Best Filipino Restaurants in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Just a stone’s throw away from beloved bakeshop Luisa & Son, Nita’s has been a Carson community go-to for the past 26 years. With its assortment of traditional Filipino favorites like pork sinigang, sisig, and chicken barbecue skewers, the restaurant is everything one would expect from a traditional turo-turo or “point-point” spot. Turo-turo places are cafeteria-style restaurants popular in Filipino cuisine where customers create combination dishes by pointing out choices to the server." - Emily Joy Meneses

Nita’s is probably my favorite spot for Filipino food in the South Bay. Lots of delicious dishes here - from their sweet ribs to the barbecues, but my favorites have to be the kare kare and daing na bangus paired with their homemade vinegar. Five stars on the food. As for customer service, however, like other reviews have mentioned, they fall short on that. All the times I’ve gone, the staff wasn’t friendly, medyo masungit, with some even looking annoyed. Oh well. Sounds like a “It’s not me, it’s you” problem lol. As long as it doesn’t affect their cooking, it won’t stop me from coming back for some tasty comfort food. Kain tayo!

Google
They have the best pork sisig. I also love their pork barbecue and silver fish. Good Filipino food all around. The staff are fast and friendly. The only downside is their prices, it's a bit expensive for me.

Google
Very rude staff, horrible customer service! Filipinos are known for their hospitality but not this business. They’re not even busy when we walked in so what’s the rudeness about? Will never recommend 👎🏼👎🏼

Google
Extremely Rude Staff & Poor Hygiene Practices I had a terrible experience at Nita’s Restaurant. The staff were not only rude but also visibly frustrated with me for no reason. Their attitude made the entire visit uncomfortable, as if I was inconveniencing them just by being there. Instead of providing basic customer service, they acted annoyed and dismissive, which was completely unprofessional. To make things worse, their hygiene practices were concerning. I saw a leafy vegetable stuck to the outside of a soup container, and instead of using tongs or gloves, the staff member touched it with her bare hand and put it back. That’s completely unsanitary and unacceptable in any food establishment. Between the terrible customer service and the lack of proper food handling, I don’t think I’ll be returning. I strongly don’t recommend this restaurant. I hope management takes these issues seriously because this kind of experience is unacceptable.

Google
Love the food, the people, and the prices. If you're looking for great Filipino dishes at a great price, this is definitely the place to go!

Google
Trying to be polite while placing an order from this place when calling 2 times and yet they were rude for hanging up. I rarely don't give out 1 star reviews, but for now there is a reason.

Google
They never have pinakbet ready until closer to noon, earlier if you're lucky.. I like my Filipino vegetables, especially to neutralize the other food high in cholesterol, etc . but that's Filipino food in general. Like most customers, I ordered the combos and due to the lack of prepared dishes ready to purchase and select from, I made the mistake of ordering kare kare. I explicitly told the young man I only wanted the vegetables from the chafing tray and either he was hard of hearing or indifferent and scooped out the disgusting tripe and God awful rubbery fatty "meat" which they apparently charge a hefty premium of $1!!. C'mon OWNER (s).....it's an entree so why charge extra for beef which certainly was not what was on my plate. My mother would cook oxtail which does constitute beef aka meat (that's not what was served in the foam container). God bless her soul..she'd be angry at me buying this horrible rendition prepared..However, the vegetables were sufficiently tasty in the kare kare ( although I had to improvise and bought bok choy at Seafood City and mixed it in when I arrived home) since there was no pinakbet to be found, despite the approaching lunch hour. Whatever.... I will commend the cook/chef for the fresh fried daing bangus..always consistent. I'll stay away from the peanut butter dish! I don't mind paying $1 extra on seafood since it seems other Filipino establishments in Carson do charge it BUT not for a beef entree or a quasi beef/ intestinal animal part. Nita's needs to step it up with their ludicrous pricing and please post prices..not one sign anywhere to be found! I frequent Historic Filipino Town in L.A. since I travel to downtown and the Valley but live in the Southbay..just a headsup..they don't price gouge. Please be consistent and be fair on your pricing and don't fluctuate like the stock market..just price it in. I hope Tita Celia's will open soon from the terrible fire.

Google
Sisig and BBQ on a stick are fantastic. Going back and telling friends to go try the food. Recommend going there early. After 4 pm not a big selection to choose from.

Yelp
My favorite dish in this place, Pork bbq and igado! They have variety of filipino dishes. Reasonable price. Servers are fast and friendly.

Yelp
The BBQ is WOW! and their sisig i# like it's made from their BBQ. The staff is very very helpful will definitely come back here....
google avatar

Yelp
The best pork barbecues! Don't forget to get the suka! They also accept credit cards now but with a very minimal fee. Place looks and feels clean.

Yelp
Staff is friendly, food is good, restaurant is somewhat clean, price is somewhat reasonable, variety of Filipino food options.

Yelp
We dined in on 5/6/23. There was only one person serving so the line was slow. We would have given this place easy 5 stars bc the food was excellent! Everything tasted authentic and full of flavors. We ordered: kare kare, menudo, afritada, pancit, pork bbq sticks, sisig. Kare kare's meat was super tender. They did not have oxtail but the meat they used is pretty good. I don't usually eat tripe but one snucked in and I tried it and it actually wasn't bad. It was clean tasting. Our bill was almost $80 and we asked for plates and we were charged $.25 cents for each! What? You can't even give your customers plates for free? It's not like they were reusable, they were styrofoam! Seriously?! That bug the heck out of me, service was not 5 stars! The place is ok. They have tables available for those eating in. Just beware that if you ask for plates, you will be charged $.25 each styrofoam throw away kind! The gentleman who was serving was nice and patient. The cashier lady isn't as friendly. The food is really good though so yes, we will be back but next time we'll order a combo so we can have a plate and rice already. Rice is $1 per small scoop. Prices are not the cheapest but the tasty food is worth it.

Yelp
Not impressed. Had the 2 item order. Chicken and the other was just green beans. 1 dessert and they charged me an outlandish $20. 2 stars because the dessert was good.

Kate P.

Yelp
Food is super yummy Pork bbq skewers are so yummy. One of co worker gave me and I'm going to get more soon!

Kenshin K.

Yelp
This is your regular Filipino turo turo restaurant. The place is clean and their food is freshly cooked and taste good. Our family specially love their sisig, pork, barbecue, igadu and kare-kare. Family owned so you feel the warmth of the staff (who are the owners). They are very friendly.
google avatar

Christopher B.

Yelp
Best Filipino food in the Carson area. Love their sisig, beef or pork. Love their pork bbq and pork isaw. It's nice enough inside that you can bring non-Filipino guests.
google avatar

April M.

Yelp
sarcastic & rude staff. poor customer service. if you ask them of their business hours- they get mad. might as well close if you get upset when customers call & ask on what time will your restaurant open or close!
google avatar

Yelp
I know prices went up especially food ingredients but come on just decide what price to charge people and not charge extra dollars for every meat dish selection. The base price is like 14 dollars but for every meat dish you pay extra 1 dollar. Why not just charge 16 dollars and do away with extras. On top of this food quality is sub par. The taste of the dishes are nothing g to be desired. It is no longer a go to place if you crave Filipino food. It's one and done for me.

Yelp
If you're looking for an authentic delicious Filipino fast food, this is the best so far! Gave them 4 stars only because my mom's cooking still the excellent one. But their pork bbq is die for.

Yelp
Authentic flavorful filipino food amazing customer service & staffs 100% recommended if you haven't came here !

Jet R.

Yelp
Service was rude the first time but decided to go back. Food is okay but price is very inconsistent. I hope that they change this ...seems like I was over charged. My second time here and I do not think I'll go back again.

Yelp
Literally drove 20 mins for Nita's . Yelp says 8pm they close . Arrived at 6:40 pm . The place closes at 6:30 ‍ lol like yelp gotta update . Fast !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
This restaurant used to have a fair price and quality food. NOT ANYMORE! The quality of service and food deteriorated. Also, price keeps changing every time after few days. This restaurant only accepts CASH. But prepare to pay tax and RECEIPT is not given. Think about that. Charging the customers more including tax and no proof of purchase. If you ask for a receipt, it only has the price breakdown without any details. Wonder how they declare sales to Uncle Sam. Lol Lower your price since you only accepts cash!

Yelp
The best Filipino food in Carson. Every craving is always satisfied and the staff is super friendly and sweet. They're happy to give "sabaw" (delicious broth) if you politely ask for it. Their sisig is a favorite and it's a dish we always order upon every visit. We keep coming back for more!
google avatar

Oz B.

Yelp
I love the food here. Hands down the best in Carson. Problem is the service is horrible. I've been coming here every so often since they opened. My visit today was the last straw. Service was so bad I'm just gonna drive to Cerritos for my Filipino fix even though I live in Carson.
google avatar

Bernice B.

Yelp
I come here for the sisig! One of the OG Filipino restaurants established in Carson. Must try. Great menu selection. I believe they circulate their menu options depending on the day. It's best to call and ask if they have what you're craving that day. Plaza parking. The price is right. Cafeteria style. Indoor seating only.
google avatar

Kulit M.

Yelp
This 5 star alone is for their Sisig, the smokiness and taste could never be compared to any other sisig nor the traditional one but a must try even once in your lifetime.

Anniepotskie E.

Yelp
There are a lot of filipino restaurants in Carson, I can honestly say, Nita's is the BEST, Employees @ Nita's are all FRIENDLY. Restaurant is clean and organized. Price is reasonable.
google avatar

Jennifer B.

Yelp
What can I say good food. Especially love the bbq sticks and pork sisig. making me hungry now.
google avatar

Brit A.

Yelp
I did not eat here because the line was too long. However, the chimney was producing A LOT of smoke which was concerning and is very bad for the environment.
google avatar

Antonette N.

Yelp
Highly recommended place. Food is great, clean place, staff & owner's are great too! You must try their stick bbq & Ears. First time trying their homemade suka.

Calaramo R.

Yelp
I was so disappointed with this place, I ordered a karekare for thanksgiving when my husband when to go pick it up, he was told that they gave my order to somebody else. So when you order for a party make sure to keep update or else you wont have any food to serve. Not a reliable place to order.

Ptrn P.

Yelp
Service is excellent, orders for pick up always peeped ahead . Sisig s very very good!

Jenny P.

Yelp
I want to give this place a ZERO if I could! Service is very poor! Nita's used to be a very good Filipino restaurant. The quality of service and taste of food deteriorated. I bought 2 combos. The owner dumped both kare kare and pork ribs side by side with the sauce seeping all over the container and plastic bag. The sauce mixed altogether and you wouldn't even understand the taste of what you are eating. It looked nasty too! I am NOT coming back again. So many better options here in Carson for Filipino food.

Melanie S.

Yelp
The best in the west! Try it, you'll love it here and you'll keep coming back! They've been doing this for decades.

Keii R.

Yelp
We love going to this Filipino restaurant. Hospitable and hardworking owners/ workers on top of great tasting food. My new favorite is the "Pinamalhang (paksiw) Bangus"! Satisfies my craving for Ilonggo food. Did not disappoint.

CRISTINA V.

Yelp
The pork barbecue skewers are the best!! So tender and flavorful. Rest of the dishes are great too. The place though it's a fast food is not really conducive for dining. It's a storage/kitchen/ eating area. Better take-out option.

Chloe D.

Yelp
this is my go to place to grab lunch :) love their version of the following dishes: pork bbq pinakbet mung beans (the only version of munggo i eat is from this place) sisig (their version is like liempo with a hint of lemon and onion) spicy sweet ribs chicken curry chicken afritada sinigang buko pandan (this could be improved by adding more buko though) pancit (i saw one review here saying that this place is cheap for not including pancit as part of their combo. their pancit has lots of meat and vegetables, it's not plain noodles so it's understandable that it's sold as an entree. i'd rather pay than get a plain, boring noodles) I also appreciate that they don't tolerate people who try to cut the line.

Yelp
If you want the absolute bestest of the best filipino food, then you have landed at the right place. My favorite dish was bistek and the bbq sticks. The staff is super freindly and the atmosphere is very welcoming to non filipinos.
google avatar

JP Z.

Yelp
The food reminds me of home cooking. If you want to try filipino spaghetti go over here. Pros: food taste like home cooking Cons: the food selection is different everyday, one day you will have spaghetti and the next day it's pancit, so you really don't know what to expect, not consistent Another con would be they do not accept credit cards CASH only!

Andrew G.

Yelp
Been coming here for years. Food is good but after years of coming here to this mom and pop restaurant I will no longer come here nor will I recommend anyone to come here. You'll get robbed right in front of your eyes and be fine with it. I come here and get the same thing every time. Last 3 times I crane here I had 3 different charges. Today I came and got 3 combo plates and I seen the lady charge me random amounts each time three $1 charges including a random $3. When I asked her how much she was explaining to me what they were for and didn't add up. I understand it's a old register and they had to charge manually but the random amounts and no receipt. They don't have a set price for what you ask for. Another reason is the food portioning is getting smaller each time. I asked if I can have some extra sauce and she said it wouldn't fit but she did anyways and took meat out and pressed the cover down so hard it cracked the lid and the juices came out. This place sucks, no other way to say it. Food is good, but not good enough for the random charges and portions.

Janice R.

Yelp
This restaurant sucks they deleted my previous post about customer service. They have the worse customer service ever and I still remember that day that the individual handed my to go box and how he just threw it on the table and left. Please do something about your staff and don't delete negative post because it won't be an accurate review. This just show how mess up this business is will see how long this review stays on here.

Yelp
Sisig, Caldareta, Rice, Dessert and Royal Orange Soda for 7 bucks! From my understanding, Sisig is a few different meats originating from the pig's head. This, along with Crispy Pata, are two of my top five dishes. Years ago, a friend of mine from Papanga told me that Sisig was Kapampangan and meant eating sour snacks. That is pretty much my history lesson for the day and I am not sure how true it is. What is true is that this place offers up some decent food for a cheap price during lunch. It is relatively clean and they only accept cash. It was not the best Filipino food I have had, and believe me I have had plenty, but it was AOK. There was a coconut based dessert that was seriously good. Five stars. I wish I knew the name. Customer service was great. Parking was easy. Overall, AOK.

Ver L.

Yelp
I bought an XL lechon kawali and half of it is purely fat, no meat while the other half have a little bit of meat. I paid about $20 for fats. Some staff are rude.

Yelp
Ahh I think Nita's is one of my favorite Filipino turo-turo places. What: turo-turo you ask? Well the literally the English translantion is "point-point. I believe this is because customers go into the restaurant and point out which dishes they want . My two favorite dishes that I "point" at here are their bbq sticks and their beef pepper steak. They sell their bbq sticks for a $1.50 each and they are some of the best in town. Unlike other bbq sticks, the bbq pork is very lean and not fatty. The beef pepper steak is another great dish. It has bell peppers and sweet beef mixed together. They offer some other goodies such as pancit (Filipino noodles), sweet Filipino spaghetti (the sweet kind with Filipino ketchup) and good old Filipino fried chicken. This used to be a small place but as it became more popular with the customers, they expanded their restaurant. They have a more spacious place now and plenty of tables for folks. There seems to be always a line when I come here. That alone should be testimony to how popular and good this place is. I came to pick up some food for Christmas and the line was almost out the door. If you want to try good Filipino food with decent prices and great portions, you should check Nita's out :).

Reeden O.

Yelp
If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. first time trying it and u notice it's cash only. No biggie, I went ahead and ordered 2 combos, the lady charged me extra for fried chicken that is old, cold, rubbery and is just plain inedible. I also ordered some grilled tilapia so I politely asked if I could have some bagoong. The old lady behind the counter said "we don't have any" when clearly, standing right behind her is a jar of bagoong. All in all, horrible experience, the food tasted old, nothing was good and most of them went in the trash coz u can't even eat them. Will I come back? DEFINITELY NOT. One more thing, if you guys are looking for Filipino food, there's plenty here in carson. It's a shame that our culture is known for good food and hospitality. This place lacks both.
google avatar

Merlie P.

Yelp
Never again!! I asked my husband to stop by this restaurant. I asked him to get a combo no rice just noodles. They said noodles is considered an entree. So he brought home rice and the smallest to go containers that other restaurants use for sauces to go. This restaurant is too cheap!!! How much is a freakin' noodles?
google avatar

Gen C.

Yelp
If you're craving for great sisig (Filipino dish- beef cut into small pieces with chopped up onions, peppers and marinated for that great lemony taste) this is the place to go. They also serve home cooked Filipino favorites like pork BBQ skewers, kaldereta (stew in tomato sauce and bell peppers), kare kare (beef in peanut sauce), etc. when you order your dish over the phone for pick up, always make sure to call ahead of time as they tend to "run out". My thought is that they just sell them to walk in customers who are ready to pay for the dish (sure $$$) and prepare new ones for phone orders. In case you come and try to pick up your order and they are "still preparing" it.....yeah sure (wink-wink) .
google avatar

Jamie L.

Yelp
The food here is without a doubt is really good, and they are well-known for the pork bbq sticks, and the Filipino spaghetti. For almost 2 weeks I have been calling and walking into this restaurant, for the Filipino spaghetti. The problem in that is that they haven't had any for quite some time now. Sort of strange that they don't have any of what they are well known for. Spaghetti is fairly simple and Filipino spaghetti may be less complicated. Very disappointing, and I'm getting a little weary of calling every day and taking the time out to drive there, just to find out they don't even have any for the day! And when I ask them when they'll be serving it again, they tell me they don't know. Such a poor answer to give a customer. A former regular customer! I don't get what happened???
google avatar

Maggie C.

Yelp
My friend brought a pork bbq stick to work for me and it was pretty good. She ordered some BBQ for us before going to the casino. She also got me sisig since that's my favorite Filipino dish. I picked up daing bangus and sinigang to complete our dinner. Pork bbq sticks ($1.75): actually better than the one that my friend brought to the office. It was meaty, sweet and just delicious. Sisig: what a disappointment. Where is the skin? It was just meat and wasn't marinated well. My favorite sisig is from Magic Wok in Artesia. I actually went to Magic Wok few days after going to Nita's because I wanted a great sisig. Sinigang ($7.50 for large): not my favorite sinigang..it was missing something. I prefer the one from Magic Wok too. Daing bangus ($3.50): basically $1.75 for each fish and it was just okay. 3.5 stars!! I would come back for the BBQ again. QUICK TIPS: CASH ONLY. IT'S IN THE SAME PLAZA AS TONY'S BBQ AND ANGELITO'S MARKET. Nita's Restaurant is almost yummylicious!!

Yelp
When I miss my mom's cooking, I tend to hit up places looking for my fix. Earlier this week, that craving brought me to Nita's. That and trusty ol' Yelp. It's not too far from work and it's located in a strip mall. Parking was okay but maybe it depends on the time of day. Place is a typical Filipino - point point - assembly line like. Don't expect creature comforts as far as the dining room goes. No service. You pick. You pay. You sit. You eat. I went simple - Menudo and BBQ Sticks with rice. Well, I don't eat much rice but at least it was cooked well. How well rice is cooked is one way I rate certain restaurants and this place passed. Not that I came here rice though. My other two selections were okay. Tender, a little on the dry side but decent portions for the price. I felt the Menudo could have used a little more salt but overall, it was okay. If I'm wandering around and feeling the craving, I'd stop by again if I couldn't find another place to try.
google avatar

MARGIE I.

Yelp
I gots to say I'm a fan cause I really like their sweet ribs! They don't always have it everyday, so I usually call and make sure they have it before I head over there. The free soup that they serve is pretty good too.
google avatar

Angelo D.

Yelp
Nita's is the best place to eat Filipino food. They have a variety of choices to choose from. Whenever I get the chance to eat there, it's so hard to decide what my two entrees will be. The best part is that I'm never disappointed. I love the bbq and the Kare Kare. Every time I eat, I feel like I'm at home. The food tastes like you're eating a home-cooked meal. It's so nostalgic. Also, the workers are very nice. They are very interactive with you. There's this one worker in particular, I think her name is Kim. She is outstanding and friendly. Everyone there makes my experience complete. This restaurant definitely encompasses the "kaibigan" atmosphere.

Yelp
This was my first time eating Filipino food. I was in Carson and did not feel like a burger, so I looked up my trusty Yelp app and headed here. I was probably the only non-Filipino in the place, which is always a good sign. Food is laid out on the steam table, so I asked for recommendations. I had a chicken soup-like dish and fried chicken. The beef dish another patron recommended was out, and I don't eat pork, so I was left with the chicken. The soup was decent, with a few root veggies. The broth was good with the rice. The fried leg and thigh were very juicy and tasty. I also had a banana in a filo-like pastry wrap, fried crispy. I love these types of desserts, and this was good, but it would have been better if it was a bit fresher, warm right out of the fryer instead of sitting under the heat lamps. It will not make it into my regular meal rotation, but it was good and a very worthwhile detour for lunch from the usual.
