Perfect summer treats.
Stumbled onto this little counter-serve spot while wandering the neighborhood. A coffee and ice cream bar with just a few outdoor tables, and it was clearly popular among the locals. They seemed to specialize in ice cream floats (flotteurs), soft serve dropped into cold brew, juice, or tea. Some people called it affogato, but since they don’t use hot espresso nor gelato, this was closer to an ice cream float.
First of all, the soft serve itself was impeccable. Feather-light, silky, and gone the second it hit the tongue. It melted fast, but so did I. Five minutes later the cup was empty.
We tried two versions: cold brew and cassis. In the former, the coffee’s bitterness folded neatly into the soft serve’s gentle sweetness, so it was more like a creamy latte. The cassis was my favorite though. The cassis concentrate they used was bold and slightly syrupy, which turned the soft serve into a sugar-charged sorbet. Definitely the best ice cream float I ever had, and would absolutely come back whenever I’m back in the city.
