Hotel Niza | Best places to stay in San Sebastian

"This hotel, set right beside northern Spain’s most fashionable beach, is a reasonably-priced, family-run treasure in San Sebastian, near enough to the sea to hear the waves. The key here is simple grandmotherly charm, down to the old-fashioned lift: the rooms are bright, and nearly half enjoy a spectacular view over La Concha bay, on a lively, bustling seafront promenade lined with swanky shops and bars. The bar-restaurant has a convivial waterfront terrace, where delicious breakfasts are served each morning. There’s a small garage that fills up fast; if you’re driving, it’s essential to book a spot and finding parking anywhere nearby is tough. Niza is an easy walk to the city’s main sights and renowned pintxo bars, and guests can borrow bikes if they want to go any further. " - Dana Facaros

The location is probably the best. You are in the middle of all attractions. For instance, hotel Londres is also nearby but in a much busier location. In front of the hotel there are 3-4 patio gardens where you can sip a drink and have bite to eat. The hotel has a nice restaurant and bar. The elevator is super old but functional and rather spacious given the age. The room was very nice and quiet, we had water views. The bathroom is modern, big and clean. One bottle of water was supplied every day. The door lock is the old way, key, and you have to drop and pick up the key from the lobby. The lobby was always attended by two people and quick. The parking option is another story. It’s in a subterranean garage, at the -3 level with very narrow ramps to get from one level to another. Do NOT rent a large SUV or car, it’ll be a real challenge to park it. Also, automatic is recommended because you might need to back up on a steep ramp.

Wow! We arrived in our top-floor room to the most amazing balcony view over the lovely half-moon bay. It was mesmerising watching the light on the sea and all the dog-walkers, joggers and swimmers on the beach below. What a location: we walked to both ends of the bay along the lovely promenade: about 15 minutes to the bars and restaurants of the old town.||The room was white and clean and airy, with a large comfortable bed and great shower. Shame no kettle but Café La Concha across the Promenade was great. We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant. Free beach towels are provided at reception and we had a swim in shallow warm and safe sea. Receptionists were all extremely kind and helpful and gave us good information on the buses and local attractions. A memorably great hotel in all respects.||We would highly recommend the funicular ride up Monte Igueldo for stunning views.

Great location right on the beach, we had a balcony room with the perfect view of La Concha Beach. Room was very clean but the beds were AWEFUL. Stiff as a board. My brother and I were coming off day one hiking the Camino del Norte and there was was no comfort sleeping in those beds

Well positioned hotel, with great views of the stunning La Concha Bay. We enjoyed using the two bikes which are available for use by guests at no extra charge, as well as the beach towels. We also enjoyed jogging along the promenade in both directions from the hotel. The Biarritz restaurant offers good food and tables on the promenade. Our room on the fourth floor was spacious, reasonably well equipped and had a small balcony. The buffet breakfast is ok, but nothing special, and we mostly went to a nearby cafe, close to the University, which we preferred. |The reception staff are friendly and helpful. ||The hotel has one guest lift, originally dating from 1911, with manual doors. That has a certain charm as a period piece but may not be ideal for everyone. ||The air conditioning in our room did not permit temperature adjustment - it is effectively either on (at a temperature which felt cooler than the stated 21C) or off.||Overall, we were pleased with our choice of hotel and enjoyed our stay.

Reasonably priced for the location. Right on the beach with parking garage. Rooms are small but equipped. I actually loved the fragrance of the soaps and lotions- very clean and light on the skin. The little cafe/restaurant beneath is perfect for a quick drink or coffee. Would definitely book again.

Location is great if you don't have a car. Common areas are super nice, but the room themselves are small and simple. Breakfast buffet is good but quite expensive. Staff are kind but not really flexible about anything...

Hotel was in a great location however we had issues with the front desk manager. They charged us twice and then proceeded to tell us we weren’t even after showing them the receipt from booking that the room was prepaid. Had to dispute the transaction with my bank. Furthermore they charged us 24 EUR for parking stating we could be parked till 2 at latest as a courtesy. The following day they said they needed us out by noon and didn’t care what was said the previous day.

We had a really nice stay here. The location was just perfect, outside the oldtown but right beside it for easy access. The rooms were very nice and so was the staff. My only issue was that the rooftop bar was closed and this was one of the main reasons we stayed here. If it had been advertised a bit more that it wasnt open would have been nice. I would have really liked to have seen the views from up there.

Yelp
There is some old world charm to this hotel which sits overlooking the water. Unfortunately the day we got here, our first, it was pouring rain, weather that followed me from Madrid. Cool locale and good space unfortunately does not make up for the fact that the bathroom is really old and there is a linger of smoke smell that my friend couldn't really take for more than a night. The parking lot below is hellish. super tight, and sharp cornered. Maneuvering is just a bitch. Luckily this lead us to search another which turned out to be the best of all the stays...

Yelp
Ocean view rooms (no ac) are outstanding with small balcony overlooking the beach boardwalk. Quality linens and comfortable pillows although no in room fridge or safe. The ocean breeze more than makes up for no ac and the ocean view rooms face west for sunset and late morning sleep ins. Clean bright and worth the expense.

Yelp
This hotel is the worst! Rooms are super tiny and the majority of them do not have AC. It is an older hotel that is trying to be more upscale and it is not working for them. But the worst of it all is that the customer service is horrible! You can only get new towels to use once and only at 7pm! The hotel is right on the beach but when coming back from the beach you can't even walk into the hotel to get to your room without a shirt or shoes on. I would never stay here again. The staff is horrible and not accommodating at all! If Yelp would let me I wouldn't even give them 1 star.
