Nissi Beach is known for being a beautiful beach and a party central. And, certainly, there is truth to both of the claims.
Especially the party bit. Although most of the credit for that goes to the Nissi Beach Bar. Still, the reputation is merited.
And, the beach is undeniably beautiful. To quote a local person's description of it: "It's like the European Maldives". I concur with the statement. The sandy beach is beautiful, the views are gorgeous and the water is regularly just right, neither cold nor warm.
But, there is one thing that is a bit of an annoying issue with this beach. The waters here would normally be dazzlingly azure and crystal clear, a marvel to behold But, the bay seems to be plagued with algal blooms. And, they seem to be quite prolific too. The shore can be veritably green and slimy, and honestly, disgusting to go through. Sometimes, it can even get mixed up with some rubbish that probably originates from some passing boats. The rubbish isn't plentiful, but when mixed in with the algae, it can really make it so you don't even want to go into the water.
If you're lucky, there will be few or maybe even no algae, and the beach and the bay will be stupendously heavenly. Otherwise, you may want to try to quickly rummage through the "green belt" to reach the deeper water where it quickly turns to that heavenly azure again.
It's a real pity, and either the hotels or the city seem to be hiring people to use nets to pull the algae out of the water, but there's just so much of it that, despite their best efforts, it still ends up green and slimy
If not for this algal plague, the bay would be flawlessly beautiful...
