The Best Long Beach Restaurants, According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"Owner Cameron Slaugh spent ample time in the kitchens of Osteria La Buca and Eleven Madison Park before opening the Attic in Long Beach and most recently, Nonna Mercato. Part bread bakery, part patisserie, and part coffee shop, Nonna Mercato is an excellent weekend daytime hangout with Roman-style pizzas; meatballs and arancini; salads; homemade pastas (gluten-free pastas can be substituted for a $3 additional charge); panini; and classic brunch dishes like quiche, steak frites, and baked eggs." - Mona Holmes

Came here for Brioche with ricotta, honey, and pistachio. Got two croissants which were Strawberry & cream and Bacon & onion for togo. For Brioche I requested for honey on the side because I prefer to adjust the sweetness by myself and it was perfectly scrumptious. Millions out of ten! Brioche itself was soft, buttery, and tasty so it complimented very well with ricotta and honey plus a bit crunchy from pistachio. Oh one bite and I was blown away. My taste buds were dancing happily. Let’s talk about croissants. Normally, I tend to like savory croissants more than sweet croissants. However, after I tried both of them, strawberry and cream is the winner. I really like the filling. I’m not sure if it’s mascarpone or something else that went really well with strawberry jam. It’s so freaking good! Bacon and onion croissant was not bad at all but as I stated earlier, strawberry & cream is the winner for me.

I had a great experience overall! The service was friendly and attentive, and the food was absolutely delicious. We tried the country bread, carbonara pasta, and Nonna breakfast; all were flavorful and well-prepared. The food really stood out. The only downside was the coffee. I had the “Banana Buzz,” which sounded promising but turned out quite watery and underwhelming. Coffee may not be their strong suit, but thankfully the excellent food more than made up for it. Be prepared for a long wait if you're going for brunch as it gets busy! Still, we’ll definitely be back.

Absolutely in love with this cute and Earth toned chic eatery and bakery. They’re limited (in a good way) on seating. They don’t seat you until you have your full party. When you walk inside there’s a bakery that kind of seems hidden. They have bread, muffins, and croissants for sale inside (not listed on dine in menu really). They also sale individual beverages inside too. When I sat down with a friend to dine, the table was set so cute and aesthetically appeasing. They pour you water from a glass bottle (sophisticated 😅). I ordered the quiche which they serve it with bacon or veggie. Come before 10:30am if you want veggie because it sales quickly. It came with a delicious salad. I loved having Marissa as a server!!!! She made the entire experience definitely ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. She was so attentive to our table, explained the menu, made suggestions, and was very conversational throughout my dine in experience. She is there Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday ✨🌸 Their menu also consists of yummy lunch items and some pasta 💛 If you’re hesitant to try, I’d say give it a shot! Worth every penny! Oh yeah ☺️ you walk away with a card at the end with the name of the restaurant which is so thoughtful and rare 🥹💕

This is my favorite bakery in Long Beach. Their pastries are very good quality and sized generously. Their croissants are incredible. I highly recommend the plain croissant, strawberry and cream croissant, nutella croissant, and pain au chocolat. The filling for the strawberry and cream croissant is the best. I believe it is whipped strawberry mascarpone. Their GF muffins have a nice texture. The matcha croissant is not my favorite, as it is somewhat lacking in matcha flavor. I would compare the coating to the matcha Pocky coating. As for their brunch, it is also incredible. The baked eggs are my favorite. The sauce is very good and the eggs were cooked perfectly, with bright orange yolks. It's incredibly fresh and vibrant from the bright tomatoes and fresh herbs, but also balanced out with creamy soft cheese. It's served with a fresh crispy baguette. I would recommend the brioche toast as a shared sweet appetizer. We ordered ours with a side of blueberry jam. One area that they could work on is their coffee quality. The cappuccino was quite bitter and the milk was not steamed very well. I ordered the peanut little, which is made with housemade peanut milk, layered with espresso and some milk foam and topped with cacao nibs. I would not recommend this drink because it has a strange texture. It's somewhat gritty and the cacao nibs mean you have to chew when you drink. I have also tried the banana buzz, which I found to be very watery and it did not have a strong banana flavor. Instead of ordering coffee here, I would recommend walking down the street to get a coffee at Coffee Drunk while waiting for a table for brunch, as the wait is usually over 30 minutes.

So Nonna Mercato gets packed and for good reason. We recently stopped by this Bixby Knolls hot spot for lunch. Parking was a bit difficult but we found street parking. We ordered a sandwich and a pasta plate. Both were delicious. We will definitely be back to try other plates and the bakery pumps out some delicious patties by the looks of it.

Everything we ordered was buono (insert chef’s kiss)✨! Good, healthy, adequate portions meaning not too large but you can definitely share. Brioche french toast blew me away, insanely good!! Carbonara was authentic, creamy and flavorful. Mafaldine was so delicious I almost did not want to share:) Their pasta dishes are perfectly al dente, the way it should be. Croissant dish melts in your mouth, well balanced meat and cheese ratio. Steak and frites- yummy!!

I had an absolutely fantastic experience at this charming French-Italian café bakery! The food was a solid 10 out of 10 everything was bursting with authentic, juicy, and delicious flavors. I had the French omelette, which was perfectly cooked, and the baked eggs were just as amazing. My cappuccino was rich and smooth, exactly what I needed to round out the meal. I was visiting a friend nearby, and we decided to give this place a try I’m so glad we did! It did not disappoint. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and the food speaks for itself. A special shout-out to our waitress, Kaylee, who was incredible she checked in on us regularly, made sure everything was to our liking, and even brought us some extra bread when we needed it. She also introduced us to their homemade hot sauce, which was absolutely delicious such a nice touch! If you’re in the area and love authentic, flavorful food, I highly recommend this spot. It’s a hidden gem that you won’t regret trying!

Yelp
Ordered the sardine pasta. Sadly only saw one small piece of sardine. The waitress explained it's mixed in with the sauce which I couldn't distinguish. I compared it to pork and bean soup which you get one piece of pork. I've had sardine pasta from other restaurants where many pieces of sardines were visible.

Yelp
Nonna Mercato is a true gem of Long Beach! Their bread, pastries, and coffee are top notch! For pastries, I've tried their Pistachio, Matcha & White Chocolate Croissant, and Passion Fruit Kouign Amann. Both were really good, flaky, and filling. On one occasion I visited for breakfast/brunch around 09:30 am on a weekend and there were two parties of two ahead of me. It took me 45 minutes to get seated because there was only one server that morning, and the dine-in area is on the smaller side. The wait didn't bother me because the weather was nice, and the staff member kept me informed on the table situation. One half of the patio is reserved for dining in, and the other half is for to-go orders/coffee and pastries pick up. For brunch, I ordered the baked eggs and they were DELICIOUS with a kick of spice. The dish came with a hearty piece of crusty baguette which gave me so much joy! The alfresco dining, flavors, and quality of the food and coffee made me feel like I was on vacation in the Mediterranean. Just note that it gets BUSY even for takeout. If you want to dine in, get there ahead of when you hope to be seated just in case you experience a wait; the patio is fairly small. Be prepared for items you really want to possibly end up selling out. If you're dining in, once you're seated you can go inside to the bakery counter and order any pastries you want. The counter will ring it up and add it to your table's tab for checkout at the end of your dining experience. You can also order pastries from your table, though you never know if the order ahead of yours may have gotten the last piece of pastry you really wanted (happened to me). I would recommend you order to-go bakery items ahead of time on their website if you really have your tastebuds set on certain goodies.

Yelp
Place is so cute It's a little hidden I've lived here over a decade and didn't know it was there. I went for the Nutella croissant but they didn't have anymore since I went late In the afternoon but for the matcha one and it was delicious

Yelp
Nonna-ther place is quite like Nonna Mercato! I love this cozy little cafe in the heart of Bixby Knolls that I had the chance to visit on a nice overcast Saturday morning. They have the cutest patio setup for breakfast, brunch, and lunch and a small but mighty lineup of food. The menu is in Italian, so Yelp was definitely helpful in determining what was what. But don't be afraid to ask your server for tips because ours was super friendly and helpful! My favorite dishes were definitely the Pane Tostato, specifically the Ricotta, Honey and Pistachio brioche and the Malfadine pastas. They have a great selection of coffee and pastries as well, and I recommend their Spanish Latte. Parking isn't super straight forward, as it's limited to street parking here. I recommend parking in the neighborhood behind the restaurant, but just make sure to read any signage for time limits and restrictions. But highly recommend this spot! You'll feel like you're having brunch in the city at Nonna Mercato. This isn't ciao, but a definite see you later to this gem!

Yelp
Their baked goods are delicious, and their meals are super tasty! Enjoyed both breakfast and lunch with them. The Mafaldine is super tasty along with the Caesar! The rigatoni had too much garlic (coming from someone who loves garlic!)

Yelp
Visited this place after hearing so much buzz, and I'm always on the lookout for great pastries. Opted for a baguette and a dessert after brunch. The place was bustling, with lovely outdoor seating and interiors resembling a modern European bakery. Looking forward to returning post-diet for a full pastry feast! Nice friendly counter staff.

Yelp
Nonna Mercato is the type of place you'd find in some LA neighborhood, but here it is! In Bixby Knolls. I had the Italian muffin ($16) - and to my understanding, all dough related items are baked in-house. The Italian muffin is a fennel sausage, scrambled eggs, white cheddar, hot sauce on an English muffin. How do I begin to describe the scrambled eggs? The description is slightly inaccurate because these eggs are not fully scrambled - they're soft scrambled and then enveloped into an egg envelope. They're bright orange in color (hello organic!) and oh so good. And the English muffin is fucking fire. I'd eat this alone in a heartbeat. The eggs, white cheddar, hot sauce, English muffin - all of it makes for the most perfect breakfast sandwich. I had a brunch awakening here and you too can experience the same. The place is baby friendly. And dog friendly. And friendly friendly. And the food is superb.

Yelp
Loved this place!! Love the outdoor seating. Drinks: Spanish tea for me (amazing!!!) and cappuccino for my friend Food: GET THE BRIOCHE!!! holy moly. Ricotta, honey, pistachio. This dish was heaven. also got the baked eggs and omelette- both delicious! Bakery: matcha croissant seriously so tasty Im sure it' would be even tastier fresh first thing in the morning. I got mine around noon and it was still great. And so beautiful to the eyes , especially if you love matcha and pistachio like me The service was lovely, and they had heat lamps outside on a gloomy morning like today. Highly recommend this lovely little place.

Yelp
The food is exceptional! I wanted breakfast and ended up with an amazing Caesar salad and a croissant with ham and sunny side eggs. My friend had a freshly made pasta dish - Bolognese, very tasty! And wow wow wow the lemon blueberry cake is my new found favorite!!! Enjoy enjoy and enjoy!

Yelp
This review is for both the restaurant and the bakery! Restaurant- 3.5 stars Came here on a Saturday morning. They have a lovely outdoor seating area. On site parking in the back. Really cute and relaxing on a sunny day. We didn't have a reservation but got seated relatively quickly. We got one pasta, pappardelle Al ragu do funghi (loved the handmade chewy noodles and great mushroom flavor) and the baked egg (came with a piece of bread and had good flavor). Food overall was great and tasty. 1.5 star off because the service was really meh. First, the server gave us bad rec- long story short, I asked for the baked egg to be cooked a certain way due to dietary restriction. Was told no problem but when the food came, it was not what I asked for. When asking the server about it, she said "oh, next time, you should've asked for X instead." I was like huh? That's not what you said earlier and if you cannot accommodate, I would've ordered something else?? I ended just eating the bread and had a taste of the sauce without the eggs. Second, when we asked for the check, we were given the wrong check. Had we not checked it, we would've paid 3x of what we ordered Lol. Not big deal, since we checked, but server didn't acknowledge the mistake, so that wasn't too pleasant (we still tipped though, but personally, I'll probably not come back for brunch again). Bakery- 4.5 stars Inside the restaurant was a small bakery where you can see them making fresh bread (smelled really good in the morning). They had a wide range of baked goods, including croissant, cake slices, sourdough bread, and baguette. However, it seemed like they don't make more throughout the day, once something is sold out. Great croissant though and excited to try their other baked goods! Service inside the bakery was really nice.

Yelp
go early if you want to catch all the options before them selling out! the service can be a little bit slower, but the food is worth the wait. there is only outdoor seating for brunch service but there are heaters outside. the place is so cute with enough shade and plants. they are known for their baked goods all over town as they serve places like stereoscope, common room roasters, and coffee drunk to name a few!! their cookies, croissants, everything bagel croissants, quiche (also in their brunch menu) are some of my favs. but their brunch service... i can be down anytime really. their pasta is phenomenal. not surprising as the chef previously served osteria la buca in la and is also the chef of the attic... the carbonara is kinda heavy (but what carbonara isn't!?!) but it's so worth all the cheese and the cholesterol spike rigatoni with fennel sausage was also delicious - the pasta was perfectly al dente. i cannot remember the salad - i would need to consult the menu but the salad was so good too. love all the baby lettuce. so fresh and crunchy!! for coffee - they serve stereoscope- so... obviously great

Yelp
Such a cute little space that feels like a precious getaway when you're seated on their patio. If it's your first time don't fret if they print a menu for you that doubles as a place mat, that was a pretty cool idea in my opinion. We shared each other's pasta dishes while discussing business matters from our earlier morning meetings. The carbonara almost took my taste buds to heaven and the rigatoni had a wonderful spice level that bordered on seductive. Kylie was a gem from top to bottom explaining their process with great detail and care. She made sure to have us indulge in the sourdough starter with fresh jam!

Yelp
First time here while visiting Long Beach and meeting up friend in the area. First impressions was very cool, laid back and refreshing. When you walk in is a large open kitchen where you can see the baked goods and the other side where you can see the display case for all types of pastries, drinks, etc of the Mercado. Seating is outside and luckily such nice weather. It was the late afternoon, so the sun were in our eyes a bit and there wasn't really umbrellas to shield so we kept dodging using trees etc. It's mostly a self serve place where you order at the case and bring it out yourself.

Yelp
It's a nice location in bixby knoll. The reason why it's a 3 star because we wanted to get seating on a Monday afternoon at 12:30pm. The place was half full and there were two other parties waiting; we were all waiting for a table of 2. There was only one waitress working but we had waited for about 20 minutes and we weren't seated. I feel bad for the folks before us. We decided to buy a loaf of bread instead and it was really really good. Soft and fluffy! So we left without getting seated. Knowing we still had to get seated, order, and get our food, it'll probably take another 30-45 mins. Alas we went to another brunch area. I'm sure the food is great but the service or lack thereof was disappointing

Yelp
So this is an overdue review, but I came here with my besties for a late birthday brunch celebration. While we were waiting to be seated, we started with our dose of caffeine, which I failed to take pictures of, but they have a good selection to choose from. My besties and I are foodies, so we basically wanted to share everything on the menu! Of course, with brunch, we opted in for mimosas, and although space is limited, their outdoor seating is charming. I kid you not, everything we ordered was absolutely tasty and needless to say, delicious! We've never had a pumpkin blossom before, and the flavor was on point. I think that's a seasonal appetizer, but if they have it, it's a must try! A great way to explore their menu is to share amongst a group. That way, you get a taste of different dishes. Oh, they have pastries, too! Totally need to stop by to enjoy more yummy goodness.

Yelp
This place is such a quaint little brunch spot. Amazing food and service! Rigatoni dish is a must try. Please be sure and take some of the chocolate vegan donuts to go with you. Won't go far before they are all consumed.

Yelp
Super cute spot in Bixby Knolls area! I quickly found street parking and walked into the cutest bakery with bread, pastries, candies, drinks, and little knick knacks for sale. Good spot for a last minute gift if you need it, and I also saw boxed fresh cookies for purchase. They also had a section of their premade cakes/cake menu. The one cake they had in the case was beautiful and adorned with chocolate and macarons. I only had a few baked goods to try but will definitely be back for seated lunch in their adorable outdoor patio. They had delicious looking pastas when I was eyeing the tables on my way in. I really enjoyed their pastries and their version of a kitchen sink cookie. The morning bun and almond croissant were amazing and so flaky with the perfect light flavors! My husband had the peanut little, which is essentially an espresso shot with peanut butter which was very unique and enjoyable.

Yelp
This review is *for the sour bread only.* I drove 3 miles to buy this bread twice. On both occasions it was not worth it. The first time I bought two loafs. One of them was so full of holes, it was basically half a loaf. Texture was dense, which was not ideal. The second time the bread was supper gummy. The crust was soft. The bread looks good, but it does not taste good. I will not be returning. For the money they charge this is a very unsatisfactory product.

Yelp
Our son joined us today because our dining experience was amazing last time, and once again we were impressed. I ordered the bucatini amatriciana this time, and the flavor was beyond dreamy. With every bite, my eyes involuntarily closed, a definitive symptom of foodgasm. The meat was so fragrant, and the pasta was so substantial and chewy, the overall sensation was simply overwhelming. It was the best pasta that I have ever tasted, and I've been to Italy on numerous occasions. The servers were short-staffed, but they never failed to be attentive. Fortunately, we did not have to wait long and we found parking in the small lot in the back of the restaurant.

Yelp
Food is very good and fresh. The place is not very big and only has outdoor seating. The service was good.

Yelp
Nonna Mercato built the cutest front patio for their brunch. I tried to come by a month ago, but it was later in the day on a Sunday. The wait was over an hour and I just couldn't. Flash forward to last weekend, and my best friend dropped in from SF and asked me to breakfast, so I suggested this location. We got there at 8:30am on a Sunday, and there was no wait. I ordered some bubbly drink that reminded me of a spritz (I can't remember the name, but almost everyone there had one). It was super good. My friend got a latte and thought it was equally good. We shared the Nonna Breakfast and the Croque Seniora. Both were wonderful. I loved the ham on the croissant, but the bacon was also perfect, so I'm not sure which breakfast I liked best. The eggs are generously salted. I thought it was a bit much at first, but I enjoyed it in the end. The toasted baguette was lovely -- crusty on the outside and soft and moist on the inside, and the jam was beautiful. After breakfast, we went inside and ordered some pastries. I got an almond croissant, a passion fruit kouign amann, a morning bun, and a s'mores cupcake. All were on the pricey side, but delicious. Hands down, this is a cuuuuute spot for breakfast, we both loved what we had, and I want to come back with my mom if she ever gets up at a decent hour.

Yelp
I wanted to live this place after seeing it in Ig. I mean everything looks delish in the images... First impression - it's a cute brunch spot. The server was new so she wasn't able to answer a lot of questions.. but our food came out as ordered. Things tried: - Crispy pumpkin blossoms: so yummy! That filling was delish! They were cooked to perfection. - Classic Country Bread: it was also a winner! Bread was soft and fluffy and delish! - TONNARELLI ALLA CARBONARA: my first choice wasn't available so I decided to try the carbonara. The words guanciale caught my eye. so why I didn't like it - (1) pasta had way too much sauce and (2) the guanciale wasn't rendered enough. If they spent an extra 3 - 5minutes cooking it then added half the sauce it would have been a winner. Since you have the egg on top, less sauce is better. - MAFALDINE: my friend got this and so I tried it. Not sure why, but this also didn't hit the spot. Maybe there's a new cooking staff they are working with and they need a bit more training? All in all I'm glad I tried it and my friend and I will try it once more.. hoping there will be less hiccups next time around. .

Yelp
Sooooo excited they're open for sit down and I finally got to try it! This is really closer to a 4.7 star review. But they are really doing well and this is a spot you need to hit. The pasta IS FRESH. Gosh the texture of fresh pasta is just so good. What they did great: service was very friendly. Food came out in a timely manner. Food was fresh and had tons of flavor. Atmosphere and the perfect weather made this an awesome spot. So glad they built this outdoor seating area! What they can improve on: I know it's a week day but there was only one girl waiting and hosting all the tables. It took a while for her to seat us because she was tending the tables. Also, there were about three individuals working on their laptops each sitting at their own 4 seater table. They have plenty of 2 seater tables available. But later a family of 4 with little kids came and they had to wait a while for a table to clear and have two 2- seater tables put together to accommodate them. Food was great but the sausage in the Strascinati was way over salted. So salty I didn't have enough water to pair with it. Overall, definitely coming back to try different dishes!

Yelp
Bixby knows how to do brunch and I'm so excited nonna's joined the crew. Their breads are fantastic and have such good crunch and a chewy bite. The country bread with jam was my favorite. Also the staff is so friendly. Shout out to my Gemini twin!

Yelp
I have just discovered the most amazing Italian bakery, cafe, and brunch spot in Long Beach, California! This place is a hidden gem, offering a wide range of delicious treats that will make your taste buds dance with joy! From birthday cakes to wedding cakes, pastries to fresh cookies, cupcakes to french macarons, and even cake pops, they have it all! Parking on site and street parking available They also make fresh homemade pasta on-site, and their breads are simply divine. Trust me, you won't be able to resist the aroma of their mouthwatering creations! Now, let's talk about the preserves. Oh my goodness, they have this incredible peach and lime combination that is an absolute mindblowing! It's so good that I could eat it straight from the jar, especially when paired with their freshly baked bread. The customer service is top-notch! Everyone is friendly and attentive, making you feel like a VIP. The moment you step inside the cafe/bakery, you'll feel like you've been transported to Italy. You can even see the skilled staff working together to prepare delicious pastries and brunch items. It's such a joy to watch! I recently took my Mother-in-Love to this wonderful place, and it was the perfect choice. The atmosphere is so peaceful and calm, creating the ideal setting for a memorable dining experience. The steak and fries. Let me tell you, it deserves a rating of 20/10 ! The aged ribeye cooked to perfection, paired with fresh cut fries that are seasoned. The spaghetti, and it definitely gets a solid 10/10 ! The cacio pepe with pecorino romano is a delicious white sauce that complements the fresh pasta perfectly. The mafaldine is another winner, earning another 10/10 ! The bolognese sauce with pecorino romano and basil creates a flavor explosion that will leave you craving for more. The Italian Muffin 9/10 (Only because it was messy) flavors were incredible with fennel sausage, eggs, white cheddar cheese, hot sauce.

Yelp
A really lovely spot for bakery items and a yummy brunch! Our party stopped in for a brunch on a Tuesday around 10am. Unfortunately, it seemed to be a little short staffed as there was only one person working as the server, host, busser, and runner. Despite that, she was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful! The food was excellent. We got two pastas, the meatballs, and the brioche toast as a dessert. The homemade pasta was fantastic, as was the brioche. I liked the meatballs, but they weren't my favourite. We also got their Spanish Milk Tea and their peanut butter espresso drink. The peanut butter drink was probably one of the best coffee drinks I have ever had, but I'm also privy to peanut butter. The Spanish milk tea was a bit too sweet for our liking which was disappointing, but if you're into a super sweet milk tea it would be great for you! Overall highly recommend. Would love to give 5 stars if they just had a bit more staff

Came on a Sunday around 11 a.m. for brunch. Everything we ordered was delicious and well worth every penny. Everyone in my party left satisfied. Our server, Shannon, was absolutely fantastic and made sure we had a good experience.

Yelp
After a delicious lunch at Lola's Mexican Cuisine up the street we wanted to get coffee and dessert - this place was recommended and we'd agree! Very sweet interior, calm ambiance and welcoming. As espresso shots tend to be bitter I chose a cortado which was an excellent choice.... my better half a matcha latte, asked for a small amount of milk and her request was well followed up on... our hostess has real listening skills! Pastries - one word, AWESOME. That cookie was huge and full of flavor, same for the beautiful slice of lemon blueberry cake. The box of goodies that my better half ended up buying and is in the fridge now will be my surprise.... cannot wait. 10/10 on Nonna's Mercato.

Yelp
What a lovely brunch spot! The beautiful pastries were eye catching. Wanted to try them all. I especially liked the pistachio matcha white chocolate croissant. Thought it would be too sweet but it was actually perfect. Cute ambiance inside, can see the workers working hard to prepared your delicious meals. They have lots of items for sale: coffee, chocolate bars, dry pasta noodles, bread. Their cakes look beautiful too. Only outdoor seating available. Attentive and friendly staff. Enjoyed the pretty dirty drink. I especially liked the bread and raspberry? jam which tasted very natural and delicious! Would come back to try more of their pastries and eat again! Thanks for a lovely experience. My kind of brunch spot! Almost felt as if I were in Italy :)

Yelp
Neighborhood artisan bakery and pastaio (pasta maker), influenced by French Italian cuisine. They make their breads and pastas fresh every day from scratch, using high quality organic/sustainable ingredients. Their menu offers elevated brunch and lunch classics, along with an impressive pastry case, espresso bar, and pantry items. I loved their "Peanut Little", a petite espresso drink featuring house made peanut milk and oat milk foam on top. The espresso was bold in flavor and had balanced acidity, highlighted by cacao nibs and subtly sweet peanut milk. 10/10 for this drink. The Everything Croissant was just okay. The outer layers were so dry that they broke off upon biting into, shattering the seasoning into a pile of dust. The interior was dense, housing a small solidified cube of cream cheese. Perhaps this should have been heated up before eating. The Macaron was much better, containing a delicious chocolate creme. I usually never care if cashiers are rude. But, I found it moderately offensive that the girl working cancelled my order and helped the customer behind me when I said hello to a friend I ran into by the bakery case. I could understand if there was a line I was holding up, but we were the only people in there lol. Regardless, Nonna Mercato is the only establishment of their kind in this area, and I hope they continue to thrive.

Yelp
Avocados were seasoned to perfection. Pretty pricey but I knew what I was getting myself into. Waited a while for the avocado toast but worth it.

Yelp
Had brunch here with a friend this weekend and loved it! They have a great outside patio with plenty of seating as well as an inside area where you can either sit formally or get your order to go. We didn't have a wait longer than 10 minutes but do know that it can get busy! We split the brioche French toast with ricotta and pistachio. The brioche itself was perfection. Almost tasted like a croissant! Then we had French omelettes and I love it especially with the salad. The restaurant is great for brunch can with friends as well as kid friendly - we were near the cutest baby! Great time and would definitely recommend for your next weekend meal!

Yelp
Now that I've sampled more, I'm going to have to round this down. This place is ... fine. I gave it another try the other day with a regular butter croissant, but even though it wasn't anywhere near the Everything Bagels, it tasted like an Everything Bagel. This is not what I ordered or what I wanted, so they should probably figure out how to not contaminate those flavors. The croissant is on the soft side, and maybe might be better if it was popped in a toaster oven, but it remains on the softer side without any crunch.

Yelp
I always enjoy my time here. Always ate their pastries so it was nice to finally have breakfast here! Portions were great! I got the Nonna Breakfast & hubby got the Italian Muffin Panini. Both delish! Love a place that still serves beverages in a cup when dining in! Fresh bread made daily! You can watch them make it too! However I took 1 star off cos we put our name on the list (only 2 of us) while others after us put their names down, only to be seated before us. Must have gone thru 5 parties before we got seated. I understand if we had a big party but there was only 2 of us. That was a lil frustrating & unfair. Luckily I like the food/drinks & our waitress was very attentive to us. Don't come on a busy weekend if you have somewhere you need to be afterwards.

Yelp
First time giving this place a go. The staff were extremely friendly and the pastry (bacon & cheese scone) I had was phenomenal. The coffee selection is very simple and basic, which I actually appreciate at times. The price for two drinks and two pastries was $20, which I felt was very fair. I will definitely go again.

Yelp
The service counter, and a wall of windows offering a look into their bakery was impressive. Outside offered man seating options and heat lamps if needed. Staff was friendly. If you've never had kouign-amann try one! (I haven't had one in So CA and that's how I found Nonna Mercato). Coffee was served on a huge cup and was nice and strong. Took the baguette loaf home to my husband loved it! He even asked me for the address where I piechase

Yelp
We hopped in line a little before 10AM on a Sunday, and only waited for about 15 minutes before being seated - which was perfect, because you get access to both the Brunch and Lunch options! We were seated outside, and I didn't get a chance to check out the interior. Dog friendly patio. I genuinely can't say enough good things about the food here. We started with country bread with cultured butter & jam, which was SO good, the flavor and texture of the bread itself was so good you could eat it plain - but butter and jam were excellent as well I came here *specifically* to try the tonarelli alla carbonara, after seeing pictures of it here on Yelp. The flavors were rich, the noodles were perfectly chewy and fresh. I genuinely think the locally sourced/fresh ingredients are what make the difference here (no flavors lost trying to preserve ingredients for longer shelf lives). Had a bite of my boyfriend's lasagna - it's drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette, I'm not usually a fan of lasagna because of how soggy and tomato-y it is, but this was excellent. I think they cook each one in its own little tin, so they all have a nice crust - no middle pieces!! When ordering, they had to double check they still had some left, so it's popular - and a limited offering. NB: it looks like they update their menu every month, most of it is the same, but there are about 5 offerings you won't see listed online, so maybe keep that in mind! I liked my latte, but the americano was just ok. Might be a liiiiittle nitpicky for this, but they served it to us in a paper cup, and also without a hot sleeve. Not having glassware for it was a little bit of a turnoff, but not enough to lose a star (just, worth noting). A lot of the bixby knolls area food has been a bit of a miss, but not Nonna Mercato - We'll be back!!

Yelp
I cannot express the level of quality this meal was! From the amazing waitress to the lovely staff inside. But the meal itself was everything I wanted, savory, delicious, creamy, and well homey if that makes sense. It was just what I needed.

Yelp
Nonna's is an absolute treasure for Bixby Knolls. As a standalone bakery they have some real gems from the olive loaf to their Kouign-Amman. The sit down weekend brunch is also a must try. The country bread with cultured butter and jam is a surprisingly delicious and understated meal starter.

Yelp
I like the ambiance , but oh my! The coffee is a no go! The lattes are a no! So watered down, I wanted my money back but was too embarrassed to ask! Please help!!! I don't think I will be going back, but I did like the cake pop and the cookies they had! I like that they had vegan options and it's affordable! It's such a cute place !

Yelp
This place is amazing! All the pasta is freshly made everyday, it tastes so fresh and so good. The matcha and coffee are yummy and so is all their baked goods. I also had a slice of cake which was divine, very moist and rich. The environment is lovely, perfect for a brunch date with the girls and super aesthetically pleasing for pictures too. The waitress was so nice and very helpful, everyone that works there is just great. This is a small business owner owned establishment and it's to die for trust me!

Yelp
This is for take out only. Their food is really good but getting takeout here is horrible. I waited for an hour pass my pick up time. Only when I went up and asked them again what the status of my order was and then see them grab a bag from the counter where the bag has been sitting for 45 mins. Not to mention there was couple there who were waiting longer and only when they asked (assuming for a second time) did they get the two boxes from the counter that have been there shortly after I arrived! They need better communication with each other. We will enjoy our Luke warm food! Response: I said no such thing, I waited by the fresh bake bread the whole time. Edit* it is unfair of me to rate them one star, just because I had a bad experience with takeout. I was just frustrated and with the long wait time for no reason and the luke warm food. Even Luke warm the food was still delicious. I would still recommend this place.

Yelp
Came on a Wednesday around 4PM so it was empty but I am so happy my friend and I stumbled upon this hidden gem! When we first opened the door, the whole interior just smells like bread and pastries. It gives a comfy and cozy vibe, especially for a cold day. My friend and I got a hot Spanish latte, morning bun, and the passion fruit kouign amann. Everything was SO GOOD but my absolute favorite is the morning bun. It kind of has a subtle citrus taste and was so good and well balanced. We also sat outside in their patio which is a beautiful space. I definitely want to come back to check out their brunch/afternoon menu and hopefully on a warmer/sunny day. Since we came on a Wednesday, street parking was pretty easy. Didn't know there was also a back parking lot.

Yelp
I went yesterday to dine in with a relative. It was a 15 minute wait, which was fine. But I noticed plenty of empty tables. Then it looked as though there was only one server. I looked over their menu with lots of options. I went with the skirt steak and homemade fries. The fries were ok, but the steak was so tough. I ordered it medium rare. It was a little strip that was precut into maybe 9 pieces? I couldn't even cut it with my butter knife and wasn't offered a steak knife. I didn't even see our waitress to ask for one. Their dining is only outside. If you know Atlantic Ave, people are speeding all of the time. So it can be a little loud. They do make some tasty pastries from croissants to cakes. I'd like to try again but I will order pasta.

Yelp
Cacio e Pepe pasta was very good. We also had a mozzarella appetizer which was good but lots of bread for small ball of mozzarella. The coffee was tasty and to my liking. There is no inside dining only patio, which is nice but if noise bothers you-it's right on Atlantic, with lots of traffic. Our server was very pleasant and accommodating , she was the only server for all the tables. We waited to be seated and then waited very long to get our food. I literary had to go inside the bakery and buy a croissant because we were hungry. This place has possibilities because the food is good but if they don't fix the long wait, I'm afraid people might get discouraged to go.

Yelp
Nonna is truly exceptional! Words cannot express how impressed I am with this company. My family and I make it a point to visit Nonna on weekends to savor their delicious coffee and the most delectable quiche in town. Not only do we appreciate Nonna for our personal indulgences, but we also entrust them with supplying our business. For nearly two years, we been sourcing our sourdough bread from Nonna, much to the delight of our customers. Their cakes are nothing short of exquisite, exuding professionalism in every beautifully crafted design. The service at Nonna is top-notch as well. The friendly staff always greets me warmly upon entering, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Convenient street parking along Atlantic and ample parking in the rear lot make every visit a breeze.

Yelp
Just a mini update but I used to love coming here weekly & bringing friends/family here but I had an unpleasant service from a specific aa waiter when I brunches here with my little brother . He practically screamed at him just because he couldn't hear him. My little brother is soft voiced but there's no reason to scream "I can't hear you" when he himself was like 3/4 feet away from us at the time . He was just unpleasant the whole time & made me & my little brother so uncomfortable that we did not enjoy our meal . As well I ordered a latte & he gave me mines in plastic , I try not to drink out of plastic . I literally didn't even touch it . I have not returned since as I was just baffled by him screaming at my little brother like that ...

Yelp
Peanut little was good. Not too sweet. Small portion since it's espresso. Spanish latte was good. Sweet. Passion fruit pastry was good but not out of this world. I've had better of this style pastry. Pistachio pastry wasn't that good. Dry and didn't love the flavor. Service was quick as we were first in line to be served. No inside seating. There's some outside seating.

Yelp
Cute little bakery located in Bixby knolls! I came here to try their brunch menu and overall I enjoyed most of their dishes! Their brunch is served in their cute little outdoor patio area. My girlfriends and I went on a Thursday morning and to our surprise it was a little busy, but we only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. We ordered the squash blossom, granola with yogurt, godmother sandwich, brioche French toast and the rigatoni pasta. The pasta was incredible and worth another trip back to Nona's! It's handmade and so delicious! Our biggest disappointment was the brioche French toast. It lacked sweetness, flavor and depth. Everything else was a solid 4 stars. Would come back to enjoy coffee on the patio or another bowl of pasta!
