I honestly don't know where to begin with our 10 minute experience at No. 79. I have been for dinner. Great food and great drinks. Hubby told me to not even share my experience but I want to save people from wasting their hard earned money. We were going to order three things, but we couldn't decide on the third item and since it's tapas style I was fine. Thank god we never got to order the third item. We ordered a ginger ale and a spiked ice coffee. The ginger ale was flat and had a taste I couldn't place.
We ordered the French toast and the smash burger. We didn't realize the smash burger came on a waffle. We were fine with that. It came out within five minutes of ordering! First red flag!
Hubby tries to pick it up and it falls apart. He starts cutting and taking his first bite and says it's inedible. So now I'm intrigued! I've eaten smash burgers!! This patty was not hand formed and cooked like it should be to be considered a smash burger! This was thinner than an air hockey puck, lukewarm (which is a generous term), the burger had that frozen chewiness and that smell of cafeteria style burgers! I wasn't expecting Michelin star, but edible! McDonald's burger is better! Five guys is Michelin star worthy. This was WORSE than a concession stand or the burgers under the light in school cafeterias! The waffle was so thin and CRUNCHY and not warm!! The waffles that come out of the machine at budget hotels free breakfast gets five stars.
I spit my bite out!!
Now onto the French toast. Can't really ruin that, right? Well, this place figured it out!! This was not even lukewarm. I am not expecting steam to come off it, but slightly better than cold is not acceptable. I use lemon in some breakfast items, as it brightens it up! This glaze had a very weird lemon taste.
Honestly, I don't get those that give high reviews on places that suck. Are your expectations that low?
We didn't say anything to the waitress, it didn't look like management was there. When we got there, we hung out in car since we got there right at opening. Another couple came and then a four top!! The rest was empty.
The empty lot should have been a forewarning, but I thought it was due to the storm.
The only great outcome was getting to go to Cacia's and Bagilani's in Hammonton for some football munching!
