Niramaya Villas & Spa | Best places to stay in Port Douglas

"Blending Balinese architecture, impeccable service and a private location, this property will win over the sternest critics. The 30 tropical villas are simply breath-taking, with soaring ceilings, spacious patios and their own plunge pools. The gated property also features 15 hectares of manicured gardens land lily covered lakes. Facilities include a swimming pool, fitness centre, tennis court, sauna and day spa. The resort will appeal to both couples and families – or even a couple of families travelling together. The standard of cuisine is also very high – the Niramaya restaurant, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, has won several awards. Located just south of the Port Douglas township, the resort is truly a self-contained oasis. " - Mark Chipperfield

Wow!!! We absolutely loved our stay at Niramaya Villas. Our villa was perfect for our family holiday to celebrate a special occasion. Our villa had beautiful spaces to gather as a family, or to spread out and relax in your own private area. We loved our private pool! The staff were helpful and friendly, the tropical gardens were stunning, and the villa extremely well equipped. We enjoyed the tennis court, gym, resort pool and Santi restaurant. The special treats on arrival were a delightful surprise. We can’t wait to return!

Stunning villas and grounds. Spa is first rate (ask for David who is a gifted masseur as well as facialist). The only ding - and it’s a big one - is the restaurant which is a disaster. The food is barely a step above college cafeteria - bland curry over vegetables, frozen pizzas, fish and chips - and the staff is friendly but have no idea what they’re doing. They’re sweet kids from Italy and Canada on temporary work visas who are inexperienced and distracted. It’s shocking that a resort that lavishes so much attention and professionalism on the grounds and accommodations would be so careless about the food. And Port Douglas, for such a small beach town, has excellent food so there is no excuse. Pasta e Vino, for example, a trattoria in town that serves some of the freshest, most delicious homemade pastas would be a star in NYC where upscale Italian restaurants are everywhere. The manager of the hotel should clear the kitchen and get serious about the food, and if not the group that owns the hotel should step in.

We are a family of four from the US who usually travels to luxury resorts. When viewing our options for Port Douglas we found most options were mid-range. We chose Niramaya because it is beautifully landscaped, seemed quiet, and had great reviews. We knew going in that this was more of an condo/airbnb type accommodation than a hotel. We were fine with limited front desk hours and no housekeeping for our stay terms. Here is what we found:||What we liked:|Landscaping is beautiful and bugs weren’t as bad as I expected. |Our small pool was heated|The air conditioning worked well|The shower in the master bedroom had good water pressure and plenty of hot water|The staff was friendly and the dinner at the main restaurant was good|Family room was very comfortable and spacious||What we did not like:|The second and third bedrooms are separate from the master bedroom and separate from the family room/kitchen. We knew this….but is was more of an inconvenience than we suspected|The bathroom that sits between and second and third bedroom is outside…meaning you need to exit the air conditioned bedrooms, go outside, then enter the bathroom.|The second bathroom did not have air conditioning. There were no controls, vents, and it was HOT in the bathroom. |The bedroom with 2 single beds had a horrible odor, a smell that went beyond musty….it smelled bad and musty. Our daughters shared a queen sized bed instead of using that room.|There were no dressers in the bedrooms…the master bedroom had 2 tiny side tables with lamps.|All of the bedroom furniture, bathroom fixtures were cheap. |The sheets felt like sandpaper.||Bottom line: the housing seems adorable from the outside….but the accommodation was rustic….in a cheap sort of way. There could have been better quality sheets, there could have been better quality furniture, they could have air conditioning in the bathroom…..it was a choice. ||I can see why some people like this place….while we were there one villa was hosting a wedding, another villa had multiple families spending holiday together. The resort is very affordable if you are filling the rooms and using the hotel resources. It is probably a resort many Australians would enjoy.||We enjoyed our time in Port Douglas…but we did not enjoy Niramaya. After incredible day trips we dreaded sleeping in our beds. This just wasn’t the right fit.

A complete disappointment. Where shall we start? - no daily clean up service. Will apparently only offer clean on extended stays. - no one to offer check in after 7pm. Only to hunt your way though the paths in the dark to find the room. - ordering room service before closing time only to no accept the order as it was 15mins prior to close - insects and snake skins in the villa (if they made an effort to clean the villas daily would they prevent this) Lovely villas but the service is well shy of a premier resort. Not one for families with children or anyone expecting clean rooms

Another amazing stay at Niramaya. We were four adults and the villa was perfect for us all allowing us privacy and peace in the large layout. The plunge pool is fantastic and way bigger than most villas - you can actually spend a decent amount of time in it. If you want a place to stay where you feel right at home and have all the creature comforts (and more) of your own place, this is definitely the best choice in Port Douglas. We will be back again soon.

Wow!!!! We chose Niramaya to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We have never stayed in such a beautiful, tranquil setting. Our villa was stunning, and having our own plunge pool was fabulous. The staff were so helpful and so accommodating. The food was delicious and I loved the hamper ideas they offer for in room dining. We are already talking about when we can return and enjoy this paradise once again. Highly recommend.

Our family of 2 adults and 4 kids (ranging from 8 to 14 yrs old) stayed in Villa 24 in March for 5 nights. If you’re looking for a spacious, 3 bedroom, comfortable, private, quiet, and luxurious oasis, then Villa 24 at Niramaya ticks all the boxes and more. When we first stepped into the villa, it was like stepping into your own 5 star tropical paradise in Bali. Wow!!! The stunning tropical garden setting really sets this resort apart from other resorts that we’ve stayed in. The design and layout of the villa was so clever making use of every corner and inch with either an architectural feature or a landscaped tropical garden feature. The master bedroom suite has the most comfortable bed we have ever stayed it with high quality linen and we were spoilt with having both a bathtub and a glassed walk-in rain shower which overlooked yet more tropical gardens. The owners of Villa 24 have really thought of every detail to make your stay comfortable. The kitchen was brand new and very well equipped with everything you would ever need to make a chef’s prepared meal, and the integrated appliances added the 5 star luxury touch. Overall we had the most memorable and comfortable stay and we will definitely be back when we visit Port Douglas again.

Wonderful resort, horrific stay. Recently spent 3 days at Port Douglas during a once-in-a-lifetime trip around Australia. Stayed at villa 14, which consisted of a well-equipped living space / kitchen and two bedrooms spread out across 3 detached buildings. Great for a stay with older children or friends, not great with small kids — something to bear in mind. Spent a good chunk of our nights hunting cockroaches of all sizes — some happy to crawl under beds. Ended up buying our own insect killer sprays on the second day, which helped us have a quiet third night. After sharing our experience with the Reception, we were told to “let them know in advance next time, to have pest control called in”. Speechless. As if there’s going to be a second time. Be warned.

Yelp
Niramaya's spa is the best way to relax after however long you've traveled to get to Port Douglas. My boyfriend and I booked the romance package and it was two hours of blissful treatments, followed by the most amazing bath looking out into the rainforest. We had access to the restaurant, pool and spa facilities, making this the perfect overcast/ rainy day activity. I couldn't recommend this spa highly enough.

Yelp
The Niramaya Villas in Port Douglas were sensational...truly a 5-Star experience! We stayed as a family of five (2 adults and 3 children) in Villa 26 and enjoyed four incredible nights at the Villa. We were sad to leave and look forward to returning to this tropical paradise! It is tranquil, lush surroundings, beautiful accommodations, and you have your own tropical secluded villa complete with spacious rooms, big kitchen and den, private small pool, laundry and three bedrooms. And the pool and restaurant/bar are excellent...great service, wonderful people, excellent food. Breakfast is sensational! It is centrally located and a 5-8 minute shuttle/Uber ride to town. Wifi (a bit weak) is provided. We will certainly return...perfect fora relaxed, luxurious resort with a full kitchen and living area. Niramaya is impressive! Great for couples and families. Great spot to enjoy Port Douglas and do day trips for Rainforest, Diving, Beach, etc. Worth a visit...great five star experience!

Yelp
Superb resort. Amazing service. The main pool in the resort is spectacular. Will definitely be coming back. 5 stars.

Yelp
Spent a half day at Niramaya and had a massage as well as lunch. I had a massage which included a $25 voucher for the restaurant as well as access to the facilities for my partner. The relaxation massage was a treat and the spa room was beautiful - it would be a wonderful spot for a couples day as the room includes two massage tables and outdoor tub. I could hear the birds during my treatment. The other spa facilities leave something to be desired. The hot and cold plunge pools in each change room are neither hot nor cold. The small sauna and shower areas were very nice. The pool is beautiful, though a bit noisy with children and families enjoying their day. Lunch was alright, though I wouldn't seek it out without already being on site for a stay or spa treatment.
