The Best Restaurants in Newark, New Jersey | Eater NY

"The name of this Portuguese restaurant is an homage to Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations and his reputation for exploring the wonders of local foods from around the world. The cafe has an extensive menu, including lesser-known traditional dishes and a revolving number of specials. Always at the top of the meat options: suckling pig." - Hank Zona

Cool spot. My family and I tried this place out last week. We loved the decor and the cleanliness of the place. I ordered the shrimp and garlic as a meal. They added a side of rice. It was very tasty. It wasn’t salty and super seasoned like most places. The portion was a nice size for 18$. My husband ordered picanha - the meat was fresh and cooked well. It was missing a little salt for our taste but that’s an easy fix. The deserts were amazing (variety) and the coffee was too. It’s family friendly. They have parking out front for a few cars. Street parking maybe a problem on weekends but it’s worth the try.

Great quality, freshly made, and flavorful food. Potato soup brings me back to my childhood.

The food is authentic Portuguese, the best Arroz de Cabidela which is rice with rooster. Service provides a pleasant and satisfying dinning experience Decor, soft music and local artists featured creating a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Can't wait to come back!

This is beautiful. It is very cozy and the decoration is adorable. Scrambled eggs are serve in beautiful plates. The cheese bread, empanadas and coxinhas are delicious. The empanada is very cheesy, the coxinha very fresh, with flavor, not too much oil or carbs. This place is very recommended.

I came here for brunch with my family, and it was terrible. Usually, I come early in the morning to grab my coffee and some cheese bread, but this time we decided to sit down for a family brunch. Initially, it was nice, but it quickly became uncomfortable. There was a group behind us that seemed to be regulars. The female employees were sitting on the men's laps and putting the men's faces in their upper private areas. I had my younger siblings with me, and it was very inappropriate. Then, the women got on top of their table and started dancing as if it were a go-go bar. It was highly inappropriate, and the owner was present, which shows the lengths they are willing to go for a dollar.

The broccoli rabe soup was amazing. The fried calamari tentacles were super crispy and delicious. And the stewed beef cubes were awesome. Topped off with a sangria. I highly recommend and I will be back.

Yelp
Delicious food, pastries and coffee. Awesome bifana sandwich and perfect fries, sandwich could use a touch more sauce though, but still so very good. Very nicely decorated, cozy contemporary atmosphere with some tvs, also. Very friendly staff and quick service. Highly recommend.

Yelp
What an awesome find. After a friend had told me to try the place out, we stopped by after a day at the shooting range. The place is super cool... you'll forget your in Newark. Food was excellent, I had the codfish in cream sauce which some places are very stingy on the cod fish. Not here... I was stuffed after half of the serving. My friend had the grilled squid and luckily let me try it out. Absolutely delicious. We will definitely be going back with our better halves. The restaurant is so clean my Cuban mother would approve. Very friendly staff and a few parking spots right in front. Weather was cold and raining so we sat inside, but they have a nice outside area for dining once the weather improves.

Yelp
Farley new establishment that is growing and a cool spot to grab something to eat with a Portuguese influence. This cafe offers a wide range of food. Between prepped meals, hot stove cooked options, breakfast and lunch. It has an indoor and outdoor area seating and plenty of it. Some parking spots are included here since it is located inside a residential street, but it can be very difficult to find a spot at busy times.

Yelp
Tastes like home! The most comforting, flavorful and traditional Portuguese dishes I truly + thoroughly enjoy eating on a regular basis. I give No Pão 100 Reservas a visit almost every time I am back in NJ and it has yet to fail me in any way, shape, or form. It's honestly difficult tailoring your order here, because although the menu is quite short - almost each and every item is bound to leave you a happy customer when you walk out that door. The menu is updated on a daily basis and is often listed on their Facebook page, so keep an eye out for that if you'd like to know what your options are prior to arriving to a reservation/walk-in. A few must haves when you visit: - Rissois de Leitao (Fried Pork Empanada/Turnover) - Leitao (Suckling Pig) - Dobrada (Tripe Stew) - Bacalhao com Natas (Bacalhau in Heavy Cream) - No Pão Soups of the Day are also super delicious! All in all, you must give it a try if you are in the Ironbound. You won't regret it!

Yelp
I love this location due to the outdoor covered area. It's well decorated and close by. Their tosta mista em pão de forma is my favorite. They also have a huge lunch menu of authentic Portuguese meals.

Yelp
Just went for a simple steak sandwich. Bread was soft but steak was salty. Fries were cold. They were nice enough to bring us a new batch of fries which were piping hot and crispy! Price was decent for the food plus drinks plus coffee. Service was not great. Only had 3 tables with diners and service was still slow. 3 wait staff for 3 tables service should have been quicker and more attentive. As an FYI, keep in mind, you will be charged 18% gratuity regardless of the size of the table. I don't mind paying 18% gratuity for 18% service. Ambience was open, simple and clean.
