"Concordia Italian bar Nonna will get out of the nightly pasta game at the end of the month. Restaurant group Dept. of Food & Shelter says the bar and restaurant will become a pop-up space and private event venue starting in October. Nonna is one of the various restaurants under the Dept of Food & Shelter umbrella, which includes nearby restaurants Yakuza and DOC. Only open for five years, Nonna offers casual pastas, live music, and a noteworthy kid’s happy hour that earned it a spot on the Eater Portland kid-friendly restaurant map. Still, according to owner Dayna McErlean, the size of Portland’s restaurant scene has made it hard to compete. 'The restaurant business in Portland is seemingly thriving but also increasingly tough,' McErlean says. 'In recent years, pressure from higher costs and competition has brought us to this turning point.' McErlean will keep Yakuza and DOC open, while also focusing on Nonna as an event space. The restaurant will begin to truncate its hours this month, only open from 5 p.m. until close on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Nonna’s last night open, then, should be September 28." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

My Italian loving family chose to swing by here one night. One starving hangry older kid, and three adults. Nice range of drinks and menu items with something for everyone. Burgers to capelli The service was on the ball! Great food! The giant meatball was quickly devoured and asked about for more. Kid friendly with quiet quick food.

Absolutely amazing! Really authentic food, flavorful but not greasy. Best eggplant parmesan I've ever had. Delicious wines. Bread like a pillow. Very pleasant staff.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here, the atmosphere is perfect. Our waiter was attentive without being overbearing. He had great recommendations. We plan on bringing friends/family from out of town next time. The oysters were delicious and very fresh. You should give the pasta a try as well, the noodles don't feel heavy like some places.

The happy hour menu here is amazing! The chefs choice bruchetta was so good, I could have eaten it all night. Plus, the prices on the happy hour menu are insanely cheap for how good the food is. The cocktails are great here too and the bartenders and servers are super friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this place for a date night, but you can also come with the family if you're wanting delicious food and cocktails on those nights you don't have a babysitter 😉

Great food. Service was so-so. Went for a fun girls-night-out. This is a place that doesn't really know what it should be when it grows up. Is it a bistro? A pub? A local place? Is it fancy adult date night place? The prices don't match the physical place. Again, food was good. Wine selection was okay but could be more diverse but there seemed to be something at every price point. Might go back, but there's better Italian food in Portland.

Pros: Great food! They use very complementary flavors to make normal food more gourmet. Atmosphere is relaxing and enjoyable. I loved the rustic tavern feel mixed with upscale food. Definitely plan to go back. Cons: lack of comfortable chairs/barstools. (Most are wood with little to no cushion). But I'm also 8 months pregnant, so I tend to have a harder time getting comfortable anyway.

Oh my goodness, what a gem! We were headed to Yakuza’s - a serious favorite of mine, but they were closed for a private party and the server suggested we go to Nonna down the street a block away. We spent three hours, drank excellent cocktails, ate fantastically delicious food - every single dish was top notch, listened to live jazz from an amazing local band, and enjoyed great customer service. I embrace a gluten-free, dairy-free and egg-free diet and while their menu did not have a ton of those options, they had enough for me to still feel spoiled just perfectly by Nonna and my evening there. Thank you.

this was a really tasty meal. creative italian fare presented in a cool space. the bread was quite fantastic, as were most things on offer. we ordered a selection of small plates and pastas, and were really happy with most everything - the one thing we ordered that wasn't to our taste was removed from our bill without us having to even ask!
