"Local Specialties with Romantic Lake View Restaurant Nix's is located directly on the lakefront in Lucerne in a historic building that dates back to the 16th century. Featuring Continental cuisine with an Austrian influence, Nix's prides itself on fresh, local ingredients and seasonal menu. For the fall, for example, menu items include pumpkin beer soup with dumplings, oven braised rabbit stew, deer schnitzel with saffron noodles, and an autumnal salad with roasted wild mushrooms. The restaurant has a beautiful terrace that abuts Lake Lucerne - a beautiful spot for a bottle of wine while watching the sun set."

My wife and I are visiting from Texas. We happened into Nix's. We are SO glad we did! The staff was friendly and accommodating, their English was very good and appreciated. The food was excellent! The gift plate from the chef, green salad, entrées, and dessert were all fantastic! If you get the chance, you will want to try this place. Bravo! Wish we could eat here regularly. My wife particularly liked the ambiance, especially all the candles. She raved that her vegetarian entrée was the best vegetarian meal she has ever had. That is saying something for someone who spent almost a decade in a vegetarian community in California. Thank you Nix's for a wonderful evening!

Very delicious good, great vibes, cozy atmosphere, friendly staff! Highly recommend. We had the daily special roast mushroom soup, roast beef appetizer, slow cook beef cheek, and trout - all good!

Stumbled upon this restaurant for lunch while deciding on what to eat in the area - and was served with 2 paper menu for the salad or French pizza (Flammekueche they called it). 🍕 We ordered it with Chicken, Mushrooms and Tomatoes - and it came out really good! The base which was largely sour cream and onion were very well balanced with our additional toppings, which came out really nicely, luckily. 🍷 asked for white wine but was unfortunately given a red, and definitely felt like we were shortchanged based on the quantity we were given compared against other diners who has already taken sips off their glasses.. 🫖 the tea that I chose was a symphonie of fruits, which was way too sweet for the smell, which then translated into the taste and was quite a horrific drink… Unfortunately it wasn’t the best of experience for us, having came after 2pm where the kitchen is partially closed and only serves 2 dishes and drinks..

This marvel of food for thought is right in the learning town next to the lake lucern. The restraunt has a basic philosophy of slow food , which means their menu is tailor made as per seasonal local production of materials.from vegetables to meat from herbs like saffron all is locally grown and used.hence you will never find a consistent menu. We ordered pizza with cheese onion and garlic a divine crunch the cheese would melt in your mouth and you will be left with garlic hangover. Next we ordered vegetable kind a pie which was served with sauce, made in a puff pastry. Amazing taste a crunch and a soft bite at the end. We also ordered fresh local fish with mashed potatoes. The fish was tender juice and amazing in taste. Last was the desert which was locally made ice-cream from the farm and then poppyseed desert with plums. You have to notice how the plums really enhance the taste. We were introduced to a local drink its was amazing in essence . The staff is efficient and makes the best effort.we met the owner of the restraunt who was so curtious to explain the ideology and thought process that goes in making of the dishes. Please visit and enjoy the food and the view.

We were here for lunch. Delicious and fresh food. Service was great. We almost skipped on this place because Google showed that it opens only at 5pm. Do try the violet fizz.

Google
Service was great and so was the food. We only had appetizers and drinks since they didn’t have an English menu and the menu they did have was written on a board making it more difficult to use a translation app.

Yelp
The service was appalling. We had to endure the passive aggressive behaviour of the red head waitress, who continuously glared down at us because we were served a dish that contained pork, (which we had told them in advance to avoid). She told us to just put it to the side, and when we insisted that it needed to be changed, the owner (I believe) kindly intervened. We had to ask for the check 4 times, but again, she deliberately delayed and gave us dirty looks. Again, another waitress had to intervene. Lucerne is a beautiful city with plenty of other restaurants to visit than this one.

Yelp
Nope, with all the other cafes, the service is literally not there for this location. It's right along the canal and has inviting chairs. There's even blankets to ward of the chill. Our waitress simply didn't want to wait on us. It was the mid afternoon and no where near closing time. We wanted a light bite and she said there was no such thing. We never saw a menu. We ordered our respective beer (for him) and cappuccino (for me). We had to search someone down to pay our bill. They don't care about you or your money.

Yelp
We ordered a french pizza and found bits of paper in it from price tags. We told our waitress and she grabbed the item from us and didn't bother to apologize or replace it. Someone else brought us our check and we still had to pay for it. Avoid this place, they take advantage of tourists/

Yelp
My wife and I had dinner at this cozy restaurant down by the river. I had a personal size pizza that could have easily fed the both of us. Great Swiss style pizza with a fantastic thin crust. My wife had a pasta that was superb. If it hadn't been raining, we would have certainly eaten outside right next to the River Ruess.

Yelp
Absolutely the best place in Lucerne. Friendly and accommodating staff. Wonderful Swiss and Austrian cuisine. The owner walked over to a neighboring restaurant to borrow their child seat for us. Try the braised deer, smoked mushroom soup and local fish from the lake. To die for!

Yelp
The fella and I stopped here on a whim for some wine and a snack while walking around Luzern. They have plenty of tables arranged by the river in addition to indoor seating. We sat right next to the river where the water rushes after it flows through the needle dam, providing some nice background sound and a great view. I had a bowl of the melon gazpacho and a glass of sauvignon blanc, and the husband had a salad with fried mushrooms and a glass of grenache. Our food was good and the wine even better, so we had to have a second glass. The waiters were friendly and efficient, with one of them giving us some hints about Swiss German language. Prices are on par with the rest of the town with items ranging from starters to pizza to seafood and other entrees. We kind of expected a crappy tourist trap and while there were plenty of toursist (including us), we were pleasantly surprised.

Yelp
We had dinner here one evening. The staff and the food were excellent! We were not planning to eat here but when we stopped to ask about the specials on the chalkboard (all in German) the waiter was so patient and the dishes sounded so good we decided to give it a try. Glad we did. I had the catch of the day which was very fresh and light with a hint of rosemary, my wife had the venison tenderloin and loved it. Dessert was a white chocolate mousse with Bailey's Irish cream as a topping. It was a little expensive but well with the money. The food was inventive and the staff was very friendly and attentive.

Yelp
This was our favorite meal in a two week trip to France and Switzerland. It's a beautiful spot right on the river, and we decided to ignore our host's warning to avoid the restaurants in the area as overpriced and touristy. Indeed this was a pricey meal, but worth every cent. My husband had a beautiful piece of salmon and I savored every bite of my veal chop with tender vegetables. Not something I'd normally order but the preparation (fresh basil sauce which turned out to be lush and creamy and swoon-worthy) convinced me to splurge on the 53CHF (about $53 US) plate. Our daughters had delicious bowls of fresh creamy tomato soup and our son polished off every bite of his pasta with red sauce and declared it his favorite meal of the trip.

Yelp
Found Nix on a whim. Excellent food and informal but efficient service. Had the veal - tops, and a very good Ribeye. Interesting mild tomato based jus with the steak but that enabled the very subtle mushroom pasta to come through. Taste buds well tickled! Local wine option was good but might have preferred French burgundy with the steak. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Found this place on a Sunday evening when many other restaurants were closed. Location is right next to the river. We ordered some of the potato plates and the vegetarian surprise (e.g. composed of the several side dishes avail that day) and really enjoyed the food and presentation. Like almost all restaurants in Switzerland, this was a pretty pricey meal. Edit - just read another review on this site and noticed we had the same experience - didn't get seated outside "as it was going to rain" and others also got flatbreads that weren't on our menu - perhaps some seating and cheaper food is reserved for the locals... lowered my rating to 3 stars.

Yelp
We're going regularly to Nix's in der Laterne. The menu is changing daily and written on large chalkboards. The food is excellent - continental-Swiss with some Austrian influence; nice Wine list as well as by the glass. Service is impeccable. We go often with guests to show off the great location at the river Reuss.
