NYC Restaurant Closings, February 2023 - Eater NY

"Noha, a restaurant that blended the cuisines of New Orleans and Haiti, has closed. The restaurant opened in 2020, originally focusing on Haitian food under the name Zanmi; the name and focus recently changed. Chef Wesley Simon is now focusing on his businesses in Brooklyn: Market Bar, a brewery, and Djon Djon, another Haitian restaurant." - Luke Fortney

Located at Spring st, it's hardly 15-20 walk from Christopher st path & MTA station, and close enough to Canal st MTA station. I was attending the Yelp elite event and it's my first one! Initially I walked past the restaurant without realizing the restaurant, hope they put up a sign or something to make people aware about their presence. As I entered, the vibe seemed cool enough and the ambiance gives you a typical Haiti feel. The staff is pretty friendly over here and when asked about the idea behind the restaurant, the bartender did explain to me about the cultural closeness of Haiti with New Orleans and hence the fusion food they serve. Also, currently they are experimenting with the menu and will soon finalize their menu Coming to food, I first grabbed a rum punch and it was awesome with a perfect blend of rum and juices. For appetizers, I chose corn bread which came with a hot honey sauce. The corn bread was good while the sauce had a bit of a kick! This was followed by fried chicken with fries on the side as an entree. Not sure why but the fried chicken turned cold soon after it was served, wonder if it was heated in a microwave? I hope they do better. The fries though were drained off the oil was lacking the required crisp which makes it fun to have! Overall, a decent experience with Creole cuisine and I can look forward to visiting this place again and try out more!

I had to wait for a while before I was seated even though the staff saw me waiting at the door. The drinks were not good. We sent the drinks back to be remade. The food wasn't great. The service was not up to par at all. They were short staffed on a Friday evening. It was my 1st time trying Haitian food in a restaurant setting. We have had 🇭🇹 homemade food, and it was 100% better. We (party of 6) hope they improve on the service, drinks, and food.

I love everything about this place! The food and drinks are delicious, and the service is fast and friendly. It's kind of small, and the layout is awkward, but that does not deter from the food at all. Certain items never disappoint: shrimp ceviche, crab cakes, chiktay & fried green plantains, djon djon boxes, and of course the black rice. I can eat here every week and be completely satisfied. It is definitely a great dining experience every time I visit.

What a wonderful surprise find! The food is unbelievable and the ambiance is quaint but full of life and culture! My gf and I have been wanting to try this place out and now it will definitely become a regular spot for us. The drinks are so refreshing and it’s nice to taste other unique drinks instead of the same ole ones. Thank you to the owners for bringing this wonderful cultured restaurant to the neighborhood 🙏 Oh and ask for Romeo! The best and most attentive server/bartender

Eric was fantastic! His brunch recommendations were on point, the food was delicious (coming from a Haitian born millennial), and the vibe was really cute! Definitely planning a second visit for the dinner menu!

This place is amazing. I was looking for a place in the area from the Color Factory and stumbled upon this Haitian and New Orleans fusion restaurant. The drinks are on point and the Macaroni Au Gratin is out of this world. I had also ordered the southern fried chicken and it was very crispy. The cornbread was sweet but soft. Wonderful service, nice ambience, great music. They have Happy Hour from 11am-7pm Mon-Fri and Brunch from 11am-4pm on weekends. Definitely coming here again.

I stopped in mid afternoon because I was in the neighbourhood and looking for something to eat. The staff seated me immediately and were very friendly and offered helpful suggestions. I had the pork sliders and a side order of mac n cheese. The sauce was quite spicey but at Eric's suggestion I got it on the side and I was able to control the spice level. It had some heat and it lingered for a short time, but not unpleasantly. The mac n cheese was excellent, and the cocktails are delicious.

We really enjoyed our meal at Zanmi. This location offers a full bar with cocktails. The food and service were both great. We started with appetizers, griot sliders, and then each of us enjoyed a very filling entree. The meal and drinks left very little to be desired. The staff was friendly and very attentive to our needs!
