Austin’s New Restaurant & Bar Openings - Austin - The Infatuation

"As you can probably guess from the name, corn is the root of this South Austin trailer, with nixtamalized masa at the heart of the dishes. The menu is small, featuring things like heirloom corn quesadillas, white masa salbutes with cochinita pibil, and crispy blue corn huaraches. While you’re there, grab some wine from The Austin Winery next door." - nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs

The 20 Best Breakfast Tacos In Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"Nixtamal is a tiny food truck doing big things with masa down at The Yard in South Austin, right outside of The Austin Winery. Tacos, quesadillas, salbutes, huaraches—if it starts with a nixtamalized corn base, they probably make it. Breakfast tacos aren’t the specialty here, but they make a great one regardless. We like the version with eggs, chorizo, and mushroom. It arrives on a blue corn tortilla that adds a bit of earthiness to each bite. Afterwards, head to Spokesman Coffee next door to complete your morning ritual. What to get: Egg, chorizo, and mushroom." - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion

Nixtamal - Review - South Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"Nixtamal is a tiny food truck doing big things with masa down at The Yard in South Austin, right outside of The Austin Winery. Tacos, quesadillas, salbutes, huaraches—if it starts with a nixtamalized corn base, they probably make it. The menu is ambitious given the trailer setup, but everything we’ve tried has been packed full of flavor, with a handmade feel. Swing by for a dense breakfast taco on your way to work, or show up on a weekend afternoon when you can pair your wild mushroom huarache with a chilled pét-nat from the winery next door. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary Food Rundown Breakfast Tacos Breakfast tacos aren’t the specialty at Nixtamal, but they make a great one regardless. We like the version with eggs, chorizo, and mushroom. It arrives on a blue corn tortilla that adds a bit of earthiness to each bite. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary Salbutes The base is thick and slightly crispy, the cochinita is tender and juicy, and a small pile of slaw and pickled red onions adds just the right amount of punch. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary Empanadas These are lightly packed but very tasty. Each order comes with your choice of three (from a list of seven). Make sure one of those three includes the chipotle chicken. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary" - Nicolai McCrary

Google
Fantastic food and highly recommend for anyone with celiac or gluten sensitivity. Everything on the menu is excellent but would recommend the flautas for lunch/dinner and the breakfast Gordita Grab some food and bring it into Austin winery 🤌

We had almost everything on the menu and had a hard time picking a favorite! The elote empanada was surprisingly amazing with a super crunchy exterior and very balanced corn & cheese filling. Employees were very friendly, food was ready quickly and they had a great lunch special- 2 items & drink for $15. Great portion sizes! The horchata was perfectly spiced, smooth and not too sweet. There are covered tables that look out over a green space with disc golf course.

I want to rave about how amazing the food and the staff is at Nixtamal. The flautas have a perfect crisp to them throughout every bite. I have had everything on their menu, and it is all delectable and authentic. They also have a different agua fresca each day that is so refreshing. I highly recommend checking this wonderful truck out. It’s located right outside the Austin Winery at The Uard in South Austin. You will become a regular.

This place has the best quesadillas I’ve had in Austin. It tastes super authentic and it’s packed with flavor!

Google
Ordered empanadas with expectations of stellar food based on uncontested 5 star reviews and price point. 2 orders of 3x each containing different flavors were boxed incorrectly, one was only half filled and initially gave the impression it had none, the 2nd was burnt and left open, filling was dry and could not distinguish it's flavor over burnt masa. 3rd was the same filling, just ground beef and olives. Missed the pickled onions that were not included, there were some marinated/brined(?) radish included which helped with the texture. Salsa was excellent, and was definitely needed for the otherwise lack of flavor.

Google
It’s perfect roadside location between some wineries and breweries. Service was friendly and the food came out fast and fresh. We had the empanada trio and I cannot express how good they were in words. Handmade to order, quality masa and lots of flavor! We had the ground beef, chipotle chicken and green chile chicken and potato empanadas and all three were amazing! I highly recommend stopping here and this affordable, amazing option for fresh made, high quality food from a ‘food truck’.

Google
Seriously good food. We ordered the achiote chicken flautas and cochinita pibil salbute. The flautas were crunchy without being oily. Salbute was an incredible mixture of contrasting flavors and textures. Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu!

I’ve grown up eating food from regional parts of Mexico with authentic tortillas and I’d say it’s more than fair to say they are getting it right. If in the area stop by and give them a try. I’ll be back for sure.

Yelp
I've tried a lot of the menu and it's all good. They import their masa from Guadalajara and everything is made from scratch with the kind of passion that comes when honoring ancestors.
