Nirvana Indian Cuisine

When I first learned of this place opening, I decided to take my wife to try Indian food for the first time… Nirvana offered a double entrée special back when they were starting here, And what a great way to give people a chance to experience what Indian food is like! We both ordered that special many times and got to try most of the menu! What I thought would be my main go to dish, we soon replaced by the lamb vindaloo, which I had never tried before myself! I love it! The staff are always friendly and very accommodating.

Best Butter Chicken I've ever had! Naan was flaky and light - delicious!

We came here for a nice birthday lunch and left very happy. We ordered samosas to start which were very good and perfectly cooked. They come with two sauces, a chutney and a green spicy sauce. I prefer the green sauce but both were very good. We ordered the butter chicken, chicken tikka masala and the lamb briyani. Everything was flavorful and cooked perfectly. We also ordered one roti and one naan for the table as no bread comes with the meal which is a bit disappointing. The average cost of entree is $15-18 so a little cheaper the some of the other local places but still a bit high in my opinion. The serving size is a good portion, we definitely had left overs! The interior is very nice and clean, and the service is friendly and quick to help.

Our favorite order is butter chicken (we ask for a little spice!), garlic naan, and papri chaat! It’s the best!

My wife and I love this place! Best Indian restaurant in the area by far. Would highly recommend to anyone regardless whether you are familiar with Indian cuisine or not. Definitely not hard to find something good on the menu!

I always order the butter chicken with the samosas chaat and garlic naan and it is always very very delicious. I will say I wish the butter chicken portion was slightly bigger considering it’s almost a 20 dollar plate.

Went her to celebrate my Mom's Birthday. They were nice enough to accommodate our large party on a Sunday evening. Service and food were great. This place has really good Indian food and I have gone to a lot of Indian Restaurants.

Overall, our take-out food was very good but the lamb in the Lamb Karai was a bit too dry/overdone. Other than the lamb, the food was all excellent. Our choices were: Butter Chicken Garlic Naan Navartan Korma Saag Paneer Lamb Karai We recommend this restaurant and will purchase from them again in the future.

I love some nice Indian takeout, but the places around me make me feel like Goldilocks- it's never quite right. Too bad I don't live in Olney! Everything at Nirvana was perfection! Butter chicken is a go-to for many people, but it was incredible here. Sweet but complex flavors with perfectly cooked, large pieces of chicken. I feel like chicken tandoori really shows off the cooking ability of the restaurant, and here it was moist with subtle flavors. We also got naan, samosas, paratha, Chana masala, and onion bhajis, and they were all delicious. The takeout containers were clean and organized, and the food was ready quickly. I'll be making some excuses to visit my friend again soon and get more Nirvana!

We've gotten nirvana takeout a couple of times and I can say it's decent but I'm not blown away as some of the other reviews seem to be. In my experience the chicken korma and saag paneer are okay but I'm not going to rush to get them again. Surprisingly my favorite dish so far has been the buttered chicken. I know that's not ground breaking as that seems to be the standard American favorite but they do make one of the better versions that I've had. My husband also likes their chicken biryani. For us, this place hits in a pinch but I wish there were more dishes we were excited about.

First time here, in the door we found it quaint , neat and clean. The staff was verynicexand friendly. We found good menu choices. My ordered the Chicken Tika Masala which her only real complaint was the chicken was huge chunks as we like it cut down more. I ordered the fish massage which was ok, they use salmon and I was expecting a white fish as salmon has a strong flavor and took away from the masala sauce. All in all good food and we will go back.

This is one of my top 3 Indian restaurants in MD. The food always tastes great and the restaurant offers carryout which is nice. I have ordered different things on the menu and always enjoy whatever I get. If you are in the Olney area, then I highly recommend you visit Nirvana.

Pretty impressed by the food in the small shopping Plaza. My friend ate here the night before and liked it so much she wanted me to try the next day. I got the lamb vindaloo and the meat was extremely tender and the sauce was super flavorful. Pretty reasonable pricing as well for the portions they gave you. The only thing I wish was better was I asked for extra spicy and there was barely any spice in my food. Also they did not give you any bread with the meal. I'm used to having naan on the side.

May be great food but we don't know since delivery time was pushed back multiple times so we finally cancelled. They were good about refund to debit card.

The food was average and the service was bad. It was very hot in the restaurant. Only 2 tables occupied and the other table had ask for a fan. Not impressed at all.

Our favorite dishes here are saag paneer, butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, papri chaat and garlic naan. The staff are welcoming and we always enjoy our meal here.

Our go to Indian food! I always love this place since I tried it few years ago. I never dine in though, so can't speak on the service or the atmosphere since I usually order online and just pick up and go. My order every time is chicken tikka masala and chicken biryani. They both have so much flavor and so tender. Honestly you can't go wrong with those!

Bad attitude. Bad service. Absolutely deserted on a Sunday afternoon. Very inhospitable looking guy at the bar. It seemed as if we were interfering with his afternoon siesta.

Super delicious Indian cuisine! I had samosas as an appetizer and butter chicken as my main course. I had recently recommended this restaurant to a friend whose daughter eats gluten-free. When I was describing my meal there, I said I usually order a Mango Lassi to drink. She'd never heard of it. Oh my! You don't know what you're missing. Try one. The young man who served me was polite and efficient. A perfectly attentive server. I love this little gem of a restaurant. A statue of Ganesha, the elephant-headed Hindu god of beginnings, visually greets you when you open the door to this establishment. Once inside, the subdued lighting creates an aura of the exotic and romantic. The staff greets you, welcomes you and makes you feel at home, as you prepare to delight in their delicious Indian cuisine. Bon appétit (sorry, that just came out... I'm French and I don't know the corresponding phrase in the Indian culture)... so discover and enjoy!

Nirvana is an amazing Indian restaurant. Their dishes are packed with flavor and best enjoyed family style. Most dishes have a bit of spice but it's bearable.

Oh so much did I want to love this place. Naming it "Nirvana" was a pretty big risk, you have to admit. I mean it's like calling your ship unsinkable! So this place is in a strip mall at the corner of two pretty big roads and the lot generally has enough parking though I do suspect that some people are using it as a "park and ride" for their commutes to work. The decor is fairly warm (minus the plywood boards that are used on the benches) and the greeting was certainly nice. I perused the lunch special menu (I'll include the photo) but decided to go with the always-available americanized staple known as "Chick Tikka Masala." I was famished and figured that for $15.99 I was going to get a mountain of food. Alas...I did not. The food came out quickly which concerned me that it had been sitting in a pot cooking...and cooking for a while before I arrived. Alas...it had. The meat was pretty over cooked but the flavor of the sauce was fairly nice and subtle unlike some other local eateries serving the same dish. The rice was very nice and not lumpy or over seasoned. You could taste it for what it was and it was a nice compliment to the chicken. I may come back here for dinner to see if they're in less of a rush to get the food out of the kitchen allowing them an opportunity to cook it to order. All told, I'm giving Nirvana three stars which I know sounds like an oxymoron but it is what it is.

Carried out Chicken Vindaloo yesterday. It was EXCELLENT except that it was toned down for American tastes and not "native style." In their defense, I forgot to tell them I like to singe my tonsils! Vindaloo is reputed to be one of the hottest Indian dishes. It was flavorful and mostly chicken thigh meat. Their basmati rice was also good. I am gluten free of necessity and was grateful that the young man who answered the phone asked the chef before answering the question.

This is a perfect spot for fantastic Indian cuisine favorites like butter chicken, saag paneer, vegetable korma, naan, raita & many more. It's a warm, inviting ambiance with good service. They serve beer, wine, & lassi! When the food is wheeled out on its cart, the plentiful servings are family style & are easy to share & pack up for when you need to bring home leftovers. Pay attention to their business hours because they close for a little bit in between lunch & dinner hours. Highly recommend if you're in the mood for your classic favorites or trying something new!

Nirvana is a "hidden" gem in Olney. First, I will start off by saying why I didn't give them 5 stars. The guy at the front is rude. I'm not going to speculate anything here but he needs cheer in his life. Anyway, the food is always on point. I recommend the Saag Paneer, Shahi Paneer and the Chicken Tikka Masala. Pro Tip: When you call to order, expect a 45 minute wait for your order to be ready for pick up. #YelpMDburbs

Wow. I say again, wow. The mint sauce and the tamarind sauce is the best sauces we have ever had. As someone who normally ignores the watery condiments presented with food, The mint is a transcendent and mysterious mint sauce that we speculate to be made of mint, cilantro, lime and something sweet but we cannot say for sure because the flavors harmonize so well together. The tamarind sauce is the same. It is pulpy, sweet, sour. More sour than sweet tamarind sauce, a taste of the actual plup of the tamarind. Lunch special is only $11.99! It's probably worth around $20-40. Chicken Tikka Masala - creamy, delicious big pieces of juicy chicken Saag Paneer- creamy, large soft paneer pieces. Generously loaded with this said paneer. Well mixed garlic, onion spinach that gives this dish its charm. Tikka Chicken with bell peppers and onions curry- seared onions and bell peppers, bright onion flavor in a savory sauce Goat curry- my favorite! Spicy and the normal gamey flavor of soft, fall off the bone goat is harmonized and enhance with spices that the mysteriously wonderfully delicious curry it in. My favorite. Rice- bright colors of orange from saffron, great compliment to the curry Chai- warm, creamy pieces of cardomom

The food is pretty good. We enjoy the butter chicken, samosas, chicken biryani, and the tikka masala typically. Very flavorful! These are all mild enough for the kids to enjoy. The kids also love the mango lassis. They do delivery with grub hub. Pickup is also easy.

So glad I finally tried this spot out, and I have to say it checked all the boxes. (Only a 4 star instead of 5 because I save my 5 stars for the kind of places I'd take a flight out for just to eat there and go home). That aside-- 10/10 on the meal! I ordered at 8:40 pm for carry out and they graciously obliged even though they were closing at 9. I requested it be mild as I'm very sensitive to spicy foods, and I was so grateful that I could enjoy the whole meal without that spicy kick that's too intense for someone like me. I'm glad I ordered the tandoori chicken, that surprised me to be even tastier than my go to butter chicken. The rice was fresh and fluffy and the naan was absolute perfection. I also love that the samosas weren't too spicy. The mango lassi was great, it was the only thing that was a 9/10 for me-- amazing taste, I'm just a very difficult person to please so I was quite impressed and very excited to continue coming back. The service was great and they got our order perfectly. Looking forward to this being a new regular on my rotation of local spots to pick up a reliable delicious dinner for my family

Spouse was born in Calcutta & raised near Kathmandu, Nepal. So he has an appreciation for locally prepared cuisine from both regions. I don't like spicy Indian food but our Nepalese friend cooked for us & I love the more mild dishes. We had three deliveries & pickup. Spouse loves the piping hot parathas! He's been trying to find them like he remembered and this restaurant comes close! The butter chicken is very mild. It has oodles of tasty sauce and the chicken chunks are thigh dark meat which is more tender & flavorful than breast due to its higher fat content. We love the basmati rice. We have big bags of basmati rice at home but I can't seem to duplicate the flavor & fluffiness of Indian restaurants even when I rinse & soak it first. So, we love the rice. The Vindaloo is just right & my brother, who loves spicy food, tried a shrimp entree. The Samosas were too spicy for my delicate senses but everyone else loved them. The doughnut balls in syrup dessert were rather soggy but held their shape but then I'm unsure if they are supposed to be that soggy or not. Overall, we enjoy this restaurant's food. It's pricy but one entree makes two meals for us.

If you like Indian food, you MUST GO. I'm so happy Nirvana opened in Olney. I've already been there a few times and expect to be a regular. I've been for both lunch and dinner and the food is consistently amazing! The lunch and dinner special they offer is great for when I can't decide between dishes and the portions kept me full. THE FOOD: I've tried the Saag Paneer, Lamb Curry, Channa Masala, Chicken Tikka The Goat Curry has a slight spiciness to it for those who can't handle spicy food. I enjoy spicy food so I might ask them to make it spicier on my next visit. All the meat has been very tender and perfectly flavored. (I'm usually not a fan of chicken dishes because I find them to be overcooked and dry, but the Chicken Tikka Masala was perfect). I also tried the Chicken Karai for the first time and enjoyed it. (It reminded me of Chinese Stir fry). I prefer the Garlic Naan to the Onion Naan. And the Mango Lassi was worth ordering. THE SERVICE: The chef came out when he had a chance to ask customers about the meal. It's nice to see the people cooking the food smile hearing the customers are enjoying the food they prepared. Nick was also very accommodating and gave great recommendations on what to try. I plan on asking him what he recommends trying the next time I eat there (hopefully soon). I also had Greg as a server. He was pleasant and thankfully patient when the table wasn't sure what they wanted to order. He also was able to give a couple good recommendations to try. Overall, I'm very pleased such a delicious restaurant with friendly service arrived in Olney.

I love Indian food and it's hard to rate one a 2 star because the food tasted fine, it just wasn't GOOD. The sauce was extremely watery. We ordered takeout at 5 on the dot, so we should have been freshly made... But tasted like maybe hours old buffet? Ordered lamb vindaloo (spicy water with a few pieces of pretty overcooked Lamb), chicken korma (gristly dark meat, sauce was very flavorful but not thick), butter chicken (bland and same Calibre chicken), and saag paneer (the best thing we ordered, flavorful and thick - actually highly recommend if this is your jam). Also, they don't have papadums. I asked why and the host said because they are "southern indian and we are a northern Indian restaurant". Their specialty is Goan Fish Curry and last time I checked, Goa is considered a South Indian State... just saying..... Maybe add everyone's favorite appetizer to the menu?

Just as I remembered it, Bombay Gaylord lives on in Nirvana Indian Cuisine. Oh how I longed for you.

Came here on Sunday after worship service. I was surprised that we were the only people in the restaurant. We ordered the chicken vindaloo, aloo gobi, naan, garlic naan, goat curry, lamb and chicken kabob. Everything was delicious. I don't usually eat indian food because it can be a little oily but everything was really well prepared. Will be coming back here again.

We ordered a couple dishes for carry out. We ordered the samosa chaat, butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, plain naan, and garlic naan. Everything was good as it was the last time I ordered from here except the butter chicken was a tad less flavorful than last time. The chicken tikka masala was something new I ordered and it was SO good. Rich, creamy sauce with large, tender chunks of chicken. The samosa chaat was also very good - much better than the papri chaat I ordered last time. The chaat dishes are a bit pricey compared to other Indian restaurants but was well worth it. Also, I added an updated carry out menu with their full menu and prices, as not many menu photos have been posted.

I almost walked out. When we first came in, there were six workers at the bar and not one person greeted us. We stood by the door waiting for someone to seat us for quite some time. Even the diners kept looking up from their to see us just standing by the entrance. There were no lines and the restaurant was not crowded on a Friday evening. Not one person walking around the main eating area or the bar motioned to us or acknowledged our presence. I was just about to walk out when someone finally asked if we wanted a table. I think the first thing a restaurant should do is acknowledge diners as they come in. If you're busy, say you'll be with them in just a minute. Once seated, I ordered the daily dinner special. The waiter explained that since they do not have buffets like other Indian restaurants, getting a sampler was a good way to try other dishes. I agree. I opted for the chicken tikka masala and lamb vindaloo. I asked if the vindaloo was spicy and he said it does have a kick. He was right again but it wasn't so spicy that if you can't have spicy, it would burn your mouth. The really nice thing about this restaurant is that they offer refills of rice. So many places charge for that and I'm afraid after a while, Nirvana might go along with charging too. So for now, get the extra rice if you need it.

Wonderful! Among the best Indian meals we have enjoyed (and we love Indian food). Full of flavor. At Nirvana, the spices shine through without the use of too much oil. (Sometimes, restaurant meals can overuse oil and we leave the restaurant feeling stuffed, but not here). They easily accommodated our requests for vegan dishes. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside and our server was very gracious. We're so glad we discovered this gem and look forward to returning.

I'm not quite sure how I spent a few years living in DC and found only mediocre (at best) Indian, only to discover a place in Olney that makes fantastic dishes and some damn good Samosas My only complaint is the level of rice is a bit small, I want enough rice that I can bury my face into a bowl of curry and eat my way out so perhaps I'm not the best critic on that front

Food was delivered in a timely manner. Portions were absolutely great!!! The butter chicken was just that!, butter to my lips The kids loved it! Even the plain white rice was well done. I appreciate a place that stays authentic to the cuisine they are selling, this place is that! Only reason I'm not giving them 5stars is because the mango lassi had something off about it. Otherwise I'll be ordering from them again.

Favorite spot for Indian cuisine in Olney , usually get take out. All the dishes are very good that I have ordered. The tandoori chicken and garlic naan are delicious.

Probably will not be back. I was disappointed with everything overall- quality, taste, price and portions. With so many options - this was buffet quality Indian food at a sit down price. The chicken tikka masala lacked any richness, depth and real seasoning. It was more of a thick gravy like a mild butter chicken. The chicken itself was not fresh. The garlic naan was VERY garlicy and yet had a dry burnt taste- I had a mouthful of char and garlic... and it wasn't pleasing. The other chicken tikka karai was the consistency of beef stew. The flavors of the peppers did not stand out like they would in a fresh dish just all one underwhelming flavor- although it was slightly better than the masala. The salad was also just some lettuce with three shaved slices of cucumber and a tomato. Again, everything was completely underwhelming. I expect spices and flavor when I have Indian food- not bland stews with dry meat. I'll stick to Dosa and Chaat in Gaithersburg for my Indian food fix or even House of India in Columbia... completely disappointed with Nirvana.

Amazing butter chicken and goat currry. The garlic naan was exceptional too. The portion is kind of small for the price but overall great food. Glad I've found this place!!

The food here is absolutely delicious. We do take out or Doordash delivery from here about once a month. Our favorites are the Papri Chaat, Vegetable Samosas, Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Biryani, Tandoori Chicken, and Garlic Naan. We're lucky to have a great Indian restaurant here in Olney.

We visited during a weekday evening to celebrate a birthday. The food was excellent and the service was wonderful. We had the samasoas and hummus for appetizers. We ordered several different dishes for dinner and all were delicious. Our very picky 8 year old loved the butter chicken and naan. Nick and Jose were excellent hosts and we will be sure to return.

I never thought I would see the day that Olney had an Indian restaurant but finally that day is here. Nirvana is a good addition to the restaurants in town. My sister and I ordered a bunch of dinner for take out. My sister got the tandoori chicken kofta and said it was pretty good. I had the chicken Karai which was a stir fry dish. A really good flavor from the spices, I could've used just a little more spice but it was good. The basmati rice had a great flavor with added spices. Garlic naan was fresh and delicious- definitely would order it again. The rice pudding was awesome. Overall solid spot, just a little pricy for the portions

Been meaning to post for a while. I absolutely love this restaurant. Never had a bad meal from here. I usually get take out and it is always excellent. Staff is extremely friendly. Really can't say enough positive about this restaurant.

Once again, I find myself in Olney, looking for some flavor and stumble upon Nirvana (literally?). Tucked away in a strip mall (like all things in Olney), this place doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you're inside, it's damn good - I love Indian food, and this place really delivers. We started with the samosas and papri chaat, which is a snack of potato, chickpeas and chutney. The samosas were crispy but light, and filled with warm, smooth potatoes and peas and just a tinge of spice. The papri chaat was the best I'd ever had - it's served cold with fried crisps tossed on top. The spices were on the sweet side, and I left the bowl so that I could dip my naan bread into it later (I had to stop the servers from taking the finished bowl!). I ordered the dinner special of two entrees (I chose chicken tikka masala and lamb vindaloo), with rice and naan bread. The chicken tikka masala was cooked well, only a little gristle, and the creamy smooth curry was bright and full of flavor but not too spicy. The lamb vindaloo was dark and meaty, with well-cooked lamb that was tender enough to cut with a fork. The Naan is perfectly baked you can taste the butter, and the rice carried the food easily without being overbearing. The portions are not huge, but enough to fill your belly. For dessert we tried the gulab jamun, two fried dough balls drenched in honey and spices. A perfect finish to a great meal, not too sweet, and a nice touch to an evening of flavor. Definitely worthwhile - if you want flavor and spices, this is the place. Dare I say it, it may be worth venturing to the outer reaches of Olney specifically to try Nirvana Indian Cuisine!

In my humble opinion certainly the best indian food in the area. the food is very authentic, can be a little spicy, so make sure if you like it mild be sure to mention it. they are very accomodating to that and extremely friendly taking orders and interactions. If you are in the olney area definitely give it a try for lunch or dinner. Definitely recommend.

The samosas and the buttered chicken were awesome! Rich flavor and big servings! Take out was ready super quickly as well. Entres are a little pricey, but worth it!

My brother and I had dinner at Nirvana last night! Simple evaluation! Nirvana is Nirvana! We had Lamb Palak and Butter Chicken. It was one of the best meals I have had in a long time. It's too far to be a frequent customer so I have to figure out excuses to be in the neighborhood.

I tried this place out because of the reviews. Pros: Clean, friendly servers, aesthetically pleasing, calm environment. Cons: This was my only complaint. There was no. Seasoning. At. All. Omg. I am Indian so from the smells coming from the kitchen I was expecting something amazing. However, once I looked around myself and noticed we were the only Indian family there- I got a little worried because some place will make things mild to adjust to the taste of their customers. I was right. I've had better paneer, Saag, and naan at home honestly. I didn't even taste salt. I REALLY wanted to like this place, but the lack of flavor really threw me off. I'm leaving 4 stars because that's the only thing I can complain about, otherwise they are very friendly and nice.
