Where to Eat and Drink in Portland’s Hawthorne District

"This neon-lit neighborhood spot is ideal for lunch and a Vietnamese iced coffee mid-thrifting spree. The move is to start with fresh shrimp spring rolls or papaya salad, before digging into a beef brisket banh mi or bowl of pho with customizable broths. Visitors can choose from broths in flavors like classic beef, tom yum, and curry, as well as noodles like rice, vermicelli, and udon." - Thom Hilton, Michelle DeVona

We had lunch here the other day and it was terrific. I had the Korean fire noodles hot and they packed a good amount of heat really good. We also had a build a plate which is a nice way to make exactly what you want. The staff was great. We sat outside. Really enjoyed it. Recommend this spot to anyone.

Google
Take out, but next time I think we will stay & enjoy the ambiance. Made a bowl (had yummy veggie broth!!) and had fresh rolls which were well made and delicious! Everything was fresh. Great service—kind.

Google
The food is really yummy and so is the Thai tea. The pho was really good and the broth was flavorful! The atmosphere is cozy and cute. You order at the front, pay then sit down and they’ll bring ur food. Not much personal service though, besides that I recommend trying this place out!

Google
my grandkids love pho and they did great here. kid sized portions for reasonable price

Update: we were finally able to dine in at this restaurant. It was nice and quiet. They do seem to have a healthy amount of to-go orders going out the door. It’s our go to place for the holidays. You can make a vegan pho bowl with tofu and veggies. It hits the spot every time! The spring rolls with avocado were also tasty:)

Very good pho, some of the best I’ve had! The broth was so flavorful, it was my favorite part of the dish. The chicken was alright, a little tough & I prefer it to be moist & tender. The Vietnamese pho was delicious, the steak, brisket, & meatballs were cooked perfectly. Vietnamese iced coffee is also a must try. Service was great, we didn’t wait long for our meal. The staff was super friendly. I love the vibe of this restaurant, it’s got a cool atmosphere & tons of greenery all around. The outdoor dining area is great as well. It’s street seating but it’s not graffitied up like some other places around Portland. Overall glad we checked this place out. You won’t be disappointed!!

Google
Absolutely love No Name Pho, this is my second time visiting and I have been extremely pleased both times. I’m always on the search for flavorful veggie Pho and No Name has been delicious, with a good amount of veggies and fried tofu. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The restaurant itself is very cute and has a lovely welcoming vibe.

Google
This is a fast-food style restaurant where you choose your food and pay before you are seated, but the decor has a nice Vietnamese feel to it. We had the Vietnamese pho and grilled pork banh mi. The baguette of the Banh Mi was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and the pork was delicious and flavorful. The Pho was also very tasty with a hint of sweetness in the soup.🤤

Yelp
No complaints for No Name! After a rainy day of thrifting along Hawthorne, this was the perfect place to wind down and enjoy some hot pho. I had the Build-a-Bowl with beef balls and brisket, along with an ice cold Sapporo. The service was efficient and the bowl came out quickly, which my empty stomach was grateful for! I recommend this place to anyone looking for some quality Vietnamese food on the SE side of the river.

Yelp
The bread is good. Otherwise the Banh Mi was okay. Hoisin as the sauce was a weird choice for sauce and the grilled pork is nice but it's in house sausage with some nice flavor but not what I would expect from a banh mi but the lack of heat and acid was surprising. No peppers in the sandwich but in the salad. The veggies didn't bring the vinegar bite I would expect. I got the vegan cream cheese wontons too. They were cooked well and fresh. The strawberry smoothy had too much sugar but that just may be the style. Milk tea was great. So a mixed bag of Banh Mi.

Yelp
Gave me food poisoning... It's the night of and my boyfriend that I went with hasn't gotten sick yet (he has a flight very early in the morning and has been sleeping) so i really hope he doesn't get sick, but this made me violently ill. I feel awful this happened and that i'm writing this but maybe they can fix whatever is wrong and other people can be aware. Good service and atmosphere and the food was good but made me sick :(

Yelp
Tis a place with no name for sure because the food here was not memorable. Will not be back. But they have amazing decor so it's a good place for a coffee and laptop. You order and pay at the counter. I should not have gone here from the reviews as I'm seeing boiled eggs in pho. I should've known better but I was hungry and it's cold outside. Got the pho, drink and some spring rolls. Pho was super bland and lacked any beef flavor, tastes heavily of msg. Meat was overcooked. They also don't have any water that was offered. Spring rolls on the Yelp page are misleading and show deep fried "rice paper" spring rolls. Yet they served egg rolls (with a wheat and gluten wrapper). This is super dangerous for gluten intolerant humans!! Which means they may cross contaminate in their frying oil. I think this is an ok place for those who have never ever had real pho before, as it's super Americanized and lacks any traditional flavors. But if you're used to the good stuff I can't recommend pho here. The build your own noodle bowl is awesome for an option but since the pho flavor was off I can't say if it would be good!

Yelp
Great spot. The pho was excellent; the broth was flavorful and perfectly seasoned; the veggies were fresh and crunchy, the basil was fragrant and bright. The noodles were perfectly cooked; a little bit of bite. The meatballs were tasty, with a bit of an anise flavor. That's a flavor I don't love, but it was restrained and in good balance here. One thing that is a little odd (and perhaps a COVID relic): as soon as you enter the door, you are confronted by a window where you place your order. This gives the appearance that they are carry out only, but that is not the case. There is ample seating and the space is comfortable and welcoming.

Yelp
I love this place! Everything I've had is excellent. Soups find me. The sides are all done right.

Yelp
What's in a name? This spot sounds generic, but the food is distinctly delicious. Must order Spring Rolls ~ THE BEST IN TOWN. Large, tightly wrapped, perfectly chewy wrap, tasty dipping sauce. Eaten dozens of these and perfect each time ***** Sandwich ~ slight crust with chewy dough bread. Tasty pickling. Indoors ~ they took a moment to create a chill vibe. Bathroom decorated & clean ~ this is telltale sign this Vietnamese joint is serious about their business. A couple of covered outdoor tables on a nice day. The service is always smiley and courteous! Only drawback ~ neighborhood street parking is hard to find. Will rename as #1 favorite Pho PDX!

Yelp
Delicious food and great service. I loved the build your own bowl option. I got the curry broth, tofu and veggies with rice noodles. Enough for 3 meals. Thanks no name!
google avatar

Kait R.

Yelp
Really great local option for those who all want something different. Love the build a bowl option, it's nice to get exactly what you wanted. I would give 5 stars but it's more of a do it yourself restaurant. gives the energy of a food cart, where they take your order and hand you your food/utensils, but not much else.

Yelp
Excellent Vietnamese spot! Came across this place on yelp while in the area and decided to stop for lunch. I ordered the grilled pork Bahn mi. It was good. Sandwich came with sweet potato fries and salad. The salad had a delicious light dressing on it. Grilled pork was lean and tasty. My boyfriend ordered the Tom yum pho with chicken - that was delicious!! The broth was so flavorful and light. It was loaded with all sorts of veggies - avocado, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, green beans. The chicken was lean chicken breast pieces. I'd highly recommend the Tom yum pho! This place is cute - clean, lots of plants, cute decor. Excellent quick service too.

Yelp
The service was exceptional and the Pho was even better. My first time here and I will be returning as soon as I can. Highly recommend.

Melissa B.

Yelp
I'm giving two stars because the food was decent. However I've never ever had worse service. No wonder it was empty. The hostess was rude and condescending, no manners at all. Had to ask for glasses, and since she never checked in on us, so I got napkins from the bathroom. And this is after I gave her a 20% tip. The ambiance was lovely but nothing can make up for horrible service. The restaurant states that we were upset by the sign that says "order at the counter". That was not a problem at all. The server was just unkind and rude. She didn't check on us, and we had to ask for things that should be a given- napkins, glasses for our drinks. Don't tip before you pay because I regret leaving her a 20% tip. What a waste of money. Manager never came over. The reply from the restaurant just reinforces what a poorly ran establishment they have.

Yelp
The best chicken broth pho in the area. Generous portion and amazing broth. The salad rolls are a generous size and the peanut sauce is delicious. I love their food. So good, highly recommend this place.

Yelp
The Vietnamese pho was just what I was looking for! The broth, noodles, and meatballs all tasted great. We also got the steak rolls, which were okay but I wouldn't order them again. They were a bit chewy. The inside is really cute and felt great to sit somewhere warm and eat pho on a rainy day. There is street parking but I was able to find a spot and just walk a block.

Scarlet P.

Yelp
I have only been here once but my experience was pleasant. They have you order right when you get inside and then they bring your food to the table. It was pretty quick. I went there when it wasn't too busy. They have a cute vibe inside it's not too big not too small. Their prices are pretty normal. If I'm in the area I would probably go again to try more things :)

Yelp
I just went to this great restaurant. I had the fresh rolls with tofu and vegan pho. Both were delicious, and oh so fresh..... The service was fast and the waitstaff were very friendly. I know I'll be back!
google avatar

Yelp
No names here. Happy to affirm that this spot is a solid 3.5, but I rounded down to 3. I know, I just went against all the science and math classes that say you always round up. Yet, let me tell you why. I think the pho was decent. I had the make your own pho. The noodles, broth, meat were all okay and tasty. However, it wasn't out of this world yummy. I also had the thai tea and same thing. It was good, but not amazing. I will say it did hit the spot on a cool, cloudy day. Furthermore, I think if the broth had a little bit more flavor, then I'm happy to bump this up to 4 stars. I'm happy to check this spot again to be convinced in a different position.

Yelp
i paid 4 dollars for a side of rice. their prices seem a little interesting. the service was great, we got helped quite quickly. the ambiance was very nice and aesthetic. overall, the only thing i dislike is the prices, but i guess you can say that about anything these days.
google avatar

Leighta L.

Yelp
No Name is my favorite Pho in town, It's so flavorful and comforting! The ambiance is really nice and the service is kind and knowledgeable on their offerings (as someone with Celiac Disease, I have to ask a ton of questions so I don't get cross contamination). I'll be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Got delivery and it was perfect! I love that you can build your bowl easily online. I got beef broth with fried tofu and steamed veggies, a coffee smoothie and some salad rolls. The boba was soft and fresh- everything was perfect, I will definitely order from No Name Pho again!
google avatar

Ashley A.

Yelp
So stinking good! I got the Vietnamese pho and it was a nice big portion, amazing broth. This will be one of my main pho spots from now on!

Yelp
Pretty good. Local neighborhood Pho and vermacelli bowl joint. Love the build your own style. the noodles were good and broth was ok. I have not yet tried the Bahn Mi and hope to soon. Ive been 3 times now, got adventerous and ordered the calamari. Id say thats a skip. was obviously frozen and came out like what I call "chewy rubber bands". Pick another appetizer. the spring rolls were yummy!

Btq B.

Yelp
This is a small restaurant and extra outdoor tables in the front patio. For appetizer, we like their fresh spring rolls and crispy rolls, especially the sauces. Chicken salad is also fresh. Beef pho is tasty, the broth is delicious. The restaurant is small, but nice decor and clean-Great service. I sure will be back.

Yelp
One of the better restaurants serving pho in Portland. During a recent visit I opted for the Vietnamese pho (beef broth, rice noodes, thinly sliced beef, brisket, and meatballs topped with onions, scallions, and cilantro) while Dan went for the build-a-bowl (choice of broth, noodles, and two meats or shrimp or tofu). Both bowls were very good. Nice clear flavor in the broth. Ample servings of noodles and meat. Altogether very satisfying. Since the Vietnamese pho was a dollar more expensive, likely due to the inclusion of the meatballs, I'll probably go the build-a-bowl route the next time I stop by. Also looking forward to trying their banh mi. Excellent service, and really nice covered outdoor seating.

Jane S.

Yelp
Tasty no nonsense quick Vietnamese. I like the "build a bowl" with Tom yum soup, veggies, avocado, and rice noodles. Their green beans are also deeeelicous! Good value and yummy eats!
google avatar

Alyssa R.

Yelp
Was craving ramen after thrifting. And this spot popped up. A build your own pho/ramen, and it didn't disappoint. So yummy and such a cute ambience. Tucked away from the busy SE hawthorne street. I definit found my new pho spot

Yelp
Had been curious about this place, as I love noodles, and this place is taking a pan-Asian approach, including dishes from Vietnam, Korea and Thailand. One orders just inside the front door, then chooses between inside and outside tables. We sat outside, with a view of the Hawthorne scene. If the Korean fire noodles I had were truly just the medium heat, I don't know what damage the regular hot would do. (And if I was given the hot when I asked for the medium, a little angering.) But I assume the mistake was mind. The dish was of generous proportions, with plenty of vegetables and beer. The noodles--which were the fiery part--had a great texture. Scott much enjoyed his pho, which had an almost clear broth. Would have been nice to have someone come out and check in on us, they weren't very busy.
google avatar

Keri S.

Yelp
Go here now! It's really good, great portions and packed with flavor. Highly recommend.

Yelp
My new favorite Pho in Portland. Came for lunch and got the Vietnamese pho which comes with steak, meatballs, and brisket for $14. Very generous portion and the broth was extraordinary. Owners were extremely nice and quick and the inside is super cute. Can't recommend this place enough. Excited to try some of the other options.

Yelp
I'm a frequent pho-er whose Portland favorites have long included Butterfly Belly and Pho Oregon. No Name Pho effortlessly lands in my cohort of top pho in town--the broth is well-balanced, the meat is flavorful, and the veggies are fresh. The shaking beef--marinated steak with salad and rice--is similarly delicious, and the interior design of their relatively new location is gorgeous. Thank you Van and her team for brining such a wonderful new spot to the neighborhood!

Yelp
Delicious, flavorful food. So many options. Pleasant and quick service. Very accommodating with my request for no spice. I would definitely come back.

Yelp
Just off Hawthorne on SE 37th, a lovely new Pho restaurant had their grand opening. They created a wonderful covered outdoor space with heaters...just in time for the new shut down . The outdoor space is stored away, but they are open for carry-out and they need our support! I attached a photo of their carry-out menu and some of the items we've ordered. Everything was delicious. I'm not sure if this is a special or just the woman being kind, but she gave me a free drink with my order. I got a Strawberry smoothie for my kiddo, and it was so good I ended up drinking it myself . Please, if you can, give No Name Pho a try! It's definitely the weather for a delicious bowl of Pho =).
google avatar

Anna L.

Yelp
Great delivery! Travels well and they pack it nicely. Also love that I can customize my noodles and everything in my pho!
google avatar

Amy P.

Yelp
Tried no name pho again! I would highly recommend y'all try their amazing build your own plate & bowls! I love variety and this place nails it! Portions are worth the money & deliciousness! I ended up getting the build your own plate. I enjoy this place because of the options they have! If you have issues with your order just let them know & they'll make it right next time! Love the crispy egg rolls too! My plate came with 4 in one order! Just the perfect amount :)

Victoria J.

Yelp
So good, the service was quick and they give you so much food! I saw others say the bahn mi isn't much for what you pay but I disagree, it also comes with salad and sweet potato fries and the bahn mis are shorter but they're wide and jam packed!
google avatar

Danny M.

Yelp
4.5 stars. The food was delicious. The place looked very cozy inside. The only complaint I had was customer service took a while. While we were eating someone came to pick up food and they were waiting for a while for someone to greet them. Definitely need customer service improvement and I can easily see this place being a 5 star place. Price was fair.

Brittany S.

Yelp
Delicious place. The 'build your own pho' is genius! Makes life simple with diet restrictions. I had the veggie broth with steamed tofu, steamed veggies and onion oil, it was delicious and served steaming hot. My brother got the chicken banh mi, he said it was tasty. Service was friendly and food was delivered to the table real fast!
google avatar

Heather T.

Yelp
This is my Go-To Phõ these days. Always friendly. Accurate orders. Delicious broths - especially the curry - and I love the veggies they put in and the options to 'make your own' bowl. The portions are just right too - I often find places skimp on to-go orders and this place doesn't, so I'm always satisfied!
google avatar

Carole W.

Yelp
Everything is delicious. We have tried it all. The green beans are my favorite. We live next door and highly recommend them. Order anything and you will not be disappointed
google avatar

Isabella P.

Yelp
Doesn't get any better than this! The chicken and beef broth are so rich in flavor and everything tastes so fresh. The staff were very sweet as well. 10/10 would recommend and will definitely be coming back! Also - they have lots of outdoor seating :)
google avatar

Matthew S.

Yelp
I am so happy to have found this place! I love their pho and the Tom yum broth! Their chicken has always been cooked to perfection and has not once been dry.
google avatar

Kathryn B.

Yelp
Recently opened No Name Pho exceeded my expectations. You can create your own pho here, they're simple with a unique buttery finish. They offer their own take on Thai & Korean influence through a Vietnamese lens. Their sides are A+ & huge! Indoor & covered outdoor seating right in the hub of Hawthorne retail. Cute little spot.
google avatar

Yelp
If I could rate this place higher than a 5, I would. We ordered inside and ate out on the patio. I handed her my credit card and she wiped it down clean with a clorox wipe before returning it. Now let's talk patio. There are heaters and the patio is covered. It was a comfortable situation. Sometimes when a car drives by too fast the patio shakes but it's not too terrible. Now on to the food. We got the Vietnamese pho. It was plentiful. Couldn't finish my meal. Everything was delicious. Broth was good and the veggies were fresh. Also ordered the thai iced tea and that was absolutely fantastic. Not overly sweet and came with boba balls. Entire meal was fantastic. And the decor is very tastefully done. Give this place a try. No regrets.
google avatar

Shadee H.

Yelp
I tried the mix your own bowl pho! Really good! The broth was tasty and the shrimp was cooked perfectly; in my experience shrimp can sometimes be over-cooked. Loved the fresh topping (red onion, cilantro) in addition to the typical pho toppings. Will definitely order again!
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
I love the build a bowl with curry broth and the sausage spring rolls. Cute art and ambiance inside. There's also a nice outdoor patio.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm a traveling nurse working in Portland temporarily, I was hesitant to try a new pho place since my favorite one is back in Cali (and it's usually hit or miss with pho) but I figured I'd give this place a try since I'm going to be out here for 3 months. To my surprise, it was a hit!!!! Just enough of all the ingredients- even the meat!!! I was so happy I tried this place and I will definitely be back!!! Also, this place is super cute and clean on the inside!!
google avatar

Yelp
I usually like to try new places especially viet places. No name pho came up in a review so it got me interested. My boyfriend is a pho critic so got him on board. Drove a long haul from where we live so this hopefully would be good. Driving thru pdx is dumpy these days and street parking tight. We went in and it was a nicely set up restaurant. Chalkboard drawings of pics of viet themes. Hostess friendly and helpful. We ordered a variety of get a taste of a little of everything. Crispy Rolls, salad Rolls, pineapple rice, beef pho, and pork banh mi were some selections. Pho is based on broth and this one is gloriously tasty says my boyfriend. He loves extra jalapeños and cilantro in it. The salad Rolls were typically standard but our fave to always order with fish sauce instead of peanut sauce. The Sauce had more spiciness than usual. I had a pork Banh mi Sammie. Nice bagette, good fillings, all the goods. It came with a small light salad and some Crispy Rolls. They were smaller than the typical spring rolls but still enjoyable. The pineapple rice was bland. It needs something to spice it up. Overall, a great experience. A definite treat when the cravings call for viet food.

Yelp
Wasn't planning on having pho for dinner, but they had such pretty flowers and it smelled wonderful so we tried it out ! Wonderful service, super fresh and flavorful food. It's not expensive but not cheap, and I found it to be priced accurately considering the quality. the outside is adorable and the presentation of the food made it all the better. Definitely try! great vegan options and sooooo delicious; will be coming back !

John J.

Yelp
Great little place, nice ambiance and very clean. Order and pay as you enter, very easy and an adjustment for Covid, I imagine. Quick service, food was very fresh and tasty. Spring rolls w shrimp came quickly, paired w excellent peanut sauce. So good! We also ordered "build your bowl" for the Pho, again great tasting and fresh and very good temperature, nice and hot. I had the orange soda, was tasty. FYI, no booze at this time, you can BYOB, sounds like their license is a forthcoming. We came in close to closing but the owners got us served w a great attitude. I recommend highly.
