We held a rehearsal dinner here in June. It was perfect! The food was yummy, the pool table was a hit with the kids, and the couches and chairs were perfect landing spots for the toasts!

No. 9 Lounge, the upstairs space in Evening Star Cafe, was the perfect venue for my birthday party. It was very easy to coordinate the event and Dawn was very quick to respond to all questions leading up to the event. Everyone loved the vibe of the space! It had room to create a dance floor, a pool table, shuffle board, and retro video games! Everyone from ages 3 to 63 had a blast! The service, food, and cocktails were all terrific. I highly recommend this space if you are looking for an event space!

Google
Kinda loud for a get together type party. I don’t want to have to yell at my friends. Food was good (smoked wings and sliders!) and bartenders were friendly, but not the fastest or concerned with the speed. Also, they were out of several draft beers on the menu - oh, and they were actively cleaning the tap lines with acid while also pouring drinks. Not especially appetizing when you see acid splashing next to your mixed drink/beer.

Kat P.

Google
Chill environment, super sweet and attentive bartender, and some of the best buffalo wings we've ever had. Also, the triple layer cake! Nice spot; looking forward to coming back.

Florence N.

Google
When I want to chill after work and get a beer with food, I go here. I had the best brisket ever here. Bartenders are friendly and responsive. Good food good beer. This place is right behind and connected to the evening star.

Frank M.

Google
Nice little hidden bar. Tied to Eveningstar downstairs and serving up a great selection of beer since it's part of the Rustico/Churchkey/Bluejacket family. Never been when it was crowded.

Brittany L.

Google
Had an awesome time -- live music was great, bar service wonderful and drinks delish. Nachos were also killer.

Mary K.

Google
Great place with a good mixed crowd. Excellent drinks at the upstairs bar anyway. Went on a Wed night, live band Evidence Locker performed.

Yelp
Walked in with no expectations. 5/5. Perfect mix of dive bar, non descript entrance, and good food. The draft beer menu is solid, cocktails are fun and high or low end. The food is all really fresh. I had the taco salad, it was great. I ordered the Irish Iced coffee - it's a frappe without the blender, nice treat on a brunch day. Walked out with a new neighborhood spot to frequent.

Yelp
This place is great for date night! The 2 top tables are a bit of a tight squeeze but the food was great. The inside is super cozy and cute.
google avatar

Brigette K.

Yelp
Now that they have Hi/Fi we actually want to eat here now. The quesadilla is the best; the tacos were also quite good. The queso I would not need to get again, nor the taco salad (it's basically all lettuce). However the quesadilla alone will bring me back. Need to try more of the bbq meats! Service is usually pretty good and it's like a dark rump room inside. Pretty fun! Small space.

Yelp
Came for dinner a while back. The setting is very diner- like. Great blues playing. The menu is unexpectedly limited but the drink menu isn't - at least, as far as wine amd beers are concermed. The Good herb cocktail - floral and refreshing The Arcadian cocktail - refreshing yet sultry. Complexity of flavors - from rosemary to a hint of lemon or grapefruit. My tastebuds are in a journey - delicious. Swordfish pastrami - flavorful and light. The dots of sour cream add contrast to the smoky fushiness of the dish. Shrimp hushpuppies - tasty, at first bite and a bit heavy. The bar area is great for people-watching and the bartenders are friendly.

Yelp
Solid Happy hour fare and drinks. Gets crowded but bartenders are usually pretty good with Service

Yelp
"Hipster, here little, Hipster." Just like putting a warm saucer of milk out for a cat, this bar attracts all the fine, young hipsters...But, hey, that is not such a bad thing, because the place is just plain cool. It is cozy and intimate, but also a little edgy which makes for one of the most entertaining bars in all of Del Ray. I love their old fashioned refrigerator kegmeister/tap system. Also, my bartender/manager (Morgan)was cute and bubbly, keeping the afternoon crowd entertained and well stocked in libations. She took a strong sense of pride in her job and the Majestic Lounge which was very nice to see. Now, I have been coming here on and off for years, and it isalso nice to see that this spot is always keeping things fresh with the occasional makeover. I guess that is why it always bright and cheery rather than beaten and dead. I particularly love the wall of old, quirky trophies." Hmmm, didn't know that they gave trophies for butterfly catching." Oh, and let's not forget the bar's assortment of boardgames: Risk, Sorry, Scrabble, and Clue to name just a few. I can see it now, a couple of cocktails and, "It's Col. Mustard with the candlestick in the Library. Yeah, that's right, I went there Sherlock Holmes." Only at The Majestic could one solve a major crime or become embroiled in a game of world domination. I can't help but recall the Seinfeld episode where Kramer and Newman play risk for days: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzLtF_PxbYw All in all, this is just about the best bar in Del Ray, and if you don't check it out, you are really missing out on something special.

Daniel W.

Yelp
Good ambience, service and food. Both had Chicken Diane. Wine was warm and not resolved.

Yelp
If I could leave less than one star I would. We live a few blocks away, and on a whim decided we wanted to go to a bar and support our local businesses. We were three couples and a friend from out of town. We went inside and went upstairs to play pool. Almost instantly, the bar manager came up and told us we couldn't be there. There is one person at the downstairs bar. We go down and I asked the manager why they couldn't serve us upstairs when the bar is empty. She got very defensive and told us she's been in the industry for 20 years. I asked a few more questions, without raising my voice, and looking for clarity. examples: why can't you open upstairs for us- so we can enjoy your space? Why couldn't she serve us for about 20minutes so the downstairs bartender wasn't overwhelmed? Just enough to play 1-2 rounds of pool. Without answering, she told me to see myself out and as I was leaving told me to go fuck myself. I am a local homeowner, I work in the neighborhood, and I'm a respected member of society. I will not be supporting a restaurant that employs people that talk to me or anyone like that. Unfortunately this is not my first time having a bad experience here. Thankfully there are a ton of other places I will happily spend my money.

Yelp
This place is as good as it gets. Always been an NRG fan, but now I can call this neighborhood spot my own. Great beer selection at all times. Friendly bar tenders. Live music! I'm a big fan of the decor and the lighting, sets the right mood as you throw one back after work. Shoot some pool upstairs or play some shuffleboard.
google avatar

Benjamin B.

Yelp
The perfect dive (but not deep dive), in my humble opinion. No frills or pretension but attached to a legit restaurant and access to good food. Killer beer list and great cocktails. Also the occasional live show. I almost bought a house across the street and in retrospect, I'm glad I didn't because I might be dead by now.
google avatar

Ray M.

Yelp
Four stars for the local neighborhood bar vibe. Three stars for the cocktails. Granted I'm a Manhattan snob, but the two attempts were poor and average. Also, my lady had three cocktails and nary a buzz (she knows her booze). ;)
google avatar

Erin R.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar. The downstairs is reminiscent of a dive bar in chicago and the upstairs reminds me more of a DC lounge. Major love for the free pool, shuffleboard and arcade games and I like that the upstairs feels a little more upscale. A great place to go with friends, definitely wouldn't recommend for singles looking to meet other singles - but that statement covers Del Ray entirely :)
google avatar

Meredith V.

Yelp
This is a cool, hidden gem in the heart of Del Ray; a place a lot of industry folks come after their shift. Downstairs its pretty divey, but you will get strong cocktails and a cool, intimate atmosphere with lots of great 90s music. We didn't eat but I noticed gourmet tots on the menu. I think I've said enough. Upstairs is the lounge and another small bar, with a more upbeat vibe and faster music. They have a pool table, shuffle board, and a few couches and tables. I actually prefer smaller, more intimate places like this where you can engage with others and have a little party. Excellent sparkling Pinot Noir. Great cocktails overall for a divey little bar in Del Ray. Definitely coming here late night again.
google avatar

Dani P.

Yelp
When the rest of Del Ray is asleep and Evening Star is closed for the night, those who aren't ready to call it a night are here. It's a laid back environment, I don't drink beer but my husband and friends claim there is a great selection, and with cool decoration (the shelf/step/whatever in the upstairs bathroom is a tad odd though). It's open until 2am, and since everything around it is closed, street parking is really easy to find.

Yelp
Great spot! Love the decor and vibe. Kind of a hipster type place but felt very at home quickly. Amazing cocktails! Their selection and diversity is great. Highly recommend if you don't mind the 10-12.00/drink price! Not even crowded on a Saturday night- which I was super surprised. Don't skip this place.
google avatar

Rosa H.

Yelp
I absolutely love this bar. Its definitely got a hipster vibe with the music but the crowd is an eclectic mix of ages and styles. Reasons I love this bar: 1) It's dressed down and come as you are. After a long day at work, personally, I like to change to jeans and a tee-shirt. 2) Excellent handcrafted cocktails. I'm partial to The Good Herb but for friends who don't prefer beer or wine...they are happily accommodated. 3) They have a solid wine and beer list. 4) The food is excellent. I'm obsessed with the smoked wings but they share a kitchen with Evening Star, so the food is delicious. 5) Even though there is no waitress at the tables in the bar, the service was great. When there were lulls the bartender does come over to check on the tables. Just don't expect that in a rush or when it's busy. For me, that's all it takes to make a good bar, great!
google avatar

Tina A.

Yelp
Have been here twice and love it! There is a "totes adorbs" hipster-ish bartender that is just dripping with personality! He makes the place. Also the loaded tots... yeahhhh... loaded tots. Go get some now! You won't regret it. I see myself becoming a regular at this place. :)

Yelp
This bar had the makings of a great experience. It had great reviews, and we are on vacation in a new city. Granted, it wasn't a night that had a band playing, and the upstairs was rented out for a party...so I did I understand why there wasn't enough seating. We stood for half an hour before we found a seat. That actually wasn't a big deal. We do realize we are in a big city and space is at a premium. The ambiance was great, and I kind of liked the fact we had to enter on the side with the big orange door. The real problem were the drinks. I ordered an arcadian...it was okay. We asked for a Manhattan ...and it was the worst we've ever had. We know our manhattans..and this one was so disappointing. Our first bartender was new, and she didn't even know what a manhattan was and made us something that was undrinkable. After we sent the first one back, we settled into a game of backgammon and enjoyed our time here in DC. Honestly, the drinks were mediocre and not what I expected for such a popular place in a big city. Overall, we had a nice time. However, if I was a local...I think I would choose a different bar unless I was looking for something simple like a beer.

Yelp
Right now it is 11:15pm. I'm chilling out in the lounge area in the back of the restaurant which is open until 2AM with last call at 1:45. They serve a late night menu until midnight with some serious cuisine. This is not your run of the mill bar food. They have duck, meatloaf, and other good fixins' rather than your typical hot wings and cheese sticks. The theme of Evening Star Cafe is comfort food cuisine with a twist. I'm having their meatloaf sandwich with a side salad that comes with it. The meatloaf is flavorful with red onions and mashed potatoes on a kaiser bun. It's an interesting combo. All very good tasting. The crowd here seems to be local and laid back. Maybe a little hipster even. It is a different vibe than the restaurant crowd. Bar seating, high tables and couch seating is all available in the small, eclectic space. Key eye things to check out: mason jar lighting, stars with light bulbs, the bowling trophy wall, classic beer cans on the ceiling, and 70s rock music. It feels like you're in the basement at a house party. They have the game on for those who care to pay attention on their two flat screens behind the bar. I like it. Very much my style and in my element.

Yelp
This might not only be my favorite bar in Alexandria, but my favorite in all of DC. Let's hit the checklist: 1) Cool ambiance, lounge stylings, punctuated by mason jar lights and old school fireplaces with candles? Check. 2) Great(!) craft beer selection, with 15+ rotating taps in 3 fridges, which change specials every day? Double check. 3) Sweet bar food, which includes fat little wings? TRIPLE MEGA GODZILLA CHECK. I'm not sure what else I need to list, at this point. There's great food, great ambiance, and great beer. Majestic is definitely more of a neighborhood lounge/secret hangout than bustling city center bar, but it nails the image that it wants to show off. The upstairs area features more of the same setup, and has pool tables/shuffleboard/tv's, and features live music twice a week. All in all, I can't think of a single way i'd improve this spot. A+. Can't wait for the weather to warm up so I can enjooy the outdoor area too.
google avatar

Heather P.

Yelp
Majestic Lounge is, hands down, my favorite bar to go to in Alexandria. I always feel comfortable here, the crowd is down-to-earth, and the decor is so pleasing. They really put a lot of great effort into making this place a great bar. The downstairs is cozy, but can get busy (especially if there is a private event upstairs), but the upstairs has the greatest furniture, and a very cool shuffleboard-type table (the kind with sand). It's a great place to go with a group of friends. They play great music, there always seems to be at least semi-close street parking. Not to mention this bar is connected to the Evening Star Cafe, and they have excellent food - and even more than that it's in Del Ray, which in my opinion is the best neighborhood in the area (along with Old Town Alexandria).
google avatar

Nora T.

Yelp
Majestic Lounge applies more to the upstairs portion than the downstairs. I enjoyed a beer and some bar fare last night downstairs and wasn't disappointed but also wasn't overly impressed. The staff was friendly, the vibe was trendy, wings and tacos were decent and beer was good. When isn't beer good, though? What makes this spot special is it's location. There are very few bar options in Del Ray so if you're looking for a good drink, this is the place to be.
google avatar

Daniel T.

Yelp
My wife and I just moved to the area and have found this to be our new local tavern. The drink selection and quality are fantastic. We come here for anything from a cheap domestic beer or for a fine glass of wine or nice cocktail. Prices are extremely competitive. I love the comfortable and cozy quality of the bar. The bar menu has great tasty options at a reasonable price. I suppose above all what we love about this place is the service. We specifically go to this bar for Evan who is friendly and professional. His service is top-notch and he always provides a cold drink in a warm atmosphere. One of my top 5 bar spots on the DC area.
google avatar

Carter H.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to go to relax after a long day of work. Get a drink and enjoy the cool vibes
google avatar

Birju R.

Yelp
Hey this is your quintessential neighborhood bar. This is where I head on a weekday night to watch a game, grab a beer and get some wings. The service is friendly as is the crowd. On the food front, I'm a huge fan of the wings. They have a smoky taste thats flavorful and unique. They have a 3 fridges behind the bar with taps attached on the doors. Definitely a quirky environment, one that both locals and out of towners I've brought here have both immensely enjoyed.
google avatar

Melanie K.

Yelp
Went here with my husband for a date night. Food options were fun/tasty/eclectic and service was very attentive. The lower bar filled up quick, so many went to the upstairs lounge.
google avatar

Shahrzad A.

Yelp
Very cute and cozy bar, the bar tenders are so nice, the interior of upstairs is really beautiful. You never know you can find such an amazing spot in Alexandria.
google avatar

Monique R.

Yelp
This is a cool spot attached to Evening Star Cafe. I like the ambiance with the hipster decor. This place is really low key and kind of makes you feel like you're hanging out in someone's basement (was only downstairs, will venture upstairs next time). The mason jar lights are really creative and I love the kegerator inspired beer taps! The beer selections were great, they have craft beer but the also have "the usual suspects" like Miller Lite, Yuengling etc. There is wine and liquor as well. The food is excellent! We had the fired chicken sliders on sweet potato biscuits (!) and the jambalaya, both were top-notch and hit the spot! The service was great, the bartenders were friendly and attentive. They made excellent recommendations and even let us sample some beers before ordering. This is a great spot to go if you're looking for low key spot for the evening. The crowd was pretty diverse for the area too! I will definitely come back!
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
Gotta agree with the rest of the reviews, this is a great bar. I've visited a number of times over the years and it's my favorite place to wind down in the entire DC/Nova area. There are many reasons why. The staff is great and attentive, even when it's crowded. The beer selection is perfect, plenty of great options but you don't feel overwhelmed and it's easy to choose. The atmosphere is comfortable and the decor is a fun to look at and talk about (like the old concert posters). Finally, I don't know what it is about this place, but the patrons are usually the coolest, friendliest people. It's tough to say that about most places, but it's true about the Majestic Lounge. Can't wait to get back there..
google avatar

Michael O.

Yelp
Majestic lounge is a great bar/lounge to just chill. Although there is hipster flare to this locale, the style and mood is welcoming to all. This has replaced my go-to bar for Northern Virginia. You cannot beat $3 Pabst Blue Ribbon or if you want to try local brews, they have an extensive selection. Furthermore, I like their mixed drinks, especially the Oaxacan Hipster moreso than their gin drinks. It is a nice place to hang out with friends since they have ample seating as well as pool tables.
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
First review? Guess it's not a Yelping crowd. It's a bar. Behind Evening Star. Live music most times I've been there. No cover. Local bands, and their friends watching them. Downstairs is kind of publike. Upstairs has a pool table, stuffed chairs, and the music hall. Bartender had some skills. And the beer list was "curated".
google avatar

Suzan S.

Yelp
Went there for a drink. Obnoxious hipster Muppet Babies. Can't and won't mind their space. Elucidating bar chatter like what kinds of bagels they like and whose fingers are longer. Paid and caught last call at the Live Oak like a damn adult.
google avatar

William F.

Yelp
Really love this tiny bar hidden in the back of the Majestic Cafe restaurant in Del Rey. It feels like a secret, let's keep it that way. My favorite thing about this place is that it lends itself well to small talk. Nice dim lighting, cozy feel, appropriate music volume, etc. Whenever I come here I find myself talking I friendly strangers, whoever they may be. I'm not sure why it happens, but it just does and I love it. The lounge seems to attract drinkers of all ages. Music played overhead is always on point (think indie and alt rock). They also have live music in a small venue upstairs, although I've never been. Live music only on Wednesdays and Thursdays I believe. Another great thing is the beer selection. Wide variety of beers on tap and pricier bottled options available. They offer taster sizes, always a plus. If beer isn't your thing, the bartenders can make decent cocktails and have a small menu to choose from as well. If you live in the neighborhood, make this your corner bar. Now!
google avatar

Tara V.

Yelp
Cute little hipster bar, with a decent craft brew selection, delicious appetizers and bar menu. The downstairs has a neighborhood bar kind of feel to it. The upstairs is called the #9 Lounge, and has a really fun vibe. Full bar, live music, couches, pool table, shuffleboard, and awesome decor. A little on the pricey side.
google avatar

Christa F.

Yelp
I love Del Ray more and more every day. My friend was in from out of town to pick up her boyfriend from the airport and had a few hours to kill so we decided to check out this place after dinner. We both loved the ambience and the general vibe of the place. It was pretty quiet for a Monday night, but there were some fellow merry-makers sitting at the bar and at the few at the high-top tables. This definitely has the feel of a "neighborhood" bar or a kind of Cheers. There were obviously a few regulars and the bartender pours a nice cocktail. We didn't get anything fancy, but we were pleased with what we were served. I am very interested in checking out their upstairs bar and I hear they have live music, which is always a bonus for me. You are going to have to poke your head around a corner to find this as the entrance is on the side street, so we passed it initially and had to double-back. Honestly, I can't wait to check this out one weekend soon. It just feels like that kind of place where you can relax and unwind and not feel like you are on display. Low-key and casual vibe with a little bit of something spicy in the mix. I LIKE!!!
google avatar

John Z.

Yelp
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite bars south of DC. Between Del Ray, Crystal City, and Old Town, this is *the* spot. The lounge is tucked at the back of the Evening Star Cafe and you wouldn't know it was there unless you knew to look for it. The beer list here doesn't change drastically, but it is large and extremely well-curated. It's a comfortable spot that is somewhat 'dive' and somewhat 'basement' bar from the 80s. It's a great place to have a burger and a beer or cocktail. Take advantage of the fact that this place is part of the Evening Star family (along with their attached wine shop) - the wine isn't bad here either. Starting Wednesdays, the upstairs bar (a bit swankier) opens up and usually has live music.
google avatar

Jim M.

Yelp
We loved our visit to Majestic Lounge on Saturday evening--good drinks, good service and good social! Thanks!
google avatar

Minh N.

Yelp
A local place that is literally a hole in the wall behind a restaurant. Nice looking and chill atmosphere with good beers on tap. There loaded tater tots were delicious and the bartender was very nice. Very good bar if you are with a group of friends just talking and chilling but not your usual yelling atmosphere.
google avatar

Ron S.

Yelp
Lovely place in hip part of DelRay. Easy going and humble folks. Beer is cold and crowd is loose.
google avatar

Pete R.

Yelp
Beautiful atmosphere. I much prefer the upstairs very intimate. If you bring a date up there and it doesn't work out you can't blame the place. It's dim but not so dim you can't see in front of you. There's a pool table upstairs and it's red goes well with the darkness of the bar. I just moved in around the corner. I'm looking forward to going there on the weekends. My drink of choice is a jack on the rocks so it's very hard to screw that up.
google avatar

Jonathan F.

Yelp
We came here for a wedding reception and out of nowhere at 11am they cut everyone off. To top it off they wouldn't allow us to get any more drinks at the downstairs bar as the event manager followed us down and told the bartenders no more. As if that wasn't bad enough we go back upstairs to close our tab and were charged an auto gratuity of 20% without any prior knowledge. The customer service was terrible and I will never be back to any of their their locations. It's a shame as I have enjoyed their sister restaurants prior to this experience.
google avatar

Sean C.

Yelp
Great little bar with the ambience of someone's basement bar. I especially liked the old refrigerators repurposed as beer taps. They had a great beer selection, though not huge. The bartenders are very friendly and helpful. The bar snacks are also really good. It is a little dark even on a sunny afternoon, but it lends to the ambience. People obviously spend some time here because they also have a selection of board games like Risk and Parcheesi. I will definitely be back for some game time.
google avatar

Jean Ann P.

Yelp
Stumbled in here on our way to the street fair-where a friend was performing. My thirst was immediately quenched with a vodka soda. The atmosphere and kind staff earned this five star rating-oh and great beer selection too.
google avatar

Bryan B.

Yelp
Fantastic bar! Have yet to see a bar with such sweet decor. Hard to describe - like a nice flea market was raided of the coolest stuff: trophy wall, mason jar lights, old beer can border, concert posters. Downstairs can get a bit tight when there are people waiting for Evening Star reservations, but upstairs is more spacious, with a pool table and shuffleboard. Nice couches to sit on and chill. Wednesday night they have music from 8-10pm, with a pretty diverse array. Drinks are typical prices ($7-10/each) and I still don't know what their happy hour is or drink specials, but when I want a drink and want to chill at a bar, I walk on over here. Go and enjoy it!
google avatar

Steve M.

Yelp
Haven't reviewed in a while, but the Majestic deserves it. The first bar in all of Northern Virginia that I really love. Think of a reason you would go to a bar, and this has it.
google avatar

George P.

Yelp
This is a cool place, it's a bit hipster but, its fun. If you get a chance come down during happy hour.

T T.

Yelp
Love, love, love this place. Very comfortable and unique atmosphere. The dimly lit bar lit by hanging Mason jars and retro fridge that acts as keg-a-rator will make you feel at home. Bartenders are very friendly and bar menu is the best bar food menu in the area.
google avatar

Steve G.

Yelp
A great neighborhood hang, somewhat diminished recently when the brisket sandwich was removed from the bar menu. That and one of their beers from an excellent selection was my go to here. I really hope that sandwich makes a return because I could look around the bar and see another table that had ordered it too. Bring it back, please.
google avatar

Cara C.

Yelp
This is our favorite bar in Del Ray, and our friends are always up to joining us here for drinks. Great craft beer list, love the retro refrigerator drafts, and creative bar food menu.
