Niu Soft Serve - Review - McCully - Oahu - The Infatuation

"Maximalist, plant-based soft serve reigns supreme at this McCully-Mo’ili’ili spot. Sundaes get dressed up with everything from whipped cream and salted fudge to fruity pebbles, Oreos, and waffle bits. The flavors rotate weekly, but expect to see things like ube, strawberry cream, or cookie butter. Build your own or pick from the menu of combinations—the “I Really Liliko’i You” with lilikoi mango sauce, mac nuts, and whipped cream is a tangy stunner." - Julia Chen

Google
Visited last month for the first time and my TIP would be to get a combination of flavors! I got Niu (Coconut) and Ube with Hot Kulolo! Absolutely loved that it is Non-Dairy and my next visit I will try more toppings. Very delicious and I will be back!! Located at 2320 South King St. Honolulu, HI 96826 - In Old Stadium Mall - By L&L Hawaiian BBQ and Kozo Sushi. The cool thing about this shopping center are the options for food and entertainment (Favorite combo is Food+ Clawsters + Niu)

I always stop at Niu multiple times every time I visit Oahu. As a dairy-free girly, their soft serve doesn’t get much better than this. I absolutely love their Niu (coconut) flavor. It’s creamy, smooth and perfect in flavor. Their staff is always SO friendly as well. One thing thats always stands out to me is that they bring your order to you- instead of calling out your name for you to get it. Whether you’re the only person there or it’s busy. It’s a nice gesture. Thank you Niu soft serve parlor- can’t wait to be back on my next visit :)

Google
This is a hidden gem in Honolulu! They stay open till 8 pm (Friday and Saturday is 9 pm, Sunday is 6pm) There is a parking lot and some street parking right outside the store so it’s convenient but it was a bit packed when we went on Friday night at around 8 pm. The staff was really nice and friendly, they gave great recommendations and samples, they even helped us look for seats! This place has less than 20 seats so it might take a while to wait if you want to eat there:) There were so many options on their menu! We had a make your own bowl with coconut, ube and creamy lemon soft serve. The portion was decent, the sesame brittle and mochi bites were my favorite toppings! Everything was vegan so it didn’t feel heavy at all after we finished all our soft serve! They make their own waffle cones but it was sold out that night (it must be good tho!) There were some pies and pints options in the fridge. We would love to go back and try out more options!!

We went here at about 2 pm on a Sunday. It was quiet when we arrived, but packed (line out the door) when we left. I guess we have that effect. My daughter dragged us here for the ice cream. I stayed for the peanut butter. They are super friendly and the food is top-notch. Worth a visit if you don't mind getting a bit away from the main drag of Waikiki.

Jacob Ledesma

Google
Hooked by the smell of the fresh waffle cones, and took a chance on the pandan malt. Had to go with some sprinkles to change the vibe to the Tuesday. I think next time we’ll have to be a bit more adventurous and try a new topping.

Google
Niu is a small dessert parlor in Honolulu near the Waikiki strip. We were surprised to find that their soft serves are dairy, free, and made from coconut milk. The parlor also has other desserts, such as baked goods, ice cream sandwiches, shakes, and a holoholo pie that is also made of coconut ice cream. Service is friendly. Desserts are delicious. If you are looking for a good dairy free alternative, I would definitely check this place out. Even if you’re not, I would still check it out anyway.

Google
It was an okay ice cream shop. They only have 4 flavors of soft serve- coconut, ube, strawberry, and green tea. They were out of strawberry which is what we wanted. The place is small and got crowded very fast. The service was slow with only 2 workers but they were friendly and helpful. We paid almost $20 for one milkshake and one sundae. The ice cream itself was okay, not bad but not great. We won’t be going back.

Robert Murphy

Google
The Sundae, I Really Lilikoʻi You (Creamy Lilikoʻi ice cream with Lilikoʻi mango sauce, Mac nuts, fresh strawberries, whipped niu), was off the charts in flavor and freshness profile! You have to experience Niu for yourself because words can't truly describe my experience.

Yelp
The first time I came to Niu, I didn't know they were dairy free. If nobody had told me, I would have been none the wiser. This place makes amazing soft serve. Not "amazing for being dairy free soft serve" - amazing soft serve, full stop. I've been back a couple of times now and while everything I've tried is delicious, the hot kulolo sundae has been my favorite. Their ice cream flavors rotate fairly often, so you might not be able to recreate a past experience, but I think it's hard to go wrong with whatever choices are currently on the menu. The shop is small with just a few tables inside and can get crowded during busy times. Staff is always friendly and while you might need to wait to order during a rush, your ice cream will get prepped pretty quickly after you order. They share a parking lot with several other nearby businesses and I have noticed that there's usually plenty of parking during the day, but it gets pretty full during dinner/at night. There's usually street parking nearby if you need it.

Yelp
The cookie was the surprise star of the show! It was gooey and had a delicious crisp on the outside. Similar to the levain cookie from NYC-- it surprised me! Quick service and good dessert options.

Yelp
Dare I say this is my favorite ice cream I've had on Oahu... ever?! It's definitely top 3!!! WOW!! Their soft serve is UNREAL. I got the ube and coconut swirl cone and it was sooooo yummy. It tasted so local and unique, flavor wise. I loved the texture of the ice cream... it's creamy yet icy. They also give drip sleeves which is genius. Even the waffle itself was super tasty. My party also ordered an Oreo ube shake and peanut butter mocha shake... both were delicious There's a few tables and chairs inside to enjoy your dessert. The only downside is their location.... Parking was really hard to get at 7pm on a Sunday. In addition, it's hard to find. You can't see it from the street. It is totally worth dealing with parking for how amazing their dessert is. I will for sure come back and tell everyone I know about my new favorite place!

Yelp
@fortunefoodfinds: "Got that NIU new! Thai Tea n' Makaha Mango soft serve swirl + a Holoholo Pie (Toasted Niu Ice Cream Pie topped with hot salted fudge, Niu whip, n' Mac nuts) from Niu Soft Serve. This was so yuMmmy especially being hawt out, a frozen treat is what it's all about!" Staff: friendly Interior: good amount of seating Exterior: has a bench available for seating Wait time: 5-10 mins Parking: small lot and street Overall comments: L.O.V.E. their soft serve that is dairy-free! Always look forward to what flavors they come out next and/or bring back. Aside from soft serve they got shakes, drinks, cookies, n' pies. Can't remember the first time I had Niu, but they are known for their hot kulolo sundae. A family-friendly local spot that brings us back time n' time again!

Yelp
I absolutely love all things ube and I saw that this spot was on Yelp's Top 100 Places to Eat in Honolulu so I knew I had to check it out. They offer a variety of soft serve, sundaes, and drinks. I opted for the ube and coconut soft serve swirl and I thought it was the perfect sweet treat to cool myself down on a warm day. The ube flavor in the soft serve was strong which I appreciated. I'm also usually not a fan of coconut flavored things, but actually really enjoyed it here, which surprised me. They offer samples for the soft serve so be sure to take advantage of that if you're unsure on what to order. Service here was quick and friendly. The store itself is bright and welcoming and has a decent amount of spots to sit to enjoy your sweet treat. Overall, I'd recommend this spot!

Yelp
Kiddo loves his pandan and wanted a sweet treat so we had to check out Niu. He ordered the pandan and coconut, which he loved. I went with the Hot Kulolo Sundae with the pandan and Thai tea swirl. Loved the kulolo and mac nuts with the soft serve - such a satisfying sweet treat.

Shyanne C.

Yelp
Got to check out this ice cream shop. Clean, Staff was welcoming and super helpful since first timers we didn't know what or how to order. The guy was amazing and suggested a few things. Ended up getting the Orange Cream Slush with sweet Cream it was 10/10! And a keiki cup. Definitely me and my sons go to place after practices!

Yelp
After a wonderful dinner with family, we were in the mood for a sweet treat that was refreshing and not overly sweet or heavy. My cousins suggested Niu Soft Serve nearby, and it turned out to be the best decision! Niu Soft Serve offers a fantastic variety of base flavors and unlimited combinations. We couldn't resist trying a bit of everything, and each flavor was delightful. My personal favorite was the Niu with lilikoi and macadamia nuts--absolutely delicious! Other family members enjoyed the ube, pandan, and Thai tea flavors. Every option was incredibly "Ono" and the perfect way to end a great 4th of July weekend with the family. We'll definitely be back for more tasty treat and awesome friendly service.

Yelp
Decided to check this place out. Was thinking about getting a sundae but didn't want to eat at the store and thought to messy to drive with so I ordered a malted shake (Mocha Peanut Butta) for $9.50. Service - not sure if they liked working there as order taker didn't smile or welcome customers. 3 stars Taste - good. 5 stars Price - expensive. 3 stars Then I thought more about what goes into why the price seems expensive for around 12 oz of shake (see photo about size of a soda can). Owner(s) has to pay rent/insurance of a store space vs small food truck, State of Hawaii mandated increase minimum wage, raw materials to Hawaii cost more, and they have to make a little profit. So rating is 3 stars if I have to pay for the shake as I can't afford to visit often. 4-5 stars if someone else treats me there.

Yelp
This place is chef's kiss! I've been coming here for a sweet little treat since 2022?! Time flies! I'm happy they're still around. I don't stop by super often, but when I do, I always order the same thing: the Mocha Peanut Butta Malt Shake. It's my go to! There's just something so baelife about the combo--the subtle coconut taste, with the peanut butter drizzle inside the cup, the mocha malts, and that powdered peanut butter mixed in. It's so good! I also love that it's dairy free, which is a big plus for me. As I'm getting older, I think I've become more sensitive to dairy--even though I hardly eat it to begin with (maybe that's why?). Anyway, this spot is so cutesy and perfect for bringing friends or family, or even for a debatable quicky first date. Also really love their website and whoever does their graphics and signage, well done! Overall Highly recommend!

Yelp
Niu Soft Serve Parlour is easy to miss--just another storefront in the middle of a strip center--but stepping inside is refreshingly laid-back and cheerful. Tonight's swirl was ube and coconut: creamy, balanced, and not too sweet. They switch flavors every two weeks, so there's always something new to look forward to. I tried the mocha peanut butta shake--an intriguing mix of nutty and coffee notes. Probably not an every-time pick for me, but worth sampling.
google avatar

Gary M.

Yelp
Friendly employees and atmosphere. The regular flavors of Ube and niu are my all time flavors. Two new local flavors are introduced every two weeks, and they are so Ono. The sauces that are offered are awesome additions. I like it also because it is owned and operated by a local family.
google avatar

Yelp
I heard great things about this place and I was not disappointed. I love ice cream and wanted to try this local vegan place. I ordered the hot kulolo sundae with coconut soft serve. It was a match made in heaven! Kulolo and coconut go so well together. The mac nuts gave it a nice crunch. I will be back to have this again. I also saw someone get it with a half-half of coconut and ube and that sounds amazing as well. Parking: Lot in front. Have to get lucky to get a stall. If not then street parking.

Yelp
Found this on yelp on a earlier visit to Honolulu but never had a chance to give them a try! Well tonight had dinner at Golden Eagle and walked across to Nui soft serve for dessert all within the 1 hour free parking limit! What a awesome find - great friendly service answering questions- Letting us know how it all works - and gave us samples - all good flavors We got the Lilikoi cream so good ! Excellent soft serve just know I'll be skipping dinner and going straight to the soft serve next time

Yelp
While visiting my dear friend at her home in Honolulu, I decided that the weather was too perfect and I absolutely NEEDED ice cream. So we hopped in her car and I forced her to drive me to get soft serve. Now this was no ordinary soft serve - it was vegan ube soft serve. I get chills writing that. It was SO GOOD. The ube flavor came through in the best way and it felt like a beautiful ballet happening across my taste buds. Of course I asked for biscoff cookies with the soft serve, but I was not expecting actual chunks of cookie...I wanted biscoff crumble...but I persevered, and I used it as a spoon for dipping. This stuff was a game changer. It was so good I would honestly make the trip back just to chow down on this once more. Delicious!

Michelle W.

Yelp
This was surprisingly fantastic. We had the coconut soft serve with coffee almonds, and it was amazing. Nice people, comfortable atmosphere, but bare bones. Priced well and super yummy. Looking forward to coming back!

Yelp
Love soft served ice cream so had to find one after a wonderful lunch. We remembered seeing this place so thought to check it out. Had the ube coconut with nuts peanut butter & fudge drizzled on it. Yum!! Just the right amount and not too sweet. Support local businesses when you can -this one is a winner

Yelp
Amazing place! Delicious cookies and top tier ice cream. We only wish we tried it earlier in our trip so that we were able to come every day! lol Ice cream was exceptional, not too sweet but full of flavor. We got to try their miso caramel cookie, soft inside and crunchy on the outside. The perfect cookie. 10/10 experience! Sesame brittle was also a must try topping! Coffee lovers, don't skip out on the coffee almonds, they're so yummy. Good service, good vibes! Downside: closed on Mondays

Yelp
Great spot for ice cream! This shop is located in a small plaza along S King Street. Parking is available in the plaza lot, which can get kind of busy on the weekend or Friday night; there is some street parking available as well so you might have to hunt around for a bit. There's a bench outside and some seating inside! Service is pretty friendly! I ordered the ube matchazuki (matcha, azuki paste, mochi), and it came out quickly. I loved how soft and smooth it was; the ube flavor was delicious, and the red bean paste and mochi complemented the ube very well. Portion size was pretty good for the price too! You can also buy pints of soft serve to bring home with you. Definitely will come back to try their seasonal flavors and other offerings.
google avatar

Yelp
I got their Ube soft serve with warm kulolo and Mac nuts, Delicious!! Will definitely be back

Yelp
From the soft-serve to cookies to service, Niu Soft Serve is awesome! Even if you're blessed with a gastrointestinal system full of lactase, the deliciously creamy soft serve here will satisfy your dessert cravings! Their fall offerings I've tried included the pumpkin spice and chai flavors, both of which have enough spice to warm your tongue and heart. My favorite topping is the warm kulolo--genius! On my past few visits they've had caramel miso cookies. The freshly baked cookies are crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. If you have enough foresight to buy extras for later, they still taste great the next day! I'm so glad this place survived COVID!
google avatar

Jazelle A.

Yelp
Despite the tight parking and limited seating, this place did not disappoint! They were short-staffed the day I went, so we had to wait pretty long to order. But it smells soo good in there. I highly recommend the hot kulolo sundae!
google avatar

Yelp
Upon entering Niu we were warmly greeted and offered samples. We first tried the toasted Niu (5/5) then creamy mango (5/5) then Niu (5/5). The toasted Niu is a special flavor that reminds me a toasted coconut candy. The creamy mango is made from Hayden mangoes and tastes like a perfectly ripe and juicy mango. The Niu is also very delicious and refreshing. My cousin and I were blown away. Prices are reasonable considering that Niu is local and locally sourced. You can just taste the fresh ingredients and aloha that goes into the soft serve. They even sell pints of the soft serve which we happily purchased for our family. Buy 4 get one free! Score! Parking is ample and free. But it can get busy because of the restaurants that share the lot. During the time we visited, it was easy and had lots of available stalls. I love Niu not just because it has delicious, locally sourced ingredients, and is dairy free. But also because the person helping us was so nice and you could tell he was happy to tell us about the various flavors and offer samples. Highly recommend visiting Niu and supporting local businesses! I'll definitely be back! LOCATION: 4/5 FOOD: 5/5 SERVICE: 5/5 VALUE: 4:5 AMBIANCE: 4/5 PET FRIENDLY: possibly , not sure CLEANLINESS: 4/5 PARKING: 4/5

Yelp
Nice soft serve. They have a lot of parking. Staff is friendly and the have flavors rotating often

Yelp
Lactose intolerants of the world unite! We tried the 2 specials here and we're impressed by the intense yuzu lemon and Chai masala flavors. You get a large serving in a cup for less than $7.00 which is quite a deal nowadays. Our server was very friendly and helpful. Parking can be a small issue as the lot serves at least 5 other businesses.
google avatar

Juls H.

Yelp
There was a long line that went out the door. Probably due to timing, weekend after dinner. It's a family run business. Tried the ube niu soft serve. Delicious and light. Dairy free has come a long way!
google avatar

Lizzy Z.

Yelp
A friend and I split the hot kulolo sundae with niu and ube soft serve - it was so ono the warm, gooey kulolo complements the cold ice cream so nicely, and the mac nuts add a great crunchy textural element. Awesome local-inspired dessert! I like that there is a bench outside if you prefer outdoor seating.
google avatar

Jason M.

Yelp
Nui soft serve with warm kulolo is so delicious! And so refreshing as we wait in the hot Sun outside till they opened, was in the area so it was worth the wait! The do a bunch of other things as well check out the menu! Service was fast and got our order very quick! Keep up the great work!

Yelp
Such a good spot for dairy free soft serve! The ube is delicious and not too sweet. Get the hot kulolo sundae with the condensed milk!!!

Yelp
I came here to meet two Yelp friends, Jackie and Tami. Thanks ladies for a wonderful afternoon here. Jackie treated me and my daughter to desserts. My daughter and I decided to go with the milkshakes. I got the Uber cookies and cream milkshake. This drink was delicious and tasted on point. Bits of cookies inside. Yum. I want to thank Jackie for treating us. The inside was nice and there were tables to enjoy your dessert. Highly recommend this location. The people working here were friendly and quick to serve your dessert.. They open at 1 pm and parking may be a bit difficult.

Yelp
Hit our regular soft serve store...Niu Soft Serve....always a wonderful way to end the day. We ordered two strawberry slush floats with niu soft serve. So cold and yummy.....we usually order the shakes......but this, treat is a nice alternative. Our favorite place for soft serve. They have a cute dine in area...typical of an old timey ice cream shop....nice...and very busy since they are soooo popular. We will definitely be returning:)
google avatar

Yelp
The Hot Kukolo Sundae with toasted macadamia nuts and warm kulolo sauce is next level. Staff is friendly and helpful. Perfect treat after the beach or dinner. Easily one of the best soft serves on Oahu!!!!
google avatar

Hurnan V.

Yelp
Came after dinner to try a new dessert in the area. It's completely dairy free, so a great alternative for those with dietary restrictions. It's based on coconut milk, so while you can taste a hint of coconut, the base flavor is very strong. I tried the strawberry, which was very fruit forward. I ended up getting the miso peanut butter, which was super yummy and nutty! Looking forward to coming back to try other flavors!
google avatar

Yelp
First time coming here and loved it! I ordered the earl grey tea and creamy lilikoi, totally yummy and worth it! The nui condensed was great choice to go with it. Definitely made me want it more. It's a great dessert for me since it's dairy free! Definitely will be coming again!
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
Delicious flavors of soft serve that often rotate weekly or monthly. Ube and coconut (Niu) are the standard mix of flavors in the soft serve swirl and is very good. Dairy free so extra yummy without any lactose problems.

Jack H.

Yelp
Amazing soft serve, 10/10 Not just good for being plant based fyi lol, it's actually good.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a hidden gem! DAIRY-FREE delicious soft serve! Now I can enjoy milkshakes again. :) I love chocolate, so a chocolate malt shake add Mac nuts is my go-to. You would never guess it's dairy-free. The staff are so friendly and also offered my dog a pup cup. The inside is simple and casual, fit for possible ice cream spillage hehe, with a handful of tables. Thanks, Niu Soft Serve!

Yelp
I came here with work friends on a hot sunny day. My friend was raving about the hot kulolo sundae, so I had to try it! LOCATION: They are in that small shopping/eating plaza across of stadium park (mauka side of King Street). Their shop is on the Ewa side. However, anywhere you park it's very easy walking distance. PARKING: Depending on the time of day, the free parking lot can get busy. However, there is street parking on King Street and it's a block away from Longs if you want to park there. The lot frees up often though so patience will get you in. SERVICE: I've been here twice and both times the staff were super friendly and helpful when trying to decide which dessert to get. FOOD: I'm indecisive and always willing to try new things. If you're new to Niu, I suggest going outside of your normal and trying their specialty flavors or sundaes. I'm normally not a coconut fan... but the staff suggested the "Sunrise" sundae over coconut soft serve. Oh my-gasm in my mouth!!!! I wanted to order another one but I had to go to a dinner shortly after. I know, don't judge... I went and got dessert before dinner. I also suggest the "Hot Kulolo" sundae over Ube soft serve. Not many places serve Kulolo on their desserts. It's definitely worth a try if you haven't had it before. I've also tried their "Kanaks" sundae over Ube. If you're a peanut butter fan, this is definitely your choice. I just learned that they have baked goods, pies and their soft serve is Vegan! I'm not Vegan but for some reason in my head, calling it Vegan sounds like superfood health dessert.... So it's ok to order more than one dessert for yourself. Overall, this soft serve shop is the bomb diggity!!! How often is the McD's machine working on a hot sunny day. Plus, Niu's soft serve is an extreme upgrade in my book. It's cold out today but I'm craving their sunrise sundae again.

Yelp
My wife and I were out for a drive yesterday. We had heard about this place from relatives and wanted to try it. The young lady who took our order was very helpful, she genuinely wanted us to have a good experience there. I liked the Vietnamese coffee and miso peanut butter (who would have thought?) blend with waffle bits topping. My wife liked her use and Niu blend. It's hard to believe that these are non-dairy! So good!
google avatar

Cantalise F.

Yelp
Very cute little spot to go to for desserts! Hidden but very adorable vibes inside. Nice AC nice workers and a good amount of items on the menu! I recommend the "I really lilikoi you" sundae or the Ube cookies & crème shake

Yelp
Updating my review to add couple more pics. I want to go back! My favorite soft serve it has my heart
google avatar

Ross T.

Yelp
Love this place the staff and owners are so nice it like going to visit a friend's home! The sitting area is clean and they sanitize the seating area by the workers or even the owners get in there! The items they serve is gluten free and dairy free and the flavors are like eating the real thing. Love the different flavors they offer and the regular ones they always keep in stock, but introduce new ones weekly. Pet friendly and you know the regulars there dogs know the workers and sit and wait for their pup cup to be served to them free of charge! If you haven't tried this place you should give it a try!
google avatar

Michelle D.

Yelp
We both shared their toasted coconut and ube soft serve. Both were so delicious! I loved the strong coconut flavour. My bf got the ube soft serve with mac nuts and it added another depth of texture. The waffle cone isn't the best as it leaks at the bottom (I'm thinking they noticed this already as the waffle cone holder doesn't leak). Loved the ice cream! Service was nice as well.
google avatar

Dianna R.

Yelp
This is a great dairy free shop. The staff was nice and the service was fast. I wish the interior was a bit more finished looking, My biggest issue was that they let a dog into the store (not a service dog). I personally feel uneasy around dogs and hate when people do that. It would have been 5 stars, but that really put a damper on my enjoyment. I left before finishing my soft serve because of it. The lemon was very strong in flavour. The hojicha was so light I could barely taste it when contrasted with the lemon.
google avatar

Red G.

Yelp
Subtle flavors....coconut (Niu) and Ube (Sweet purple potato) Very good, not as sweet, light on flavors. I don't eat sweets but took a taste and would have appreciated a stronger flavor profile. If I'm going to eat it, I want to taste a stronger flavor. B - Kinda Recommend
google avatar

Michelle I.

Yelp
Super refreshing dessert options. Nondairy soft serve. Four soft serve options to choose from. Their classic flavors are Niu (coconut) and Ube (purple yam). There's two rotating flavors. Today's rotating flavors were hojicha (roasted green tea) and creamy lemon. I ordered the Kanaks sundae with swirl of both Niu and Ube. The sundae was topped with malt, peanut butter, and salted fudge . Recommend! Staff were super nice and helpful with flavor recommendations. Clean and simple interior. Parking lot out front. They have an IG @niusoftserve

Yelp
Friendly staff and the girl at the counter was very patient with us since it was our first time. She let us try all the flavors and they were delicious! I love that they're all dairy free and gluten free. We had an issue with our order but they were quick to address it. Great customer service!
