sure, the area is filled with delis that will make you all kinds of cold cut sandwiches to order. Perhaps I was paralyzed by all the possibilities. To make a long story short, I'm triangulating my way towards a favorite cold cut sub. At this point I know that it's not the standard "Italian Mix". I've learned to ask for the "fatty cappy" which gets you actual capicola instead of the weird spicy ham that Boar's Head makes. It's a tragedy that so many of our best delis rely on this national supplier of processed meats and cheeses. Also specifying sharp provolone is the only way to make sure you'll get a cheese on your sandwich that can stand up to the flavor of the cured meats. Nino's had both of these, and sliced them to order. Sandwiches also need to have shredded iceberg lettuce, onion, oil, and vinegar in order to cut through some of that fat. Nino's delivered on these too. And that's important because some delis have moved over to fancier leaf lettuce that just gets lost in all of that meat and cheese. I think my sandwich may also need something else, but I'm still trying to figure that out. Maybe some other meat to round out the cappy, like perhaps a prosciutto. I'm not sure. But I can't blame Nino's while I figure that out. Soon, I will learn to stop asking for those sad round reddish slices that pass for tomatoes. And thanks to Nino's for reminding me. It's a hard lesson, but an important one. The bread was good for coalescing around the sandwich and letting the fillings be the star of the show. I got mine on a roll. But I think these Italian sandwiches really require commitment. My goal was to be moderate, however this breed of sandwich seems to be a go big or go home kind of experience. Overall, Nino's feels more like a 3.5* Capital Region deli, but I'm bumping it up for being an old school holdout on this deeply commercialized strip of Central Avenue. It's a deli attached to a bread bakery. They have great old sausage making equipment, and a counter where you can stand and eat your sandwich overlooking the gridlock of cars trying to navigate an especially congested part of the local thoroughfare. Although I can imagine that not everyone would be as thoroughly charmed by the joint.

Yelp
Just stopped by Albany this week and needed a quick bite to eat. I found this place because it was the closest near me at the time but wow what an unexpected great treasure! Food was excellent you can tell the quality was good. Very clean inside and very nice employees. The young man behind the counter had excellent customer service reviews. What a hidden treasure of Albany!

Yelp
Great business. Great Mom & Pop Shop. Only a few of these gems left in Albany, it's a must stop by.

Yelp
"Very disappointed. Owner who waited on me was not wearing a mask. I asked her why and she said that they were all "family" and therefor didn't need to wear one. As I was not family, I will not be returning.

Yelp
The best subs in Albany by far!! Try adding black olives and sweet red peppers! A million times better than Subway!

Yelp
I used to love this place until today. I stopped in to get deli meat and sandwiches for dinner. The shop wasn't crowded but no one inside was wearing masks or social distancing. The employee behind the counter who always waits on me also did not have a mask on and was preparing food. I walked in and out sooo fast! I will not be returning to this place ever again.

Yelp
I ordered a 4 foot sub with Mac salad party platter and cookie platter for a party I was having. The bread was super good. The Munster cheese excellent. Everyone loved the sub (turkey, tomatoes, Munster) and the pasta salad was excellent. Bonus was that the women who runs the place was so so friendly. I would 100% order a sub from here again for an event. On another occasion I had a hot chicken parm sub and wasn't as much of a fan. But everything else we had was amazing.

Peter H.

Yelp
I was looking forward to this place, food looked good, looked like just what I was hoping to find. Unfortunately, no one working inside was wearing a mask including the man who made the sub I ordered. I was hoping he'd put one on before he went to work. He didn't. I decided to err on the safe side and tossed the sub away uneaten and don't plan to go back for the foreseeable future. (Yeah, probably I should have said something. However, during the pandemic my temper has been shorter and worse than I realize sometimes so I've taken to avoiding confrontations as my reactions can make them worse.)

John G.

Yelp
No Masks, and the quality has gone down considerably. This place used to be maybe 3 stars, but now its not worth even going. The draw is the bread they buy from the bakery around the corner. Service? rude/take it or leave it attitude. How any foodservice place will make you something without wearing a mask nowadays is crazy, but they seem to not care. Price? $10 for a footlong sub that has cheapo Jennie-O or Butterball meat. They sell BoarsHhead but won't put it on the sandwich unless you pay extra. Do yourself a favor and try Andy's, Cardona's, Fiorello's or maybe even Panera instead of this place.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. My very first experience with this deli was delicious! I ordered a small roast beef sub and it was amazing! They cut their own meat so the roast beef was medium with some pink, just the way I like it. I also added some lettuce, tomatoes, Italian seasoning, etc. I'm traveling tomorrow, so I will pick up one of these subs for lunch on the road!!!!

Yelp
Overall a great Deli, coming from long island I know, love and even work at Deli. Their italian mix is very good, also tried their hot sandwiches which are very good. My only complaint is their american mix hero. It comes with ham salami and bologna ???? ALL OVER the city and LI an american mix is turkey ham and roast beef. Their bread is good nothing compared to the city though. I will be returning as their sandwiches are the best I can find in the capital region. Oh, also try their homemade sausages only 4.99 lb. Amazing.

Yelp
Love Nino's. Fresh made food. Family run. Friendly people. Easy parking. They also use the bread from the bakery in the back.

Yelp
Overall solid sandwich joint. Ordered an Italian mix and was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the bread, come to learn it is made on the premises. Quality meats (cappy. salami, pepperoni) and cheese (sharp prov.) complimented the bread perfectly. Perfect balance of veggies and oil/vinegar finished off this sub. Very good sandwich for the price, however it is slightly less "meaty" than some of the other competitors found in the capital region.

Yelp
I am all for supporting local business. I do not live in Albany, about 30 minutes east, but was given a $10 gift certificate to Nino's. I would like to state that the certificate did have an expiration date issued. Since I don't live in Albany, and just simply forgot, I didn't redeem within the time period. I believe it's a LAW that businesses have to honor gift certificates, it is not legal to have an expiration date. So, I went to Nino's to make a purchase. The male owner was quick to point out that the certificate had expired, after some conversation, he asked me to leave the certificate with him, he'd check with his wife and get back to me. After about a week, I didn't hear back from him, so I called Nino's. Yes, I was told "sorry buddy, it's expired". When I mentioned the NYS law, got the same response "sorry buddy". Well, to me, this means that as a local business owner you do not respect or want the support of your community. It was a mere $10. Just leaves a really bad feeling that they would not honor the gift certificate. Someone actually gave them $10 cash for that certificate. That's just not right. If that's the way they want to do business, I would not support them.
