Noi Due's prices are stratospheric. Insane. $28 for a plate of salad with nothing special on it or in it?
My party was large - and tried to make a reservation for all 11 of us. They said they couldn't do it, so one person made one reservation for their outside shed, and another person tried to get a reservation for the 2-part outside shed as well but was told they could be seated only inside. Which was really odd, because one of the two rooms of the outdoor shed was totally empty through most of our dinner.
I ordered the Caprese salad and the arancini.
I truly don't expect fine food from a kosher restaurant, but the 'fresh' mozzarella was rubbery, not milky or tender. The tomatoes were pale, as if I had ordered in December rather than late May. Menu said 'house made mozzarella" and sea salt, but honestly it tasted like it came from a pre-packaged brick of cheese and there was no hint of sea salt. The balsamic vinegar drizzled on top was so minimal that I needed to ask for more, just to mask the mealy taste of the pale tomatoes. There was also a large sprig of basil on top. The restaurant should remove the leaves from the stem before serving, so it can more conveniently be eaten with the cheese and tomato.
The arancini were better. Three small balls for $21, on a small puddle of marinara. Inside was spinach and cheese and they were fried well. They were pretty tasty. But again, served with an insufficient amount of sauce. And it's not like I wanted to drown them. Again when I asked for some more sauce maybe 1 oz was brought in a tiny little metal dish. No gold flakes were inside to justify the tiny amount!
Service was good except for the fact that they kept trying to remove our plates even before some were finished eating. Felt rushed.
I would not return again. The food just doesn't merit the very high pricing. Even for a supervised kosher dairy restaurant. It's too bad. NYC needs more good kosher dairy restaurants.
