"Founded in November 2020 by managing partner Teddy Gilmore, Nipsey’s is a casual bar and dining spot known for its 'quintessential American retro bar' feel and a menu of comfort food with Cajun touches. Despite its promising start, it has faced numerous issues including neighborhood complaints about noise and public disturbances, and citations from the Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection for various violations." - Naomi Waxman

"Nipsey’s Restaurant & Lounge at 9156 S. Stony Island Avenue in the Burnside neighborhood is facing complaints from the city for providing entertainment without a proper license. Neighbors complain about loud and rowdy patrons who are prone to public urination. A disciplinary hearing before the Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP) has been postponed until February 25 after several more complaints were added. Ald. Michelle Harris supports shutting down Nipsey’s, but co-owner Teddy Gilmore argues he is being unfairly targeted." - Naomi Waxman

"Just over a year after its debut in Burnside on Chicago’s South Side, Nipsey’s Restaurant & Lounge, a casual dining and drinking spot inspired by Fox’s ’90s sitcom Martin, is at the center of a swirl of controversy after complaints from neighbors sparked a series of citations from city officials. The city’s Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP) issued Nipsey’s four citations and an order to stop offering live entertainment without the appropriate business license. Infractions include failure to display a sign asking patrons to leave quietly, exceeding occupancy limits, and failure to adhere to a “written plan of action.” Neighbors reported late-night disturbances and petitioned for help, leading to calls for closure from area residents and elected officials." - Naomi Waxman

Wonderful experience at a fairly new restaurant and lounge modeled after a fictional bar on the Martin Lawrence Show. Beautiful atmosphere on the inside. One side is a lounge area and the other is dine in eating. Its not a large eating area, so you must make reservations. I went here for my birthday this year and really enjoyed it...especially the food, the service and my drink (Damn Gina!) Our table was really impressed with the pizza..the ones pictured below were really affordable and tasty. I had the lamb (not pictured) and it was seasoned just right. The service was thoughtful and attentive. They had a DJ that night that was awesome as well.

I spend $22.65 for this catfish dinner which was originally priced at $16.00 and a mandatory tip of $4 was charged to my bill with added taxes making it $22.65, I'm not happy that I wasn't informed about this prior to ordering. the portions were too small for that price and the food did not have a good quality taste. The fish was small and not seasoned well at all, the greens tasted like it was out of a can, the cornbread was dry and wasn't all that good and the Mac and cheese was bland with no flavor. I will not be returning to this establishment, the waiter did not even remember to bring another glass of water or and condiments I asked for until I was done with my meal. The service was not worth the extra $4 surcharge added to my bill. This does not hold the waiters responsible to provide good service to the customers!

The picture is of the fried green tomatoes and the fried cauliflower. I was a tad disappointed because I feel like the oil of the fried green tomatoes it was a bit stale. The presentation looks lovely but the taste of the oil was too much. I really think I would probably just come back here for the drinks which were good but not necessarily for appetizers.

Nipsey's is a much needed upscale lounge in the south side. The staff is friendly and very efficient. The place has a downtown feel with downtown drink prices, so don't be too shock considering there was no cover fee. The food looks amazing although I didn't order anything. The place had a great vibe and the music was decent. Overall I definitely would go back and try something on the menu. I hear Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday is the best time to go if you like a larger crowd...

The food was good but not enough for the price. They also charge an additional service charge of 25% for your bill if you are dining in that does not go to your server. My bill went from $50 to 60 due to the service charge that they do not tell you about until your bill come. And then you still want to add a tip too. I just paid for a longhorn steakhouse meal. My server was great even though it was her first day. I still tipped her because she tried to make our dinner enjoyable.

My overall dining experience was horrible, took over and hour for a $14 dry Kale salad that I literally almost choked on. I thought it was poor form for the owner to be relaxing at the front while his customers were waiting over a hour to have anything to be placed on their table besides water. Its my opinion that they should be a bar serving wings and burgers, bar food. The food was bland and not worth the prices. Hopefully they improve their dining experience, because its is a great idea. I hate to be so harsh, but it can't get better unless people say something. On a positive note it seemed like a fun place to have drinks, dance, and hang out!
