Yelp
野村壽司のむら also known as Nomura in English.
This place is owned by Japanese sushi chef who first opened a restaurant as a partnership with a Taiwanese owner. They had some problems and he jumped out to open his own restaurant. The new location is located near Cathay Hospital in Taipei. Very accessible through RenAi Road.
For lunch they have these so called "business lunch specials". It starts at $1200NT, this includes 10 nigiri, appetizer, and dessert. The nest step up is $1500NT, but with only 8 nigiri (higher quality fish w/ uni), appetizer, hot dishes, soup, dessert. Then you can go above and beyond. You tell the sushi chef (owner) that you want to do $2000NT, $2500NT, and you can keep adding. As for dinner, I know price starts at $3000NT, but I've never had dinner there before.
The specials of this place?
The shari (sushi rice) consist of two kind of rice. I believe they use a short grain and a medium grain rice. This mixture provides a specific texture when lightly marinated with vinegar. But, that's not the end of it. The chef said they import water from Fuji Mountain in Japan to cook the rice. Unique right?
As far as fish and usage of ingredients. Most of the fish are imported unless they could not get something because of weather or holiday. They also use greens such as Green Onion from Japan.
Why go here? I personally think if you can spend $2500NT for lunch here, it would definitely beat out on SaSa Sushi (very famous in Taipei). I spent $5500 for lunch at SaSa and came out disappointed, whereas Nomura-san surprised me constantly with his knife skills and preparation of fish + sushi rice.
