"Edwards’ go-to shack is north, all the way to Nin’s Bin, in Kaikōura. ... Load up a plate with a whole cray brushed in rich garlic butter and save room for a whitebait fritter." - Hillary Eaton

One of the best meals I’ve had in years. It looks and sounds simple - a crayfish with lemon and garlic butter, but it’s worth it! Let me just say that at first I wasn’t that sure if it was worth the drive out of Kaikoura town and pay $100 for a one person portion of crayfish. Now I would gladly come back and drive 3 hours from Christchurch for it. The seasoning, while light (not thick sauces), is perfect to let freshness of the crayfish shine. There was only 1 lady manning the store when I went - she gave me a briefing on how to eat it, I thought it was so useful for maximum enjoyment of the dish. Thank you for a great lunch after kayak!

Excellent! We had this spot noted (seen at some food Bloggers video) and were more than happy. Great crayfish, fish & Chips! Despite the fairly high price (considering its a street food place), we enjoyed every single bite. Great service, too!

On the way from Picton to Kaikoura, we had to stop at Nin's Bin, which is a must when passing by here. We tried the crayfish, and of course it was quite expensive. It was tasty, but would not take it again. The fish and chips however are to die for. It is so delicious, and really the best I ever had. We even wanted to go back, but unfortunately it was their closing day. Next time for sure!

We stopped here on the way to Picton. I must say, the staff was very friendly. Obviously the area is known for crayfish which was delicious but do try the fish and chips as well. It was really good. They had mussels but we were too full to try it, perhaps next time.

We visited a few years back and had an amazing time, so we decided to come again — and it’s still as good! They now offer green-lipped mussels, which were among the best we had during our trip. While prices aren’t cheap for a food truck, the freshness of the seafood is absolutely worth it, especially if you appreciate simple, high-quality ingredients without unnecessary embellishments. The service is still super fast, making it a great stop if you’re short on time. The natural coastal view from the wooden benches is also very pleasant, adding to the experience.

The service was amazing the girls that are cousins have an amazing sense of humour. We only had the crayfish was amazing and so easy to eat, we loved it and worth the $250.00 for the two crayfish. They are all cooked in ice in an esky and you get tonpuck the one you want as they have written the prices on the tails. They painted our with garlic butter and heated them.

Nin's Bin is a must stop if you're anywhere in the area. If you like spiny lobsters (the NZ locals crayfish) Nin's Bin has the best prices and it's all they do (plus a few other local specialties like green mussels). Named after Nin, who lived in the small red house next door, this is a family operation to this day. We had a medium-sized crayfish with the citrus lemon butter and had the woman that was working there make it hot for us. It was unbelievable. Recommend just going at it with your hands, but there are recyclable forks if you don't want to break a nail... Everyone there was having a great time eating and telling stories about their travels, just what you want or if a local beach side family run seafood operation!

Fresh seafood, cooked upon order and amazing views. Enjoyed the fish and chips and the crayfish - total cost was about NZD120.. not sure if it’s considered expensive by New Zealand standards but we enjoyed the experience and appreciated that the food was fresh and good. Lots of birdies trying to eat your food so do not leave it unattended. Toilet available nearby but don’t expect too much. Overall great experience and would recommend that you try at least the fish and chips if you’re looking for something more economical. Also cute store and nice photo location

Yelp
At a rest area in a highway pullout off State Highway 1, this is little more than a food truck. Technically, a trailer and it's permanently installed. Nin's Bin is a seafood shack and you will want to ignore appearances. A selection of fresh seafood is on offer including lobster and crabs and crayfish. It's all available in an iced bin for inspection. I have not had the New Zealand delicacy "White bait" and opted for that. It's also the least expensive thing on the menu and since Nin's Bin i cash only, it's the only thing I had enough cash to afford. A few minutes later, my name was called out and I picked up my sandwich. Tasty, interesting and I am glad to have experienced it. Sitting at a bench overlooking a beautiful bay at the absolute edge of the world may have improved the flavor. I wouldn't miss it. [Review 414 of 2024 - 67 in New Zealand - 21447 overall]

Yelp
Crayfish! This is a little food van hidden amongst the road works along Highway 1 just north of Kaikoura - blink and you'll miss it! The menu was limited to crayfish and chips on the day that we stopped - but the crayfish was amazing. It was fresh and delicious and tasted even better for eating it outside with the beautiful views. Nicey but pricey - we paid $96 for the largest crayfish she had!!

Yelp
Can't believe Nin's Bin is not on yelp yet. This place is a single reason to fly to NZ from the other end of the world. An old camping trailer, directly at the beach in the nowhere north of kaikoura. If you don't know what's coming you will drive by before you realize it. Big mistake. Turn around. Here's the place to stop. Crayfish, lobster, mussels. Fresh and served with lemon outside in the sun watching the waves come in from the ocean. Life can't get any better than this, trust me.

Yelp
Fantastic,Delicious,Superb,Freshest Crayfish...EVER!Cash Only A HUGE HUG with compassion to the many construction workers that are working to re-connect the travelers, since the very destructive 7.8 earthquake Nov.15th, 2016... It's an emotional route to actually get here...

Yelp
A must on your South Island road trip if you have the cash to spare. Simplicity at it's best as fresh seafood speaks for itself! We enjoyed the crayfish and also the juicy mussels. Weather was getting a bit dark so was worried about the outdoor seating but it cleared in time, phew. There is just something about sitting next to the beach, with the gulls and digging into fresh seafood.

Yelp
Delicious but expensive, ~$50 for a small crayfish, ~$65-70 for medium size and over $100 for a really big one. I'd expect these to be cheap here. People say the small are more tasty but on the other hand, it's easier to eat and there's more 'meat' in the big one, so next time I'm considering buying one big ($100+) and eat half. Nin's Bin says that they catch and cook crayfish on their own, see their responses at https://www.tripadvisor.co.nz/Restaurant_Review-g255374-d1978588-Reviews-Nin_s_Bin-Kaikoura_Canterbury_Region_South_Island.html
