10 Best Brunch Places in Dublin | Condé Nast Traveler

"Whether you settle into a seat by the fireplace, or along the gleaming bar, you’ll feel like you’re in the center of Dublin when you're at No. 27. The historic Shelbourne Hotel in which it's located is often referred to as “Dublin’s living room,” and this bar and lounge—one of several eateries on site—is particularly suited to that moniker, thanks to its prime position at the front of the landmarked building. As such, it’s nearly always buzzing with locals and in-house guests (reservations are recommended), with regulars holding court (or propping up the bar) well into the night. The space itself is elegant—polished woods, chandelier-adorned ceilings, a roaring fired—but not at all stuffy. Come for a tricked out brunch, complete with a full Irish breakfast—both black and white pudding, included—and a juice bar to balance things out." - Sandra Ramani

Went overseas to Dublin, Ireland and went to this Bar & Lounge that is in my hotel, The Shelbourne. I ordered the Bram Stoker(Robber Pie), it was beef cheek with bacon cut in very small pieces along with peppers and other vegetables and was served with real mashed potatoes. The taste of both dishes was absolutely delicious and I really enjoyed the presentation. I ordered a pecan pie with ice cream along with the Americana coffee. The pie was cooked when ordered and it was hot and the ice cream was solid and did not melt right away. The vanilla ice cream had a hint of salt which was complementary to the semi sweet pecan pie. The coffee was so good, I almost was going to order another but I did not need the caffeine. Great little place to go to in the hotel.

My experience at the No. 27 Bar & Lounge was phenomenal. As a first time traveler I felt so welcomed. Jack gave myself and family excellent service and was incredibly helpful and attentive! Will be recommending to friends and family.

Terrible food at a terrible cost. They should pay their staff more for the embarrassment of serving such garbage. The only saving grace is the cocktail I had. Perhaps if I drank six or seven of those, my brain would have been numbed enough to give a better rating. Sorry guys, but I'm very unimpressed. Nice place and location. Nice staff, who botched the payment at the end of the experience. Tiny chips served with a tiny pot of ketchup made for a hilarious experience, so in all, it was worth a laugh. I'm glad it was at someone else's expense, or this review could be worse.

Google
This is such a cute place, but the floor in the main bar is hallow. Every time a heavy walker goes by your entire chair shakes. It’s the weirdest phenomenon and they just need some insulation in the floor below. This is too nice of a place to feel this off putting banging every time someone goes by.

Popped in to enjoy a cocktail on a chilly evening while visiting Dublin. Service was timely, cocktails were tasty, and the bar and hotel were nicely decorated for the holidays. Wished the staff were more kind and welcoming; the lighting in the bar was way too bright for evening time. Sounds ridiculous to say, but lighting can make a big difference in an experience.

We went there for a cup of tea and a slice of cake to share. The place is nice & both teas and cake were really outstanding but the service is terrible. We got in a we seated. Nobody brought us a menu so we had to ask for a menu and they only brought us one so we had to check it once at the time. When we asked for the tea menu they just told us 2-3 options, they didn’t bother bringing a menu. Then we asked for a desert menu, again they brought one…. I honestly expected a better service considering a carrot cake costs 15 euros.

Google
Great experience in No.27 Bar Service and meal just can't complain anything about it. We just relax have our lunch. If you like tea ~ you have to try Earl grey tea, so much flavour The price is worth every Euro. If next time we going back to visit Dublin, No.27 Bar will be in my list.

Google
Ah, No. 27 — where the wine is exquisite, the staff are immaculately polite, and everyone seems to be quietly auditioning for the next season of The Crown. The décor whispered “old money”, the lighting murmured “you don’t belong here”, but the wine said “stay a little longer”. We were greeted with warm smiles and impeccable service, but there was definitely a faint aroma of... exclusivity. Not snobbery exactly — more like a gentle reminder that your jacket should’ve been tailored and your shoes should’ve cost more than your flight. Still, the wine list was truly fantastic. If you’re looking to sip something elegant while pretending you know what “oaky with a hint of leather” means, this is your spot. Would I return? Yes — but next time I’ll wear cufflinks and Google “how to hold a wine glass correctly”.

Yelp
We spent a week in Ireland and The Shelbourne Hotel was our home base. Early in our stay we went to No 27 for drinks and a light dinner of oysters, soup of the day, which was mushroom and prawns. For beverages we got Kettle One martinis. That first visit was awesome! We loved the oysters so much we got a second order. We went back a few times but as the week progressed it got more and more crowded and became impossible to find a seat. We did manage to get one more seating at the bar and had oysters but after that it was get a drink and stand somewhere. We ended up using the residence bar but they didn't serve food so we had limited options at the hotel, which was sort of disappointing. What we had and service was generally good. We had a server at one point that walked past us 12 times when we had completely employ plates and drinks and she didn't stop to check on us at all. When I waited tables I would constantly watch my tables every time I walked past and unfortunately she was not observant so I had to flag her down, which is cringy to me. Anyway, for the most part we had a great experience so would definitely visit again.

Yelp
Old bar and lounge in a wonderful high end hotel. Tables are set for large groups or couples/singles. Some people were on WiFi. Simple foods are available. Drinks and wines of all kinds are available. If you are guests of the hotel add the cost to your room.

Yelp
Very disappointed. Had stayed here before and wanted to stop in for lunch to bring my daughter. I thought we might be in trouble when the people seated next to us said good luck as they left. Ordered oysters and fish and chips got fish and chips never got oysters. Asked about them took another 15 minutes for them to show up asked for vinegar for the fish and chips never got it. Both myself and the new couple that reclaimed the seat next to me were amazed at how none of the staff make eye contact as the walk around the restaurant as they were trying to order and had the same luck as myself and the previous couple. Oysters were ok just overall terrible experience for three groups in a row.

Yelp
Hostess was wonderful to get me a spot at the bar. Karan the bartender was awesome. Had a soup and sandwich and it was delightful. Place was full with rugby fans before the match in the evening. Nice ambiance.

Yelp
This sheek lounge at the Shelbourne hotel in Dublin, Ireland may have you swooning if you are into oysters and an upscale ambiance. My husband tried a few oysters and loved them although food off of the regular menu such as salads, chowder and burger were just average at best. This lounge was listed on Good Food Ireland, but the food did not live up to expectations...I think it is on the site for the star of the show, oysters. Service here was fantastic and attentive, some of the most stellar service in Ireland by far. We tried: Galway Oysters 5 stars, beautiful presentation Seafood chowder 4.5 stars, lots of fresh seafood, wish the cream base was a bit lighter ceasar salad 4.5 stars, enjoyed by my husband beet salad 2 stars overly oily and inedible, waitress kindly took it off of the check burger with fries 1 star...horrible taste after one bite I was done, fries were not good either but husband finished the rest

Yelp
This place is always jammed but often manage to nab a spot. Sometimes not so lucky. Good place to visit for a drink before or after dinner or to while away an afternoon. Service can be a little slow so don't come here for a quick drink.

Yelp
Stopped in for an afternoon drink and snack. Saoirse was our barkeep and she was fantastic! Drinks are measured but good. Great stop for fries and a pint. Nice spot but limited menu. We were guests in the hotel and we enjoyed our stop there.

Yelp
We decided to eat here when we saw they offer fresh oysters! We ordered the Shelbourne seafood platter, which has: Lobster Tail, Mussels, Prawns, Oysters, Smoked Salmon, & Castletownbere Crab--and it was so decadent! We ordered another platter of fresh oysters too! We also had the steak sandwich and the fish and chips. Everything we ordered were very delicious and the servers were very nice and friendly! We would definitely come back here the next time we go to Dublin!

Yelp
My first time @ number 27 and we stopped for a drink and to people watch. Busy enough for a Tuesday afternoon. I got the Argentinian Malbec which was €9.50/€9.00 which is pricey for a glass of wine. Staff were professional, I think I expected more from the Shelbourne.

Yelp
I will start off by prefacing places like this just aren't my scene. Though I was staying at the Shelbourne, I just don't do the whole wealthy, swanky scene (even in Orange County) usually but my mom and I were tired after a day of museum going and navigating through the masses on Grafton St on a Saturday. This place is very cool inside with nice tables and cushy chairs (save for the tables with the high stools) and some great, large windows for views of the surrounding city. At first our waiter was unfriendly and couldn't have been less interested in us (but was very interested in the tables around us of wealthy British and Irish people) but he warmed up after a little while. They have a good wine selection and a delicious French Viognier. I had better seafood chowder in the small towns but their fish and chips and fries were delicious. Fantastic tartar sauce. A good place to stop in especially if you're staying at the hotel and just want some good drinks and something to munch on. Just be prepared for a little bit of a snooty atmosphere and not necessarily the Irish hospitality you might be used to getting at other places in Dublin or Ireland if you're not buying many bottles of Veuve Clicquot.

Yelp
Came here yesterday for an afternoon drink. Very nice. I love the comfy chairs/sofas while I was sipping on a lovely glass of Shiraz. What can I tell you? Great place for drinks. I love the atmosphere. Love the vibe. And there weren't any airs about the bar either. A real treat. I'd love to have a nice meal there one evening. Or afternoon tea, which seems to be quite popular.

Yelp
For my 100th review, somewhere a little bit special. Grab a rich relative or just max out the credit card! Yes it cost a fortune in the Shelboune's second most famous bar but sometimes it has to be done. The no 27 is definitely a special occassion kinda place. Don't look at the prices, you know you probably can't afford it. So order that bottle of champagne. This is the best hotel bar in Dublin by a mile. Rub shoulders with the (now much poorer) property tycoons, TD's the great and the not so good. Although its full of rich people you never get the impression your not welcome, as long as you can pay your more then welcome. Certainly one of the swankiest bars in Dublin, also does a great cocktail menu. Even go just to see the toilets, they're immaculate!

Yelp
Went here a late Saturday night for a solo dinner and drink. Could not have felt more comfortable! Had a plate of fish and chips that came with a cute jar filled with delicious tartar sauce. Enjoyed a glass a wine wine and chatted with the my table neighbors. Could not resist dessert so I had the most indulging chocolate cake all by myself in this fun bar/restaurant/lounge at the Shelbourne Hotel. Tables were tall, which made it feel more causal than the rest of the exquisite hotel. They were big enough so that one company could sit on one edge, and me on the other, without disturbing one another. Enough, but not too many, people around to watch. If I'd go out by myself again in Dublin, this is my choice.

Yelp
I really like this place - granted I was here on St Stephen's Day so the wonderful Christmassy Atmosphere would have helped. The staff are attentive, the seating is comfortable if you're lucky enough to get a seat, the floor space is ample (without being bare) if you don't. The decor is very glamorous & the atmosphere is very relaxed. It's expensive to drink there, but no more so than anywhere else in the city centre!

Yelp
Let's face it, we all would like to be seen in the Shelbourne at some stage on a night out. This bar on a random week day still has that weekend buzz and its lovely. Yes, the drinks are pricier than other bars around but you're not just paying for the drink, you're paying for the 5* experience too. This you're guaranteed. Staff are great, mannerly and friendly. The cocktails- top class... Atmosphere is heightened at the weekends and just as enjoyable on a random Monday night. It's a good place to start your night... But sadly my wallet wouldn't allow me stay there all night !!!

Michelle D.

Yelp
The history of this place alone is amazing-the craftsmanship, beauty and atmosphere is worth sitting down to have a plate of oysters, an appetizer or a beer. We ordered the fish & chips, Oysters Rockefeller, bread pudding & a whiskey. The service and food were impeccable. The prices are steep if you're not use to the finer things in life, but it's worth the experience. You're at the Shelbourne - splurge, eat, drink and enjoy yourself!

Yelp
The No. 27 Bar is wonderful. It has a young, hip vibe, and a lively crowd. It's a gorgeous space, with high ceilings, huge, light-filled windows that front St. Stephen's Green, traditional touches but not too stuffy. It's very popular with fashionable locals, as it was packed every evening we were there (we stayed at the hotel so went to the bar frequently) -- especially the weekend nights. What a fun bar! Good food too -- I had the best ham sandwich of my life (possibly because they use butter as a condiment).

Yelp
Nice bar. It gets pretty loud and with it being open to the public they do get some local drunks spouting off. The horse shoe bar, I think, was much better.

Yelp
Went out for a birthday drink after dinner and could not have been more disappointed. Our group was excited to see the historic and beautiful Shelbourne, but was let down by the poor service. The cocktail waitress did not offer us any cocktail menus, which would not have been a problem if the rest of the service had been better. Unfortunately, she proceeded to bring drinks to the table (cranberry vodka, gin & tonic, beer) and the cranberry vodka was not made with cranberry juice. It was some sort of very sweet strawberry syrup, and when we nicely told her that the drinks were not to our liking she shrugged and then ignored us for the rest of the night. The cranberry vodka was not touched, but she still charged us an exorbitant amount for it ($7 for house vodka + $4 for the "cranberry juice"). We had to go find her in order to pay the check. All in all, it was frustrating to pay for an incorrect drink and even more frustrating to be outright ignored. It was a major letdown especially for how much we paid.
